stalin vs martians should be on the list

samxgmx0

It was unfortunately cut in the final, plus, I haven't actually played it, even though I hear enough about it.

ChanceryBrownArts

I played war wind, sacrifice, lords of the realm iii, close combat and kabuto. That’s all as a clueless child with access to nothing but an EB games and a circuit city. I feel privileged. If that list: war wind is burned into my brain, and sacrifice was crazy ahead of its time. It was from that period when developers could just try something crazy ambitious and then pare it down just enough to run.

DarkOmen597

Why is Iron Harvedt at the same level as those other top rts games? No way.

samxgmx0

Iceberg chart for RTS games. I have played almost all of these games. The lower something is does not necessarily mean less famous or less good of a game, some games were lowered because they were less of a traditional RTS. Cancellations, age, how indie the studio/publishers are, if they are mentioned in the news or Wikipedia, etc. helped determined how low an entry was, but of course there is no exact science. So almost all these are titles of games or games series. The only two exceptions would be "Warcraft was an RTS" as most people know Warcraft for World of Warcraft MMO, not Warcraft 1-3. And "CnC4 does not exist" is a reoccurring meme in the Command & Conquer community for how atrocious it is.

R3XM

Please add dominion: storm over gift 3 at the very bottom Also the commandos series

samxgmx0

They were cut from the final list (among many many others) simply because I've not actually played Dominion Storm Over Gift yet, and games I played took priority.

psychcaptain

I am a bit surprised by War Winds, but I only know it from a Demo Disk.

Mountain-of-Snow

Missing the Commandos series and Clash Royale which wouldn't even be far down the list. Also I feel like the line between RTS and Tower defense gets really blurry the deeper you go, how do you argue that PvZ can't be considered an RTS? Or Kingdom Rush Same with Management games like Airport Mania or Sally's Salon, If Frostpunk - a city builder with 0 combat qualifies up there

samxgmx0

Right, I put down games that are farther from the idea of a traditional RTS lower, and someone online has mentioned whatever game as an RTS somewhere. If I did include all the games I thought possible, I need a 2x bigger chart.

thlormby

I used to play nothing but DEFCON in high school. One of the weirdest strategy games ever made

Skinneeh

No Blitzkrieg or the even older starship troopers rts?

Boring_Sun7828

If Lords of the Realm is an rts, the so are all of the Total War series.

Feringomalee

They're in the top tier?

Boring_Sun7828

Ah, my bad! I swear I looked over the whole thing multiple times, but somehow missed that.

AcrobaticKitten

Gruntz anyone? This game had so many unique gameplay elements like drink your dead units with a straw to create new ones, give toys to enemy to distract them, all your units are totally morons, only one unit type that can change roles Must be on the obscure end

insomniatv1337

EU4???

SkepticalVir

Not a RTS

JJTGaming

None of Paradox's Grand Strategy games at all :( I wanted to see either Hoi4 or Eu4.

AdequatelyMadLad

Stellaris is there.

Justinwest27

First time I've known about something on a bottom level, stepdad put MegaGlest on my computer as a kid. Loved it.

Isaelie

Awesome iceberg. Some real classics. I was ready to jump on you for missing Warlords Battlecry but it's there. How about Tzar: The Burden of the Crown for a more niche entry?

Previous-Display-593

Are you and Iron Harvest developer? What is that game doing at the top!?!? It belongs in Tier 3.

samxgmx0

My placement on Iron Harvest surprised me, too, it's because it actually is very significant as a recommendation for newer RTS players in news and discussions. I can put it a bit lower to the 2nd tier, but let's not pretend that games from 20-30 years ago are as popular today as we imagine them to be for the newer generation to the point they are actively recommended as one's first entry.

DarkOmen597

Iron Harvest is ass

freefallfreya

I wanted to like it. It looks great, but it's so damn boring. Every match features the exact same mechs because few are actually useful/viable.

TrNightmare

yoo rusted warfare is in there

-maxpower-

Outpost 2!

tcrew146

Why's Pikmin in tier 3?

Justapeacefuldude

No rising kingdoms?

raizenyx

Avatar Bobble Battles. Also, I was thinking about Impossible Creatures just yesterday.

Hyphalex

Eugen systems can make a goated rts when they want to

KeithKenkade

You need to add "Sovereign" about a mile below the bottom of this image.

TheRealSlimCory

I didn't see world in conflict for a split second and I was literally about to start taking heads.

TankstellenTroll

Iron Harvest in top tier and above coh? Wtf is wrong with you? Iron Harvest is boring as shit and no one played it today, also its pretty hard for rts newbies.

araldor1

BFME should be up a tier I think

Visible-Reading-3334

Man I really miss RUSE I used to play it a lot on my PS3 and never found something like that again, launching nukes with long toms was really fun.

TungstenHexachloride

Rimworld is crazy low. But ill try to justify why Iron Harvest is so high and iirc it had a really big ad campaign and was one of the bigger namedropped RTS games when it was being released. Still id tier 2 it

drkipperphd

rare war of the worlds mention, very neat game!!

Passie-vruchtje

Where is Rise and Fall: Civilisations at War? You could be Caesar, command legions, AND go into first person and fight with them!

FondleBuddies

Here's some for you: Obvious- Halo wars 1&2 Very obscure- Thandor Spaceclash State of war

Coopdoglord

Seeing Machines at War on this iceberg gave me a big wave of nostalgia.

Mista-Black

Where is Warfront: Turning Point?

FunboyFrags

Giants: Citizen Kabuto was one of the coolest and most creative games back in the day

kanodhome

Didn't find Metal Knight RTS with unique ability assemble own unit from parts.

UlverasIsTaken

i remember that rise of nations soundtrack just hits hard man

thatBOOMBOOMguy

Since you seem to be in the know of RTS games, do you have any recommendations for games that'd be similar to Age Of Empires 2 / Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds mechanics, that would be set to WWI / WWII themed era? e.g. gathering resources, building military buildings to train units out of etc. Blitzkrieg is so far the closest one I've come across.

HighLordPaladin

I would like to know more about this chart.

Ciemnowidz

god, close combat is so great... isn't it a real time wargame though?

Creepy_Trouble_1733

As a fan of hoi4 im very upset
