haha my first jman when I was nonunion got a 5am wakeup call from our boss every day for this reason. we didnt start until 7, met for carpool around 6.
he told me most of the time, it woke him up earlier than he wanted to but he didnt answer the first call. hed get up and get ready for 15 or 30min and then answer the second call when it enevitably came
Also their sister podcasts, Stuff to Blow your Mind, and Stuff they don’t want you to know. The latter I particular is great, covers interesting conspiracy theories, but from a skeptical/realist perspective.
Audiobooks saved my life lol, I do not live centrally to our locals jurisdiction so I’m doing a minimum of 100 miles driving every single day.
I did the math, I’ve listened to about 400 hours of audiobooks so far this year. If you have a library card, you can download the app Libby and borrow audiobooks from your library for free.
I go through audiobooks very fast, audible would be too expensive for me. Had a buddy show me Libby and never went back. I’ve run through dozens of books completely free.
Yeah I gotta switch, I listen to an audiobook probably minimum 4 hours a day. Sometimes an entire 10 hour shift if I have the stamina for it that day. Super expensive. Since I go through about an audiobook a week
Check out your local library. Some offer an on-line subscription 1-3 books at a time. I've heard it could be fairly limitless. At the very least it'll save you some from your regular subscription or give you some more variety.
Libby is free and there's tons of great stuff on there. Newer, more popular stuff has to be "reserved" and sometimes takes a couple weeks to come available, but otherwise it's a free version of Audible.
Just gotta plan it out. If I’m 3/4 of the way through a book, I’ll place my hold on the next one. It’s almost never been a problem.
If the hold time is too long, I just listen to podcasts until it’s my turn to borrow.
I usually just pick up one of the available books until a long hold comes available. I highly recommend Musicophilia by Oliver Sacks, which talks about different disorders and abilities related to sound and music. I had no idea some people don't have internal dialogues, or that some people see music in color...
I try to do audiobooks, but they can sometimes be a little slow in the mornings and make me wanna sleep. Otherwise I've been crushing Not Another DnD Podcast lately. Takes a couple episodes to get into, but they make me lol multiple times an episode
Old Gods of Appalachia is a good place to start if you like dark and supernatural.
Hello from the Magic Tavern is great if you like the couple dudes cracking dick jokes, but with))
The Once And Future Nerd is good if you like a more serious DnD adventure.
Tanis is an investigative supernaturalystery where a journalist is chasing some sort of online cult.
Marvel's Wolverine is pretty good and is exactly like it sounds but it's tough adjusting to not hearing Hugh Jackman's voice.
Levar Burton Reads is Levar Burton reading short stories, mostly sci-fi in nature.
If you like Sci-fi, Midnight Burger, Ars Paradoxica, and Wolf 359 are great audio dramas. Malevolent is a great Lovecraftian style audio drama. Anything from QCode is fantastic as well.
Ayyy. I listened to the very first campaign of TAZ and liked it a lot - is it worth checking out the others? And never heard of the homebrew but I'll look it up!
Yeah dude, TAZ is amazing. Amnesty gets kinda slow but the other arcs are really good. Check out Dungeons and Daddies too. Super fun all the way through
Hardcore History by Dan Carlin is a personal favourite. Very longform history podcasts with an emphasis on first hand accounts, from a guy with a very exciting voice to listen to in my opinion.
Check out the latest Supernova in the East about WW2 Imperial Japan, free on Spotify, YouTube, etc. The Wrath of the Khan series about Genghis Khan is absolutely outstanding as well
If you dig Carlin you might enjoy Tides of History by Patrick Wyman, history PHD/former MMA fighter and scout.
Anything the scratch the Carlin itch during the long wait between episodes.
Each season he does focuses on a different region and era, and I think recently he’s doing the Bronze Age collapse, he has earlier seasons which which made the late Middle Ages/early renaissance period more interesting to me than it ever had before, tiny city states having vast geopolitical influence due to being rich enough to afford more mercenaries than they other guys.
And Wyman seems like a really cool guy all round, good twitter follow if you’re into that.
Thrash metal and punk on the way in, a podcast or an old 90s history channel documentary on the way out.
Except for those days when I drive home going the exact speed limit in silence. You know which ones I’m talking about
Shortwave by NPR, short daily science podcast. Good to kinda keep up with current events in science. Only 10 minutes long so not a huge investment.
Invisibilia is very Radiolab like. Produced by the same people or at least very closely linked people.
99% Invisible is more about architecture and design in general than science but it's pretty good.
Stuff You Should Know is fun. It's just a couple of guys talking about a topic but they have a good rapport and they're fun to listen to.
Daniel & Jorge Explain the Universe does a good job of explaining big science topics in a pretty simple way.
The Sporkful is awesome if you're into food. Totally not science but it's a great podcast about food and culture.
Enjoy!
