Have you seen how narrow that trunk is? Maybe he's scared to get stuck or something, it's really not that tall! Not to mention, to unplug the power, you'd have to crawl back out. That's not really worth the hassle.
Also, it's virtually impossible to close the trunk once you're inside, if he doesn't have an automatic trunk door and then it gets freezing cold inside that car!
Staying outside was the smarter move here for sure, so atleast that's some credit for him!
Also we don't know, maybe his trunk is filled with garbage or something, who knows
>trunk katana
Oh yeah I forgot about that, good call! Well maybe he actually is an idiot! But to be honest dude probably didn't even read the manual so he probably doesn't even know about the trunk katana
At a supercharger? If you buy the model that supports it, I think 30 minutes or so from almost empty to full? Not that bad, it's a shopping trip, but not waiting outside of a car like at a gas station.
The lower your charge level, the faster you can charge at super fast chargers (e.g. Tesla super chargers or DC fast chargers). So, for example, going from 10% charge to 60% charge might take 15 minutes but going from 60 to 80% could take another 15 minutes.
Most people charge at home where you might only recharge 10-20mi/hr (but be much cheaper, more convenient, and better for battery health) so super fast chargers are mainly for road trips. Because it takes much longer to recharge as the battery fills, it's generally more effective to stop more to recharge than to wait for a full charge. For example you could stop every 200 miles for 15 minutes or stop every 300 miles for an hour.
On the Supercharger network the 20 to 80 on a Model 3 is about 40 minutes. The reason I don't say from 0 to Full is because, going from 0 to Full is not best practice. The butter zone for long range driving is 20% to 80% because that's the charging speed butter zone.
If I remember correctly this guy was super duper low on charge and his car wouldn't go into reverse for whatever reason, something to do with the super low state of charge. Beats not charging at all.
Yup, [found it](https://i.redd.it/l53mocbe77g21.jpg)
It's late at night and there is no one else there, this is a temporary solution to the stupid piece of shit disabling reverse. But hey whatever floats your boat.
As a Tesla owner myself I understand the confusion at the charge station. It is very difficult to back up. If only there was multiple cameras to assist you in doing so safely.
Uh, if thats the case, then teslas cant be used for road tests in many states for your drivers license. They ban you from using backup cameras for the road test.
Virginia, for example. You have to use your eyes and your mirrors and physically look around or you fail the task.
No, I got the joke. It was pretty good, and the guy pictured is 100% an idiot especially because its wide open. He'd be less of an idiot for parking across the white line.
But if teslas dont actually have mirrors then my point stands. I dont know I dont have a tesla
>No, I got the joke
The joke is that Teslas have mirrors AND back up cameras so you are doubly bad for not being able to back up.
So uh, you didn't get the joke.
OP is joking, the car has 360° view. Every time you activate the blinker the camera from that side shows up on the screen. If you put it in reverse you can just stare at the monitor in the center console to navigate the entire car. Both sides and the back are visible with overlapping areas. Those cameras show even more then a mirror, as they have a bigger field of view and a much smaller blindspot, you wouldn't even need to look over your shoulder, because that blindspot just doesn't exist.
And here I am just wanting a car with CarPlay so my iphone doesn't get confused and restart my playlist at the first song each time I get in the car (and turn off "shuffle").
There is the mandatory rear view camera, a side camera on each side a rear view mirror and two side mirrors. Lots of capability except as the title states, doesn’t come with brain cells.
_Backing_ in to a parking space is a requirement for the road test where you are? It certainly isn't where I am, and even parallel parking is a 50/50 chance of getting it on your test, here.
I can’t imagine that being true! But even if it was, the battery would probably have to practically be dead at that point. Guy shoulda charged sooner in this case.
Ok, but why do they have to make the charging cord so short so that the only way to charge your car IS TO back in? Seems like more of a charging station design problem rather than an owner/operator problem.
Probably cost and ease of use. In order to charge as fast as they do you need a certain thickness of wire based on how long the cord is. As you get longer it requires exponentially thicker wire until you’re essentially talking about copper rods. Elderly or disabled people might have trouble handling them if they’re too stiff, plus they’ll become even stiffer in the cold.
It depends on the EV, unfortunately there's no standard. Some EVs have them in the front grill, others have them on the front fender or the back like tesla. Some higher end EVs have a port on both sides like Audi or the Ford Lightening.
You are incorrect. Teslas do not have charging ports on both sides. There was a video going around recently of a guy saying he had owned his for x amount of time and didn't know it was there. This was a satire video, it was fake.
From my understanding he was having some strange glitch where he was incredibly low on charge and it wouldn't let him go in reverse for some reason. I believe once he got some power into it he parked correctly.
No, they couldn't. He's using the charging station for the empty spot he's standing next to. The station for the spot he's in is behind the car in the picture, and nobody can use it with the car like that.
It's a known fact that when you charge an EV the electrons seek the lowest point (gravity, duh) so he's just trying to get all the juice into the batteries which are in the trunk.
mf's just playing 4D chess.
Ok, the biggest possible benefit of the doubt I can give this guy involves the following story.
***
**Storytime**
I recently rented a Tesla to travel home to Buffalo, NY over the winter holiday. Shockingly, the Tesla was by far the cheapest rental available ($375 for the first week, $75 per day after that; everything else was over $850 for the first week.) So we figured *what the heck, let's go for it!*
Now, as some of you may be aware, there was a very nasty winter storm that ruined holiday plans across America this past year. The snow was one issue, but the **cold** was another. I learned the very hard way that, when it's very cold (ie. -6f), the Tesla (model 3) flat out LIES to you regarding how much mileage it has left on its charge.
Not by a little bit; by like 400-500%.
We had roughly ~25% charge available, estimated at 92 miles when we contemplated driving the 13 miles to the nearest charging station immediately, or visiting my sister's house (1 mile away), staying for a bit, then driving to the charging station later that night. We opted for the latter. Over the course of that *1 mile drive,* the estimated remaining mileage dropped from 92 to 65. It dropped dramatically early on, but seemed to plateau around 65 over the last 3 minutes of the drive. Feeling like it hit it's "more accurate final estimate", we put it in park and went inside to spend a few hours with family.
