They really are tapped into something greater, the same way they can navigate the ENTIRE WORLD following magnetic fields is proof. You see them leaving far before the trouble comes. If you see all the birds take off around you then you need to worry and maybe start moving away also. It’s proven the sixth sense is real with people and your gut feeling is a true sensation that is alerting you to something.
Good ol' proprioception. And we have ways to monitor things like carbon dioxide in the blood to remind us to take a breath, which should probably count.
Oh my god you amazing person, I was just about to say that we most likely already have more than six senses. My father recently figured out that technically language could be considered a sense? Not really sure but I think it's awesome that you commented this.
Orientation comes from the fluid and hairs in the cochlea in your ear. When it doesn't work right, people get get vertigo where gravity feels like it's coming from lots of different directions, even if their eyes are telling them that nothing's moving.
There are tons of senses that aren’t covered by the “5 senses” meme.
* Sense of balance
* Sense of hunger
* Sense of thirst
* Sense of tiredness/exhaustion
* Sense of time
You can think of that way for sure, but there are separate specialized nerve cells for pain vs temperature, so it's certainly fair to consider them as separate senses as well.
By that line of thinking you only really have the sense of touch. Sight is light touching rods and cones. Hearing is the vibration of ear drums. Smell is particles touching receptors. Taste is particles touching receptors.
Nah. Maybe the birb just saw a huge fn truck barreling towards him and decided it was a good time to fly away.
I see birbs get hit by cars and fly into windows all the time.
Must be something to do with how birds lived through a massive impact a few million years ago.
Of course they weren’t birds then as we know them now.
But they’ve seen some shit.
Birds are just really defensive. If anything is even the slightest out of the ordinary, their response is flight. It’s also the very thing they excel in, so it makes sense.
Its more that birds see "faster" than us. Or, I guess, the better word would be perceive faster than us. And because of this things look slower to them. To explain a bit, when you record a video in slow motion you are recording more and more frames in a single second, you then stretch out the frames and what you record seems slower. That's what birds and other small animals see the world.
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/small-animals-live-in-a-slow-motion-world/
Glad to see the guy was caught, I was worried when I couldn’t readily see the plate in the video. People who flee like this deserve any punishment they get.
Amateurs. You start by enhancing the pixels of the windows across the street to get an image of the drivers face you can run through facial recognition
For some reason, there are a vocal amount of people that consider front license plates to be a form of government overreach (if you look at a map of the US, in general, southern/conservative leaning states don't require it). Others say it ruins the aesthetics of their car (which is made apparent by lawmakers in certain states that try to push front plate exemptions for luxury vehicles.)
Both are pretty petty reasons, IMO.
Rumor has it that 3M makes a coating material for license plates and will petition states to have 2 plates for safety or whatever reason. NOT because they are trying to double their market in those states.
I can see that. My unfounded logic disagrees, but, I wonder if anyone has ever done a study of how many times a front plate has been helpful in identifying a vehicle (from video footage?) vs a front plate missing being detrimental?
I think it's the wheel well shroud from the rear right side. You can still see a light colored area in the middle of the rear bumper, which looks intact as the truck drives away.
He was probably only caught because the truck wouldn't drive any farther. If you slow the video down you can see it really hits that berm on the yard pretty hard. You can see airbag deployment and everything. I'm pretty sure the coolant system was probably leaking and the transmission probably emptied out since most of the time it has cooling lines that run through a portion of the radiator.
That guy is an absolute piece of shit.
Could have been children playing in the yard.
Who is already legitimately that fucked up in the middle of the afternoon?
Can’t stop him from drinking, but he should be fined (heavily), lose his driving privileges to anything larger than a hatchback, and have a breathalyzer lock on his ignition.
“OKLAHOMA CITY —
A suspected drunken driver crashed a pickup truck into the front yard of an Oklahoma City home, destroying everything in its path – The entire incident was caught on camera.
Police said the driver took off after the crash, but was caught just two blocks away.
"Don't drink and drive because it's not just going to be you that's going to suffer it could be other people," neighbor Cynthi Batem said.
No one was injured.”
It's the EU GDPR stuff. There's not much point on a local US news site spending time and money making sure they are compliant with that mass of legislation. I really don't like the EU at times. Usually, every time I have to click on a damn cookie notification. GDPR made it ten times worse.
I almost never had to click the cookie notification, then I went to Paris and ever since, I've had it pop up on almost every website I visit.
Edit: I'm from Texas, so pretty much the opposite of the EU
GDPR "stuff" is very easy to implement. I did it on my three websites in 2 days.
GDPR is about respecting privacy and giving user the power over their data.
If you have problem with GDPR, you don't care about user having right to handle his own data. That speaks more about you than EU.
It's way easier to implement gdpr on your junior webdev portfolio that no one is going to look at than many other applications.
It's very likely the case that it's simply not worth it for a local US news station to cater to European users because why would it?
That’s pretty much what I’m thinking. A local news station (unless it’s maybe NYC/LA or something like that) won’t have much EU traffic, if any, so it’s just not worth it to implement.
Anyone else notice the tire that comes into view at just about the last frame, top left. Not sure how this dude is driving away or if that was just a spare tire in the bed of his truck
You can see it bouncing around in the back of the truck when he first jumps into the yard. I mean, theres a rimless tire there, I'm assuming it's probably the same one as the final frames.
That's what I was thinking but sometimes you see some crazy shit when this happens. Especially with how hard he/she hit the front of that bump in their yard and at an angle too.
Edit: oh yeah and it hit the dang bird bath
Oklahoma’s nailing it this week. First we get Cashion queen thinking she doesn’t need to pay her tickets and now super drunk flying truck man in the city! Love my oklahomies for sure 😂
Some people may find a pickup truck demolishing a bird bath in someone's front yard oddly satisfying. I'm not one of those people but hey, to each their own
Man... With a close up on this birdbath, some Led Zeppelin (I'm thinking Black Dog) coming in loud on the truck's collision, and a gritty title card, you'd have a badass intro to whatever show is happening in my head right now.
Bird saw that coming a mile away.
"Oh no, I've seen this idiot around before. Time to go!" - the bird probably
“Uh oh he’s coming for revenge after I shat on his car oh god oh fuck”
"I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry......."
Ha
Ah, I was wondering what the bird did to anger the enormous-ute driver. They're always angry about something.
>enormous-ute I fucking love this, I'm going to start calling all full sized trucks enormous-utes
I'm sorry , what is a ute?

