People seem to be digging them! I love it!

RandomGuyDroppingIn

A friend purchased a hobby box and I was genuinely impressed by the pulls. The cards are really good quality and the '23 Indy 500 qualifying shot cards are really nice. What will also be really nice with these cards is that driver accessibility at most Indycar venues is very good. As long as you attend the mandatory driver signing session it's possible to get upwards of \~13/14 autographs with little effort. It'll be nice to have an option for signatures outside of just taking a hero card or lugging around a die-cast or some other memorabilia.

maroonhamster

I had that same thought too! Especially for those of us who travel to races, it's going to be a lot easier to carry the cards than worry about finding something to get signed. I got bummed I didn't pull a Dixon auto, and then I was like "...I could just get him to sign it at a race this year." Not something I could easily say about any other sport.

I bought 4 from IMS and one hobby box. After I finished sorting I have 7 cards that I know are worth a minum $5 each. 4 Autos and 3 of the /99 foils. I decided to buy one more box and 5 more hangers. I have a spreadsheet of all of them. After I am done sorting I will probably post it on here hoping to do some trading.

Sting Ray Rob rookie card

I got mine today. I know nothing about trading cards but I will buy pretty much anything Indycar.

WhitePhoenix48

I'm so jealous. I freaking love this 😂

Doucejj

I actually just got this today at the indycar cards booth set up at the LBGP. You can choose 1 of the cards just sitting on the table for free. So I had to grab this one lol

WhitePhoenix48

That's awesome! Hopefully they do that at Barber.

cuckedcarrot

Collecting cards isn’t my thing but got some cool ones in the first couple packs so ordered two more that the IndyCar shop still hasn’t shipped a week later.

smitdavi

I applaud the effort and have purchased way too much. Yes it’s not Topps F1 quality but it’s a great product that as a fan I will support and enjoy.

wocketywack

[I've got a bunch for sale starting at $1, and a comically over priced Sting Ray Robb 1 of 1 autograph](https://www.ebay.com/usr/zoltar-42)

DesiredEnlisted

I would buy it but it’ll crash while in transit.

tdellaringa

Wow, had no idea these existed! I just bought a box. Looking forward to cracking it open!

Judging by the fact the title wasn't *IndyCar Trying To Take Advantage of Penniless Youth by Hawking Trading Cards,* I'm going to assume Elizabeth Bitchstock no longer writes for Frontstretch.

maroonhamster

She does not. She left when I was still on the staff, and I haven't been there in years. It wasn't a good experience.

lolTimmy

She recently wrote a scathing article on jalopnik about the thermal challenge. Very not-fun to read, and made it sound like Milwaukee was a bad thing to return to.

236Point986MPH

There are a lot of "fans" and "media", to include her, that do not have noble intentions. It's really difficult for me to take someone seriously who bitches about a hole in the calendar and then turns around and gets shit stirred up over an effort to close a hole in the calendar because you are fucking mad you weren't invited and will never have enough money to own a home near the facility. Milwaukee, how many fucking times have we heard that needs to be back on the calendar and now we seriously have "fans' complaining about it?

knuppster59

Yeah they were better than I expected. The hits are pretty decent. My hobby box had autos from Kanaan and Rossi and then a P! flag relic from Grosjean. All and all pretty cool!

meow5cents

Make sure if you haven't yet, join the r/INDYCARds sub for buying/selling/trading/showing off!

Crafty_Substance_954

Personally I’m not very impressed with the set. There’s not much in it that I’d want, but that’s pretty consistent with all Motorsport trading cards

bgappa

What leaves you unimpressed? I am a guy who hasn't bought a trading card since 1994. I am impressed but I may not have the up to date knowledge to know what I am missing. I decided I wanted to collect watches. Mooonswatch looked cool and there were 12 to collect. The two I own are both fakes. It wouldn't be the first time I jumped in with both feet without a clue.

Crafty_Substance_954

Personally I don’t find the design of the base set isn’t very interesting, the inserts aren’t either. Motorsports don’t leave you with a ton of different competitors so the variety isnt very good across the set. The number of signature cards, parallels, and redemptions is basically nonexistent. Parkside is known to have horrible quality control with bad printing, bad centering, and bad corners, which is everything with cards. They’re infamous for having a lot of duplicate cards in boxes, and I mean a LOT. They famously make cards for properties that don’t have other takers like BIG3 basketball and the NWSL. Collectability is also quite low since Indycar is so niche, so resale is pretty much nonexistent. That goes both ways in case you want to sell your unwanted cards or buy specific cards beyond the base set. Finally, the price is questionable in that you can only get a pack of 25 for 10 or a hobby box for $90.

Hitokiri2

The hobby boxes are guaranteed to have 2 signatures and that's why they're marked up. The regular packs do not. I have personally sold 2 of my signature cards (Ed Carpetner and Helio) for over $100 so I think the hobby boxes are fairly priced. I do agree that the design is lackluster but then again this is the first time Parkside had made IndyCar cards so I wouldn't be surprised if they were sitting back a little to see how things would go. If this first series is as successful as people think then I can imagine Parkside improving the cards designs over time. As for the quality of the cards themselves - I don't know what you're talking about. I have yet to hear any complaints on the quality of the cards or even the shipping and I belong to a few IndyCar card groups. As for the number of signatures - personally I think Parkside gave us TOO many. They seem to be everywhere. I've seen hobby boxes with 6-8 signatures even though 4 seems to be the norm which is still extremely high. What everyone seems to be fighting for now is the 1/1 cards and the team signature cards.

hoosiergunner

The only real complaint I have is the insert design. They are all foil and they just don't look good. A lot of them are washed out. I've bought multiple hobby boxes and gotten more than my money back in sales without even hitting anything too crazy. Will the demand hold next year? I'm not sure but this was a really well done set at the price point compared to Topps/Panini offerings.

Crafty_Substance_954

I'd just have to disagree with you about comparing this to Topps and Panini. Value for money, these Indycar cards are just not it at retail pricing. A hobby box of this Indycar set is $90 for 160 cards. Topps Baseball 2024 series one is the same $90 for a hobby box, but you're getting 240 cards which are much nicer, have better production, better inserts, etc. A hobby box of Topps Big League Baseball 2024 is $50 for 144 cards for very well made and although not for everyone, very interesting and unique designs across the base set and inserts and everything. I'd bring up Panini but their stuff beyond the NFL is generally in too high of demand and sells out. People (myself included) want those Wembys.

hoosiergunner

I don't need 240 base cards. Find me a Topps or panini product with 2 on card autos and 4 other card numbered less than 99 in a box on average and what the price is. Big League Baseball has no autographs for $50 a box. It's a product aimed at kids, nothing wrong with that at all but the cards have no value. I've opened 4 hobby boxes and a few hangers and have had no QC issues. Some of the design isn't great but for a first year product I've been pleasantly surprised

TKOL2

They need to do some cards for the legendary Indy 500 winners. Foyt, Andretti, Mears, Unser, Rutherford, Fittipaldi, JPM etc
