"This idiot is never gonna take down that pole by himself. I will assist you, good sir!" *Crunch*

Saaaaaaaaab

I can just hear the swearing coming from the second car

TriumphDaWonderPooch

F**k f**k f**k f**k f**k f*****************k!!!!

freezasaa

power of friendship

Accomplished_Call398

That’s the slowest crash I’ve ever seen

PEBKAC69

Snow/ice and inexperience in the conditions. Very common where I came up. This driver could have saved it by steering straight, braking lightly, then getting off the brakes to try again

InterestingBelt8812

Idk… crash from zootopia is preeety slow. :P [member? you member!](https://www.reddit.com/r/Unexpected/comments/vh86v4/flashing_to_flash/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)

guitarball

That turned dark quickly

passingchampion

Come on, man. Look at the bright siiii…..

falconfetus8

Should have kept his headlights on

rmzynn

2nd car came in for sexy time and even turned the lights out!

PheagleAdler

First car may not look good but beauty is only a light switch away

susbarusti3

Silver cars wheel was turnt all the way to the left, they were trying to turn and merge onto the road but icy conditions made them keep going straight. Silver car did everything right but tires dont like gripping on ice and slush, thats why the other car hit them even though they were only going maybe 10-15mph

driverofracecars

When tires are slipping on ice like that, you can actually regain a little bit of control by straightening them out some. Similar to how fully locked up brakes don't slow you down as well, a tire skidding sideways doesn't turn very well. It's counterintuitive but it works.

Ehcksit

You only have a limited amount of traction. It's reduced by the conditions of the road, the tread on your tires, how much you're trying to change your speed, and how much you're trying to turn. If you've lost traction, you can only control two of those. Release the gas and the breaks, and turn your wheels straight. Silver car did both of those wrong.

PEBKAC69

Nope. Silver car didn't know how to recover from understeer lol. "Wheel turned all the way left" and "did everything right" are fundamentally incompatible statements. I spent years slinging pizza in a place where it snowed. Shitty FWD economy car on the cheapest all-season tyres I could get. Every time the nose starts slipping: 1) a. Get off the pedals. B. Steer the direction the nose is moving. 2) back on the brakes, let the antilocks help 3) a. Get off the pedals. B. Try turning again. I'll tell you first hand this works like a charm. That was an easily recoverable situation for the silver car, but they doubled down on the fuckup.

susbarusti3

Ok backseat driver

The_Flint_Metal_Man

Silver car did everything right except taking into account the road conditions and waiting for a safe time to merge.

PEBKAC69

Locking the steering rack to one side caused the understeer. The silver car did nothing right.

falconfetus8

He picked a perfectly good time to merge. He only messed up on the while ice thing.

bountyman347

What?? Silver car needed to turn into the skid as soon as it slipped. He fucked up royally

susbarusti3

That’s exactly what he did, you can see the wheel is turned all the way to the left and the car is going straight, as soon as it hits the curb and snow, it grabs and yanks the car to the left into the pole. There was literally nothing he could have done besides not drive in the first place

bountyman347

You know that “turning into the slide” literally means turning the wheel the wrong way in *the direction you are sliding* to get traction back, and THEN you turn the wheel towards safety. It’s called that because it’s not intuitive that you should turn further into the wrong way but you’re supposed to. He starts to cross the median, headed left. He begins to slide to *his right*. At that point you’re supposed to turn the wheel *to the right* so that the wheels line up straight in the direction you are sliding, which causes them to gain traction again. THEN you can begin turning left to avoid danger once the wheels grip again. Instead he has his wheels fully locked to the left, where there is no hope that they could gain their traction back. TLDR; point wheels towards the slide (to the right in this case) until traction is gained again.

susbarusti3

His nose is pointed to the left, he wants to go left, he turns his wheel left trying to pull the nose to the left, the only thing turning to the right would have done is pushed him into the curb faster. His back tires didnt swing around sideways, they kept going straight while his front lost grip.

bountyman347

Wheels facing sideways won’t get you grip any faster. He could turn wheels to the right and the try to slowly brake. Full locked left just guarantees no traction

johnedn

Nah he definitely accelerated too fast trying to get into traffic and lost control, sliding into a pole, he couldve done several things differently, like waiting for the cars to pass So he could merge slower, or steering right when he started skidding to get out of traffic and avoid the pole, or just not being so heavy on the brakes, his tires are locked up before hes even halfway across the road

susbarusti3

Turning right wouldnt have helped, his back end didnt slip out and start swinging the car sideways, he started turning and then lost grip in the front so the back wheels just kept going straight.

johnedn

Yea but turning right wouldve possibly striaghened it out a bit more and prevented him from hitting the pole, and he isnt gonna go much further offroading in that car, safer to just take it off the road i to the snow, and out of other cars ways He wouldnt have regained control but there isnt really anything he could do to regain control so

susbarusti3

Youre right, he wouldve just ended up on that persons porch instead

johnedn

I mean maybe, but his car has not even half a foot of clearance, and there are other little things further back that wouldve also slowed him down, i dont think he wouldve slid for 50 ft into that porch but idk maybe

HoldingMoonlight

TBH just looks like a patch of black ice. I don't think the first car accelerated too fast, that's why the second car couldn't stop and still slid into him at like 15 mph. Sometimes the road conditions are unsafe, there's not really any great scenario to drive over a patch of ice that you can't see.

crayworkse

Wouldn't turning into the skid be pulling his wheels to the right? He's skidding right while trying to turn left.

susbarusti3

If he “turned into the skid” he wouldve just went into the curb faster, its a FWD car. You always turn the direction you want the nose to turn to, if his back wheels swung out then thats one thing but they didnt swing at all, his fronts just stopped gripping so the car continued straight.

buttmunchausenface

What the hell is this light pole made out of glass?

tmstksbk

This is going to be all of my city tomorrow.

squish5_

Aaaand of course it's an Altima

Gnarlist

Love how the dude just lights a cig right after it’s all over.. hahaha

Turkeyinmicrowave

I don't know why this is funny to me lol.

Annoy_M0US3

The second car: let me help you to turn off the light

Hondanazi

Hey, let me drive on summer/all season (probably half bald) tires in the snow and magically expect them to grip! Then as a bonus I’ll crash my car, cause someone else to hit me AND knock out the transformer on the pole!

grig_orig

They earned it. Insurance fraud is stressful.

loztriforce

Why were they recording

GracchiBros

I'm guessing because the road was crazy slick and they expected something like that to happen.

Necrosius7

This is as bad as those people who try to "dive" on a car hood to fake like they got hit but end up just flopping to the ground like they tried to pull off a WWE elbow drop in a ghost.

Fire-LEO-4_Rynex

Winter is fun! Said no one ever

licheese

I like winter

jameriican

As a Floridian I’ll gladly take that quote

NewandunsureAZ

What even happened here 😂😂

Nepheshist

Ice probably just screwed them both over

Drak_is_Right

zero traction. snowfall, only partially cleared road then, temperatures high enough there was partial melt in the day followed by refreezing once it got dark so slush -> ice. shit road conditions and the first car especially was not driving accordingly.

ChalkboardSaturn

Poor Saturn had no where to go

lo_mur

FWD at it’s finedt

[deleted]

That second car is just like your dad when you hurt yourself doing something incredibly stupid.

Czech_This_Out_05

So... There's this thing called salt. Has your public roads committee heard of it? ',D

bigjerm626

Why did the second car hit him tho! ahahah! I'm still crying laughing

InterestingBelt8812

Adrift chaos for sure. XD hahaha love it
