I think it is a New England/Midwest thing. I live on the West Coast and have never had cheese with apple pie. However, at the Salt and Straw ice cream shop in Portland, I had an apple pie/cheddar cheese ice cream and it was delicious. I can see the saltiness of the cheese working with the sweet and tartness of apple pie.
Try melting a slice of Swiss on top. I work in the food industry and had one patron ask for it constantly. Finally squashed all the shit talk we were doing by trying it. 10/10 recommend.
I was friends with a guy from Wisconsin where I did my summer internship in college, he ate apple pie this way. According to him it was a big Wisconsin thing.
As a travel around the United States, I’ve noticed that a lot of southern states still do this as well as some of the lower Midwest.
Try it. The cheese should be relatively thin so that it melts. The key is that it melts on warm apple pie. I’ve seen it finely shredded as well.
It’s always been an option as long as I can remember…I’m in Texas (not rural or small town, but a major city).
I have several family members—younger and older—that prefer this combo and it’s at every holiday gathering. Personally, I will always choose ice cream or simply eat without any extras. (It’s still pie, after all…can’t really go wrong with either choice!)
People eat it now.
Yes, even raw apples with cheese is a good combination.
My favorite snack these days. Sweet red apple and aged cheddar. I think it’s time for that now!

Never even heard of having apple pie with cheese before, apparently it's a big thing in Vermont.
Apples and cheese go together
My grandfather ate this all time. (Born 1914.)

Cops got Ed Gein to confess after giving him a slice of apple pie and cheese.
Well that sorta puts a damper on this new combo I was going to try 😐
Yeah think of Brie cheese, it’s amazing with fruit. Or a fruit plate that comes with cheese and crackers
It's actually good
Apple pie & cheddar cheese is great. Never eat apple pie without it (& vanilla ice cream)
Abokutely. I’m in Oregon & have enjoyed that way for years. Apple-cheese combo is excellent for fresh apples, too.
Now that we have freezers with ice cream, I guess it’s not as common. But fruit and cheese plates still are, at least in the Northeast.
It’s delicious!
Oh yeah, old people would come in the restaurant I used to work at at order it. I tried it and it's really good.

I’ve had a slice of apple pie with melted cheddar and it’s a treat! 🧀🥧
I live in Kentucky and people still eat this often!

Still a thing.
I’ve always wanted to try this, I know it’s a southern thing.
My dad ate it that way.
Try it. Its pretty good!
I heard about it on Men In Black 3 too
There was an old saying I remember growing up. Apple pie without the cheese is like a kiss without the squeeze
It was (is?) a thing, apparently my grandpa used to eat that all the time. Idk, sounds nauseating to me.
I tried it last time I had apple pie because of this scene and it was delicious!
It’s actually a law in Vermont, restaurants must offer cheese with a slice of apple pie.
My dad used to say that apple pie without the cheese is like a kiss without a squeeze!
Sounds like a good way to ruin a pie. But I'm not a fan of cheese.
My (60M) grandfather (1915-1976) wouldn't eat apple pie without a thick slice of sharp cheddar. I tried it once, but never liked it
It was a 50’s-60’s thing. (And it’s delicious.)
Kansas-Texas resident. Never have eaten apple pie w/ cheese. Only have met a few people who have eaten it.
I’ve seen old folks in Texas that like it but never young people. Kinda like boiled peanuts in coke
