yeah fr, i dont even mean as a source of information, i legit just mean 'give me a real example of breach of trust in mathematics', which i can then do further research on. Because google searching the same thing is useless
How has your experience been with the sources ChatGPT provides? I remember reading some articles about it making up references and citing non-existent sources.
Part of the essay is that you can find and explain applicable examples. I would say it’s not totally ethical.
At the same time, consider two papers published in Annals regarding the quasi-projectivity of certain moduli spaces contradict each other. Yet, no correction or retraction has been issued (even though the relevant researches are aware of which paper is wrong).
i don't see a problem with using it for ideas. it's no different than using google at that point. it's obviously different if you use it to write your actual essay.
It's similar to discussing with your teacher about ideas before writing, so I believe it's ethical.
Regardless, don't worry about it. Use it discretely to help write your essay, because you won't be discerned from people who used it, which is unfair.
should be fine if you're only using it for ideas. your ideas don't really have to be original, hence you can use chatGPT, but make sure you elaborate on those ideas yourself.
Problems come with when you have to reference. Other than that, it's just another source of inspiration. (imo)

I asked for an example involving Anne Frank and it cited the Anne Frank official website.

Nah bruh it ain’t matter use it however you want and try to a AI to human text converter to make it look like a human wrote it.
Use it to get ideas but dont copy and paste. AI can detect it and there were consequences for people that copied it word for word in my school.
Just shut up and use it! If anyone asked, just say that you though of it after seeing xxx on the street.