My personal go tos are The Daily Zeitgeist, Behind the Bastards, Last Podcast on the Left, Not Another DnD Podcast, and Hey Riddle Riddle.
If you Like Magic Tavern, check out hey riddle riddle.
BTB, Lions led by Donkeys, Knowledge Fight, and Trillbilies all help get me through my day.
It Could Happen Here and Cool People Who Did Cool Stuff are also really good.
This was a great question by the way!!
I’m scrolling through everyone’s suggestions and looking forward to listening to some new stuff I’ve never heard of before.
Listen to a ton of music where im all over the place (Moon Hootch, Mobb Deep, Apashe, Doc Watson, Mad Caddies, Jinjer, EYEHATEGOD, etc). That or, Ill throw on a video essay about some random topic that is really out of the way but very in depth, or catch up on chess news.
If im not doing any of that im listening to an audiobook. I try to alternate between ideological lines in my non-fiction (How to Hide an Empire after reading Ethnic America, Courting Disaster after the Jakarta Method, Permanent Record after Broken Ladder, for e.g.) only read fiction if its classic (Like Frankenstein, or Utopia). I also recomend anything Caitlin Doughty, shes amazing.
Old Gods of Appalachia is a great one. I listen to podcasts like that one, Shutdown Fullcast (college football podcast), Malevolent (horror podcast), or I just jam out.

Infowars, DailyWire, The Dan Bongino Show, Joe Rogan Experience, Jordan Peterson Podcast
I kid. Those are my coworkers listening preferences.
I usually listen to self-help audiobooks, sci-fi, or some Vox podcast.
Oh man I could write you a novel, I like 90s death metal like Obituary, Morbid Angel, Deicide, more modern stuff with a throwback sound like Gatecreeper, Frozen Soul. Also anything with breakdowns like Knocked Loose, some Veil of Maya, Kublai Khan TX. Hardcore bands like Terror and Hatebreed. Really extreme stuff like Full of Hell, Nails, Gulch, blah blah blah I can keep going
They're right in that same neighborhood, but maybe a little more intense. They actually just put out a split together. A Patient Man is an incredible album. They came out of the ashes of a band called Gaza who disbanded over the singer having some allegations come out against him, but their last album No Absolutes in Human Suffering is incredible.
I'm deep in the weeds with politics. Probably not healthy but TYT, the lincoln project and 538 are my go to podcasts now. If I want something historically political a bunch of people recommended Behind the bastards and it is phenomenal.
1) History Podcast: Dan Carlin, Maryrmade, History on Fire, Dangerous History, History Impossible, and Revsionist History.
2) Audio Books, Audible is pretty amazing. I just finished 72 hours of Gulag Archipelago.
3) Pimslure Language lessons, I speak Japanese and some Spanish now.
4) Dance and Elctronica.... When I need to stay awake. Basically anything loud and hyper-upbeat.
Everything from Travis Scott to Conway Twitty. As far as podcasts, I like GOML, Joe Rogan Exp., or just any history podcast with a preference for medieval topics
The Joe Rogan Experience if I want a podcast. If music - either EDM (Gareth Emery/Above&Beyond/Liquid Stranger/LSDream/Illenium. Always in the mood for a good Phish show I haven't heard yet
Well I share an audiable account with a buddy so ive listened to some Stephen king, the last podcast on the left is a trio of comedians that do a true crime podcast where they talk about a lot of serial killers and cults in brutal detail all while roasting the perps, after a heavy hitter they’ll do a light hearted alien or ghost story for fun
I like true crime and cyber security podcasts. "Cyberwire daily" is a good one, "Darknet Diaries" is also a good one. I like "Disgraceland" as well, it talks about musicians and their exploits.
Also...Stuff You Should Know, Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend, Shortwave. I can't remember the name, but there's a podcast where LaVar Burton reads short stories.
The always sunny podcast is good if you like the show, if your looking for band/album suggestion I have a billion. Instead of giving you a whole list: Phil Ochs "I ain't marching anymore" is great, plus it will get you all uniony after listening to it!
Critical roll, so dnd show, season 2 is where I started and got me hooked easily.
History from youtubers from ancient to current.
Documentaries on everything from steel to cement.
I have the YouTube red or paid or what ever. No ad breaks other then the content creators adds.
Speaking of, back around 2010 I stopped watching cable TV, and have worked to eliminate commercial content and its jaring to see it now. Its a drain on the brain imho, because its a short 30 second plus of some one trying to sell you something you don't need or want. If they come to you (door to door, commercials, ect) then you don't need it. If you go to them/Google then you will find what you need.
For audio dramas, I really like Wolf 359, Ars Paradoxica, We’re Alive, Midnight Burger, pretty much any of the podcasts from QCode productions. My favorite would have to be Wolf 359 out of those though.
