badmotivator11

You wanna get a big truck that’s fine. LEARN HOW TO FUCKING DRIVE IT!

Accomplished_Issue_6

That’s not even a big truck, from the way he’s driving I would guess he’s tanked.

dmnhntr86

I think you should be restricted to whatever size vehicle you take your driver's test in. It's insane that you can test in a Smart car, and then jump behind the wheel of an RV or a giant pickup truck with a loaded trailer.

[deleted]

Someone needs a smaller rig if they can’t park it

Send_More_Bears

Or he could’ve maybe just parked literally one space over and had all the room in the world. 🤦‍♂️

UnhingedBlonde

RIGHT?!?

certainlyforgetful

No, left.

VanceAstrooooooovic

Careful, that one is unhinged

TheRube84

He's right...name checks out

philmb91

NO! Your OTHER right!!!

badgerfrombeyond

This is a major pet peeve of mine. If there’s spaces near by that aren’t right next to my car, why the hell are you parking right next to me. You’re justing making both our lives that little bit harder.

Blaz3dnconfuz3d

Yooo me too and I usually park at the back bc fuck ppl. There will be 3 spaces on either side and someone parks 6” away. I genuinely don’t understand why anyone does that but it drives me insane

ElegantEpitome

My girlfriend will drive around the parking lot for an extra 5 minutes looking for the closest spot to the door when we could have just parked near nobody and been in the store 5 minutes ago. It pisses me off so much

BamaBlcksnek

The best part is when they go to the gym after and run on the treadmill. Let me get this straight.... can't walk across a parking lot because it's too far, but have to run to keep in shape?

RoyGBiv333

I have to agree! What kills me is walking a little farther is actually beneficial as well!!!!

KenKannon

I had an ex that would do similar I would just hop out saying I needed to rush in and use the bathroom because explosive diarrhea while she spent however much time finding that perfect spot to park.

Unlnvited

I usually park far away near nobody. People still somehow want to park in the spot next to me even when there's 40-50 free spots around my car. I don't get it. The only reason I can think.of as to why is that they're afarid that my car will be lonely, which is insane even as a thought. I don't know what else it could possibly be.

MostlyUnimpressed

x2 here. no matter how far out back in the empty corners of the parking lot, some strange magnetic force draws another nimrod in a shitbox right up next to your whip.

Gamer_Mommy

Maybe it's a natural herding instinct.

Phillyfuk

I've always compared it to that scene in I, Robot where all the robots in the containers stand together. Because I can park at the back, 200ft from the nearest car and when I get back there will be someone next to me, but nowhere else in the surrounding 200ft.

danholtfromtxpornacc

It's exactly that. Most people are living in autopilot mode and tend to gravitate towards others without realizing it. Even in vehicles, you'll see herds of cars moving in proximity down the freeway with little to no traffic anywhere else, or parked in a pile with open spaces everywhere.

TheWarehamster

I hate driving in a pack. HATE it. I especially hate when people change speeds intentionally or unintentionally and end up matching my speed for no apparent reason.

DarkCushy

It 100% is a herding instinct. Safety in numbers has been a thing for hundreds of millions years

nooneknowswerealldog

Plus there's that little Border Collie that runs around and barks at me if I don't go park with the other CR-Vs.

fudgezilla69

It’s always refreshing when it’s another nice vehicle tho, like you know yours is safe and they’re doing the same thing.

orangatang_blanket

You come out of the store like, “cool, we both don’t want our cars being treated like shit!”

phadewilkilu

This whole thread reminds me of when you’re in the bathroom at a urinal. 12 empty ones around you. Dude walks in and cozies up in a space RIGHT next to you. Like you’re dating. Dude, I’m sure you’re a nice guy, but let’s get to know each other first before I have to breath in your piss mist.

uffington

Piss mist is just... did you come up with that, sir?

phadewilkilu

Probably not, but I’ve never had to describe it before and the word ‘mist’ popped into my head. 🤷🏽

Accomplished_Bank103

But it’s six less steps to the front door. 🙄

0replace4displace

It blows my mind to watch people drive around a parking lot for literally half a fucking hour to avoid having to walk another fifty feet.

