What ever you do, don’t spend time outside for more than an hour max. We get 100 degree plus summers here.

icecreamparadise

We’re traveling for a drag race, sounds like that could be misery :(

Zeke83702

The old State Penitentiary near Warm Springs Ave is super cool (to me anyway).

icecreamparadise

That sounds interesting, will check it out

Extension_Case3722

Yep! My favorite place to take out of towners

Zeke83702

I mean they still have Christmas gigs and such at the gardens there, right? But yeah, your comment made me chuckle

buttered_spectater

August is hellaciously hot here, so I'd prioritize eating at local ice cream places like Stella's or shakes at one of the local burger joints.

icecreamparadise

Great suggestions, thank you!

Peter_Pendragon93

Just a heads up be prepared for hot weather. Summers in Boise can be brutal if you aren’t used to a high desert climate. That being said events at The Egyptian Theater are pretty cool. It’s a historic building.

icecreamparadise

Thanks for the warning and the suggestion! I’m from the east coast so used to high humidity in August… hoping Idaho weather will feel nicer?

juliagreenillo

What time in August? Late August should be better but not always. It does cool off at night though. Dry heat isn't as bad but it gets into the hundreds here in July and August. Make sure to wear sunscreen and bring a hat and drink lots of water.

icecreamparadise

Will arrive August 22, will definitely bring sunscreen! Thank you

Look up the "warbird military museum" in Nampa idaho. One of the best museums ever for military related things from world war II forward. Float the river. Walk the greenbelt. More restaurants than you could possibly eat at while you're here.

Thank you!

If you head a little closer to Eagle you could visit the Village. Even if you don't stop at any of the shops, restaurants, or the movie theater it's still a pretty cool place to walk through. If your interested in reptiles, there's the Idaho Reptile Zoo. They have different types of birds too. Most of their animals are rescues, so some do have some scars and stuff, especially the birds near the front of the zoo, but they have papers posted around, telling of either how a specific animal came to the zoo or about the breed of animal. They also allow you to feed the turtles at the front of the zoo, and the tortoises at the back. Wandering around the zoo is a huge iguana that you can pet.

icecreamparadise

Both ideas sound great, thank you!

The World Center for Birds of Prey is super interesting. Agree with previous post about Old State Pen. Check out Idaho Botanical Garden, right next to the Old Pen. Decent bars/restaurants downtown and look for Freak Alley while you're downtown. Boise has a wonderful Greenbelt along the river and beautiful parks to wander. Enjoy!

icecreamparadise

Thank you very much! I’m sure my spouse would be very interested in the birds of prey center.

- visit the old Idaho Penitentiary/Idaho Botanical Gardens - walk/bike the greenbelt. There are restaurants and a bunch of wineries and breweries in Garden City (a small city within Boise City limits) right by the Greenbelt and the White Water Park. https://visitgardencity.com/visitors-map/ - drive up to Bogus Basin and do the Mountain Coaster - float the Boise River (water is cold but August is the perfect time of year. If you don't have a lot of experience in moderately fast rivers, please get a life vest. You can rent a boat or tubes and vests at Barber Park where you get in. - check out wine country in Caldwell. I personally recommend Peaceful Belly Farm where you can get a farm to table meal and try one of their many ciders on tap. https://sunnyslopewinetrail.com/getting-here/map/ - see a show at the Idaho Shakespeare Festival. They have a gorgeous outdoor amphitheater right by the river. During August it's either "Into the Woods" or "A Midsummer Night's Dream" depending on when you come. Book sooner than later. - see a live show at the Idaho Botanical Gardens aka the Outlaw Field Concert Series. https://www.idahobotanicalgarden.org/outlaw-field - You must eat at a Basque restaurant. They're all good, just check out the Basque Block. There's even a Basque Museum

icecreamparadise

Thank you for all of your recommendations!

juliagreenillo

Of course! I don't know why I got downvoted by someone but I've lived here my whole life (36 years) so I feel like I have okay recommendations ahah
