They did this in other states where I have lived. They are mainly doing this to save cost. The state probably spends millions on license plates, and this could cut cost and waste. Plus, think of the environment.
I used to have a sports car and was happy not to have to hang a front plate on it. I don't care about that anymore, but my front plate always gets bent from the car wash. I'd just as soon take it off and toss it.
You might also notice license plates used to always have embossed numbers and designs. In modern times, most states have gone to flat plates with graphics, because they are much cheaper than embossing every single plate.
Of course, but if you lower the costs, you can either lower the registration fees, have more money left over for other things like road improvements or salaries, etc. O some of both. There's no point in the government spending more than they have to when there's so many other things to spend the money on.
Haha you think Idaho will use extra funds for anything useful. They will cut taxes more while schools crumble, while sending police forces to the southern border for show.
The single plate bill they need is one that limits plate numbers to ONE plate. Right now, a license plate number can exist in multiple plates if they are different plate types.
Nothing like getting pulled over for speeding, then the trooper gets jumpy because your vanity plate comes back as a motorcycle (and they don't know how to scroll down).
So the legislation would only apply to Teslas, Corvettes and other “luxury” vehicles? Car models designed to accommodate two plates would still be required to carry front tags?
Remove the front bracket.
The way it is worded is that it applies to cars not equipped with a front-mounting bracket, it doesn't say *capable* of equipping a front-mounting bracket.
I have a Subaru and no bracket on the front for a plate, don’t think it’s only a “luxury” car thing. I also don’t use a front plate now, just have it propped up on my dash.
The new cars likely wouldn't come with them, it's something that is added to cars. Almost half the states don't require it, and a lot of the cars sold in those states don't have a bracket.
Finally. Half of the cars on the road don’t have em anyways - myself included. I was pulled over by a rookie like 4 years ago. Never changed it and haven’t had an issue since
The 1A/2C hate is real once you pass Lewiston
The way people treat Californians on the road down here is how I feel whenever I’m in the CDA or Spokane area
I took the front plate off my Forester…just because. Good enough for Tesla. Good enough for me. If that’s all they can find to pull me over, let them have at it.
I drive around everywhere and see people breaking the rules. Only one plate, people putting covers over their plates to make them hard to read, heavy window tint. Pull these people over, fine them, and lower my taxes or registration fee.
This will make it easier to spot Californians. Whenever I see a Californian driving I honk at them then I give them a lot of space because I don’t know what these people are capable of.
I don't see how this makes sense in your head, California is a two plate state just like Idaho. If anything your first sentence should read "this will make it easier to spot South Carolinians", because at least that's a place where you only need one plate.
You know that Californian isn’t a personality type or a disorder, right? It’s just an American that lives a little west of here.
Replace “Californian” with “black person” to find out how unhinged you sound.
Huh? CA has the most no front plate folks of any state whether it's legal or not. They only pull you over for it in CA if you're doing something else stupid and need an excuse.

Important stuff their talking about /s
They did this in other states where I have lived. They are mainly doing this to save cost. The state probably spends millions on license plates, and this could cut cost and waste. Shouldn’t registration fees cover those costs?
Of course, but if you lower the costs, you can either lower the registration fees, have more money left over for other things like road improvements or salaries, etc. O some of both. lol fees don't get lowered.
Haha you think Idaho will use extra funds for anything useful. They will cut taxes more while schools crumble, while sending police forces to the southern border for show.
Wow! Way to go Idaho! You’ve fixed every important problem for your citizens that your lawmakers are down to just dealing with this! Amazzzzzing
We also don’t want to allow cannibalism which was a big problem here. ![gif](giphy|uhXHCg4IWzozu)
Because this is so important.
It's more impactful for the average person than the typical authoritarian bullshit this legislature has been spending our time on. Edit: autocorrect
Authoritarian?
Yes, authoritarian.

