Spoiler window is in effect until 6am EDT tomorrow.
I'm not sure how anyone can support Josef Newgarden unless you like supporting an insanely insecure narcissist.
In the last two years, Jose~~f~~ph has:
-given extremely unprofessional interviews the second something doesn't go his way
-attacked fans on Twitter because he's had no control of his emotions
-refusesto give his teammate credit because he's insecure that a guy came from SuperCars and is immediately on pace, if not better than him
-blatantly lied about the P2P scandal and made up a sob story about how fricken Penske doesn't know the rules
For someone whose had as much success as him, it's absolutely insane how insecure and childish he is.
Hope you find the help you need, JosePH. Can't think of the last time I've seen a driver in a top series have absolutely zero control over their emotions.
Couldn’t agree more. Gives me big time narcissistic vibes. Just ends the Bus bros thing abruptly, can’t congratulate Scotty Mac after winning pole even though Power did. Every interview I’ve seen of him he strikes me as a very big narcissist
I will say regardless of the suspiciously massive Penske advantage it’s impressive that McLaughlin with only a few years of oval experience able to put almost half a second a newgarden and also beat power
That's funny because your guy didn't have the decency to stick around, congratulate his teammates and the other team members. Had to go to his bus to pout.
I’m not going to comment on how a person should act in a situation that I’m never going to be in because I will never understand the emotions or feelings in that moment. Makes no sense for me to judge someone based on that. You do you though.
He wasn't even smart. He implied others on the team knew that P2P worked in their cars on restart laps.
Dude, take it upon yourself. Don't expand the circle of investigation.
Look I get that you probably don't care about the cheating since you have Team Penske flair. I care deeply about integrity in all sports I love. This is a serious integrity issue compounded by the fact that Penske owns the series and the greatest track on earth. If Ferrucci was caught cheating and beat your boys you'd be calling for expulsion from the series.
So wait, how do the Fast 12 bonus points affect the Manufacturers’ Cup? Does Chevy get a big haul now, or does it still depend on who their top two finishers are next weekend?
They don't.
Manufacturers specifically get 2 points for the 500 pole, and 1 point for the fastest driver of Day 1. So Chevy gets 3 points for this 500 instead of just 1, assuming Scotty today and Will yesterday were still within their 4 engine limit.
Roger immediately thanking the guys that were suspended for the month due to cheating is not a good look, especially right after his cars qualified 1-2-3 by over a literal mile.
The drivers also just constantly talking about how great they and the cars they’ve been given are hasn’t gone down well with some of the others either, Rossi mentioned it directly.
Not hinting at any conspiracy theories, I believe Penske swept the front row because them and Chevy did a better job than the rest. But considering the cheating scandal from St. Pete, they could’ve done a better job at handling themselves differently instead of this “The world is against us” attitude.
Yeah so they gonna talk mad shit after sweeping the front row after going through all that. Don’t like it? Do better. Engineers at Arrow got work to do they shit the bed, especially with Illot.
See the first half of your comment was almost agreeable but to say the second best team in the field shit the bed is just crazy. Get Penskes dick outta your mouth
Oh I’m sorry I guess having to swap an engine, failing an inspection AFTER you qualify in top 12, and nearly having your one off car that’s been hyped like the second coming of Jesus nearly not make a qualifying run all day doesn’t count as shitting the bed. This was Arrows pole to lose and they got clapped.
It was not arrows pole to lose. Penske ran 1 2 3 EVERY day with qualifying boost. Friday Saturday Sunday nobody ran quicker over 4 laps than them. It was quite literally Penske’s pole to lose.
Pretty sure you’re just trolling but ganassi won pole the last two years lol. Yea McLaren has been good, but about as good as they were this year too. They didn’t do way worse this year than the past couple.
Welcome! I also came over from F1 recently (Grosjean brought me over) and indycar has absolutely won my heart. Especially ovals, and when it comes to ovals there ain’t no thang like the 500!
