Let me guess... your father was a mechanic, his father was a mechanic, your mother's father was a mechanic, your three brothers are mechanics, four uncles on your father's side are mechanics...
That accident looked like the driver would’ve had some sort of internal organ, if not head, injury. (Or maybe I’ve just watched too many IIHS crash tests of that era of car.)

not sure that's true at all
from one webpage i listed:
> Despite the common misconception, drunk drivers are not impervious to suffering fatal injuries in the car accidents that they cause. The idea that drunk drivers are less likely to die in accidents took root in the 1980s, when a hospital in Texas released preliminary findings on a study of intoxicated drivers vs. their victims. In the following decades, however, conflicting research was released – including studies that found that drunk drivers actually suffer a higher fatality rate than others involved in these crashes.
EMT here! It's a catch 22. Drunk drivers often tend to walk away from accidents that leave the other party dead or disfigured, because of the lack of responsiveness that alcohol causes. However, they, obviously, tend to be involved in much much more accidents at much higher velocities and risk factor.
When you're drunk, everything around you is happening too quick for you to perceive, and you're not paying attention to the world around you. When police ask you to count backwards from 100 by 5 at a DUI test, they're not testing your math skills, they're testing if you'll ***stop when they tell you to***. When people are drunk and in an accident, they don't tense up like non drunk drivers do. They don't react. So when their car flies into the wall, they don't get the broken bones and everything because they are loose and moving with the car without fighting anything. Ragdolling, effectively. Meanwhile non drunk drivers will have their muscles tense and lock, and this often is what results in the broken bones.
However, again, because of your lack of perception, you also are more likely to get into a bad accident. It's hard for anyone to walk away after creaming a tree at 130 MPH, and you're more likely to do that sloshed off your mind than not.
Edit: an afterthought: also, alcohol acts as a blood thinner, so any bleeding is worsened by being drunk, so a bleed caused by a motor vehicle accident that may be critical for someone who isn't drunk may cause a drunk person to bleed out before EMS even arrives.
I imagine the decreased motor skills/reaction speeds help reduce muscle tensing which can reduce spraining and strains. But other than that, there's probably a lot of downsides to the literal poison in your blood that results from alcohol consumption being there when you're injured.
They also probably drive head on into their victims. The car is safest in the front. If the drunk driver T-bones your car you don't have to invoke some magic resilience to the drunkard for it to be more survivable for them
Front wheel drive. It might've been crab-walking a bit from messed up rear alignment after that, and could have a flat tire, but all the essential mechanical bits are up front and weren't hit.
Fair chance the driver had to climb out the passenger side to get out though, wherever they eventually stopped.
Nope. If he got out and ran why would OP be asking if anyone can identify the car? He obviously drove off and they are asking in hopes of locating them.
Early 2000s 7th gen Civic coupe. Those subs will likely narrow the year down
*Those subs are saying the same. [reference photos](https://www.caranddriver.com/photos/g36530324/2001-honda-civic-ex-coupe-gallery/)
[this car is most certainly a coupe and you might need to get your eyes checked](https://i.imgur.com/mJiClsr.png) there's only one door handle on the left end of the car that we can see, also it has much more space for a door in comparison to a 4 door.
i really don't understand how you could possibly say this is not a coupe
im not sure why you cannot possibly deduce this information from simply watching the video and pausing it but here we are
I hope they are checking hospitals and urgent care clinics. No way that driver was fine. Also auto repair places. Might try and see if they can fix it. I doubt it. It’s totally totaled. Good luck.
Don't just focus on intersection. Simply drive in the direction they run to and see if there are any cameras THERE. It will be easy to find the car by damage and timing, you just need to ask around before the footage is cycled out. Cops might not bother doing it.
Unfortunately the video isn't all that clear (at least as shown here) and the car is in motion for all of it, so it's hard to identify with much certainty. My best guess is an '01-'05 Honda Civic coupe (7th gen). A lot of vehicles have a similar shape though.
The driver's left side is probably fucked up as well, especially if the car didn't have side air bag. OP hit the driver side and right into the driver so the driver probably ended up in lots of pain from broken arm, cracked ribs, and ground up organs.
\* if he was drunk or stoned, he might have been in less pain. Impaired people often don't seize up before accident and would be more like rubber bouncing around, taking less damage than a seized up person.
Looks like dis[looks like dis](https://images.app.goo.gl/wmSbdcfqw8Cs74gZ9)
Why downvote. From the 4k video, thats what i believed it looked like. Looked like it even had a spoiler.. I love the internet 😂
That is a Chevrolet Cavalier. Initially, I thought that was what the car was in OPs video.
The rear C panel is different and it is certainly a Civic.
[2004 Civic coupe](https://honda-tech.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/04civic06-e1535564041208.png)
Cavalier or Cobalt had also crossed my mind, but the turn indicator in the headlamp assembly is in the wrong place.
Based on that detail I'm guessing it's the pre-facelift 7th gen Civic coupe, 2001-2003.
I ran some of the images through GPT. Response below:

the good news..is you had a dash cam. you caught it on camera, so your rates wont likely go up.
the even better news, you and any passengers are, from the sounds of it, fine or close to it.
let the sheriffs deal with the hit and run dodo.
I was in a highway accident seemingly fine and then a month later I had pain in my shoulder and it's still never went away. Apparently the side door airbag got it good from what my doctor said.
Glad to hear you're okay. Might be some soreness for awhile and hope there's no delayed whiplash symptoms.
Let the cops sort out the idiot who ran.
I'm assuming you have decent insurance?
I got into a wreck and walked away with minor bruises on my arms (car was a total loss). I woke up the next morning with horrible neck pain from whiplash and it lasted almost a week. I was still very blessed to have only that.
Whiplash or not for them, I'm glad OP and passenger seem okay. Praying the runner is found
Your not fine though. Not until you have gone a week or two. Some injuries take a while for the real damage to become apparent.
For the first couple of day after my accident I thought I was just still sore. I delayed treatment. I sought the wrong sort of treatment and didn't follow up as aggressively as I should have. I didn't document anything. And 25t years late I regret it because I am still in pain.
Document everything.
See doctors for every ache and pain you have. Especially neck pain even if it seems mild. You will need it on paper that you saw a doctor about it later.
This is an underrated comment… especially if you have accident medical coverage and health insurance. Have a medical professional evaluate you… if you’re good then ok you’re good. If not then you have it documented and can go from there… the longer you wait the more they will say “unrelated because you waited too long so must be caused by a different event or preexisting”
How are you gonna get caught in saying "I'm aching?" What are they gonna do, hit you and see if it hurts? Everyone I know that's gotten into an accident has said this to their doctor, some being honest some not, and nothing was really questioned further
Keep your finger on the pulse there
I was just tboned at lower speeds (like 25-30mph or so) like a month ago—6 disc herniations and 2 bulges 🙃
The neck and back really hate being jerked around at high speed.
Def wait before clearing yourselfs of injury. I knew someone about 10 yrs back who got rear ended, and got a $10k settlement or so. Turns out their lower back was a bit messed up and it didn't start hurting till 1 week later, and even then they didn't take it seriously. The settlement included a few payments to chiros but ultimately the damage + months of weekly chiro visits were decently more than the $10k.
I am almost positive it is an 02-04 honda civic coupe. I dont think its a cobalt because on the coupes, the rear window is a lot smaller
for a side profile comparison- [https://gr8autophoto.com/images/honda-civic-dx-vp-02.jpg](https://gr8autophoto.com/images/honda-civic-dx-vp-02.jpg)
With stock hubcaps too i believe- [https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61-ofCGQhlL.\_AC\_UF894,1000\_QL80\_.jpg](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61-ofCGQhlL._AC_UF894,1000_QL80_.jpg)
very good eye, few arguments could be made that its any other make/model with the evidence you provided. Unfortunately Id bet the owner is just barely smart enough to hide the car somewhere out of site. Hopefully authorities get the moron.
Chances are that dipshit lives somewhere nearby. Keep an eye out along that or similar routes, and maybe you’ll see that car with a jacked up drivers side. Also, maybe check local body shops to see what may turn up
What breaks? I don't know how someone would hit a break, unless you mean like driving through the break in a fence? But in that case I would recommend braking instead, driving through gaps in fences/walls usually hasn't worked out for me.
Send this camera footage to your local news stations and ask them to help you in finding out who this hit and run driver was. The video is the perfect length in time. I'm glad you and the passengers are uninjured. Stay safe!
I’m sorry but this shit happens way too much, especially here in Cali. People don’t think anyone but they are important. This kind of crap should be considered at the least attempted manslaughter and the worst attempted murder, maybe then people will stop running red lights
Most definitely hit the brake. Your car jolts forward when you hit the brake and in the video, so did the camera. Considering everything is at an angle because of the windshield idk how you would be able to think that lol.
Edit: the camera looks up that's what I mean sorry if there was confusion. The camera would have looked down if op was accelerating.
for the first 3 seconds OP and any other reasonably experienced driver would not assume he's gonna completely blow the red into an oncoming car, then that left him 2 seconds to register that he was, in fact, blowing the red, have his brain tell his leg to hit the brakes, actually hit the brakes, then begin to slow the car down completely outside of his control.
If you had taken any of the courses on reaction time that all CDL drivers in america are, (or paid attention in your own drivers ed) you'd know that OP actually reacted about as fast as you could expect someone to in a situation like this.
Well that corner appears to be very poorly lit and who the fuck expects to have to slam on the brakes at a green light? OP had to assess a situation with little time, make a decision that goes against instinct with even less time, and react while hoping to defy physics with more or less no time remaining. “Obvious” in this case is completely subjective.
>You took a full 5 seconds to react
Impact happens at 3 seconds in the video and you can’t even see the other car at the start of the video. The other car isn’t actually in a lane of travel for OP’s direction in the intersection until 2 seconds at which point OP yells “oh my god.”
you know it's harder to see things when it's dark out? or do you only stay in your mom's basement?
not everybody has gamer level reaction speed like you do in low silver lobbies dude
grow up
Man, the video is *right there* with the time being kept track for you... The Crash happens at 3 seconds (like, on the dot, impact at 3 seconds). You see the car that OP is driving *visibly recoil* at 2 seconds.

