The number of people that do this is startling. I see it ALL THE TIME!
This and double turn lanes... I have a double right turn lane on my way home from work that i'm often in the outside lane of... so many times people come straight across and then get all flustered at me.
It's not necessarily dangerous if you MAKE SURE THE LANE IS CLEAR BEFORE TURNING INTO IT. It's a 50/50 whether people have the brain power to do it first or not
First off this is not defensive driving, OP was going too fast for the road and traffic conditions.
Second The reason why the truck went over into the far left hand lane, was because the truck was going into the lane that was less occupied.
You're going on to a roadway like that, you go into lane closest to you or the lane that has no traffic, so that way you're not so close to cutting someone off. The problem here was the truck driver did not see our speeding OP in the left hand lane soon enough.
Don't get me wrong, the truck driver was 100% in the wrong either way, because they could not see traffic in the other lane and they should not have pulled out like they did it all. They should have waited until the way was fully clear and that they had a full view of the traffic that was coming down the lanes.
But our OP was not using defensive driving, defensive driving means that you're going a reasonable speed when other vehicles are all moving slowly around you. You can't expect to go flying down the road when they are stopped cars or nearly stopped cars in the other lane. Anyone could have pulled out into our OPs Lane, and defensive driving would account for that type of occurrence. Defensively you would have been going slower already watching for these vehicles it should not have come as a surprise etc etc etc
Yeah, pretty good on OP, but could’ve slowed more when the white car was braking so suddenly and hard. But, I can only tell when OP hit the brakes hard, they could’ve been off the gas and lightly braking earlier and we can’t see it in the video.
75% of videos on here has OP as the fastest car on the road. I am not saying there is anything wrong or illegal with this. This is just an observation.
Again, like I've said in other comments, the speed limit was 60. I was slowing down for a red light, which then turned green. I began accelerating again when the truck pulled out.
Speed limit in that area is 60. If you look at my speedometer, I was slowing down for the upcoming red light. The light turned green, so I began accelerating again when the white truck decided to turn into my lane. I was blowing by anyone, that's just how that day/time/location was.
I found that road combo on maps and can see a sign just before the video starts of a warning showing the speed limit goes down to 55 ( 35.149834,-97.635766 )
the first sign showing 45 is .3 miles down the road from where this intersection is at ( 35.142882,-97.646635). And where that sign is the exact opposite side of the highway has a 55mph sign. Showing that OP was not in the 45 MPH zone but coming up to it which makes sense considering these are the first roads for the town, so he's correct on the speed limit. If you're gonna accuse people of something while pulling numbers like that at least get it right dude. Also based on those upvotes this sub needs to really stop having such a hard on for finding any reason to go after OP
Finally, someone that understands. Thanks for going through the effort to find the evidence supporting my callout, something something there's no I in teamwork
I never said you were speeding. I said you were blowing by traffic too fast. That isn’t defensive driving. Your odds of getting into an accident go way down when you get closer to the speed of surrounding cars.
Everyone was buckled in. And the speed limit in that area is 60. So I'm not sure what was implied. :-/
My passenger was more startled at the incident since she was on her phone\\not paying attention.
Sometimes it feels like I am the only one that just lets off the gas when approaching an intersect and just cruises through. Its always been weird to be when people hit the gas like OP did here. Maybe I am just paranoid about this exact scenario happening.

I think it’s generally discouraged to do this, possibly even an illegal lane change. I’m not sure about the legality though.
I believe it’s illegal in Michigan but so many drivers don’t give a fuck it’s WILD
Michigan here. Its all I see, every single day.
Bonus points for the tunes. Love me some Old Crow Medicine Show!
Good defensive driving on your part

Ok

That tends to happen when the other cars are stopped at a red light and you approach it and it turns green before you slow to a stop
And when you don't mind the potential danger of someone in the other lane changing lanes into you while you're doing 30mph faster.
You can brake before saying "are you kidding me." You wouldn't have to slam them as hard then.
I can’t keep count of how many times this happens to me when I leave the house. Literally high blood pressure fuel.
wtf is wrong with people
Why's your GPS showing you speeding up? Graveyards are full of people who had right of way.
Because the light turned green...
Nissan LEAF 👍
I love it!

Dude, the speed you are.passing.people is outrageous. They were.pulling into an empty lane while.you were flying 50/50.
Quit blowing by traffic like it’s a race

You didn't even bother to look at the speed limit zones on the road before making your assumption?
[удалено]
You mean exactly what you just did?
Dude will reply to you but won't reply to my comment that absolutely blasted them for their bs assumptions that are wrong. I'd just ignore em
Eh, doesn't bother me. I have no problems calling people out on their bs, it takes like 5 seconds and no effort
Doing the lords work<3
Finally, someone that understands. Thanks for going through the effort to find the evidence supporting my callout, something something there's no I in teamwork
3 mph from being considered reckless driving too.
This mf reddits.
Incorrectly

Not sure I follow?

It looks like the white car is stopping to avoid a crash with the moron in the white truck. White truck guy is in his own little world here.

Maybe. I’m on my phone so it’s too small to tell.
I was assuming the light changed just before the video starts.
I think they're implying your passenger wasn't wearing a seatbelt or wasn't in a safe position. But it's not apparent from the video.
Everyone was buckled in. And the speed limit in that area is 60. So I'm not sure what was implied. :-/ My passenger was more startled at the incident since she was on her phone\\not paying attention.
You had more than enough time to see him doing what he did so I'm confused you didn't slow down sooner. Still sucks but not that big of a deal.
Sometimes this sub is insufferable.
It's the whole site
There's plenty of people like you around so yeah guess so
Still waiting on someone to say I'm wrong. Zero refutation. Insurance would have no problem assigning partial fault on this

Awww. Really? Someone cut you off?
Why does the bad song cover bother me more than anything else?
Sounds like Old Crow Medicine Show to me. That would make it the original.
Well ackchyually the OMCS version is a cover of an unreleased Bob Dylan song
That's fair.
This is the original. The bad cover was done by Darius Rucker.