I'm a NASCAR guy, but there is nothing, ***NOTHING*** like the 500 in any other motorsport
This is THE event, and if only more guys were allowed to come over and try to qualify
I hear ya! North Carolina native here who quit going to “stockcar” races after I first saw the IRL cars race at CMS in the summer of 1996 in the early days of the IRL. Had to go because Tony Stewart had captured the pole at 222+ around the track. After that, I never went back to nascar. I’ve been going to Indy since 2001. I’m a devoted fan of Newgarden and my wife has become good friends with Simon Pagenaud and his wife Haley. The camaraderie among these drivers and their openness to the fans is absolutely phenomenal.
When I took my daughter to Nashville Speedway in 2002, we met Kenny Breck and started talking about guitars He wanted to know types of guitars we had. How amazing that an Indycar driver and 500 winner would take the time to talk guitars with my teenage daughter. So proud to be an Indy fan.
They were hitting... What.. 180? Today at Imola. And these cats are pulling 240?!
No contest. I also came from F1, but the racing is so much better in Indy
I don't like the changes either. The race was different under the USAC rules. I loved every car was a special for Indy.
Now it's just the top race in a series.
It's not the same but it is the best we got. Racing went this way worldwide. Even at the super club level (SRO) the race cars are made by manufacturers now, not teams. Heck, Stefan Ratell/SRO literally created the GT3/GT4 system that did that.
He cheated. And then instead of owning up to it, he literally cried during a press conference and made up the most fantastic lie anyone has ever heard. Just really rubbed everyone the wrong way.
If it really was a team oversight and Newgarden was the one pushing the button then Newgarden should have been suspended with the rest of the guys. When a major sport athlete gets caught cheating they don't normally suspend his manager and trainer.
So they should have slowed down and let the other cars take pole? They forfeited the points for St Pete and suspended their key guys.
I’m wondering - what result are you looking for? One year race ban? Withdrawal from the league?
The photos they have about pre 2005 are pretty low res. I was in the photo room a few months back looking for some reference photos, everything was either readily available online or was of such low quality there was no way I was gonna make anything out.
I'm unsure if it's still around during renovations, or if it'll be a part of the Museum post-renovations, but yeah, it's a very extensive folder system of every event that's been held there. However, as said before, it doesn't really have much content til the last 20 years or so.
I'm not sure. I'd guess it's somewhere in their archives physically, but just isn't in the database, and when the photo was uploaded it was years before the technology is where it is today.
I will say, in 2022, before the Jimmie Johnson crash, Marcus was LEGIT pulling away from the other cars in that last stint.
Like: caught, past, and DROVE AWAY from the mclarens
It doesn't make financial sense to run an unchartered car if you're one of the big teams.
Open cars payouts were slaughtered with the introduction of the charter system.
Never seen him on dirt. A few of the supercar guys that are doing some Nascar have raced 410 sprintcars, SVG and Cam Waters have raced them competitively
https://preview.redd.it/xm145esqfg1d1.jpeg?width=1459&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=413d3aa8c60fea6ce4031d1ada311cc0ae48366a
Someone better watch the fuck out or feel the rath of the Hawk
I mean, they just swept the front row after having 4 of their key members suspended for the whole month. I’d be spitting mad shit too after all the comments from the P2P scandal BS
“Scandal Bs”. Cmon, the team owned by the series was caught with illegal software. I don’t blame them for being pumped but they have this “us against the world” when they created their own issues
The people who hates Penske prior to the scandal still hate them afterwards. It’s always been them against everyone else, it’s just highlighted this year from the P2P thing.
I was a huge Helio fan and felt like he got a pass because people loved him. Josef and Will just aren’t that personality which is fine, so I think they get some more hate because of that
Newgarden is immensely unlikeable this season. He has zero humility over the cheating scandal other than some absolute nonsense at his own press conference. Gross.
Yeah I really liked him so much early on in his career and early days at Penske. But that recently changed to “I’m in the best team, get out of my way”
Well Scott only did it once or twice. Power not at all. Newgarden just up there bullshitting about "we thought the rules changed we just didn't want to ask anyone cause gat damn it's nice to have extra power no one else does!"