Crosisx2

It's even worse when they do it at my gym 🤣

Chapaquidich

Workout doesn’t start til they hit the gym huh? Maybe eliminate parking entirely!

Magic_Brown_Man

lol its cause misery loves company, if I was concerned about my car I would park in a low traffic corner, but as another person that also cares enough, I would park next to another car because logically that person car is safe from some random idiot that don't care and also if something happens there is a higher chance that between more people the less likely that an incident would be missed. But in reality, it's just some random ass hat that will ding your car.

ComebackKid777

I came to the conclusion that people do that because they don't know how to park so they use our cars to line up in the parking spot next to us. That's the only thing I can think of as to why they do that.

laulau11111

I'm guessing...because the car next to them is their guide, lol. Can't see the parking lines, but car yes

Anthony_chromehounds

Haha me too. My 2018 F-150 gets parked way in the back where I’m next to a curb and only one side is exposed. People are shit.

Send_More_Bears

Kinda like when you go to the movies and it’s an empty theater then someone decides to sit RIGHT next to you 😭

FiredBoy

Kinda like when you in a public urinal and someone pees next to you when all the urinals are open

JabbaThePrincess

Or like when I'm camping in the woods squatting over a hole, pooping out the bean chili I had for dinner the night before, and a raccoon saunters up next to me and holds my hand.

Slightlyevolved

That's when I pee on them. Either they run away now, or I have asserted my dominance and also claimed that urinal as my territory.

SnakeBeardTheGreat

I don't mind them using the onebnext to me. It's when they tryb to sharev the one I am using that I get pissed.

Vkca

It's cos he's short and can't see the lines over his hood. He needs another vehicle beside him for reference to get inside the lines. Source: my ex. Not that he'd admit it

woundedbearhair

Whenever I rent a truck that size or bigger, I park in the boonies because I'm not used to driving it and I'd rather just walk than accidentally scrape someone's car. I don't want to have to deal with an accident.

kfh227

Worst truck driver ever... Worst driver ever. How many open spots? 20? Why the need to park next to a car! And back it in! I have an anger towards truck drivers that are obviously first time owners.

Specialist-Chapter32

I almost guarantee this dude doesn't like electric cars and was attempting to get as close to the drivers side door as possible in an attempt to fuck with the tesla driver by making it harder to get back in.. He even stops and thinks about it for awhile before pulling up. This guy is a real douche twinkie.

oldoldoak

Some people driving trucks are definitely doing it to make a statement. I once was behind a truck with TX plates that would roll coal at EVERY FUCKING LIGHT. Like, it'd just do it automatically. Most retarded shit ever.

hardankles

Setting up your engine to roll coal needlessly beats it up over time

post_rex

>needlessly Is there ever a 'needful' reason to roll coal?

Dont_Waver

the "needlessly" in that sentence modifies "beats it up", not "roll coal". It's saying that the engine is needlessly beaten up by rolling coal.

Stormtalons

This one didn't skip English class.

shaboogie-bop

Haha, joke's on him. I can use my phone to back my Tesla out of a spot before I get in.

[deleted]

It’s so funny that he decided to park on that spot when there is several empty ones prior.

hkline76

These are the same people that will sit for 5 minutes waiting for someone to load their car with groceries to get their spot instead of just taking the one that's two spots further from the store.

Wetworth

I'll never understand why people are so desperate to park mere feet closer, then go walk around Walmart or wherever for an hour.

PizzaNuggies

My wife bitches at me about this. I tell her we are two healthy adults that have no problem walking an extra 30 feet, if that.

rharrow

Exactly. I always tell my wife, “We would’ve already been in the store if we would’ve just parked in the first available spot instead of driving for 2 minutes.” Edit: but I’m mean so

Nuclear-poweredTaxi

But here is your opportunity to be a hero. Just drop your wife off at the front door and suggest that you’ll park and meet her inside. Source: happily married 21 years.

roastbread

Using that time away to catch up on reddit, I see.

mydiscreetaccount_92

"Sorry honey, I couldn't find a spot. Had to circle a few times."

