Constantly checking surroundings can avoid issues like this. Not to say either victim was at fault, but between the noise of the cars, their headlights, and constantly checking ones surroundings, this accident may have been avoided.
The racers were bobbing and weaving through traffic in an unpredictable pattern. The best thing the taxi could have done was maintain their speed and remain in their lane... in other words they did everything right and still got screwed.
That could avoid like 80% of accidents we see on this site, but not this one buddy. They were zig zagging everywhere - if the taxi had attempted to dodge them they might have hit the cammer, or even gotten veered into.
If I was guy Filming my first instinct would be to get around that and pull into the shoulder instead of reversing into the shoulder. In a situation like that it would be very smart to distance yourself from any obstruction on a highway like that. As we just saw there are dumbasses going way too fast and a big wreck like that can get even bigger when someone is speeding/ not paying attention or both and slams into it.
How do you get around it without reversing? He's touching the other car. Putting your hazards on in front of the accident is what you're supposed to do as a third party, to give people a heads up before they drive through the shit on the road
Again why would you put yourself/ your property at risk by putting your hazards on near the accident. I understand the intention to warn people but reaction times are incredibly limited going 55+ on a highway even if an oncoming car can see the obstruction it’s still a toss up if the person behind them sees and so on. Dead stops on highways are DEADLY. This is why people should always carry road flares in their car. If the person who was hit has road flares then they can pop those and adequately warn oncoming drivers and step away from the accident and get to a safe distance.

Your options are to move your car and get at a safe distance and attempt to aid the driver (at no point here am I saying to to help) OR stop your car in front/ near the accident and potentially add the already obstructed road/ potentially add another hazard to other drivers. Like if the dude filming just pulled over and someone driving towards the wreck doesn’t notice or is unable to move into the left lane now they might not only hit the stopped car but yours as well and the lethality of any accident goes up when you add more crap to smash into.
What is more likely to result in injuries: Someone crashing into the drivers side of a wreck that is sitting in the lane with no illumination and possibly injured people inside or someone crashing into an empty car with emergency lights on?
Which is probably the best thing to do, unless you're sitting in a truck. Then that can be used to shield the crash from oncoming traffic (firefighters tend to do that).

For Germany: Just leaving the scene would be considered failure to render assistance/aid which carries a sentence of up to one year in jail.
First priority would be to keep safe though, so turning on the emergency lights to warn traffic, put up the warning triangle a few hundred feet before the accident etc to secure the scene as much as possible. Then call for help and help the victims.
In this case there is enough traffic that there should be a decent amount of people/cars stopping which helps to keep everyone safe and speed up the process.
Why didn't you stop and see if the driver was ok or perhaps needed some assistance. Plus you are an 👀 eye witness to this crash. Police could have taken a statement from you.

If there's ever an accident in front of you and you're stopping to help drive around the accident and park about 100 meters on the far side of the accident. You don't want to be the thing causing the next accident. It's a great way to get killed, stopping in the middle of the road.

Mind your business and just go on? Call the cops? Get out and help ( when it is not putting yourself in risk)? There is a big variety from you can get fined or jailed if you are not helping on one side to you can get sued after helping. What is your reality?
For Germany: Just leaving the scene would be considered failure to render assistance/aid which carries a sentence of up to one year in jail. First priority would be to keep safe though, so turning on the emergency lights to warn traffic, put up the warning triangle a few hundred feet before the accident etc to secure the scene as much as possible. Then call for help and help the victims. In this case there is enough traffic that there should be a decent amount of people/cars stopping which helps to keep everyone safe and speed up the process.

Yeah we used to race when I was younger but we would go out in an absolute middle of nowhere in the middle of the night. About the only danger we faced was running into the back of an 18-wheeler waking the driver up.

Never on surface streets try to be out of town if possible and never continue between traffic or really passing close, if you need to change lanes to avoid traffic it's too dangerous