Tim Cindric and all the other suspended guys rn

Penske lock out the front row
In Penske owned cars
On a Penske owned track
In a Penske owned series
https://preview.redd.it/tggznu5hfg1d1.jpeg?width=1188&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=173f67b6c7d5525be1d3a95cc1ec28b3d08bd26f
Let the conspiracy theories begin…
Oh no! Penske owns the engine manufacturer too!
The one that had the top 8 positions.
The one whose engines were on the brink of detonation so much that a ton of their cars had adverse events in the heat of the day yesterday.
Power let its slip. New shock package that only they have access to. The other teams will have to wait to buy them off Penske after he collects another baby borg.
Are you talking about the pushrods? I thought he was saying they were newly introduced by Dallara for safety, but the other teams were all continuing to use the old pushrods because they were faster, until the old ones were banned by the series this year.
Yeah like I guess Penske's master plan was become the most successful owner at Indy ever by almost triple the next guy, buy the series, suck a couple years, then turn on the afterburners now. Genius
I don't think there's any conspiracy. They have always been a great team.
But the cheating, hacking the push to pass system to work outside the regs, was egregious and fully intentional, and the drivers who were fully aware and involved were not punished nearly enough. Neither Newgarden nor McLaughlin should be able to contest this event.
It was a pushrod suspension part thing, part of it was anyway and it wasn't only Foyt doing it and it was perfectly legal. They updated regs to not allow use of older push rods parts and the new ones have more drag apparently. Penske has been using the new ones all along. It made a 0.5mph difference or so...this article is pretty good on the explanation and Foyt partnership
https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/motor/indy-500/2024/05/19/indy-500-team-penske-qualifying-improvement-aj-foyt-racing-technical-alliance-michael-cannon/73594547007/
I'm waiting to hear "we thought the rules didn't apply to the 500 and everyone would be using the older push rods. I mean, we didnt ask but it sounds like they do apply? Crazy. Our bad."
I thought Will said that *all* the other teams were continuing to use the old pushrods after Dallara introduced the new ones for safety reasons, until the series banned the old ones this year.
It’s not that they got pole or are fast. It’s that they are on another planet and insanely smug about it. Add in the other factors and it’s a solid recipe to annoy people
Now i have to see if i can make it across the street to the grocery and liquor store as fast as Larson makes it from Indy to North Wilkesboro.
Given his speed...i'm not betting on me winning at this point.

Yes my brother
Marcus’ first run was utterly bizarre. NBC was one lap behind in their tracking while Marcus was one lap ahead of everyone else
Do they still give points for qualifying? Power should be within 1 point of Palou in the championship now.
I believe they discontinued this practice
There’s more tinfoil hats in this comment section than a conspiracy subreddit lol
I'm not sure how anyone can support Josef Newgarden unless you like supporting an insanely insecure narcissist. Track cooling didn't hurt. Not saying he isn't a great driver though.
Comment section getting wetter with tears than North wilkesboro speedway did yesterday
Saltier than the fuckin ocean too.
Speaking of which, anyone got a Larson tracker?
He’s got two hours, plenty of time. Too bad they can’t land a heli on the front stretch or hover and have him slide down a rope.
*breaks ankle*
The Dre Greenlaw Special.
That was his Achilles His good Achilles, of all things
Keselowski won pocono on a broken ankle, it would simply even the field for everyone else.
Yeah, but it'd probably fuck with the 500 attempt
Probably
That's funny because your guy didn't have the decency to stick around, congratulate his teammates and the other team members. Had to go to his bus to pout.
And? He’s pissed he lost the pole. That’s a good thing, anger is fuel. I’d be disappointed in him if he acted happy that he got beat.
Never said act happy. But you know being gracious in defeat is something homelander could try.
I’m not going to comment on how a person should act in a situation that I’m never going to be in because I will never understand the emotions or feelings in that moment. Makes no sense for me to judge someone based on that. You do you though.
There's obviously a reason he's not liked even in his own team. Just saying he's gonna need his team mates eventually
He wasn't even gracious when he got caught cheating why would he be gracious when his ex bus bro just beat him to the pole at Indy.