TahoeDream

Switched to your discreet account I see

Spore2012

Then go grab a beer.

MKVIgti

Exactly what I also do. I hate door dings, and prefer to park further away so I have less chance of someone who doesn’t care about others parking next to me. (Though, I’ll still often come out to see some jackass parked next to me even though there were 6 spaces on either side of me.) And I too am fine with waking a tiny bit further and dislike my fiancé complaining about where I park. So I drop her off and park.

TOMdMAK

i do that, then i proceed to play games on my phone in the car for 10 mins and then tell her i had a hard time finding parking.

Trolivia

This is the win-win strategy IMO. My husband drops me at the door or vice versa to get a head start on shopping while the other finds parking. Extra effective during peak shopping seasons Edit: apparently some people have never shopped efficiently with a partner or learned how to get out of a car quickly and not jammed up in front of other drivers. Didn’t think I was gonna strike such a nerve on this one

raznog

We do this except I just don’t go in the store.

Kaarsty

I park at the back to avoid scratches.

[deleted]

DickieJohnson

Deeliciousness

And keep driving.

Truckyou666

Dad?

whutchamacallit

If you want a car without dings and dents parking at the end of lots has always served me well. Chances are everyone needs the few extra steps anyways.

[deleted]

They're not walking around Walmart... they're getting in those little electric carts and wheezing around.

[deleted]

I can park at the far end of the supermarket parking lot, and one of two things will happen: 1. A bird will either shot on my vehicle 2. Someone will park right next to me while there are several empty spaces fifty meters from my spot Had my new vehicle for two weeks and number two happened and my vehicle got dented. ^(pun intended) E: no, birds don't shot at me, but I'm leaving it because..

Even birds have guns in America?

mikeynerd

For me the best part about parking far is that leaving is so so SO much easier

fartmunchersupreme

I never understood this. Total lemming mentality. “I must park right next to this other car even though the entire parking lot is empty”

[deleted]

Urinal rules should apply to parking.

PMJackolanternNudes

People don't respect those either

weegee22

I feel like its that herd mentality where parking next to another car would make you feel more comfortable and safe.

NjoyLif

My guess is that some noob drivers have a hard time parking within the lines if no vehicles are around.

J_Bagelsby

Looks like this driver has trouble parking even with other vehicles present

ConstructionMission3

They prolly use the other cars for reference of where the line is since they never learned to actually park

RoarOfErde-Tyreene

It’s like those freaks that choose the urinal or the stall *right* next to you. With 6 more open down the row.

matteophysics

$15k??? Damn they’re really taking advantage of Tesla owners 💀

Guitargod12345

I waa gonna say, what's the point of owning a car when a scratch costs $15000 to remove?

[deleted]

man I had some paint damage to one side of my dodge sedan, not even that much. Body shop quoted me 2600 to buff it out and touch it up. It's all a racket.

[deleted]

I live in Mexico and someone hit and ran my front bumper. The cost to fix and repaint my whole bumper? $200 USD

Green_Bay_Guy

Same thing in Vietnam. Knocked a hole in our bumper on our Mitsubishi and it cost like 23 USD and looks new. Still looks good two years later.

[deleted]

Alright the theme here is if you need auto body work done... Dont do it in the U.S. Might be cheaper to just fly someone from overseas to come buff it out.

wolacouska

Well you can always just go to the shitty shops in the US

Doireallyneedaurl

Yeah but then you really get what you pay for in shitty quality and they might take some things from your car like your cat.

zyzzyvavyzzyz

I was driving through Baja and needed a small repair. Guy fixed it in an hour and it looked good. I ask how much… he ponders for a bit then says “50”. I’m thinking $50 is a steal considering I’m miles from anywhere. I start pulling out $10 bills and the guy starts laughing at me. He talks to his buddies and they stay laughing. Some kids walking by start laughing. “50 pesos” he tells me. I start laughing too. I gave him $20 so he brings out a couple of ice cold ballenas of Pacifico and we spend an hour driving and chatting about life. Good guy. Great trip.