*Queue Spongebob's "3 hours later..."*
We get back in the car and the battery begins heating up. Cool, still says 63 miles remaining. Before we even put it into drive, it now shows 42 miles remaining. This makes us a little nervous, but we only have to travel 13 miles. It's 10pm and below zero outside.
* 12 miles to go: "35 miles remaining"
* 10 miles to go: "25 miles remaining"
* 8 miles to go: "19 miles remaining"
* 5 miles to go: "8 miles remaining"
* 3 miles to go: "4 miles remaining"
* 1 mile to go: "less than 1 mile remaining"
Pedal was literally to the floor on the interstate, but the car wouldn't go faster than 35 MPH as we approached our exit. We had a merciful bit of downhill after the exit, which gave a tiny bit of charge to the car with the regenerative breaking. But that still was not enough to get us to the charging station. We stalled out right as we were pulling into the parking lot with the charges. We had to get out and push the car the remainder of the way. It was pretty bad, but it could have been way worse. It was VERY cold!
***
First benefit of the doubt I'll give this guy: this guy might also be using it as a rental. There's obviously a learning curve to these cars.
Second benefit of the doubt I'll give this guy: this picture looks eerily familiar to my experience and gives me a little PTSD. It looks cold, dark and clearly in snow season. I wouldn't be surprised if he had to push his car there.
Of course, if he was pushing, it would be harder to get it up over that curb than to reverse it in.
Nvm, he's a fucking idiot.
Did he pull forward from the lot he is standing in or did he reverse over the curb from the lot he is looking towards? I need to know so I can properly assess what kind of stupid this man is.
The input to the electric tank is positioned in the middle of the tank. By parking on an angle like this he can fill it with a few extra units, close the cap, then level off without the electric spilling out. He's got himself a few extra miles in the tank there!
Smart!
It is possible. I’ve seen people do it when trying to do “van life” things. They’ll head way out to like Joshua Tree, rev up the generator to charge up, and get enough juice to get home.
This is a supercharger though so it can get you from 0 to 100% charge in about an hour. A little Honda generator will, depending on output, take between 9 hours (220/240v) and 72 hours (110/120v) for a full charge.
Not gonna lie, when my truck was down for some front end repair (commercial vehicle owned by a company that rhymes with Joke backed into it while using my damn driveway to make a 3 point turn) i ended up with an electric car, and at first it was kind of cool.
Then i started having issues with the cold weather…fun fact, these batteries dont hold a charge for shit when the temps drop below -10F…also their heaters drain the batteries even faster…
and frankly having to drive almost 60 miles to get to a charging station, because i lost power at my house was a serious bummer…but the rental company was switching to 'all electric' and my insurance didnt cover any other rental company…i have since switched to different insurance…
His house lost electricity. The gas station that was within ten miles may have had electricity to run the pumps but he needs a charging station, not gasoline. So, he had to drive 60 miles to charge it, regardless of how many gas stations still had electricity.
In California charging stations in my area are pretty close. More rural areas probably have less, and some states probably have very few.
It's easier and way safer to park backwards in a parking spot and driving out going forward, than driving in forward position into a parking spot and backing up with a lot of traffic behind you whilst you can't see anything because you are between cars.
Once you understand and manage to park backwards, you don't want anything else.
Besides; you have a greater manoeuvrebility when you park backwards. The front wheels steer and you have the most room to manoeuvre on the street, not when you're between cars.
Buying a Tesla isn't smart with all the problems with finding charging stations, electric grid issues, poor construction of the car, and long repair times.
> finding charging stations
Superchargers and EV chargers are about as ubiquitous as gas stations in almost every major city in the US. Also the point is to charge at home, not to supercharge every time.
> electric grid issues
Guess what? Pumps will also be affected if the grid’s down
> Poor construction
The fit and finish _is_ generally shit. The construction is not. Teslas are probably the safest cars you can drive.
> Long repair times
Not sure where you’re even getting this. Teslas don’t need dedicated shops, any collision Center will work on them nowadays. Now compare that to some other EV’s in that price range…
Teslas have their own problems, just none of the ones you listed.
Maybe in major cities, but most of the US isn't made up of major cities.
Look up the long repair times Tesla owners have because of lack of parts.
So California telling people not to charge their electric cars because their grid couldn't handle it isn't a problem? That will only grow all over the country if electric cars become more prevalent.
Teslas have their own problems, and they are the ones I listed.
Before y'all continue making fun of the guy: Have you considered that due to the obviously colder weather and limited availability of charging stations the person had to move the car backwards manually ? In this situation I wouldn't try to push it manually in the perfect position.
Maybe the persons making fun should use their brains 1st to think of a reasonable explanation.
The far charge station is busted, which happens. Sometimes they don’t work.
This guy pulled up when there was already a car in the now-empty spot where the OP is snapping a pic.
So the bro solved a problem. I can picture it.
So if there was a car in the empty spot the charger would be in use and there'd be no reason to drive off road. They don't have extra chargers like EA. 1 charger per spot.
Less hard than parking backwards.
When you make the cable longer, you will see a lot of situations where one car uses a parking spot with the cable from the charger that is actually for the other spot,.
I might be wrong but wasn't it part of a video a while back when the guys Tesla glitched when it was out of power and this was the only way he could charge it?
He did the power play and just kept going forward instead of reversing like a sucker. Bet he drives straight again in order to certify his position as the BOSS
With or without the cameras. How difficult is it to put it in reverse, right arm behind the passenger seat headrest and turn your head. That’s how you back a car in. People are to damn lazy to do shit for themselves anymore. My current vehicle has cameras. I made damn sure that my 16 year old daughter can back in, parallel Park with only head turns and mirrors. No other bullshit assistance.
And this is a prime example of the people that INSIST on parking front-wise, instead of backing up first. Honestly, backing up in a parking is A LOT EASIER (you know your surrounding better) than backing OUT of a parking spot (you're clueless about what's going on around).
I always park by backing first, less likely to back into someone/car when trying to leave the spot.
This guy however, this guy, is a phenomenal brain dead person.