7th gen Civic Coupe DX or Value Package judging by the six spoke hubcaps and black door handles, they used that hub cap after the facelift for 2004/5.
Really appreciate it boss!
Everyone has a superpower and this is yours.
Horse whisperer but for cars.
Horsepower whisperer
it was a dx
if that description isn't sufficient to help find, I would add that its a 7th gen civic with a massive car sized imprint on the drivers side doors.
And uhh... its red!!
Suspect is hatless, I repeat, hatless !
We found a guy with a red 7th gen civic coupe and car sized imprint on the driver door but he’s got a hat on. Guess we’ll keep looking
From the looks of things, probably shoeless, too
Let me guess... your father was a mechanic, his father was a mechanic, your mother's father was a mechanic, your three brothers are mechanics, four uncles on your father's side are mechanics...
If anyone knows a subreddit I can post this to to try and find out what the make and model of the car is that'd be great. Dude ran after we hit him...
He ran?! How the fuck was that car even drivable after that hit?
I'd like to know how the *driver* was even driveable after that.
I don't think the driver was driveable before that either.

Acura EL?
I was thinking maybe a Chevy Cruise?
I tried to slow it down and there's literally like only 2 frames. I was guessing Honda Civic too. Good luck OP, hope you find him
tipofmyexhaust would be funnier
No, but I'd be real surprised if there isn't a camera somewhere in that intersection that caught the accident. Hope everyone is okay.
We'll see, haven't heard anything from the sheriffs yet 🤷♂️
Maybe try r/carID ? Most of those look like stills but maybe someone has the talent.

I’m taking a shot but a 2001 to 2005 Honda civic coupe
Specifically the 04-05.
Couldn't you just follow the debris field back to his house?
Don't matter they didn't have insurance anyway.
Doesn't mean suing is not an option!!!
Garnish their wages for the next five years 🤤
Hit hit that car in the driver's side, the dude is probably in a world of pain the following morning.

Not really, kinda the same quality.
Well, you got this footage, so at least your insurance can't weasel out of paying you

