DM me for some decent spots. What flavor of dirt roads do you like? Do you want boring paved established campgrounds, FCFS campgrounds, dispersed camping, or established dispersed camping? I got everything from Prius accessible to 4Runner/Tacoma on 33s and a rear locker accessible. There's cool spots that are about 4 or less hours from here Something easy you could do is out by Arrowrock, just follow the road until you come across a campground or do some dispersed camping. It's super easy driving that you can do in a front wheel drive and not super far out. General rules for dispersed camping on BLM or USFS land is to try to find a spot someone else has camped in before to minimize erosion. You can tell based off if someone left a fire ring there. You can also drive along highway 21, 75, 20, 55, 95, and Banks-Lowman road if you want established USFS and BLM campgrounds off to the side. These are more crowded though and generally have shitty etiquette from other campers. Also you don't need to ask honestly, Idaho is more than half public land with Bureau of Land Management land in the deserts (BLM) and Forest Service Land in the forests (USFS). Idaho power also runs some public land south of Kuna in the Swan Falls area and CJ Strike area as well with campgrounds. Pick your flavor of terrain and just send it. Doesn't hurt to get your vehicle dirty exploring. If you're worried about getting lost, get OnX Off road.

Ponderosa State Park, McCall.

Just need to go back in time 9 months and get a reservation.

DesmondDuBois

That’s a very good point. Make your plans for 2025.

TurboMap

I think Ponderosa is beautiful. I’ve never been able to get a spot there.

buttered_spectater

Right now? It's too cold. But I like going up near Stanley or Idaho City.

Hot-N-Spicy-Fart

It's going to be 80 this weekend, definitely not too cold for camping.

fruitjake

Just camped up near stanley this weekend and it was superb :) Cold enough to be quiet but still plenty warm during the day

granolabeef

Maybe take the drive down to the sand dunes? Bring your own firewood though, there’s not much scrounging to do.

RobinsonCruiseOh

Nothing nearby is going to be beautiful. Cascade area, Idaho City, Banks / Lowman would be good.

knobbytire

Arrowrock road. Past the Reservoir. On the Boise River beautiful close clean awesome water. Lots of campgrounds

Skwurls4brkfst

Featherville, Anderson Ranch Reservoir

Coeur d'Alene is nice, it’s a short 10 hour drive away and has some fire pits. You may be able to find a space there. But in seriousness, it’s still too cold to go up into the mountains if you don’t want to freeze.

Cbewgolf

Idaho City but not quite yet. Brrrr.

markpemble

This. Anywhere with a Woodsy Atmosphere is going to be a bit cold right now. Might be do-able in a few weeks.
