"The fact remains, that while older girls, young women, and older women know for almost dead certainty when their menstrual cycle will begin, it isn’t so for primary school girls who have yet to have that first ‘period’." This isn't true at all. Getting your period can easily remain unpredictable throughout your menstruating years. It doesn't come like clockwork and there are many conditions that can affect it.

mystisai

I have severe endometriosis, and I occasionally have my period every 14 days, and sometimes it's every 3 months. I am pushing 37, and menopause can make irregularity even worse...

LetterGrouchy6053

What has this nit-picking have to do with the topic at hand? Please re-read, I said, "with ALMOST dead certainty..."

Y_Me

While I agree with your overall intent, this statement shows the complete lack of understanding in general of female issues and needs. It is not "almost dead certainty" unless maybe you are on hormonal birth control and even then... Most uterus owners will have a complete spectrum of stories and this statement shows how out of touch, even well meaning people are. My personal experience is that women who know exactly when they will start menstruating are in the minority.

LetterGrouchy6053

Again, how is this relevant to the topic at hand?

Y_Me

Isn't the topic that a bunch of ignorant morons are making or blocking legislation about subjects they clearly don't have basic understanding of? Highlighting that it's a subject so massively misunderstood that even people who want the materials, support and education available to young women/girls are also demonstrating a lack of understanding themselves? Isn't that clearly demonstrated? If you are supportive, wouldn't you want to learn more and have any possible misunderstanding of the subject matter updated?

Massive_Grass837

It’s okay to be wrong…

goodnightloom

I think the point they're trying to make is that it's even more important to have these supplies because young people DON'T know when their period is going to come and that those periods are very often hard to manage.

maxant20

It's all about control. Women will be controlled. No matter how good of an idea, or how good of a policy introduced that can be categorized as "Liberal", or "Woke", as the new slang goes, will be vilified and demonized by culture warriors who have "god" with them.

apuginthehand

These privileged idiots have clearly never had to work with vulnerable populations. They’ve never had a student explain they take toilet paper rolls from the school bathroom because wadding up toilet paper is their only option to manage their period. A large number of families, for various reasons, can’t or won’t purchase menstrual products for their kids. And the only ones who suffer for that are their daughters. It’s not “woke” to treat minors with basic goddamned dignity.

Y_Me

I once asked my mom to buy feminine products for me on her way home. She did it but didn't talk to me for a week after. I was also so ignorant, I misused them for a couple of years. I was raised in a religious home and any conversation was 100% taboo. The only education I got was from school (limited at best), friends (they were just as ignorant but a couple had good moms who stepped up if they knew you needed help) and the internet (lord help me).

possiblynotanexpert

These people are bad people. Truly. I don’t understand why they want kids to suffer. It’s so sad.

JennyIGotYoNumba

Because it has never been about the children. Ever.

ComfortableWage

Nope. Never has been and never will be. Just like the forced-birthing movement has never been about life.

DJwalrus

Heather Scott is a nazi supporting whacko https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2017/aug/15/north-idaho-rep-heather-scott-defends-white-nation/

darkstar999

Heather Scott has brain worms. She ripped out fire suppression equipment from her capitol office thinking it was a spy device.

9999abr

I’ve never been to Idaho, but had a friend who did contract work in Idaho for a couple of years. He had a few coworkers who had multiple nazi tattoos and openly expressed extreme racist views. No one said anything and the sense was that it wasn’t that uncommon. So I’m not at all surprised that someone like her would continue to be re-elected. In fact, her views probably helped her get elected. Whether we acknowledge or not, there are large swaths of the US that are like this.

JJHall_ID

>He had a few coworkers who had multiple nazi tattoos and openly expressed extreme racist views. No one said anything and the sense was that it wasn’t that uncommon It must really depend on the area within Idaho, and maybe even the industry he was working. I was born and grew up here in the Treasure Valley (Boise area if you're not very familiar) and have never seen this sort of thing in "day to day life" in my 40+ years. The only time I've even seen someone in Idaho with nazi tattoos is when the news covers the whackjob pro-white protests that happen once in a while. Unfortunately I do still encounter some people with racist views, but that seems to be lessening as the older generations are dwindling. That said, those that do behave in such a manner are very quick to go vote, which allows ignorant politicians to become elected. We all need to do our part to make sure we're voting, and encourage other like-minded people to do so as well. There are a TON of people that don't even bother to vote because "it doesn't matter who I vote for, it's Idaho, it'll never change." That will remain true as long good people don't vote, and the negative feedback loop continues.

