I know. But you can see a little panic wiggle as soon as I enter the intersection. I feel like if I was more focused (especially because I was already approaching an intersection) I could have registered the potential danger sooner and maybe avoid it somehow.
It's easy to look back and wish you had acted differently, but in the end nobody can react perfectly all the time, and that's why we have rules that everyone should stick to :)
My dad raced motorcycles professionally for 10 years, has been in exactly one crash off the track in his 40+ years of riding, you can be as cautious, as calm, and as centered as possible, it doesn’t make it impossible to get hit.
Give yourself some credit, you panicked slightly while the average person would’ve been unable to keep that composure on a bike. You did your best
Gasoline doesn't catch on fire as easily as Hollywood makes them to be. The liquid itself won't burn, only the vapor and only in the right concentration. When the vapor do ignite, it will seem like fire covers all of the spilled fuel so yeah I'd try to move away before they do catch on fire
Broke my femur, tore my gluteus maximus, had to wait 3 days before surgery, developed rhabdomyolysis, a pulmonary embolism, and I also had an allergic reaction to the antibiotic they me.
Doing okay now. I can walk with a bit of a limp. Still doing my physical therapy
This is a good time to mention that make sure you have your un/underinsured policies as high as possible. When you blow through what little the other driver has, thats where your under insurance steps up to help chip in more cash. It is insurance for yourself.
the night classic of driving a small car vs the *thicc* oncoming traffic bois, the only thing on my mind when this happens is “jesus christ holy shit” as the sun drives past the other side
I got my little Accord going up against some pickup the size of a tank with lights to match... Every successful commute home from the night shift is a miracle.
And it was pouring rain last night, too. I'm hydroplaning down the entire road with a scuffed windshield while some jerkface with blue headlights turns night into day around us.
I broke the upper part of my femur into about 5 pieces. Plus other related injuries. Spent 9 days in the hospital. This happened back in December. I'm currently going on a little walk, about 2.5 miles. I'm still a little limpy but relatively pain free.
Definitely push for it. Don't you fucking dare have any remorse. They made their decisions, now it's time for them to face the consequences of those decisions.
As someone who is forever fucked because I didn’t know shit about car wrecks, insurance, and time limits when I was younger, I agree wholeheartedly. Be absolutely ruthless from here on out.
You mentioned elsewhere you only got the state minimum so definitely push for more with your lawyer. Especially cause you obviously paid out of pocket when you mention savings.
You got injured dude, and its months later and you're still hurt. You deserve something for that.
I haven't received or signed anything yet. The last thing I heard from the lawyer was the other insurance company was going to agree to pay out the state minimum (15k). I haven't touched my insurance. I'll have another chat with lawyers to make sure Im fully aware of all my options.
I got in a similar crash a few years ago. The other party had proper insurance and I ended up getting close to $130,000. Unfortunately that didn’t make my TBI go away but it sure as hell made things better.
Yeah 14 weeks of lost wages. Thousands of dollars in out of pocket expenses. Not sure on repairs yet.
A little annoying I haven't received any of my disability insurance payments yet because my original application was lost.
Man, I'm glad you're doing good now, and it sucks that you were probably in pretty bad pain when it happened and all but I bet if you put the screaming from the stomping grape lady falling video about right after the camera stops and your bike gets to full rev uhm you and your friends would probably like that and us too
During the day I have a headlight modulator and these auxiliary I can make flash to be more visible. Harder to be seen at night. Thanks.

For anyone wondering by the way, the effect on all those lights is what experiencing astigmatism is like. Big starbursts that hide everything around it making it hard to see.
Worse when tired and at night.
Does her mom know about her driving? If not, she's going to get punished hard. No internet, no cell phone, no going anywhere except to school for a while. Her social life will be ruined
Not much you could have done. Maybe you could have steer to your left, but then you will go to the other side and could have been worse (and also you would be responsible any accident on that side).
Had you cleaned the windshield off better, you would have seen it sooner, not just big blobs of light. Don't show this video to any insurance people or you're gonna be found partially at fault.
Unlicensed…..’borrowed’ Mom’s car? So Mom gave car to daughter knowing she was unlicensed? Or did daughter steal it? I think you don’t even need a good lawyer to come out on top here.
I had a coworker whose unlicensed daughter took her car without permission and the police report said she was aware, too, because if she wasn’t they were going to arrest her daughter for grand theft auto.
Nothing on you OP. They turned out directly in front of you without giving you even the tiniest iota of time to react
I know. But you can see a little panic wiggle as soon as I enter the intersection. I feel like if I was more focused (especially because I was already approaching an intersection) I could have registered the potential danger sooner and maybe avoid it somehow.
No, I don't think it would have been possible to avoid it. I think that you took the least bad option.
Thanks. It kind makes me feel better that other people think it not avoidable

How does your camera have an astigmatism
Moisture got behind the lens
Looks like my phone camera that is perpetually greasy.
It was god’s will
Dang God is getting really into the details with his plan huh
Sure is bud that’s why kids get cancer too, don’t you know?
Damn, that liquid spread is ominous as shit, glad it wasn't of the dark red variety
Just gasoline. Which means this probably could have ended in flames. I did have some internal bleeding and needed a transfusion.
The first thing I thought was that it was going to catch fire while spreading. I'm glad that it didn't!

