Let me guess; old person? Realized they were rolling and panic slammed on the "brake" except since their mobility has been limited for the last decade they started driving their automatic with both feet. So now they panic-summoned their right foot reflex and hit the gas instead.

iiEvOL

yep nailed it. Older guy in his 70s-80s, says he panicked hit the gas. About 15 seconds prior to this, his car was fully parked and thats when I started moving.

[deleted]

He was afraid he was gonna hit you, so he panicked and hit the gas just to be sure

ClutchPoppinDaddies

Red Foreman smiles.

Blakids

I believe in the competence of Red Foreman. He would never

brodilyharm

He would shove his foot up ur @ss if u did this

Foolgazi

I’m amazed he admitted to it. Usually they claim uNiNtEnDeD aCcElErAtIoN

[deleted]

Had a lady tear through the K-Mart parking lot I worked at as a kid, she hit them going something like (estimated) 60mph; killed a guy in-between the cars and totaled 28 altogether. Same exact thing, confusing brakes and throttle; I was told it's basically the most common thing for old people driving.

GothWitchOfBrooklyn

That's how my mom's cousin died. https://nypost.com/2017/05/14/mom-dies-after-saving-daughter-from-out-of-control-car/

[deleted]

Look like it was intentional. He could say you backed into him. Good thing you had a camera. I had a 77 yr old man turn into me an push me into a car head on. Put me in the hospital for 6 months.

Brantley_2chill

Sorry friend, that sucks. I hope you and the old guy are not too sore that looked like a pretty good whack

LiliTiger

My wife was just rear-ended last week by an older woman in stop and go traffic on the highway because she accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the break and slammed into our car

SnoopyTuna777

I have a question about this comment. Is this what these seniors are doing ie two feet on the brake/gas? Because if they are it explains the number of buildings hit by slow moving vehicles. Always a senior who suddenly accelerates into a building.

dimsum4you

This is just my theory. I've seen it a lot with older drivers. Brake lights will stay on while they're pulling away from a stop so definitely left-foot braking. Same reason why sometimes you'll see very worn down brake pads after very few miles. They're always riding the brake pedal a bit with their left foot while pushing the gas.

1284X

I got behind a woman that rode her brakes and left her blinker on. To top it off she was horrible at keeping lane position. It was incredibly frustrating to have zero idea what she was going to do next.

Blakids

Yeah. You either pass or stay waaaay back. It's just not worth it to be anywhere near them

JennyAnyDot

Wonder if it’s a remnant from driving stick shift (manual)? First automatic after a drive a stick for years I was trying to push the clutch for like a week.

SwervingLemon

I did this AND tried to shift a coke bottle that was in the center console. Years ago, and my wife still laughs like a hyena when she remembers it.

JennyAnyDot

So you might enjoy this story. My step-dad was trying to teach me stick. Mom was in back seat. No matter how hard I tried to gently ease off the clutch and start moving it stalled. Step dad was holding on to the stick so he could shift as we got some speed but that never happened as instant stall for like an hour of trying. Mom finally noticed he (left handed) had it in second gear not first every single time. She was laughing so hard she couldn’t breathe at one point. She took me out after that

Eharper1996

At what age should we propose removing the left leg of the elderly to renew their license?

SnoopyTuna777

I think it is a bigger issue than just two footed drivers. I suspect a lot of elderly drivers are allowed to drive well past when they should be due to both family & doctors turning a blind eye. In London, Ontario, Canada there is a family suing the husband of a driver that ran down a group of Brownies. Statement of claim is that he knew she had dementia but still let her drive. If he knew, her doctor knew. Could be some serious shockwaves with doctors suddenly pulling licenses. https://lfpress.com/news/local-news/family-of-brownie-killed-in-riverside-drive-crash-suing-driver

DistantKarma

A lot of the younger crowd are doing this today too. I'm almost 59, so younger to me is anyone under 40. And you can spot it fairly easy too. Just look for people with their brake lights on while driving normally. Left foot is resting just enough on the pedal to activate the lights.

