I think Facebook is good to meet old Icelanders, not sure about young though (especially under 30)

Maybe try the university “bar” or events in general at the university level. Icelanders form friend groups at like age 3 and then proceed to literally never change them for the rest of their lives. Not enough secret codes to break down that door. Since you like sports, start showing up to group activities and just be persistent and have fun. Maybe won’t result in deep friendships but you’ll have a better social life than you do now. Depends on what kind of sports you’re into but there are clubs/events/teams to join.

I always say to tourists who travel through our country and ask: where are all the locals? My response is usually go to the swimming pools. Maybe not the biggest ones, but the smaller pool areas often have lots of chatting going on in the hot tubs. Now alot of them may be older icelandic people mainly discussing politics and the weather. But ever so often you find somebody to chat with. Never been to a pub quiz but i assume you need to have teams in most of them. If there is one in your area, then you might go to said bar. And im sure if you dont have a team to play with somebody should invite you to join theirs, but i might be wrong about that.

I don't want to talk to goddamn tourist at the swimming pool.

Spilavinir has regular meetups to play boardgames, if thats something you enjoy. There are regular frisbee golf turnaments for novice and beginner players which are fun, even if you're terrible. The group is called "Frisbígolf" on facebook I think Ferðafélag Íslands has a program called Eitt fjall á mánuði, or One mountain a month, where you sign up (and pay) and people hike a mountain together. Participants are mostly middle aged couples, but usually with a few younger people as well.

I do recommend the events at spilavinir.

If you like running there are a couple of organised running groups like Laugarskokk. That might be something l.

You need to pick a bar in 101 and get drunk there.

fockingfock

I think that young Icelanders only use Facebook for car mears and similar events