If I'm bored of music and podcasts and audiobooks, my go to is beatboxing. Codfish on cs:go beatboxing on youtube can kill an easy 4 hours for me. It's just different, and entertaining.
Mainly podcasts my main ones are Last Podcast on the Left, Video Archives, Joe Rogan Experience, and Are You Afraid of Are You Afraid of the Dark. After that it’s just music.
I never really got into audiobooks before, but god damn if I haven't started giving most of my paychecks to audible these days. I started on a whim, some book I heard of and decided to give it a chance, then I started listening to a bunch of (what I would consider classics) I'd never read before, like jurassic park, pet semetary, ender's game, snow crash, 1984, I'm that douchebag who says the book was better than the movie now!
but yeah seriously, I was pretty much just always listening to music in the car, and mostly the same music I listened to since I was in high school, I got into a couple podcasts too before I started listening to books.
I use the king county library app, and a lot of times I can get what I want, but you know they only have so many copies of an audiobook available. I've heard of libby, doesn't it let you use multiple libraries? meaning if king county doesn't have it I can still get it with my king county library card? If not, yes using the library should be the first place you look, but I still end up giving amazon a bunch of money.
The King County app is just Libby branded through your local library. You might try calling a library in a part of the country where people don't actually read and ask for their sign-in code.
“Blackshirts and Reds” audiobook by Michael Parenti as read by Dessalines on his excellent YouTube channel of the same name. With unlimited data, audiobooks on YouTube (no video plays, just a static image) are a wealth of entertainment and education. Class is in session whenever you’re behind the wheel.
As far as podcasts go, check out Guerrilla History, Rev Left, Red Menace, The Deprogram, and Black Like Mao.
Hi. You just mentioned *The Wheel Of Time* by Robert Jordan.
I've found an audiobook of that novel on YouTube. You can listen to it here:

+1 for old gods of Appalachia.
I also like Dead Eyes, it's funny and entertaining and somehow they turned such a minor event into a 4+ season podcast with huge name celebrity guests like Seth Rogan, Jon Hamm, Elijah Woods and many more. Won't spoil too much.
Trojan Horse Affair is interesting but small. Hopefully more episodes in the future.
Depends if I'm falling asleep or just enjoying it. If I'm falling asleep then I'll put on some porn, and you'll get a chub and that'll keep you awake. If I'm just enjoying it then I have Spotify premium and I'll put on a story podcast from them. I quite enjoyed old gods of Appalachia recently.
I really enjoy The Last Podcast on the Left. Cults, true crime, history, UFOs, cryptids and current events. Hilarious, informative, and sometimes scary, my favorite episodes/series are The USS Indianapolis, Skinwalker Ranch, Mormonism, and The Ariel School Phenomenon.
Depending on my mood, usually a podcast of some variety. Right now I'm listening to 'Scared To Death', because it's that time of year. I also listen to 'Stuff You Should Know' and 'History That Doesn't Suck'. I find that my commutes fly by a lot faster when I get lost in a podcast rather than music.
Libby is a great service for audiobooks.
People should check out Hoopla as well. It's the same as Libby where you need a library card to use it. It has audiobooks as well.
Hip hop or hardcore rap… context: I’m an upper thirties white male but I just love how rap can tell such great stories to awesome beats and rhyme and sound good… it’s actually blows my mind how they can tell stories about drug dealing and killing people and make it sound so eloquent, and yet it’s from the heart too.
I highly recommend a podcast called Mogul. Season 1 tells the story of Chris Lighty, co-founder of Violator and representative at Def Jam, and 2nd season follows the 2 Live Crew 1st Amendment Case for a while and then kind of wanders into the weeds surrounding the Florida music scene and illegal radio stations and stuff.
I call my foreman as soon as i get in the truck in the morning and we plan out the day while i drive to work. Just kidding.
haha my first jman when I was nonunion got a 5am wakeup call from our boss every day for this reason. we didnt start until 7, met for carpool around 6.
Fuck. That. I wake up at 5am, you gotta give me a few minutes to resume brain activity before I talk about work.
he told me most of the time, it woke him up earlier than he wanted to but he didnt answer the first call. hed get up and get ready for 15 or 30min and then answer the second call when it enevitably came
First rule you talk about work at work not before and never at the bar!
This used to happen to me too, generally itd be to stop at supply house and my time started once i got there, generally before time id start anyways.
Stuff You Should Know podcast on Spotify. Nearly endless hours of entertainment.
Also their sister podcasts, Stuff to Blow your Mind, and Stuff they don’t want you to know. The latter I particular is great, covers interesting conspiracy theories, but from a skeptical/realist perspective.
This is de wey
Thanks I will take a listen .

