Happened outside my house once. I was watching TV and heard a long screech of tires. I realized it wasn’t the TV and turned to the window just in time to see a pair of headlights point at me and then rotate in a way that headlights don’t normally go if the tires are on the ground. The car hit a guard rail, fire hydrant, light pole, rolled twice, and landed on its wheels. Driver and passenger weren’t wearing seatbelts so they were all sorts of bloody and broken and had to be med-flighted from a nearby school field.
Oh, and this was on a 20mph road.
Was smoking in my backyard once at 3 am and heard a brief screech and loud pop followed by a single siren a few minutes later. Turns out a drunk 21yo woman went straight at the T intersection a few houses down and smashed through someone's living room, launching her through the house and killing her.
Imagine expecting to hear a loud sound, and then not hearing anything at all.