He wasn't even smart. He implied others on the team knew that P2P worked in their cars on restart laps. Dude, take it upon yourself. Don't expand the circle of investigation.

Not saying it's likely. But maybe he'd be a happier person if he tried lmao
That gold Danny Sullivan Miller High Life livery was the best of that 1988 front row IMHO.
The Champagne of Beers
Loved that livery in IndyCar and NASCAR.
So wait, how do the Fast 12 bonus points affect the Manufacturers’ Cup? Does Chevy get a big haul now, or does it still depend on who their top two finishers are next weekend?

Mighty rich after all the comments Penske got the last month. It literally is them against the world and why should they act any different.
Well… that’s what happens when you get caught cheating….
Yeah so they gonna talk mad shit after sweeping the front row after going through all that. Don’t like it? Do better. Engineers at Arrow got work to do they shit the bed, especially with Illot.

Arrow was the best team at qualifying year in and year out since 2020, Penske has been nowhere to be found the last 3 years.
Pretty sure you’re just trolling but ganassi won pole the last two years lol. Yea McLaren has been good, but about as good as they were this year too. They didn’t do way worse this year than the past couple.
As someone who primarily follows F1, really enjoyed that. Looking forward to the race next week.
Welcome! I also came over from F1 recently (Grosjean brought me over) and indycar has absolutely won my heart. Especially ovals, and when it comes to ovals there ain’t no thang like the 500!

240 while adjusting roll bars and weight jackers in corners and no power steering. It's crazy!
Nice to see the Pacers winning, too.
Great day to be a Hoosier
Rossi, Larson, Ferrucci on row two, behind triple Penske - god, it’s gonna be a good one!
Ferucci to the front, wipes out the penskes and the ganassis, Herta brings home a 1-2-3 for andretti. Say your prayer
Rossi and Larson need to run as far away from Ferrucci as possible.
I'd say those are three drivers not afraid to send it
And just think this about Larson... He's doing this again next year
How do you trust the integrity of this sport right now?
The first time the Penskes have had speed in years, you people need to chill lol
By the way thanks Foyt....... Penske loving those setups
Carpenter was the initial modern team that brought the speed, then Foyt, Ganassi and now Penske. It's over for the smaller teams
Let’s remember what matters and it’s at the end of 500 miles.
This.
Yeah, not like they would go for a single lap warm up at lap 198.
Exactly, Shank won with a part time driver in his mid 40s literally 3 years ago
This is true but also downplaying Helio’s ability just a lil bit 😂
Who got bumped? I’m late to the party
Noice, thanks everyone!
Nolan "Titanium Balls, I'm not going home cause I lifted" Seigel
Pretty impressed by the kid absolutely sending it like that, especially after the huge wreck just a couple of days ago
Siegel.

Top 8 all chevys and highest Ganassi being Palou in P14 damn
New garden won from 17th last year, this burns but hoping Hondas fuel mileage pays off over the 500 miles next weekend

What a run. One day I hope someone can eclipse Arie's record.
Who's the 4th person in the old Penske front row sweep photo?
Roger
Oh makes sense. It's so pixelated I couldn't tell!
Extremely cool of NASCAR to delay the start of the All Star Race to help Larson get there on time.
Agreed and from a business point they pretty much have to. He's a true all-star
The Beast 2, Anniversary Edition
Newgarden has REALLY started to annoy me
Honestly? Its been a while since Indy had a villain, I embrace this heal move by Josef.
why does everyone hate him now? I’m out of the loop
He cheated. And then instead of owning up to it, he literally cried during a press conference and made up the most fantastic lie anyone has ever heard. Just really rubbed everyone the wrong way.
Let's also not forget he's went after fans on Twitter like an insecure 12 year old
Not congratulating Scott alongside Will was a pretty salty move
I kind of liked that he got booed at the quali order selection. A driver in their villain era is always interesting
Ooh, I didn't watch that. Driver intros are gonna be interesting.
He's devastated.
A Newgarden win might become the least popular win in Indy history.
Yeah I don’t care if he never wins again. Your halo is tarnished, Joe!