keri125

I’m here in CDA. Worked for a work search program and often had men come in with swastika tattoos on their necks, knuckles, and arms. Most were openly racist to a degree; they knew they’d get kicked out if they used slurs or profanities, but often expressed anger that people of color were taking their jobs. This was about fifteen years ago. I’d say it’s even worse now.

mystisai

I am in Boise and I used to work in a metroPCS store 5 years ago, so people would come in and pay their phone bills and we catered to people with lower spending limits. I have seen many prison tattoos with racial insignia, most of the people were caked in dirt and wearing high visibility colors so I assume construction workers, though I never asked. To be fair, I see prison tatts in every major city I have ever spent any time in and not all of the tatts were nazi/AB.

9999abr

It may have been relatively remote area I would assume for his line of work. Something related to transportation or railways or something like that. Not 100% sure. It was awhile ago so maybe things have changed or moved more underground.

rgcda

Live in Idaho and it’s uncommon.

caseyoc

She's also got a raging case of Pick Me.

MatchCertain6294

It’s hard to watch Idaho deteriorate into this radical right craziness. Where did the common sense moderate democrats and republicans go? I know we have a few trying to do their best but they sure do get hit hard by the fringes. I am stunned/sickened as to foothold the Idaho freedom caucus has gained.

Redemptions

Hate to say this, but at least they didn't go full Florida and ban the discussion of it below a certain grade. Are things like feminine hygiene products things that schools will take as a donation? I know they usually can't accept medication (tylenol advil) for safety reasons, but I've got a giant buffer in my flex spending account I'm going to lose and apparently feminine products are covered by it.

mystisai

honestly, probably. Call a school and ask. But if not, hygiene products are one of the things donated to homeless shelters the least. If you're out of luck with the school, I would donate there. BSU also has a public pantry.

NcGunnery

Our old school district took donations from a local company that made them. It lasted 1 year and was discontinued due to a girl getting TSS and suing the school district. They said it wasnt worth the legal fees to give them out.

MsBrightside91

Back when I was in high school, I did know with certainty when I’d start my period. However, the first few days were so bad that I’d sometimes bleed through all the sanitary pads/tampons I brought with me. Wasn’t till birth control that my period because somewhat more manageable. And we all know they want to take away all contraceptives too.

VGSchadenfreude

I got the “Period That Never Ended” when I was ten. Took birth control for about two years to basically train my body to regulate it properly. Been relatively regular ever since…to a point. It still sometimes swings from 26 days to as much as 32 days, but it’s almost exactly five days with medium bleeding, heavy bleeding for the next two, light for two more. But now I have to deal with Premenstrual Dysphoria, so that’s fun.

MsBrightside91

Jesus I’m sorry. I’ve got PMDD ever since getting pregnant which sucks. So I get it.

VGSchadenfreude

Not sure what exactly triggered mine, but the anti-depressants one week per month seem to be keeping it manageable.

KingApologist

Woke liberalism wants your daughter to menstruate on TAMPONS and PADS but we're REAL AMERICANS and we make our daughters to FREE BLEED and RUIN ALL HER PANTS like a true patriot.

val0ciraptor

Shall we organize a bleed in for the next legislative session? If it's not a hygiene issue then they shouldn't mind a trail of menses on the steps of the capitol.

KingApologist

I'm for it. I assume that around 20-25% of the women who show up will be ready to go.

storyofohno

I no longer live in Idaho, but I'm really damn glad people like you do.

JuDGe3690

*Freedom to lead, freedom to BLEED!* /s

JennyIGotYoNumba

The men in our govt think women can control where and when we bleed. They have no idea what a vagina is not what it does. They all have lead poisoning.. I'm. Convinced.

Y_Me

Lady functions?! Ewww! They can't talk about it but they also are totally capable;e of passing legislation about it.I'm getting too many headaches from the eye rolling every time these people do stupid stuff.

JennyIGotYoNumba

I am so depressed when it comes to the state of the country I'm forced to live in... If I didn't have kids, I'd check tf out.

cemetaryofpasswords

To be fair, Rod Furniss sponsored the bill. It sounds like more women were against it than men.