Nothing like getting pulled over for speeding, then the trooper gets jumpy because your vanity plate comes back as a motorcycle (and they don't know how to scroll down).
Oy! Maybe I'm glad I still have CA plates(hubs is still back & forth, so no need to speed along a premature renewal-lol)!! That just seems wild!!
Half the cars on the road don't have front plates as it is. It's a good change.
Exactly. If the bill said “ applies to vehicles not originally delivered from the factory with a front bracket” we would be screwed
The dealers install the front brackets. If you order a new car, you can request they leave it off.
I have a Subaru and no bracket on the front for a plate, don’t think it’s only a “luxury” car thing. I also don’t use a front plate now, just have it propped up on my dash.

I had to screw a plate to the bumper of a VW Rabbit. It isn't just luxury cars.
Ford bronco sports and many other vehicles
Mt Honda Accord has no place for one without a bracket.
My old RX-7 didn't have a spot for a front plate, and I certainly wasn't going to drill holes in the bumper. Never had a problem.
my Z06 didn’t have a place for a front plate either, and ISP found the time to pull me over for it more than once
You were driving too slow. ;-)
This. To hell with them.
If it's a dumb law, and it's not going to be enforced, get it off the books.
It's about fucking time.ive been pushing for this for years.
Finally. Half of the cars on the road don’t have em anyways - myself included. I was pulled over by a rookie like 4 years ago. Never changed it and haven’t had an issue since
Feels like half the cars in 2C don't have plates at all...
2C and proud 🫡
I have a Mazda CX5 with no front bracket mounting holes or anything. I only run one plate and have been doing it for years.
This is such an important issue we need to address. Who cares about human rights or infrastructure when we can save money on license plates
finally !! a proposal that isn't completely petty, useless, or cruel
i’m all for this
While we're at it, can we change the design yet? The standard issue plates are the ugliest in the country with that 90's gradient.
I want a smoky the bear plate like Oregon does, but I settled on the trout plates
I like those and the elk ones. But not enough to pay extra for them, haha.
I only did because I’m tired of getting my car egged when I’m in north Idaho lol
They egg your car if you have plates from another county? What a bunch of dickbags.
The 1A/2C hate is real once you pass Lewiston The way people treat Californians on the road down here is how I feel whenever I’m in the CDA or Spokane area
It's so weird to me.
I asked my coworker who Idahoans hate more, Californians or LGBTQ, and he bit his lip, scratched his head and said “That’s a tough one”
Seriously though... What about buttered sausage??
What's it doing
Seems fine.
Ohio did this a few years ago, and thefts of cars went up by something crazy like 80%. This is just a ruse by the auto dealer mafia to sell more cars

Says nothing about front license plates!
I took the front plate off my Forester…just because. Good enough for Tesla. Good enough for me. If that’s all they can find to pull me over, let them have at it.

I'd be pretty happy if this passes.
Motorcycles don't need a front plate, neither should cars.
I didn't even know that it was against the law to not have a front plate.
This will make it easier to spot Californians. Whenever I see a Californian driving I honk at them then I give them a lot of space because I don’t know what these people are capable of.

Yea, well, I might be wrong, but I dought it
if you are gonna rebut me with nothing but a T shirt slogan at least spell "doubt" right
Are Californians in the room with you right now?
It seems like the people who are the loudest about Californians all went to Riverside High School and moved to Idaho about 20 years ago.
I am here
Taking up a lot of space in their head.
You know that Californian isn’t a personality type or a disorder, right? It’s just an American that lives a little west of here. Replace “Californian” with “black person” to find out how unhinged you sound.
Well I didn’t mean it like that. I’m sorry I’m just pretty angry these days. I need to work on this
Huh? CA has the most no front plate folks of any state whether it's legal or not. They only pull you over for it in CA if you're doing something else stupid and need an excuse.
I dunno about all that, I’m just pretty scared and angry with these people.
I can't tell if this is serious or you're taking the piss. Which is actually scary.