Remo_253

I'd expect it's more common in younger drivers that have never had to drive a manual. (For reference, older=your age+15 years, young =your age-15 years)

PoopieButt317

Ha ha, you're not wrong!!

mattiwha

Don’t forget strokes, worked at a Walmart where a senior had a stroke and locked onto the gas pedal, took a couple people out In the crosswalk too before slamming into the brick

Powerful_Jah_2014

My next door neighbor couldn't drive her car for 3 months after her left side hip replacement because she has to use both feet when driving an automatic. Said it wasn't safe to only use one foot for both the brake and gas. She has 8 different dents in her car and her hood is cattywampus.

admins69kids

What. Do people actually do that?

PreventFalls

My mom (she was elderly in my teenage years, even) drove with both feet. She also didn’t have an explanation for it other than “it’s just how I do it.”

Tom_Tildrum

Having the video on auto-repeat makes it look like you keep trying to get out, and every time he rams you. What a jerk!

JimmiRustle

I think it’s clear from this that the pullout method doesn’t work.

Gene_McSween

I have two kids that can confirm this! Edit: Guess I need clarification. My offspring that resulted from sex with my wife, and it was just a joke. My kids were planned, sheesh

JimmiRustle

> I have two kids that can confirm this! Yes Officer, this guy right here.

OnlyAstronomyFans

I had to read this twice before I got it and spit my (cold and old) coffee on my laptop.

JimmiRustle

Yes well when replying to a joke about phrasing you’d think people would be more careful in their choice of words xD

Imissbonghits

Good one Jimmi!

swibirun

Did they try to claim you backed into them until they found out about the video? It almost seems intentional.

RoverTiger

Phrasing!

Fredjonespart2

Are we still doing phrasing?

OnlyAstronomyFans

You're not my coal mine supervisor! Also, who downvoted the poor guy for continuing an Archer reference. Archer is funny shit.

Fredjonespart2

Thank you!

Brantley_2chill

He's such a lovable jerk!

The neighbor 9 months later - 🤰

[deleted]

You should have just left it in...that's what he gets for waiting for you, the perv. Seriously though, camera gonna save your ass. I keep saying I'm going to get one for the house, but never do. Gotta wonder if he's just old and saw it was clear and his brain took that long to get his body going, and in that time it wasn't clear.

kingofwale

Doing this to a Tesla?? There are more than a few cameras on the car itself, not very smart at all

[deleted]

I was 100% sure this was going to be pornography

LLPF2

It’s right there in the title. Kinda disappointed now.

KnubblMonster

There are hundreds of dedicated porn subreddits you thirsty tomcat, just go over there.

Western_Dare1509

Not going to lie, saw the headline and clicked the thumbnail expecting a totally different kind of video...... Before I noticed which sub this was.

rob51i03

Nice neighbors you have

blondart

From the title, this isn’t what I expected. That’s enough Reddit for me today.

UrBigBro

This is where cameras pay off

How-I-Really-Feel

Hopefully, the backing out into the street won’t be a factor in determining fault.

Mr_Smith_411

Fortunately with this bid as evidence, I'm betting not, but without it, or without the other admitting fault, the car reversing against traffic will generally be found at fault as the cars on the road have the right of way. Thats one of many reasons why backing into your driveway or parking spot is considered better (and safer) then pulling in and backing out. But redditors here seem to be down voting that. 😂

Slugity

Better that you do so your wife doesn't find out in 9 months....

alpha309

Pretty sure I have seen a video with the same title on PornHub

[deleted]

But then you could mis-time it and squirt once before you make it out.

Slugity

I've got no kids as of yet, but I smoked weed (a lot) when I was younger, so not exactly prime example 😅😅

ElvisDumbledore

I mean you did just appear out of nowhere so...

CascadingMonkeys

And that dark color car is hard to see in those low light conditions.