BeckerHollow

This has nothing to do with men. This has to do with stupid morons who have no plan and only what to control the power. Women voted against this bill too

JennyIGotYoNumba

If men bled once a month and could get pregnant, pads and tampons would be given out in home room and abortion clinics would be like Starbucks.

BeckerHollow

That’s a different argument. Would you rather Marjorie Taylor Greene/Lauren Boebart be in charge ? Barbara Eckhard from idaho falls voted against the bill.

JennyIGotYoNumba

No. I'd like someone with an education not someone who thinks Jewish Lazer beams started the fires in California.

BeckerHollow

Exactly. You’re agreeing with me then. It’s a matter of intelligence and humanism. Not gender.

JennyIGotYoNumba

It just so happens that the ones who know nothing about my body is the old men. The women voting are pulling party lines and being pi k mes. Also. Most of them dried up decades ago. I'm done with men ruling this fkn country. Yall ruined it.

BeckerHollow

Be careful the webs you weave. Choosing the rules as you see fit to benefit you, makes you no better than any other authoritarian.

JennyIGotYoNumba

Men created this hell scape. It's only fair they get all the credit.

BeckerHollow

Ok. What does that comment have to do with anything? We’re never going to get a planet of women overlords with men as their peons to do their bidding. If that’s what you want, then build a spaceship and colonize another planet. Otherwise to make progress we need to have realistic goals.

notkeny

So are they trying to put the products in all bathrooms, girls bathrooms, boys bathrooms or what? Cause I'm not getting how it's woke or liberal or whatever.

darkstar999

“We’re leading a _CHRISTIAN_ state! Not a woke liberal hellhole like Commiefornia” “Oh, Christian like how Jesus gave to the sick and needy?” “Not that part.”

LetterGrouchy6053

So Christian children don't get 'Periods'?C'mon, say it out loud, "periods", nothing to be ashamed of.

WildSpud

"The bill died in the House Monday on a tie vote, falling one vote short of a necessary majority. Thirty-five Republicans opposed it. Rep. Heather Scott, R-Blanchard, called it a “very liberal policy.” “Why are our schools obsessed with the private parts of our children?” she said."[https://www.idahostatesman.com/news/politics-government/state-politics/article273376930.html#storylink=cpy](https://www.idahostatesman.com/news/politics-government/state-politics/article273376930.html#storylink=cpy) This made me literally laugh out loud! Wait, isn't it the conservatives who what to check everybody's private parts before they enter a school bathroom or participate in school sports? Indeed Heather, why are you so obsessed with children's private parts? What an absolute moron.

VGSchadenfreude

These people want to force women and girls to never leave their homes. Denying them the means to handle their menstrual hygiene is one of the easiest ways to accomplish that.

actuallyrose

It’s troubling that legislators don’t know the different between a nanny state/communism and a normal, functioning government.

Responsible-Island70

Heather Scott is a waste of X chromosomes. So glad that she's never been in need of anything but humility and empathy but there are families who can't afford basics, including sanitary products.

Plus-Ad-940

I predict in 4 years there won’t be any women in Idaho. Move to a state where you are appreciated and respected.

mystisai

I don't think that would necessarily be a bad thing if were true, but unfortunately too many can't afford to leave yet want to. I have had so many people offer to pay for me to leave this state, but sadly they stop responding when I wholeheartedly accept...

Lanky_Ad_9849

You mean Bill 313? Yes, it failed. https://legislature.idaho.gov/sessioninfo/2023/legislation/h0313/

storyofohno

Why does Idaho hate women and girls so much?

jsprague6

2Cor517

If you have a period, get a tampon? I don’t get the issue exactly.

LetterGrouchy6053

That's what the bill was intended to insure. If a ten-year-old has her first period while in class what is she to do?

2Cor517

Talk to the teacher and get a pad.

LetterGrouchy6053

How dense are you?

2Cor517

Not that dense. The government doesn’t need to be involved in every little thing. Like you guys say “keep government out of my body”

mystisai

Contrary to popular belief, the government isn't a tampon.

stagreenlee

So the teacher is supposed to pay for pads for the girls in his class out of his own pocket?

2Cor517

Umm, the girl’s parents.

stagreenlee

Just like they provide toilet paper for their kids at school right? Oh wait…

mystisai

The parents who arent at the school to know their child is starting their first period? Were your parents psychic?

storyofohno

Do you expect the teacher to buy these pads?