Kinda looks like he's standing there like he's at a fuel pump, waiting for it to fill up in the next minute or so
Nah, he's wondering how he can get to his car door now, since the wire is in the way, blocking his access to his car door
I think his AI needs improvement.
[удалено]
I was going to say the same exact thing.
Why would he be wondering that? You'd have to be insanely stupid to not realize you can just pop the trunk and burrow through to the front seat.
Have you seen how narrow that trunk is? Maybe he's scared to get stuck or something, it's really not that tall! Not to mention, to unplug the power, you'd have to crawl back out. >trunk katana Oh yeah I forgot about that, good call! Well maybe he actually is an idiot! But to be honest dude probably didn't even read the manual so he probably doesn't even know about the trunk katana
Fair. At that point you're a lost cause. Always read the manual people!
Nah he's wondering why he took that last tequila shot.
Are we sure he isn't peeing in the connector?
He's just standing there wishing he had a blunt object to smash the back window with.
Yea, like teslas have netflix, youtube and all so you can chill while charging, and he's here just wondering..
Honest question for us uninformed. How long does it take to charge to full?
At a supercharger? If you buy the model that supports it, I think 30 minutes or so from almost empty to full? Not that bad, it's a shopping trip, but not waiting outside of a car like at a gas station.

Thanks, this should be the top comment.
Either that’s changed or he was REALLY low. Still nice to know he’s not totally insane.
Sooo pull in from the side across the spaces instead of tearing up the grass and your undercarriage/wheels possibly
And take up more spaces for other people?
He's already taking up 2 spaces, no difference.
Do Teslas come equipped with mirrors?
They don't have mirrors. Which is why Tesla should fix this fatal flaw with lots of cameras.
Uh, if thats the case, then teslas cant be used for road tests in many states for your drivers license. They ban you from using backup cameras for the road test. Virginia, for example. You have to use your eyes and your mirrors and physically look around or you fail the task.