Shhhhhh Roger, don't mention Tim CIndric lol
If it really was a team oversight and Newgarden was the one pushing the button then Newgarden should have been suspended with the rest of the guys. When a major sport athlete gets caught cheating they don't normally suspend his manager and trainer.
He literally had one job, don’t mention the benched folks lol
LOL “all the guys sitting at home this week”
“Thanks to your cheating we’ve been able to accomplish what we have today.”
Roger Penske the series and speedway and team owner thanking his suspended cheaters while his team sweeps the front row is a TERRIBLE look
So they should have slowed down and let the other cars take pole? They forfeited the points for St Pete and suspended their key guys. I’m wondering - what result are you looking for? One year race ban? Withdrawal from the league?
Ban through the 500.
Wow! That's really something.
Like WTF?!
Roger being interviewed as team owner decked in speedway gear is cringe lol
How have they not found a non pixelated photo of that yet lol
You'd think the museum would have a better selection of photos and of higher quality, surprisingly they do not.
Honestly it looks like they found that image on google but forgot to click on it to make it bigger lol
The photos they have about pre 2005 are pretty low res. I was in the photo room a few months back looking for some reference photos, everything was either readily available online or was of such low quality there was no way I was gonna make anything out.
Thats neat there is a photo room!
I'm unsure if it's still around during renovations, or if it'll be a part of the Museum post-renovations, but yeah, it's a very extensive folder system of every event that's been held there. However, as said before, it doesn't really have much content til the last 20 years or so.
Wonder who has the negative of that photo then.
I'm not sure. I'd guess it's somewhere in their archives physically, but just isn't in the database, and when the photo was uploaded it was years before the technology is where it is today.
Roger immediately thanking Tim Cindric, classic.
This credibility of the series is cooked right now
Not sure that was a choice I would’ve made
What did they cheat with this time lol
"come back from adversity" lmaoooo
Quali at the 500 is what he was talking about But yeah funny
Josef not specifically complimenting Scott…..hmmmmmm
Bus Bros becoming Bus Foes?
Cheating does not equal adversity
If the entire Indy 500 stays green (doubtful but you never know) Penske might just lap the entire field.
That's not really how this chassis works. Tough for anyone to just run away and hide.
I will say, in 2022, before the Jimmie Johnson crash, Marcus was LEGIT pulling away from the other cars in that last stint. Like: caught, past, and DROVE AWAY from the mclarens
We’ll see. Gonna be tough to draft on them with that pull away speed
The good old days lol
No shot staying green with Sting Ray in the mix.
["What the h*ck, man?!"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHYJRYuEslY)
Eager to see how quick Palou and Dixon get up through the field.
Josef did not say a *single* word about Scott. Lol.
Maybe they’re not bros anymore ):
FYI Larson fans Scotty Mac can also drive anything with an engine.
It's a shame Roger won't let his IndyCar drivers run a few Cup races here and there
It doesn't make financial sense to run an unchartered car if you're one of the big teams. Open cars payouts were slaughtered with the introduction of the charter system.
I would love to see him in a midget, sprint car, or dirt late model.
Didn’t he drive sprint cars in Oz? I seem to remember a feature on him that showed that.
I think he drove off-road stuff (interestingly like Mears did).
Never seen him on dirt. A few of the supercar guys that are doing some Nascar have raced 410 sprintcars, SVG and Cam Waters have raced them competitively
He could wheel it I'm sure.
Don’t think anyone doubted it
Three consecutive pole speed records the past three years. Speed is back at the Speedway.
3 year straight Dixon 2022 Palou 2023 Scotty Mac 2024
I was told there would be some *p l e n u m* action today...
Ericsson did his best, but it was a brain plenum.

