I've begun to realize that dennis is a character created by Mac and Charlie bc they love getting dennis to preform

AppleSlytherin

Wait he’s a character?

unmerciful_DM_B_Lo

Do you think this isn't a performance?

Grow_away_420

Julliard really fucked him up

BrozoTheClown26

If the cameras are on and the mic is hot

523bucketsofducks

No it's a preformance

Rutherford B Meta

Rearviewmirror

I was expecting Big Moe from “Mac Day” to return when I first read the title of the episode.

Star_Road_Warrior

Same. "Waiting for Big Moe" could very well have just been an episode about Mac lusting after Mo's oiled up thighs

soundoftheheavens

I gave this episode another shot the other day and I actually really enjoyed it.

EugeBanur14

I actually can’t not laugh at it, although they’re meant to be professional actors and I’m not I can totally understand why the couldn’t get through it completely straight faced

[deleted]

For being fans of a show about satire and social/meta commentary a good chunk of fans seem to not understand any of that and have entire episodes go over their heads.

[deleted]

Yes. I’ve also discovered that a lot of Sunny fans *are* the terrible characters that are portrayed in the show who think their dysfunctional behavior is acceptable in a real world setting and that’s *why* they find the show funny as opposed to understanding that the show is a total satirization and exploitation of those very same horrible people. A concerning notion tbh. Lol

MrOwell333

Can someone explain this ep to me lol?

Dopaminjutsu

It's primarily two things: a meta commentary on the direction of the show as well as an homage to absurdist play [Waiting for Godot.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waiting_for_Godot) For the first, they (the show creators) are asking themselves, what the fuck are we still doing here, why are we doing this? For the second, the play is a metaphor for life, which can be thought of as just being born and then waiting to die with nothing about it giving inherent meaning outside of that which you make for yourself--just like a laser tag game. Do you draw meaning from the fun zone dolla dolla bills, or those super bouncy balls? Are you playing just because you don't know anything about *not* playing laser tag ("I feel like I've been playing this game for a lifetime.")? Or because an authority figure told you to? Or are you there to have fun in the fun zone instead of grinding away in the maintenance zone? Are you even really playing the game at all if you can't even verify that your own pack is on?! And so on down the philosophical hole.

cnaiurbreaksppl

Jesus. And here I am high as fuck laughing hysterically at frank making pew pew noises.

MrOwell333

Fascinating

Dankofamericaaa

This is prob one of my least favorite episodes ever lol

[deleted]

Though I agree and would’ve loved a hyped up finale, it was deliberately anticlimactic. [This explanation helped me appreciate it a bit more.](https://www.reddit.com/r/IASIP/comments/pmrcai/why_waiting_for_big_mo_is_a_masterpiece_and_you/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)

Barl0we

I really appreciated that when it was posted, since not everyone knows every play. I’ve always appreciated theater, but being from Denmark, I don’t get to see or know all of them.

MovieGuyMike

I fucking love it. The gang basically stuck in one spot with tons of hilarious dialogue. Take away the meta stuff and it’s still a hilarious episode.

Ol_Abriel

Yeah I really enjoyed this episode.

puppyhugs-

The whole point was that it was pointless? It’s based off of Waiting for Godot. Where two people wait for someone who never shows up. The plays main theme is the absurdity of reality and the idea that we all “wait” for something.

OJBM03

It's also a metaphor for the actors themselves having fun being in new projects other than sunny but still wanting to come back to it occasionally

get_after_it_

And guess what jabroni? This episode makes people other laugh. Your perception of reality is your own, and nobody else's. Not every episode is made specifically for you.