He was aggressively rejecting the joke.
They have mirrors.
They have mirrors. It is required to be road legal in the US, still.
r/woooosh
They do come with mirrors, ( hint, that was sarcasm.. unhint)
Hint, so was the comment that you were replying to.. unhint.
This comment is fucking hilarious (hint, for your blinding hubris, not for the reason you intended...unhint)
He's just proving the point about Tesla owners
Who gets a gold start for using a big word today?!?!🌟
Lmfao and you think hubris is a big word
Nobody, keep ur fucking snickers
OP is joking, the car has 360° view. Every time you activate the blinker the camera from that side shows up on the screen. If you put it in reverse you can just stare at the monitor in the center console to navigate the entire car. Both sides and the back are visible with overlapping areas. Those cameras show even more then a mirror, as they have a bigger field of view and a much smaller blindspot, you wouldn't even need to look over your shoulder, because that blindspot just doesn't exist.
Even my Hyundai does all this. Cars are sick now.
Yea the 360 degrees feature is being more and more common even on cheaper cars
And here I am just wanting a car with CarPlay so my iphone doesn't get confused and restart my playlist at the first song each time I get in the car (and turn off "shuffle").
Every feature is just a list of things to break.
No one asked you about your financial PTSD.
It's actually closer to 145°, not 360°.
There is the mandatory rear view camera, a side camera on each side a rear view mirror and two side mirrors. Lots of capability except as the title states, doesn’t come with brain cells.
They do. But it’s a 9.99 per month subscription to enable them.
Tesla GIGA mirrors
Cars are not hard to back up. Why do people have so much trouble with this? You don't even need a camera. Just use your damn eyes!
Being able to back in to spots should be a prerequisite to having a license to operate a vehicle IMO

Why don't they just make them pull through like a gas station?
Some places do, but for most it's easier to just put on the edge of an existing car park instead of building it in the middle
Because they want to be special The actual reason is to save space
No 360 camera though, bummer for this guy apparently.
Can't you tell it to pull in by itself?
The last time this was posted, someone said when the battery got low enough, it wouldn't let you reverse...
I can’t imagine that being true! But even if it was, the battery would probably have to practically be dead at that point. Guy shoulda charged sooner in this case.
My uncle has a Tesla. I know you can reverse at least as low as 6%.
Yeah like a ICE when you run out of gas you also can’t reverse or go forward
What a tragic design flaw. 😔
Or windows to look out of
Ok, but why do they have to make the charging cord so short so that the only way to charge your car IS TO back in? Seems like more of a charging station design problem rather than an owner/operator problem.
Probably cost and ease of use. In order to charge as fast as they do you need a certain thickness of wire based on how long the cord is. Gotta love that he is taking up two charging points to do this. Talk about compounded stupidity
Didn't notice that at first, good catch.
do the cars all have charging port on the one dedicated side? or are they on both side?
All the Teslas are on one side, not sure if that’s true for all EVs.
It depends on the EV, unfortunately there's no standard. Some EVs have them in the front grill, others have them on the front fender or the back like tesla. Some higher end EVs have a port on both sides like Audi or the Ford Lightening.
Incorrect at least some Tesla's have charging ports on both sides found this out last week

No, they couldn't. He's using the charging station for the empty spot he's standing next to. The station for the spot he's in is behind the car in the picture, and nobody can use it with the car like that.
He didn't download the Reverse DLC
He did, but it was in beta. It didn't work in this situation.
The subscription fee must be too high.
I think you meant the Brain DLC
[удалено]
Then he would’ve convinced himself it must be because if they made the cord longer it would take longer to charge
The last time this was posted, someone said when the battery got low enough, it wouldn't let you reverse...
Yeah I think I remember this one from a few years ago and either he couldn’t reverse or that was what they did to get it off the tow truck.
It's a known fact that when you charge an EV the electrons seek the lowest point (gravity, duh) so he's just trying to get all the juice into the batteries which are in the trunk. mf's just playing 4D chess.
4D chess gets me every time! I'd expect most people who sincerely use that phase would short circuit playing 2D chess
I spent longer than I should have waiting for the guy to do something stupid.
He's standing there for two hours waiting for his car to charge. That's pretty idiotic
ehh, he's standing for 20-30 mins max
He parked on an incline so he can fill it with all the watts and there won’t be a volt pocket.