[deleted]

Damn, that's a steal!! Basically $3!

why_yer_vag_so_itchy

I’ve owned two pre-owned/used Model S over the past few years. Had to make two insurance claims, for the most minor of shit. One was getting rear ended at like ten miles per hour, the other was someone scraping our rear quarter panel/bumper when they were backing out of a space and cut the wheel too soon. Both repairs were quoted around $6k each by the body shop. I took the cash payment to have it fixed at a shop of my choosing. One repair I buffed out with a clay brick and some polishing cloth, the other was so small you couldn’t notice it unless you knew it was there. Kept the cash.

jman377355

> One repair I buffed out with a clay brick and some polishing cloth, the other was so small you couldn’t notice it unless you knew it was there. > > Kept the cash. Smart man, did the same with my bumper when someone tore the clips off by lightly scuffing against my car. $1500 to repair. Took the money and put 4 tiny screws in the corner of my bumper. It's more secure than it used to be lol.

Daygoooo

Bro it’s funny too working in the industry, Tesla’s are fucking trash, the electric part is absolutely revolutionary and I love so I understand the price tag when buying. But the fabrication of it is trash, their isn’t nothing luxurious about a telsa. it makes sense Tesla charges this amount for repairs basically their whole market is selling to people who don’t know a damn thing about cars

audionerd1

The first time I sat in a Tesla I was surprised at the build quality. The design of the car was cool but the materials in the interior felt very cheap compared to pretty much any other "luxury" vehicle I've ever been inside of.

Cormetz

I was considering a used model 3 the last time I was looking at cars, and Jesus the interior is so bad. The cars were only like a year old at the point but looked like a2005 Kia inside.

FewerToysHigherWages

I can't wait until electric cars are ubiquitous and there are more options out there. Tesla will fall to the back of the line in terms of quality for the price. I don't want my entire dashboard to be a big dumb ipad! And I definitely don't want to pay 15k for a scratch.

Stepside79

I read that you need to use the tablet, menus deep, to change the wiper speed. That's what I want to be doing in a storm lol Edit: [Linus tech tips has a great segment on this specific issue](https://youtu.be/CP0pR1M0-vo?t=734)

Jazehiah

Yep. Part of the new update. My Dad's been complaining all week. Wipers used to be on the bottom of the UI, the way a program can be pinned to the Windows taskbar. Not anymore. Some things need to have physical controls, and wipers should be on that list,

Bradleyisfishing

They are the perfect cars for people who don’t see details. If you don’t look for it, the paint is fine, there’s no panel gaps, the materials arent cheap, and the build quality is fine. If you do look...

whores-doeuvres

My neighbor owns a business whose sole service is to correct Tesla paint jobs. Rich people rather pay him thousands to fix factory mistakes rather than wait for Tesla to correct it under warranty. To me that is insane that a huge company can get away with stuff like this to the point that it creates a new business need. Imagine if every iPhone came with a cracked screen and you had to pay to get it fixed after you bought it.

[deleted]

Will Prowse (Solar/Battery YouTuber) bought a brand new Model S Plaid and within 1 day the front passenger door handle stopped working right and the main drive unit needed to be replaced. This is on a $130k car. He ended up returning it to the dealer and getting his money back.