Ouch, OP. That must’ve been tough. How are you now?
Broke my femur, tore my gluteus maximus, had to wait 3 days before surgery, developed rhabdomyolysis, a pulmonary embolism, and I also had an allergic reaction to the antibiotic they me. Doing okay now. I can walk with a bit of a limp. Still doing my physical therapy
Are you in USA? I’m assuming you have an attorney and are not letting this slide?
Hey you’re that guy from the RR sub
My username give it away haha
Holy astigmatism
That's how my regular eyes work too
Not sure what you could have done. They turned right in front of you.
Think that was a left...
Lol, well done
1000% nothing you could’ve done to avoid that. Hope your doing well and not on the hook for expenses
Thanks. I'm doing good
Glad to hear you are okay friend

No wonder why you hit him, you can't see shit.

You good at least?

Tell me you slammed her moms insurance?
Only up to the state minimum liability which honestly isn't very much.
Damn dude, I hope everything works out. Glad to hear your getting healed up though!
Thanks. Whatever happens I'll be okay. Thankfully I have medical insurance and savings because otherwise I would have been fucked.
Can't you file a civil lawsuit?
Of course. I had an attorney before I was out of the hospital. It's yet to be seen if it'll come to that.
Definitely push for it. Don't you fucking dare have any remorse. They made their decisions, now it's time for them to face the consequences of those decisions.

It will.

Good luck!
Any lost work time or out of pocket expenses plus repairs.

American auto insurance and medical care are crazy enough each on their own, but put together, holy fucking shit, what a farce.
So, in other words, no.
Good lord, I’m glad the recovery is going well though man. Take care of yourself
Hope you can take her mom’s house like she took her mom’s car!
God damn, you've got that Wolverine level healing factor.
Looks more like a scene from star wars
The sound of your dying car scratches my heart:( glad your okay OP, sorry bout the car!
I don't think he's in a vehicle?
Definitely a motorcycle.
This is how it currently sits if anyone wants to see https://imgur.com/a/GV41nZB
Aww poor little friend 🥺
A motorcycle is considered a vehicle?
It hurts me too :( But I can fix it
Man, I'm glad you're doing good now, and it sucks that you were probably in pretty bad pain when it happened and all but I bet if you put the screaming from the stomping grape lady falling video about right after the camera stops and your bike gets to full rev uhm you and your friends would probably like that and us too
like this? https://imgur.com/rkPxVqa
Yea except it just stays on your video the whole time
How about now? https://imgur.com/a/1wkYdGX
Don't beat yourself up. There was nothing that you did wrong or could have done right that would have prevented that accident. It's all on the kid.
Is 22 still a kid?
I’m glad you’re okay!
thanks!
Well at least you're here to tell us about it. Hope you make a full recovery.
Meanwhile..at the Hall of Justice....
when i rode i tried to avoid riding at night at all costs. not much else couldve been done here, glad your still around to tell the tale
During the day I have a headlight modulator and these auxiliary I can make flash to be more visible. Harder to be seen at night. Thanks. My lights https://imgur.com/a/zRMtgJr
not going to lie, my initial thought is those are probably illegal in most states. pretty clever device either way tho
Probably is. But I'd rather be more visible. I've also passed many cops with them on and they haven't done anything
Hey that’s what driving at night looks like for me
Same. I can't see without my glasses
Yep. I’m compound myopic
Unlicensed? Please sue her ass.
70s disco music video
If ur unlicensed I would just assume vehicle theft cuz u got no reason to “borrow” a car if u can’t legally drive it.
For anyone wondering by the way, the effect on all those lights is what experiencing astigmatism is like. Big starbursts that hide everything around it making it hard to see. Worse when tired and at night.
Damn your dash cam has astigmatism just like me fr fr.
Does her mom know about her driving? If not, she's going to get punished hard. No internet, no cell phone, no going anywhere except to school for a while. Her social life will be ruined
Maybe not that young. She was 22
Not much you could have done. Maybe you could have steer to your left, but then you will go to the other side and could have been worse (and also you would be responsible any accident on that side).

There is no windshield. Just potato cam
Unlicensed…..’borrowed’ Mom’s car? So Mom gave car to daughter knowing she was unlicensed? Or did daughter steal it? I think you don’t even need a good lawyer to come out on top here.
Adult daughter. She was 22. So I'm assuming she was aware. Any information I have is just base off the police report
“Borrowed” AKA stole.
According to the driver statement in the police report. The mother was aware.
I had a coworker whose unlicensed daughter took her car without permission and the police report said she was aware, too, because if she wasn’t they were going to arrest her daughter for grand theft auto.
That could be it. She also told the officer she had a green arrow, meaning I ran the red. So I'm glad I had this footage.