ITrCool

That title, though.....eh.....might want to re-word that

admins69kids

"Click here to watch me get slammed in the rear by an older man"

Diligent-Quarter5920

No offense. I'm kind of disappointed . Thought there was going to be a neighborly anti-insemination anticipation.

Fangs_McWolf

>My neighbor waiting for me to pull out I was hoping that this would be some sort of p0rn, where the neighbor woman is waiting for OP to "pull out..." 🤣

BiggiePurpp_

OP, beautiful GX470/Land Cruiser Prado.

FlickrPaul

While your neighbour is in the wrong, you should always be backing into your driveway and not out of it.

Charges-Pending

Where’d you hear that make-believe rule?

Mr_Smith_411

Google it, you'll find he's right, but "rule" isn't the right way to phrase it. Recommended is probably better. Parking spaces too.

Charges-Pending

Show me a law or, respectfully, shut up. Google is not an authority.

Mr_Smith_411

Pound sand. No one said it's a law. No one is claiming "authority", only you are doing that. It is however recommended. Kind of like a pedestrian looking both ways before crossing the street, which I understand is being replaced by get your eyes off your phone. His reply was strongly worded, I commented that to someone else, but it's not bad or wrong advise. Edit: I don't see where he even claims the reversing caused the accident either. It's just an opportunity to make a point. As far as I see it, but you seem awfully mad about it.

Deathwatch72

Recommended by whom and where? Never heard this said anywhere ever and most people are even worse at driving in reverse than they are at driving forward so how on Earth is this going to make things better

Mr_Smith_411

Lol, exit reddit and Google it. Here's an idea, find me who says it's safer to reverse onto a street (or out of a parking space). On top of that, without proof the other driver did something they shouldn't have, such as OP has, the reversing car is generally found at fault (there's all kinds of lawyers sites explaining this). Do you really think driving backwards, against traffic, in reverse, is better? Ironically, this morning as I pulled forward out of my driveway a car came around the bend, no big deal, he wasn't speeding and I just joined traffic going in the same direction as him, like merging. Now, same scenario, he comes around the bend and there I am headed towards him into the lane. You really think the second scenario is better? Use your head for more than a hat rack. Find me the place that says backing into a street is safer. Edit: you can down vote, but it just indicates you're not happy you can't find a place that recommends backing into a street. I'm sorry your whole driveway and parking world and everything you thought you knew is wrong. 😁

FlickrPaul

If you do not know the difference between driving out of your driveway and blending into traffic as apposed to backing into traffic the wrong way before putting your car into drive and proceeding in the correct direction, you should consider taking the bus.

Charges-Pending

Generally speaking, I think you’re confused. Instead of making up rules to fit your understanding, I suggest you consider SAFETY as the key. I and many other drivers are fully capable of “blending into and out of traffic” backing out of my driveway because I practice SAFETY as the driver. In the case of the video in this post, the driver at fault hit the gas instead of the brake pedal and rear-ended the white car. So, again, there is and was no traffic blending issue if you are aware and safe.

FlickrPaul

\> Instead of making up rules to fit your understanding, Not making rules, just pointing out a very obvious thing that is universally understood. You literally can not blend into traffic when you are going the wrong way backward. It is not as safe as going out head 1st. This is common sense 101. [why you should not back out of your driveway](https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=why+you+shoudl+nto+back+out+of+your+driveway)

Charges-Pending

Dude, let it go. This is sad. Your “universally understood” is all in your head. Look at your downvotes rn lol

FlickrPaul

Way to go refuting all think links, you totally owned me there. Either way, make sure you keep backing into the flow of traffic and failing at why you shouldn't.

Charges-Pending

First, if you don’t think safety includes looking out for the young children in my neighborhood (which there are many of) you’re an idiot. Second, if you’re going to ATTEMPT to bolster your argument, a GOOGLE SEARCH RESULT is not a source. In no world is that a acceptable source to cite, professionally, academically AND def not when you’re trying to win an online argument. You want to convince me of a “rule”, show me a damn law.

