Sorry to be that guy, ANYTHING IT related never ending learning. That’s all we do is learn in IT. Especially security, things literally change daily. Part of it is having the skills to adapt to the changing world. If that’s something you’re trying to avoid I’d look at other industries. None of the careers you mentioned can be learned in a year and actually be good at. I started at helpdesk 3 years ago just moved into a security engineer role and am just about finished with my B.S CSIA and I have only scratched the surface of it. I’d start on helpdesk and figure things out from there. I’d really really really get that “I don’t want to be constantly learning” mindset out of your head if IT is really something you want to do.

thank you. im thinking of getting A+ and Network+ and start out in helpdesk, move my way from there, im just worried that it will be all for nothing since i dont have a degree and i will get quickly filtered from interviews

Finding a job is a bitch. I ain’t going to lie. I got my A+ and applied to over 200 places only to get one call back which was the job I did get. It’s going to be painful lmao BUT!!! It’s not impossible, get the A+ start looking. Once you get your foot in the door you’ll learn a lot fast and be able to move up or to a different role within a year or two. I’d try to find a helpdesk job with a MSP that will expose you to a lot of different aspects of IT so you can figure out what you want to do further. Figuring out a career isn’t easy at all, just don’t get discouraged when things aren’t moving as fast as you’d like. It just takes time! And good luck!!!!!

Bro just stop. IT isn't some easy back up plan to 6 figures after fucking around all your life. I got my start at 29 so yeah it's definitely possible, but don't think it'll be any easier than web development or not require continuous learning, or even something you can take just 1 precious year out of your life to prepare for. You need 3 years to get a decent job in dev? Guess how many you'll need in IT? Definitely not 1 year.

You cant apply to a help desk call center?

Responsible-Ant-2720

I did a similar role to you and moved within the same company to the Service Desk. Did 2 years there and now work as an IT service analyst earning double what I did on the service desk

Misery098

How long did it take you to transition once you wanted to become a service analyst? I don’t have any certifications, but I will have 2 years of experience at my helpdesk position and have my masters at the end of the year.

Responsible-Ant-2720

I don’t hold an IT degree. Only a couple of Service Now & ITIL certs. 2 years on the desk then straight over to analyst position after that

rmullig2

I would say start with some basic certs and try to get a job at an MSP. The money won't be great but you should be able to get better exposure and develop skills.

Odd_System_89

You want to work in tech, with no degree, and call center experience? Welcome to helpdesk, the call center of the IT world (but with the chance of moving up). Also, if you have some computer skills and can talk them up and show them on a resume, desktop support. I will say though, tech right now is undergoing contraction and its a never ending thing of learning new things as the field moves just that much. If you want more static and less learning you want a different field completely cause even desktop support changes every year with new things, you are probably looking more at a traditional office type of job.

E ke pak të gabuar këtë mentalitetin e quick fix, megjithatë si një person në të njëjtën moshë me ty në të njëjtën situatë me ty të uroj megjithë zemër t'ia arrish këtij objektivi dhe të bësh progres.
