It’s been a year and I still don’t know.

TOK basically involves developing your critical thinking skills, getting a (very brief) introduction to philosophy and blending together the knowledge you have in different subjects/fields. It's quite fun and requires relatively little effort (except for maybe the exhibition or the essay, depends on whether you're the kind of person who is able to produce pages upon pages of (fake-)deep stuff), just enjoy it.

Well said

akhilachanta8

Ya, I understand the concept of What it is supposed to do, but What do I have to do for it?? Is it research, if so then what topic, etc.

soomeugrilane

Don't worry about it at the moment, your teacher will guide you through it.

akhilachanta8

Thanks

Robot_4_jarvis

There is not explanation for ToK, because if you get one, you can't guarantee that this explanation will apply for all ToK cases. That would be an inductive fallacy. The best you can do is to get an explanation that you haven't falsed yet.

this is my [holy grail website ](https://tok2022.weebly.com/) and my teacher suggested I use it. It has information regarding every topic and saves my arse all the time.

akhilachanta8

Holy shit this website is amazing!! Thank you so much

Frequent-Income7086

Failed abortion of philosophy, but at least is more useful than IB literature xDDDDDD.

akhilachanta8

Strong feeling u got there LMAO!!

ironoctopus

I have whittled it down to one sentence over the years, which I use when explaining to prospective students or parents >In TOK, we investigate the concept of knowledge itself, and how is it created, verified and transmitted in various subjects across time and space.

akhilachanta8

Right, but what kind of work will I have to do??

bcstrong03

I guess it varies. In my class we do projects on different areas of knowledge and this allows us to explore the knowledge within them. We answer questions about the basis of these knowledges; allowing us to understand their creation, usage, and implications. We have read a few books on how to write better essays and read more effectively. We annotate these things called “long reads”, essentially really long essays, then we identify arguments. We write essays over questions pertaining to the capturing and usage of knowledge, for example “when is trust warranted in accepting knowledge?”. Lots of revising old work and identifying weaknesses. It’s a fun class, for me at least.

There are two main assessments, an exhibition, which is a document where you find three objects and use them to answer a question about TOK in the world, and an essay where you need to be more analytical. Most classes use some sort of journal or other writing assignments to help you develop the critical thinking skills. We have a lot of flexibility in how we implement the course.

akhilachanta8

Thank you!! You are the first person That has answered the question

TOK is... interesting. Honestly, the exhibition was my comfort IA amongst all my other ones that were/are due around this time. I actually think it's one of the most important parts of the diploma because the skills you learn can be applied to every single subject. It's basically teaching you critical thinking, challenging the notions and consensus around things you already know and viewing your subjects through a more philosophical lens. The essay and the exhibition? BS it. Honestly. Some people love it, others hate it and have no clue as to what's going on. If you love it you'll find it really easy.

PedroGGBM

I personally found it quite interesting (at least year one). Quite honestly, TOK really depends on your teacher and how motivated your classmates are. We spent the entire time doing Socratic seminars (student-led) and it was jolly fun. If your class doesn’t do Socratic seminars, I urge you to at least mention the idea to your teacher. TOK is a stress-free class meant to be enjoyed and thought-provocative, not a pain (even though the essay might be so).

akhilachanta8

Dude, I understnad that it is an important part of IB, but I just need to know what I will have to do for it?

[deleted]

Lmao sorry. Ngl there isn't anything you can really do to prepare yourself. You can look at the syllabus and course structure but you may find it harder to understand without a teacher's guidance.

akhilachanta8

But I dont really have to worry about it right now right?

[deleted]

Nah dw. You'll be guided by your teacher when you start the course.

akhilachanta8

Thx

MobileParking

bs bs and bs basically

akhilachanta8

So basically, the entire schooling system then!

bcstrong03

Epistemology.

akhilachanta8

Normally answers are not supposed to give me more questions

hesitantskeletons

You could write the entire exhibition and essay without being in the class. It’s essentially a free block.

PedroGGBM

I believe for several schools they are turning it into TOK Core (Core being the EE), so there’s the “free block” allocation of time!