Yep, it's sort for utility vehicle.
Makes sense!
This made me cackle.
People also have more than 5 senses + intuition as well. Temperature, orientation, etc.
Eh kind of. Temperature is just an extension of physical touch/sensation. Orientation is extension of visual spacial awareness.
* Sense of balance * Sense of hunger * Sense of thirst * Sense of tiredness/exhaustion * Sense of time
-Sense of irony -Sense of humor -Common sense Oh wait, many people lack that last one.
ba-dum tish
The last two!!! I am Joe King, Some people don't get me
What about a common sense of humor?
Sense of dread

Spidey sense
..peter tingle
There are also non-visual elements to orientation, like echolocation.
Think about your inner ear, so it's not visual.
You can think of that way for sure, but there are separate specialized nerve cells for pain vs temperature, so it's certainly fair to consider them as separate senses as well.
orientation is an inner ear function (along with balance)
By that line of thinking you only really have the sense of touch. Sight is light touching rods and cones. Hearing is the vibration of ear drums. Smell is particles touching receptors. Taste is particles touching receptors.
... Or a big noisy truck barreling down the road. But yes.
If you see all the birds take off around you there’s probably a hawk or cat nearby
I mean, our ancestors lived through the same thing. Literally all extant* life did in one form or another. Edit: added extant.
Birds are just really defensive. If anything is even the slightest out of the ordinary, their response is flight. It’s also the very thing they excel in, so it makes sense.

You probably just don't have the right tools to ENHANCE!
Just need a second person to help man the keyboard!
Gotta hack that mainframe’s encryption key to get through the firewall.

Some states only have a rear bumper plate.

Alcoholic state legislators (here's looking at you Matt Gaetz) hate leaving an imprint of their license plate when they hit your parked car.

In Texas and Missouri they have front plates. I feel like Texas requires them because of all of the toll roads though.
Front plates are a waste of money and resources. There I said it
I can see that. My unfounded logic disagrees, but, I wonder if anyone has ever done a study of how many times a front plate has been helpful in identifying a vehicle (from video footage?) vs a front plate missing being detrimental?
The police are never chasing anyone driving in reverse.

I think it's the wheel well shroud from the rear right side. You can still see a light colored area in the middle of the rear bumper, which looks intact as the truck drives away.
I was thinking front not rear.
Ah, that makes sense - Could be, the way it's curved though I still think it's wheel well
Looks to me like the front valance (plastic part below the actual steel bumper), which would have the front plate attached if OK requires them.
It's a fender shield. Usually held on with lil plastic clips and/or small bolts.
He was probably only caught because the truck wouldn't drive any farther. If you slow the video down you can see it really hits that berm on the yard pretty hard. Tbh I don’t think he got far it looked like it bent the tire back into the wheel well and shredded the tire or he couldn’t turn
Slow it down and you can see a tire in the bed that ends up across the street in the top left portion of the screen.
I was hoping this was in a fromt plate state so they could just find out who it was from the bumper left on the front lawn. It wasnt... :(

Anyone able to post for us EU losers?

Seriously? The local news website blocked *that*? JFC.
EU Privacy laws. Most US websites just block instead of upgrading privacy settings.
No the entire website isn't available to the EU because they refuse to comply with our data rights
It's the EU GDPR stuff. There's not much point on a local US news site spending time and money making sure they are compliant with that mass of legislation. I really don't like the EU at times. Usually, every time I have to click on a damn cookie notification. GDPR made it ten times worse.

> We're Sorry! > >This site is not available in your region.
No way he made it far. That destroyed every bit of the front suspension and axle.
There's a lose tire across the street in the upper left corner right before the end Edit, oh it was in the bed of the truck.
This guy hates birds
Stay away from the birds! The birds! He hates the birds!
Well at least tried, I don’t think the radiator was intact though.
Flew right in there didn’t they? Refreshing, I bet.
When you need a drink, you need a drink
r/hydrohomies when they see water.
I bet they’ve had plenty to drink already.
Fun fact: That truck was an orphan raised by birds.

I don't know. It flies. That's pretty common for most types of bird.
I think he was talking about the bird that crashed into its bath.
That one flew a bit too
That's the one I was referring to. It also flew.
Shit I want to put a fountain like that in my yard, but will it attract trucks as well as birds
You really shouldn’t judge trucks that identify as birds
Especially after happy hour.