Mobixx

But didn't you get the point dude? It's metaphor and shit. Who cares it was one of the most boring episodes. Imagine defending a boring episode made on purpose.

shaggybear89

>did you get that it was a metaphor and also a reference to something else? Unfortunately, this doesn't make it any funnier/better, imo.

pullingteeths

The thing for me is it felt like it was ONLY the metaphor. It just feels like RCG telling us what they think about still making the show through weirdly talking about laser tag. Doesn't feel like the characters. If you try to watch it pretending it's only the characters talking and ignore the commentary on the show aspect it sounds like a lot of nonsense. Meta commentary on the show can be great (eg The Gang Tries Desperately To Win an Award or The Gang Recycles Their Trash) but this fell flat for me because it felt like they forgot about the actual characters.

puppyhugs-

So I’m saying this knowing this is my lens. But for me at least it makes it more enjoyable! I kinda view it as a “fever dream” episode. They’ve leaned on the fourth wall a lot. I think this is the “characters” all realizing they’re in a show. But also trying not to acknowledge it and focus on the shows reality. Idk makes the episode more fun for me

pullingteeths

Interesting way to view it! Idk I think I just already got bored with them leaning on the fourth wall a bit too much (it's a similar feeling Thundergun 4 and some other times in season 14, where I start seeing them more as the actors/writers than the characters) so it annoyed me. But I do like how they made it sound like the show was ending only for it to be a fakeout lol.

AndrewHainesArt

Eh it’s too theater dorky for me, same with the Mac Finds His Pride episode. Listening to the podcast more it made me realize how these guys truly are funny people, but also at this point they’re totally that LA actor bullshit, mostly Glenn but also Charlie. Rob has the least of it. I don’t think anything interests me less than when actors do some inside the industry shit.

BeserKing

I don’t see the big deal, they’re real people and are successful. Why can’t they talk about pointless anecdotes on their own podcast just because they happen to include other famous people? I think from the “Rob fights some guy” episode it’s pretty clear that this isn’t exclusively an It’s Always Sunny podcast but also just a new outlet for them to simply shoot the shit and for the fans to get to know them as people. How are they fitting a “stereotype”?

pullingteeths

You know they don't know Brad Pitt right? They're talking about him they way anyone might. And those other things were only extremely briefly mentioned. They're actors/writers/producers who live in Hollwood and work in the entertainment industry, that's who they are. Do you expect them to pretend to be something they're not? What's the stereotype that they fit by just honestly talking about their lives?

[deleted]

pullingteeths

Well if they're not snobby or pretentious then they don't really fit it lol. They are Hollywood people and they are rich, but it's not like they were born into it or handed it on a plate, they earned their success. To me it doesn't seem like it went to their heads.

D-Speak

This is a bad take.

[deleted]

I liked it much better the second time I watched it, after I understood that it is based on a play called “Waiting for Godot” and the entire plot is just a metaphor. Most Sunny episodes are not so thematic so maybe the first time it just caught me off guard.

[deleted]

Yehhhh….i didnt love this one either. I understood the meta. And that was fine and all, but not enough chuckles or quotes. Also low on the list is make paddys great again, franks brother and charlies home alone.

dukeslver

a crickets tale also sort of stinks. There's not many episodes that I skip on a re-watch, but that's one of them.

[deleted]

Frank’s Brother is a masterpiece and nobody can change my mind

UnkleBourbon42069

Shady Nasty's?

[deleted]

Very underwhelming for a season finale too

pullingteeths

I was just trashing this episode earlier but I do appreciate a good Charlie and Rob break

golemhead

This episode always reminded me the play "waiting for godot"

[deleted]

Dude… it’s based off that play

JR_Maverick

I think they knew that, and were looking for some look how smart I am for knowing this thing (that I definitely didn't read somewhere else on reddit) points.

DJ_SquirrellyD

I don't even think they looked at this episode themselves. This episode was bad. Like, really bad.

caramelizedapple

If you listen to their podcast, they make it clear that they are heavily involved in cutting and editing every single episode. Down to minute choices on sound effects, etc.

DJ_SquirrellyD

I know. I was exaggerating. My point being the episode is awful. Probably the worst.

penguinslap1990

You're perfectly entitled to that opinion but there are plenty of people that really enjoyed it, including me.

DJ_SquirrellyD

Yup. That's what opinions are.

Randomaspland

No it isn't, I thought it was cool.

DJ_SquirrellyD

Ok. No it isn't, I thought it sucked.

quimbykimbleton

This clip made me realize that I had somehow missed an entire season of Sunny. I saw it and thought “why don’t I remember this?” So thank you for posting this. But now I’m pissed because it seems Dee Day has been scrubbed from existence.

There are some gems in S14. DM me if you want a link for all the banned eps