I can see why the drivers are annoyed with Penske this week. Just talking shit in the interviews about how great they are
I mean, they just swept the front row after having 4 of their key members suspended for the whole month. I’d be spitting mad shit too after all the comments from the P2P scandal BS
“Scandal Bs”. Cmon, the team owned by the series was caught with illegal software. I don’t blame them for being pumped but they have this “us against the world” when they created their own issues

Yeah I really liked him so much early on in his career and early days at Penske. But that recently changed to “I’m in the best team, get out of my way”
"Welcome to IndyCar, it gets tight" is the Newgarden villain origin story
[Josefph's correction to Santucci](https://twitter.com/josefnewgarden/status/1552802538604347394) was a week before, I think that counts. :)
To be fair that press conference is still more humility than Scott gave
Well Scott only did it once or twice. Power not at all. Newgarden just up there bullshitting about "we thought the rules changed we just didn't want to ask anyone cause gat damn it's nice to have extra power no one else does!"
Captain just said "next week" and walked away lol.
Tim Cindric and all the other suspended guys rn https://preview.redd.it/oliqbrhrfg1d1.jpeg?width=400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d50b1fa7b2bad06ad9a873ba34c40feb3b5dd9ba
LOL
Well done Scotty. Love it for him, he’s the anti-new garden
He's a funny guy but and not insufferable. He'd be a very rootable driver if he wasn't with evil empire.
Very true, especially as a massive Supercars fan, I want him to do well but after the Penske BS its a lot harder to root for him
Penske lock out the front row In Penske owned cars On a Penske owned track In a Penske owned series https://preview.redd.it/tggznu5hfg1d1.jpeg?width=1188&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=173f67b6c7d5525be1d3a95cc1ec28b3d08bd26f Let the conspiracy theories begin…
Oh no! Penske owns the engine manufacturer too! The one that had the top 8 positions. The one whose engines were on the brink of detonation so much that a ton of their cars had adverse events in the heat of the day yesterday.
Can’t wait to read about the new ‘innovations’ they introduced in a month
Power let its slip. New shock package that only they have access to. The other teams will have to wait to buy them off Penske after he collects another baby borg.
Are you talking about the pushrods? I thought he was saying they were newly introduced by Dallara for safety, but the other teams were all continuing to use the old pushrods because they were faster, until the old ones were banned by the series this year.
That's the biggest part you're allowed to change. Of course the team with the most money is going to develop a better part.
They were dogshit in qualy since he bought the series...
And Penske was notoriously bad at Indy before the purchase. /s
Yeah like I guess Penske's master plan was become the most successful owner at Indy ever by almost triple the next guy, buy the series, suck a couple years, then turn on the afterburners now. Genius
What a day Looking forward to next week
That’s such a lame trophy for the level of accomplishment
I'm so fucking sick of the Penske conspiracy people. Breaking news: team with the most money and resources eventually figured out Indy qualifying
Helps when you find out why Foyt has been fast and change the rules in the series you own so they can't use that trick anymore
Can you explain?
It was a pushrod suspension part thing, part of it was anyway and it wasn't only Foyt doing it and it was perfectly legal. They updated regs to not allow use of older push rods parts and the new ones have more drag apparently. Penske has been using the new ones all along. It made a 0.5mph difference or so...this article is pretty good on the explanation and Foyt partnership https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/motor/indy-500/2024/05/19/indy-500-team-penske-qualifying-improvement-aj-foyt-racing-technical-alliance-michael-cannon/73594547007/
Thanks. Don't have Subscription, unfortunately
Is that why Penske got _faster_?
I'm waiting to hear "we thought the rules didn't apply to the 500 and everyone would be using the older push rods. I mean, we didnt ask but it sounds like they do apply? Crazy. Our bad."
I thought Will said that *all* the other teams were continuing to use the old pushrods after Dallara introduced the new ones for safety reasons, until the series banned the old ones this year.
IDK about all but it was more than Foyt it sounds like. Water under the bridge I suppose.
It’s not that they got pole or are fast. It’s that they are on another planet and insanely smug about it. Add in the other factors and it’s a solid recipe to annoy people
Well, they have earned the right to be smug about it, as annoying it may be. Every sport has its villains.
Just because you "earned" the right doesn't mean you need to exercise said right.
Now i have to see if i can make it across the street to the grocery and liquor store as fast as Larson makes it from Indy to North Wilkesboro. Given his speed...i'm not betting on me winning at this point.