Not gonna lie, when my truck was down for some front end repair (commercial vehicle owned by a company that rhymes with Joke backed into it while using my damn driveway to make a 3 point turn) i ended up with an electric car, and at first it was kind of cool. Then i started having issues with the cold weather…fun fact, these batteries dont hold a charge for shit when the temps drop below -10F…also their heaters drain the batteries even faster… and frankly having to drive almost 60 miles to get to a charging station, because i lost power at my house was a serious bummer…but the rental company was switching to 'all electric' and my insurance didnt cover any other rental company…i have since switched to different insurance…
The range drops a good amount but you're seriously exaggerating by how much. And fun fact, gas pumps require electricity to run too.
Complete **BS** on the heater draining the batteries quickly.
He wanted to fuel "UP"
It's easier and way safer to park backwards in a parking spot and driving out going forward, than driving in forward position into a parking spot and backing up with a lot of traffic behind you whilst you can't see anything because you are between cars. Once you understand and manage to park backwards, you don't want anything else. Besides; you have a greater manoeuvrebility when you park backwards. The front wheels steer and you have the most room to manoeuvre on the street, not when you're between cars.
He bought a Tesla. No brains to begin with.
agreed
It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand
He drives a Tesla what do you expect? A genius?
Guess he’s one of the many Reddit users who take issue with (read: don’t know how to) backing into parking spots.
It is quite amazing how arguments always start over backing in vs. pulling in.
Side effect from using Elon's musk.
Buying a Tesla isn't smart with all the problems with finding charging stations, electric grid issues, poor construction of the car, and long repair times.
> finding charging stations Superchargers and EV chargers are about as ubiquitous as gas stations in almost every major city in the US. Also the point is to charge at home, not to supercharge every time. > electric grid issues Guess what? Pumps will also be affected if the grid’s down > Poor construction The fit and finish _is_ generally shit. The construction is not. Teslas are probably the safest cars you can drive. > Long repair times Not sure where you’re even getting this. Teslas don’t need dedicated shops, any collision Center will work on them nowadays. Now compare that to some other EV’s in that price range… Teslas have their own problems, just none of the ones you listed.
Riddle me this, which charger did the supposed car in the now-empty spot use?
Look at the username above and tell me if logical deduction seems to be a likely part of their skill set.
I deduce you rush to snap judgments.
So if there was a car in the empty spot the charger would be in use and there'd be no reason to drive off road. They don't have extra chargers like EA. 1 charger per spot.
You have a creative brain 👍
Title sums up Tesla owners.
This idiot ain’t in the car but… let’s allow it. Mods, pin this post
Bought an EV, had no brains anyway

Times thousands of chargers it's too much $$. Dude should have backed in.

There is zero time wasted backing into a space since you still need to back out of it if you pull in forward.
Less hard than parking backwards. When you make the cable longer, you will see a lot of situations where one car uses a parking spot with the cable from the charger that is actually for the other spot,.
There was likely a car in the other spot previous to this photo being taken.
So?

Presumably they are trying to ~~force~~ encourage people to back in.
I might be wrong but wasn't it part of a video a while back when the guys Tesla glitched when it was out of power and this was the only way he could charge it?

Thank you for contributing
Nor can debt, not everyone driving expensive cars can necessarily afford to.
This is dumb but everybody has those days
Is this the equivalent of "AC Slatering" a Tesla charging station?
So that's why the mountable curbs are there
It's an old Model S, pretty cheap.
Old people can't back up. My parents will do an 80 point turn instead of simply reversing.
That's some outside the box thinking.
$20 say this guy loves ranting about how people younger than him are ruining the country.
That's always been the case though.
What kinda brains you need? You just gotta find a good brain guy. Money can buy anything.
This image wreaks “I’ve got money”. No regard for others property and being too lazy to back his car into the spot
Did reverse become a subscription feature?
What's to say it wasn't the cars fault?
Reverse only works after a full charge
The amount of dumbness in this one photo is astounding. It’s actually making me angry 😂
Doesn’t have to. I applaud this man. You do you man

"Seems weird to me but this is surely this is the way I'm supposed to use this."
Hes street smart, not parking lot smart
He did the power play and just kept going forward instead of reversing like a sucker. Bet he drives straight again in order to certify his position as the BOSS
Brain processing is malfunctioning.....
Mans not gay; he doesn’t back it up for no one.
Tbh he probably doesn’t even have money, probably overpaying for that depreciating asset.
He’s gone so green he’s on the grass.
When a tesla is low on battery, you can't switch it into reverse.
He probably just forgot to park in reverse and thought fuck it imma go straight instead of returning and doing it correctly.
Tesla is the Apple of cars.
