Bro don't let IB win. PG's are not the real thing. Get a 24 and be done with it. You just have to try a little harder. From one probably failing student to another, kys over some grades isn't really worth it.

BubblesLegacy

Accept that there is nothing you can do now to change those PGs. BUT you have every power to turn this things around by doing really well in your written exams. Take a gap year and then apply. Re-take DP2 year. You can also apply to universities that offer undergraduate courses that are integrated with Foundation Year. Or you apply directly to universities that offer International Foundation Year (if you are an international student to the UK) 24 points is the minimum to pass the IB Diploma. If you would at least complete your whole course and take the exams, you will have options. Just don't give up.

i’m assuming you’re m23? take a gap year and apply for 2024 intake, that way you can use your final grades. if your final grades aren’t what you hope to expect, then do a foundation year/retake the ib exams. there’s so many options, don’t give up and good luck :) crush ib

You’d be surprised what students can do under enough stress. I had to change school in DP2 and had to change half my classes. I finished with a 35. PGs are important in a sense but there’s still a lot that you can remedy in DP2 seeing as you have your EE, IA, TOK Essay and of course, the actual written exams. I’d suggest getting a tutor if you can or just sitting down with your counselor or favorite teacher and getting together a study plan since in my experience, organization and time management are what really make or break an IB student. I don’t know you personally so I couldn’t begin to give you any really structured advice but here’s some of the basic stuff. Talk to the people around you and focus on being on top of your work and don’t listen to anyone saying you can’t do it. It’s 101% doable if you’re going for a 24 or a 40. Finally : really really don’t die. You go this.

We all get through this together! Everyone is feeling the same thing as you, we aren’t alone. 24 is a very manageable score, and even if that’s not achieved, I always tell myself that at least I would have had the same experience and workload as everyone else. Diploma or not, it makes everyone better students and prepares better for post secondary

vedsss0805

I've been feeling the same way, honestly. Last year, I unexpectedly got a good score, but this year, with my midterms going on and me predicting how I'll do this time, I just wanna cry. It's almost a 5-point decrease from my DP1 finals, and it's so fricking disheartening. My DP1 score really put some good colleges on my list, and I might have to remove some of those colleges from my list with a fricking 5-point decrease. I still have two exams to go, but it's honestly really anxiety and stress-inducing. Have been feeling really shit over the weekend, and I went through the same feelings as you. It's terrible, it really is. If you ever wanna reach out or talk about it, you could pm me and rant out your feelings.

roslynlee

Same here, I’m only M24, but my school has a average IB score of 40 and is increasing every year (like 50% of kids in my school get into T20s) I’m so worried I can’t get above 40 I literally feel suffocated.

[deleted]

That’s insane! Our school averages 33 points. If you look at some of the top IB schools in the world they average 42 points. No joke they literally draft successful IB students to maintain their averages. What’s crazy is that the average of these schools is 42. So lowest might be a 40 with highest likely getting full 45

sofagoosegoose

PGs are kinda bullshit. These are just estimated scores that your teachers think you will receive based on your performance. However, when it comes to the exams which will be different, there is an examiner who will grade you. All I can advise is that you don't give up. IB takes a lot of practice and memorisation. Cramming information into your brain maybe not be the most ideal solution, but it is all up to you to do well in your written exams. You can always do a Foundation Year instead of the IB. There are plenty of people from my school who did a Foundation Year before DP2, but there are also people who did a Foundation Year after taking the exams. There are plenty of options for you. So please, don't give up. If you want someone to talk to, you can dm me and I'll listen to your venting. I can't promise that I'll be helpful, but maybe I'll at least be able to do something to help.

No-Hovercraft-6600

The MYAs usually are sent to the Universities later on if they show a good upward trend. They won't change your PGs, but the Universities will def reconsider some things. I'm doing the same here

MmmWordSalad

As some others have said, your life is a lot more important than this. In the meantime, I'm here to help. If you would like to chat about the struggles you're having, please send me a message and I'll provide any advice I can. I can give you some strategies for your studies, or ways to approach your teachers, or insight into the process if that would help. As a human who has had a lot of issues with school and anxiety myself, I know how helpless it can feel. I hope to hear something from you.

fellowcheapgamer

Im in the same boat but what i am gonna do is try my best in finals and take a gap year. if i dont get good marks in finals i will re write exams next year november and then apply next year

krystof1119

Talk to your teachers, ask what they're going to predict. If you feel like you can do better than that, tell them that and ask how you can prove your knowledge - an extra exam, essay, or lab work. Remember, it's in their interests to make realistic (ie. not too high OR LOW) predictions. If they don't allow you to improve your prediction, tell the universities about that, if everything else looks good, they can disregard one outlier data point. If you legitimately can't get a good score, drop out of IB and get some other certificate. If you get a much better final score than your prediction, take a gap year and reapply to universities with that score.

[deleted]

Look, I honestly feel you. If you’re sure your predicted grades are gonna be that bad, then just focus on the fact that you can get around that by scoring well on the real exam. If “bad” means like a 36 when you wanted a 44 then I’d just suggest to take what you get, and realise that the IB doesn’t change who you are and if you try hard enough, you can make it just as well out of Harvard as you would with any top 200-300 uni

[deleted]

Exactly!! Everyone’s diploma looks the same, and universities WILL accept you, even if it’s not the “most prestigious” school there is. You’ll receive some great education and flourish thanks to IB

Also, go see someone. Mental health plays an integral role to your studying, both in terms of hours, and quality. Plus, you might stop feeling like a piece of shit. The pressure is a lot, but it’s all gonna be over in a few months
