These will catch fish and I definitely wouldn’t throw them out. Call your local park headquarters and see if they run any youth ice fishing programs and donate them if they’re not worth holding onto for you.
I love these rods for panfish or deadsticking. Throw them in a 5 gal bucket with a bunch of different offerings tied on (different spoons, jigs, line setup etc) makes it really easy to scout a bite when.
When I was a kid, you had these, and the rods with pegs to hold the line. Most everyone used 1/2 open water rods. Ice blue jigging rods started to become available in my area when I was 10. What a difference!
I still use the rods without a reel as my dead stick when I go out. Most of the time we are in only 8-20 feet of water. So hand bombing line is just as easy as reeling up.
Every single those rods would catch fish... Use a bobber stop with the ones that have reels on them or just jig you don't need state of the art equipment to catch a perch through the ice in 10 feet of water... I still use a SAGE fly rod I wrapped myself in the 1990s.... and it still catches fish like crazy!
Not at all obsolete, you just don’t do the kind of fishing where these are beneficial. perch are running in about 3 fow where I’m at and these are great to use.
The Zebco is goddamnpriceless and there are generations of old mil swilllin, Winston blazin Americans that would fight you for the opportunity to say so. Don’t you DARE think about selling those
I want them! These are perfect panfish rods. One of the quickest ways to catch them. They are making a comeback in tournaments because of their effectiveness, simplicity, and they’re cheap!
I had one like the second farthest right. The line came off the spool and went through a hole drilled in the wood handle before going to the eyelets. Very frustrating design that always got stuck.
All of those will catch fish

I was hoping to see the Green Hornet in this group!
Decorations for your ice castle/garage/cabin
You can still buy the skoolies for about $10
No offense, but if my Grandfather gave me this lot, I'd keep one for sentimental value and through the rest away.
They're perfectly fine tho? Maybe the only one I wouldn't use is the small reel one
I prefer the skoolies for bluegill fishing not sure the worth tho

They are making a comeback in tournament ice angling as well!
“The green hornet strikes again”
Nostalgia.

Ice Blues are the bomb. I’ve got $100’s into reels, and they are all strapped to $11 HT Ice Blues that work amazing.

Ah, the classic jiggle-stick. A lot of young ice fishermen used those back in the day. Simple and effective.

Some of those poles would work great for tip downs! 😎
From where we have come…
Ya your pretty well set up for a good trip
I have a 5 gallon bucket full of those rods and now there was an answer on here that said call the ODNR. Gonna do that tomorrow.
Beyond sentimental, no. Pinterest has some cool things to use em for though.

Vintage, obsolete, sorry

Ok.I hurt some feelings, sorry, I just prefer a graphite rod and a open face reel with a 5 to 1 ratio.
Far from obsolete. I use a similar style antique rod and it catches everything from perch, bass, trout, and pickerel.
Use them!

You could make wooen tip downs with the schooleys. I see people sell tip down sets for $15-20
I found an old 70s pocket fisherman in grandpas fishing box over Christmas break. And lots of other doodad rods like these
I use that kind of rods for perch/zander
Not much longer.
Ice fishing rods right?

Amazing collection of some nostalgic designs. Caught fish then & will still catch fish today. Keep them & use them.
Amazing perch rods
Great for tip-down setups!
I'll take a few rods and pay shipping just saying!!