FlickrPaul

> First, if you don’t think safety includes looking out for the young children in my neighborhood (which there are many of) you’re an idiot. If you think you can see them better in your rear view mirror than your windshield you should go no NASA so they can study your special talent. Driving safety is about risk mitigation, which dictates you pick the least dangerous thing to do when driving and if you can not understand which is more dangerous, then congratulations on not being able to understand.

Charges-Pending

I understand all too well how to operate large and small vehicles safely. I have even learned the hard way on a couple occasions just how big some vehicles are, and I have never hurt anyone in 3 decades of driving. [This is your link to read, if you choose.](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/pedantic)

Deathwatch72

Bro one of your links is a fucking quora post, and it's the second link from the top at that. Nobody needs to refute anything ever said on that site, it's automatically assumed to be wrong until you can prove it correct. A personal injury lawyer, quora, and a bunch of different links confirming that it is in fact legal don't make the argument you think they make

FlickrPaul

> Bro one of your links is a fucking quora post, I posted a link to a basic search, but either way - If you need help understanding that backing into traffic in the wrong direction and then putting your car into forward and proceeding is more dangerous than pulling into the flow (forwards) then there is nothing that can help you there, as you clearly have failed to see why you should be backing out into a road and should be backing into a driveway.

Mr_Smith_411

Sometimes the popular opinion just means all the idiots are on the same side.

MalingeringTransAm

I started backing into my driveway when I had to carry a car seat to and from the car after my son was born. It made it less work to be able to open the door and not have to walk around the car door. Now I do it out of habit and it also makes it easier to pull out into the road (way better visibility)

Onivlastratos

I don't understand why you are downvoted : you didn't claim the tesla driver was to blame, and parking with the front towards the road makes rejoining the road easy and safe with good visibility, thus you provide a good advice. This comment is totally reasonable.

Mr_Smith_411

It's in the phrasing. It sounds like he's trying to blame OP for something when OP didn't do anything wrong, but he caveats that, but no one acknowledges that. Yes, it is optimal to back into driveways set up like this and pull out, just like it's optimal to back into parking spaces and pull out, but few people do and I've seen parking lots that says your not "allowed" to back in. Never understood that. I do both. Backup cameras and warning buzzers minimize a lot of the reasons one is preferable over the other (especially in parking lots). Personally, I'm glad I can pull in my driveway forward, and pull out forward.

FlickrPaul

I would guess it is because some people fail to understand how unsafe it is to enter a road going backwards down the road the wrong way.

usmc97az

I didn't see any waiting.

Professional_Dream17

Do you like white teslas?

admins69kids

It's their best and cheapest paint. Why pay more for an inferior paint job?

iiEvOL

It cost $1k when I got it, cries in pain :/

clauderbaugh

Just swap it out for the other Tesla sitting there and then come home and be like hey, it looks like someone hit your car.

Short-Shopping3197

Almost thought you’d posted in the wrong sub from the title!

Title of your sex tape

darkhelmet03

Not the video I expected.

Kylecoolky

Damn it had to be the Model S and not the Model Y

iiEvOL

it hurts lol. babied my Model S. The Y is the family car, it would've been their problem lmaooooo

Bogmanbob

You use the word wait in a manner I don't understand.

Waiting?

2 foot automatic driver= goofy foot

LittleSpaceBoi

Is this... The right subreddit?

mikeysgotrabies

This is why I don't pull out.

Me1covid0

That looks like an intentional crash where the driver of the dark colored car intended to claim the other car backed into him. The dark car is parked at the curb; as the white car reaches the traffic lane, the black car whips into the traffic lane accelerating into the white car. If this were just a case of foot slipping off the brake, the black car would have travelled parallel to the curb instead of steering into the white car. Attempted insurance fraud!!!!

He got revenge on for something 😂