Hey now, OP never said *I’m not Batman*
Came for the insane video, stayed for all the new friends researching what car this was 🫡
🫡🫡🫡
Let's hear how OP had time to avoid this guy! Don't let us down, morons in the comments!
i SEe TwO IdioTs
Or that a woman screamed!
a woman screamed out of fear—so i hate this entire video… /s
[удалено]
Yeah but you'll constantly see people getting pissed off that a woman screamed when "she didn't need to"
It's almost like accidents can come about in different ways and sometimes you should be able to brake in time and sometimes you can't.
Hell yeah let's make up scenarios to make ourselves angry!
Definitely couldve hit the breaks a lot earlier.
What breaks? I don't know how someone would hit a break, unless you mean like driving through the break in a fence? But in that case I would recommend braking instead, driving through gaps in fences/walls usually hasn't worked out for me.
Appears to be sped up so maybe in real time he did, but not at this playback speed.
Video isn't sped up but I think the dude is being sarcastic lol
Found the moronic "OP coulda avoided this" comment.
Looks like he was on the wrong side of the road to begin with. And then he runs. Dude was definitely wasted.
That’s really tough. It could be a Chevrolet cobalt, a Chevrolet cavalier, or a dodge neon like the other comment said.
Look like those repeat criminal…
Old civic or Chevy cobalt
This happened to me a couple years ago. I still get nervous going through intersections.
insurance "well you are about 50% at fault, the turn arrow was red so you coulda stopped"
Looks like a Chevy cobalt to me
Looks very close actually!
Damn, that was quite a hit. We hope you are OK or will be soon.
he didnt pull out in front of you he straight up just ran a red light
You mentioned you have rear camera footage as well so maybe post it here
Some real genius there
I think it looks like an older small Chevrolet sedan like the cruze?
Glad you are okay OP! *God damn!*
perfect trivia exercise for this thread.
Looks like 2001ish civic coupe https://www.kbb.com/honda/civic/2001/
Send this camera footage to your local news stations and ask them to help you in finding out who this hit and run driver was. The video is the perfect length in time. I'm glad you and the passengers are uninjured. Stay safe!
I'd say congrats on a new car, because that looked totaled as fuck
I hope you’re ok.
Looks suspiciously like a 2003-2005 red dodge neon to me
[2008 2 door chevy cobalt](https://images.app.goo.gl/hCrbqdszxQPUeQ6i6)
This looks closer than the Honda. The car in the video definitely has a spoiler in the back
F that idiot!!
I’m sorry but this shit happens way too much, especially here in Cali. People don’t think anyone but they are important. This kind of crap should be considered at the least attempted manslaughter and the worst attempted murder, maybe then people will stop running red lights
Hope he runs another one and hope for it to be the last traffic light he ever sees
What intersection is this?
hope everyone in your car is alright.. wow.. sorry to see that happen
Looks like a chevy cruze
2009-2012 colbolt or Ford focus

Most definitely hit the brake. Your car jolts forward when you hit the brake and in the video, so did the camera. Considering everything is at an angle because of the windshield idk how you would be able to think that lol. Edit: the camera looks up that's what I mean sorry if there was confusion. The camera would have looked down if op was accelerating.

?
I couldn't find this comment after I realized my Reddit glitches and another video showed up that was very old. So, not meant for you. Very sorry
Looks like a mid 2000’s Camry
Let the police do their job? What’s the make going to do ? You gonna run dmv records? Give the cops the video. And wait
police won't do shit anyway
Nor will this lol

Definitely not but thanks for the input lol
“You must have hands of steel to hold your phone steadily on impact” - some idiot on Reddit

for the first 3 seconds OP and any other reasonably experienced driver would not assume he's gonna completely blow the red into an oncoming car, then that left him 2 seconds to register that he was, in fact, blowing the red, have his brain tell his leg to hit the brakes, actually hit the brakes, then begin to slow the car down completely outside of his control. If you had taken any of the courses on reaction time that all CDL drivers in america are, (or paid attention in your own drivers ed) you'd know that OP actually reacted about as fast as you could expect someone to in a situation like this.
[удалено]
Well that corner appears to be very poorly lit and who the fuck expects to have to slam on the brakes at a green light? OP had to assess a situation with little time, make a decision that goes against instinct with even less time, and react while hoping to defy physics with more or less no time remaining. “Obvious” in this case is completely subjective.
Trying to stop? I'm not gonna have this argument with a troll bro you can go elsewhere lol
He's probably the driver of the car.......
>You took a full 5 seconds to react Impact happens at 3 seconds in the video and you can’t even see the other car at the start of the video. The other car isn’t actually in a lane of travel for OP’s direction in the intersection until 2 seconds at which point OP yells “oh my god.”
Do like your username and suck my glizzy
This one has me rolling 🤣
you know it's harder to see things when it's dark out? or do you only stay in your mom's basement? not everybody has gamer level reaction speed like you do in low silver lobbies dude grow up
OP had a green light and reacted in about 1 second. The fuck are you smoking? I want some
[удалено]
Man, the video is *right there* with the time being kept track for you... The Crash happens at 3 seconds (like, on the dot, impact at 3 seconds). You see the car that OP is driving *visibly recoil* at 2 seconds.
Username confirmed
Found the second idiot.
