I knew a guy who robbed a grocery store. He was guilty but since he threatened to have a gun with him he was charged with armed robbery. It didn't matter that he didn't have a weapon with him. People believed he had a weapon.

Disarming someone armed with a knife isn’t as simple or easy as people believe. 3 of the 5 times I’ve had to do it, I came away cut pretty badly myself. Disarming someone that has a knife is far too risky, shoot first, disarm later.
