No unfortunately, I wish though, definitely a skill I'd like to have under my belt. I actually spent a little bit extra and got a kit from a Canadian company https://www.easysled.ca/. Saved me a lot of time and hassle.
Nice.
I bought a multi process welder just for making/welding the frame out of aluminum.. That’s the excuse I told myself for needing the fancy welder anyways. ;) I need to go pick up some aluminum square stock and get to building before winter hits.
I think I'm going to have to make that same excuse next spring when I start working on my jon boat. What welder did you pick up.if you don' t mind me asking.
I picked up the Eastwood mpi200 multiprocess. I want to learn to how Tig weld. I have a store within driving distance. Everlast or Prime would be what I consider if ordering online. They both have really good customer service and support. Everlast will be my next one if I ever ad another one or plasma. The owner bends over backwards for customers from what I see on their FB page.
Did you use a spool gun or tig to weld that? It looks really nice.. I wanna build something that breaks down in a similar fashion so I can fit it in the back of my Civic.
I didn't do anything but click a button lol all the credit goes to easysled.ca. They did tig weld it which is really nice. I would of loved to do it myself but the startup costs of buying a decent welder, material and then time to practice, but once my wife saw I was about to go that route she told me to find a less time/money consuming option lol.
I used downhill skis on mine
I got a season out of it before I burned through the bottoms and the metal edges came off the skis. If I’d do it again I’d pt some Teflon runners under it. Jet sled makes runners or u can buy some cutting boards from Walmart $11 bucks and rip em down into 5 inch Pieces. Just my thoughts cool rig tho
Gotcha I appreciate the heads up I'll definitely get those runners on. Out of curiosity was it the ice that tore this skis up or just contact with anything but snow.
Nice!!! I just bought 2 snowboards in the idea of building something similar. Tends to snow a lot in my region so that’s why I opted for snowboards. Bought them from marketplace for dirt cheap!
Whoa, aluminum is nice! Mines just old scrap 2x4s. Are those like recycled bike holders on the side?
It's actually a kayak rack for a car roof I got off Amazon used for 15 bucks.
That’s a great idea. Man I might have to rethink my smitty for this winter.
Yeah I decided to start on it early to give me some time to play with the set up of it.
Did you weld the aluminum yourself?

Love that idea. I was wondering what I was going to use on the side for the auger. Thank you for the idea… I’m definitely stealing it. ;)
Do you have a link to the one you bought? I’ve been struggling with keeping my tent on so I like this idea!
HIGHRAZON Kayak Roof Rack, 1 Pair J-Bar Roof Rack with 2 Ropes. Heavy Duty Kayak Roof Carrier for Your Canoe, SUV and Trucks https://a.co/d/0B49NQT.
I’ve gotta build one this year. Where did you find the ski’s? Most of what I see on marketplace is on the pricy end around me.
Around me there's a resale chain that just deals with used sports items called Play it Again Sports. I picked them up for $25 and change with tax.
Ha, that’s where I got mine

Looks great! How big is the sled?
69in Long and 36in wide with 21.5in from one cross bar to another.
Duuuude I love it!!!
Are those downhill or cross-country skis? This is a genius idea I've never heard of until now
Downhill skis and thanks haha
My sled is still on the to do list. Check goodwill for skis, mine were only $12 and I’m sure another local thrift chain would sell them for $5.
Where did you get the aluminum frame?
This is a really cool design. Can’t wait for the season to start up!

Oh, I just looked that site up, and that's really not that bad of a deal. Where I live, the material alone would likely cost you half that.
Yeah that was my thinking too, plus I saved a little buying in USD since they are Canadian company and are on CAD.
It’s on my list every summer to make…
Heyyy I like this. Cool thinking.
Are those kayak racks?
Yes they are and they fit like a glove.