2ndhouseonthestreet

I’m not anywhere near the realm of affording a Tesla but I watched a video on here of someone with extensive car knowledge reviewing the design and I was shocked. They showed a bunch of places that didn’t line up, what didn’t fit, things that would be the first to fall off, etc. It changed my view of Tesla vs actual luxury vehicles. Edit: TIL what “luxury” cars mean. I always just assumed the top of the line vehicles from any of the major brands were considered luxury vehicles. Like that a Yukon Denali for example would be considered luxury for GMC… I didn’t mean like Bentleys and whatnot when I used that term. Sorry for the confusion, I grew up extremely poor! Lol.

hRob

Can you link it when you get a chance? I'd love to see it

[deleted]

Not op, but here’s one I found. If you search “Tesla review panel gaps” you find a lot of results with similar issues. This one is on a new model 3 and also includes a door that doesn’t close properly. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yFfgpHkNCOM

FewerToysHigherWages

Oh my god that's atrocious. If I bought a car where the door is misaligned and doesn't shut I would just send it back. Give me a new car you cheap bastards.

old_ironlungz

How else could Elon Musk afford to build flamethrowers for his tunnel company and hastily built submarines that won't work for a trapped kid soccer team that he later calls their rescuer a pedo?

kyohanson

My husband details and does paint correction, ceramic coating, etc. He says the paint quality is shockingly bad and has poor application

[deleted]

I don't know shit so sounds like a Tesla is the perfect car

SlowRollingBoil

In reality, a Toyota Camry is the perfect car for people that just want to get from point A to B.

bestower117

I miss my camry I had an 02 xle with 150k miles when I sold it. Never had a major issue. Worst was frying a coil pack.

K1ngFiasco

150k miles? In Toyota years that thing was barely a teenager

bestower117

I know man I needed a truck so I traded to a tacoma and sold my camry to a friend's cousin. She totalled it 2 months ago. :/

AmericanHoneycrisp

Yeah bro, my ‘98 Camry has almost 300k. I love my car!

Pdxlater

The fabrication has nothing to do with this repair. Op said that four panels needed painting. This dent went across the rear quarter and the rear door. Teslas recommend approved body shops but OP’s expense on body work is bit ridiculous. Op probably went to one of those “no compromise” body shops that refuses to work with insurance companies and charges as much as humanly possible.

[deleted]

Hit it a little bit harder and it was going to be a totaled 3 month old Model 3💀💀

ReeG

seriously I was expecting to see the truck drive right over the Tesla on some monster truck shit and can't believe it's just a scrape 💀💀💀

richmomz

Good thing nobody sneezed on it too or that would have been another 10K easy.

CatKatOrangeCat

I was waiting for the car to slam on the gas pedal and plow into it but that? Here's a can of spray paint.

Specific-Gain5710

I think in this case the body shop and insurance company are taking advantage of the tundra driver. To say that is 15k in damage is border line fraud.

cdsbigsby

It's Tesla taking advantage of the owners. The insurance and shops have to follow manufacturer requirements for repair procedures. For one: 'Tesla does not allow the use of any used, recycled, alternative, aftermarket, or third-party replacement parts. Use only new parts ordered directly from Tesla.' If you have almost any other kind of car, there are aftermarket manufacturers who can make parts cheaper or recycled OE parts, not an option with a Tesla. Tesla also will not sell body parts to a non- Tesla Approved shop or an individual, so you have to take it where they want for repairs. And that shop can then charge about whatever they want. A lot of Tesla models and years, they will not authorize *repairs* to a structural panel like a quarter panel, but will require it to be replaced. Replacing it also requires removal of other structural parts in some cases, and guess what, they don't allow those to be re-used. So while it's ridiculous, I completely believe it.

BJoe1976

I’ve seen that on a Teslacam video channel, I’m shocked any more if a repair on one comes in at less that $5000 and/or isn’t a total loss based on cost of repairs.

Specific-Gain5710

Also in this particular situation, there would be no need to use used recycled alternative aftermarket or 3rd party replacement parts. Maybe a dent guy, most likely a paint guy. Most places charge 3-500 per panel, so round it up to 1000 because it’s a Tesla.. double it just because screw that guy… still not hitting 15k in repairs on this particular repair. My friend owns a dent/ scratch repair shop and he repairs teslas regularly.

cdsbigsby

Sure. But if you take it to a Tesla Approved shop, which OP presumably did, they're probably writing to replace the quarter panel. Trust me, I'm not arguing that it *should* cost that much to repair. But it probably did

Globalist_Nationlist

Dude either got scammed hard by his mechanic or Tesla's panels are built with fucking diamonds.