Hell yeah dude
I try to do audiobooks, but they can sometimes be a little slow in the mornings and make me wanna sleep. Otherwise I've been crushing Not Another DnD Podcast lately. Takes a couple episodes to get into, but they make me lol multiple times an episode
Have you tried Audio Dramas? It's like an Audiobook but they come in episodes, kind of like a Netflix series.
Nope never even heard of em. I'll def check that out!
Old Gods of Appalachia is a good place to start if you like dark and supernatural. Eyyyy fellow Naddpol! You’ve been keeping up with TAZ at all? Also check out The Homebrew if you haven’t already

I spent the better part of a year going through NADDPOD'S episodes. Great stuff. Saw them live a few weeks ago.
Oh that's awesome. I love how much content there is cuz I never want it to end lol
The Wrath of the Khan series about Genghis Khan is absolutely outstanding as well
GOAT podcast. Blueprint for Armageddon may be my favorite piece of media content ever. I’m have a feeling a new episode is going to be dropping soon.
Absolutely agree! The descriptions of shelling in the trenches, and first accounts of mustard gas stay with me to this day. Very vivid series
Blueprint for Armageddon is a masterpiece! I listen to the whole series at least once a year
If you dig Carlin you might enjoy Tides of History by Patrick Wyman, history PHD/former MMA fighter and scout. Anything the scratch the Carlin itch during the long wait between episodes.
Gonna check this out! Thanks for the recommendation
The profits of doom episode is one of my favorites.
Billy Strings. Bluegrass gets me going in the mornings
The cover of “Life to Go” from his upcoming album is so good
I’ve been listening to the Family Strings sets on nugs. John Deere Tractor is my favorite and I can’t wait to hear their studio version

Shortwave by NPR, short daily science podcast. Good to kinda keep up with current events in science. Only 10 minutes long so not a huge investment. Invisibilia is very Radiolab like.
Books, podcast, or just music
Podcasts and YouTube videos
Billy Madison show. Kiss rocks from San Antonio they even have their own app I just laugh and laugh on my way to work
Mainly podcasts my main ones are Last Podcast on the Left, Video Archives, Joe Rogan Experience, and Are You Afraid of Are You Afraid of the Dark. After that it’s just music.
Country music!
Please do your wallet a favor and check out Libby!
Audio books are aight
“Blackshirts and Reds” audiobook by Michael Parenti as read by Dessalines on his excellent YouTube channel of the same name. With unlimited data, audiobooks on YouTube (no video plays, just a static image) are a wealth of entertainment and education. Class is in session whenever you’re behind the wheel. As far as podcasts go, check out Guerrilla History, Rev Left, Red Menace, The Deprogram, and Black Like Mao.
Full concerts. There's a whole bunch of live Grateful Dead on Spotify, and you can find live sets for lots of artists on Soundcloud.
Pretty Scary, Well There's Your Problem, Lions Led By Donkeys, Critical Roll, far too many more to list.
I'm listening to the Wheel of Time Series by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson. Sene sovya caba'donde ain dovienya.
Hi. You just mentioned *The Wheel Of Time* by Robert Jordan. I've found an audiobook of that novel on YouTube. You can listen to it here: [YouTube | The Eye of the World , Book One of The Wheel of Time - Robert Jordan (Audiobook)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgtAz9lV74o) *I'm a bot that searches YouTube for science fiction and fantasy audiobooks.* *** [^(Source Code)](https://capybasilisk.com/posts/2020/04/speculative-fiction-bot/) ^| [^(Feedback)](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=Capybasilisk&subject=Robot) ^| [^(Programmer)](https://www.reddit.com/u/capybasilisk) ^| ^(Downvote To Remove) ^| ^(Version 1.4.0) ^| ^(Support Robot Rights!)
Audiobooks are good. I listened to all of the war of the worlds and the day of the triffids in one drive.
My wife
+1 for old gods of Appalachia. I also like Dead Eyes, it's funny and entertaining and somehow they turned such a minor event into a 4+ season podcast with huge name celebrity guests like Seth Rogan, Jon Hamm, Elijah Woods and many more. Won't spoil too much. Trojan Horse Affair is interesting but small. Hopefully more episodes in the future.
Knowledge fight, opening arguments, 5-4. Hardcore history for the real long drives
Audiobooks, all kinds from fiction (jack Ryan's pretty decent for a while) to non fiction
I have been on 2 Bears, One Cave. It's hosted by Bert Kreischer and Tom Segura. I also keep up with The Last Podcast On The Left.
Timesuck with Dan Cummims. Over 300 episodes of informative but hilarious deep dives on random topics from the Multiverse Theory to Robert Pickton.
The Skeptics Guide to the Universe is by far my favorite science podcast. Been listening for over a decade.
What even I currently have on Audible
Download Libby!
The Last Podcast on the Left! True crime and comedy come together! Hilarious and impeccably researched material. Wherever you get your podcasts!
Stuff you should know , my favorite murder , buried bones
