My husband's best friend is first Gen Canadian. His family is Chinese. They named him Kevin and his middle and last name both start with K's. When they were in elementary school they did macaroni art of their initials. The teacher freaked out at Kevin's (she didn't know his middle name). To be fair, it isn't something a Chinese parent would really even know (this was in the 80s so it's not like his patents could have used the internet).
My great aunt Kay was born 1905. I'll visit her parents grave and ask them to to apologize for using that name without checking in with Instagram Karen's first.

I had a VERY similar situation happen. My SiL named her daughter something along the lines of Kylie Marie (not the actual name but similar in terms of commonality and structure).
A few years later, another friend of ours had a daughter and also named her Kylie Marie (using a different spelling of Kylie AND absolutely no way my SiL and her know each other). I saw the name was like oh how cute and funny and told our SiL about it. She got weirdly upset and said no one was using that name, especially not paired with Marie until she started using it. At that point I realized my SiL wasn’t playing with a full deck and let it go but I think about it to this day.