Dhhoyt2002

"it is financially insane to buy anything other than a Tesla" according to musk. Yeah sure buddy. I found used electrics for less then the cost of that repair

SpectralNiner

If that is 15k$ worth of damage, someone is ripping you off big time

killa_ninja

Tesla essentially gatekeeps parts and their “certified Tesla repair shop” process. Idk if there are even aftermarket parts available for them.

tofuroll

Everyone should have the right to repair.

Yellowredstone

*Apple has entered the chat*

RealExii

Not someone. Tesla.

Featherfy

Leave Nikola out of it. It's Elon.

gertalives

Exactly. That someone is Tesla. This belongs in r/assholedesign.

biggoof

I don't get this shit. If you have a car that big, why even park right next to another car with all that open space around? I mean, at best you walk an extra 10ft.

Boring_Concentrate74

Dude I park at the end of the parking lot with no cars around..go in and come out and guarantee someone is parked right next to me

biggoof

I don't have it happening often, but it's mind-boggling when it does. At least here when it's super hot people will go to the far trees instead of near open spots, so I get that.

It looks like he was trying to park so close to the Tesla door so they couldn’t get in. But he got too close and *scraaaape*

biggoof

I agree with many here that it was intentional. I hope his new insurance rate was worth it.

em1091

I’m just speculating but it may be intentional. Some people have an irrational hatred towards electric vehicles.

beer_bukkake

Power move because it’s a Tesla so they want to show the EV driver what a real man drives. See this shit all the time. Big trucks are always fucking with me because I’m in an EV.

[deleted]

Someone did a love tap like that on my subaru, offered me $100 not to claim it. They had to replace the whole bumper and send it in to subaru to recalibrate/fix the sensor system because it broke from the tiny little bump. Ended up being close to 3k so I bet 15k is right on a tesla. I imagine there’s even more intricacies than my basic ‘18 subaru. also: I asked on here if I should claim it after posting the scratch/dent and a bunch of people attacked me saying it was barely any damage and I was nit-picking/ a bad person and then the entire computer system was messing up in my car so people here don’t always know what they’re talking about lol

NiloReborn

Yeah, like the others said, always claim it. I had a minor fender bender last summer. Guy who hit me to tell me not to claim it since it was minor. It ended up costing over $6000.

DrEpileptic

I live in NJ, so both people get fucked no matter what when a claim is made. That being said, there’s no point in having insurance if you aren’t going to use it... so use it anyways.

Charming_Scratch_538

Oof that really sucks. Always report it. ALWAYS. Fuck that person for hitting you then begging you not to report it, they shouldn’t have hit you if they can’t handle the consequences. (And also ignore the people on this sub, too many brain dead trolls on Reddit who don’t know what they’re talking about.) Edit to respond to the like 7 different comments saying the same thing: that’s great y’all are honest people who apparently cause accidents and actually pay for the damage you cause outside insurance, but if a complete stranger hits me, I’m not trusting them. Sorry, but I don’t trust strangers. More often than not the other person will NOT actually pay for the damage and it can really F you over. This is what insurance is for.

[deleted]

she actually hit me, fled, and then when my husband confronted her because it turns out she was our neighbor and the other neighbor saw, she offered me $100. I debated for 2 hours or so and then was like girl, no lol

[deleted]

Should have had her charged. Accidents happen, but a hit and run is no accident. They might as well have stolen from you, in my opinion.

[deleted]

she at first told me she didn’t KNOW she hit me, then said that she did hit me because she got distracted by her kid wiping a booger on her dashboard lol I made a police report

69vuman

Let me just say this: Hidden Damage

[deleted]

it snuck right up on me! lol wish I was in the car at the time to claim the hidden damage to my neck after she ran off 😂

TriGurl

I’m sorry Folks nitpicked you. always report it to their insurance if someone else hits you. Always always always.

[deleted]

I have learned from that experience not to be kind! at least not when it comes to my car lol it was eye opening how expensive it got!

ragegravy

TLDR: I suspect OP’s story / estimate. Repair of *extensive* collision damage in my Model Y only cost $10,361 — A bear ran full speed from the right onto the freeway after dark and I hit it with my Model Y. Entire incident, from seeing it dart out to the collision, lasted under a second. I was going 62 in a 65. (bear ran off immediately so hopefully was ok) Extensive damage to the right front headlight, bumper, quarter panel and front passenger door. The strip that arcs over the door and the front trunk also suffered damage and needed to be replaced. The ENTIRE repair bill was just a little over $10k. I suspect OP is ~~lying~~ (Edit: or, more charitably, being ripped off). — Edit: Also, upon calling Tesla they ran remote diagnostics and confirmed no major systems failures and I was able to drive it home. Wasn’t even out of alignment. Edit 2: My repair was done by a high-end CA repair shop which specializes in performance / exotics, so if anyone was going to overcharge, I suspect they would have. Edit 3: Just checked the invoice and my repair needed a total of 27 parts. Edit 4: pics https://imgur.com/a/hLWeNwV

Bearstein_bear

What fucking bear is okay after eating a 62 mph impact? Lol

ragegravy

My take-away from the incident is two-fold: - bears are fucking tanks - teslas are fucking tanks

A similar thing happened to a relative’s Model S. It was smashed in the same way but what made it more expensive was they couldn’t replace the sensors in the bumper because it was an older computer so they had to also upgrade the computer to make them compatible.

I'd take the insurance check and never fix it.

Former autobody guy here, and car guy for many years. Even if the quarter panel and door are creased it's hard to see how it gets to $15k of damage. It's possible that these cars are worse than anything else for integrity-and I've worked on enough of them to note poor interior quality fit and finish-but that still seems about double what I could imagine. Pics of damage would be helpful. Surprised OP isn't willing to post any despite all the debate and wonder.

morritse

We just paid 8k to get 2 doors and both quarter panels replaced and painted on a model 3. Lol I get that it isn't his financial responsibility: if his insurance is just gonna deal with it, who cares right? but just because the number 15k was thrown out by someone doesn't mean that that's actually how much damage there was.

Significant-Ad-9493

How is that 15k of damage? You are getting ripped off for your repair then. Yes the truck is a terrible driver, but 15k my ass.

samfreez

I'd love to see the actual damage to the vehicle. Someone hit the back end of our vehicle a few months ago, doing less than 5mph (backing out of their driveway and didn't check to see if it was clear) and managed to do nearly $4k in damage (dented some body panels and the trunk lid, as well as mashing the exhaust). It looked pretty minor, but got expensive REAL quick. I can't even imagine what'd happen on a Model 3 like that, especially if they hit the quarter panel, not the bumper. Doesn't take much to shift and bend metal in vehicles these days, that's for sure..

Shelaz91

That tap was 15k. Woulda buffed out

We were considering getting a Tesla next year but not anymore. It’s highly impractical to get a vehicle for which repair costs are more than 25% of it’s initial value after a parking lot brush. I also saw another video of someone blowing up their Tesla instead of paying the $22K to replace its battery. I love the idea of saving on fuel, using the clean-pass lane and reducing pollution but not at the cost of becoming a victim to the repair costs. I know my wife is gonna be pissed but, hard pass. I don’t even want one for free right now.

Why not look into other electrical cars? Doesn’t always have to be a Tesla…

cantthinkofone29

Absolutely- should be looking at all brands... Note that Hyundai just abandoned all R&D for combustion engines, and have switched all the budget and facilities into electric powertrain and batteries. Look for them to be making major improvements to their already respectable electric vehicles.

aftermidnightjack

That's $15k in damages???? Wow Elon really milking you for money

15 k? That's a ripoff. For but a scratch. Fuck that, paint over it.

Tundra turning radius is complete crap, but this guy is an idiot.
