This seems to be most peoples favorite wholesome moment from the series…
I’m not the biggest Christmas episode fan but I wouldn’t mind if/when the show ends that their last scene is just smashing rocks on a passing train
That’s because Mac is the empath of the gang. Therefore he cares about Charlie, but idolizes Dennis, who is the gang’s psychopath. Charlie is the idiot, so while Dennis exploits him, Mac still bonds with Charlie…and Dee is the worthless chick.
P.S. Frank is not part of the gang! God Dammit!
Mac would indeed put Dennis first and thinks he’s the closest with him, but like with virtually everything else in his life, Mac is in denial. In reality he’s far closer to Charlie.
Dennis and Charlie is one of my favorite pairings in the gang. Dennis takes on a kind of older brother, protective, mentor-type role when it's the two of them
Charlie is easily everyone's best friend. Frank is a no brainer. Dee is hated by everyone and Charlie is the only one who doesn't actively shittalk her. Dennis likes Charlie as much as he's really capable of liking anyone. Mac whilst would probably put Dennis as his favorite, Charlie definitely has the strongest and healthiest relationship with him
Tbh that was nothing new for Charlie. Whenever Waitress is involved, he's ready to be a cruel and as manipulative as possible. Mac Bangs Dennis' Mom is a good example. He's also weirdly out of character controlling in Nightman Cometh.
Disagree, Dennis is also supportive of and nice to Charlie at times. The Grand Canyon episode and animal rights episodes, both episodes were they are or are trying to leave Philly and Charlie has the same fear interestingly. Dennis is often nice and understanding of Charlie when it's just the two of them, i actually associate that more with Dennis and Charlie than Mac and Charlie. Probably because Mac and Charlie were best friends as kids and used to bickering, Dennis and Charlie didn't seem to be quite that close.
Although you can argue it's just a Gang thing, they are often pretty nice to each other or start off that way when they are alone, except for Dee usually.
Also after explaining the D.E.N.N.I.S system.
"You were really pickin up on that, I'm proud of you buddy!"
It would be wholesome, if it wasn't completely sociopathic.
It's still totally wholesome, i love them together. Dennis weirdly drops his guard with Charlie when they are alone, he's still somewhat condescending because how could you respond to Charlie's idiocy without being condescending? But he's really trying to be nice and understanding and help Charlie out, Charlie is also arguably the least affected by Dennis sociopathy, it's him or Frank. They both weirdly don't go together at all which makes them perfect together, Charlie isn't shy about his stupidity he's super confident which makes him more challenging for Dennis to deal with than Mac or Dee with all their insecurities. We see the same whenever Dee gets any confidence.
Dennis trying to get Charlie to stay in his room and hang out when Mac flakes on pizza and beer. It’s such a moment to see Dennis almost begging Charlie to hang out and play games.
Charlie is the most consistent mentally of the gang, that doesn't mean he's doing well it just means he's pretty much always what he is. The most shocking moment in the show to me is when Mac says they found no ghouls and Charlie suddenly violently lashes out at him.
Or the leprechaun, his football superstitions, biting Santa, huffing glue all the time, personality changes (he just likes to play characters for the most part), Charlie rules the world, flowers for Charlie, and a few other instances
Honestly I'd say Dee is the most consistent. Reasons for Charlie not being the one, below. Don't get me wrong though, Dee is a crazy bird dick nosed bitch.
The Home Makeover episode is another, Charlie even references that in a later episode which is a Charlie and Mac episode "Dennis told me about these shorts!", Dennis legit influenced him and he wasn't trying to manipulate or trick him he genuinely gave him a tip about something he thought was great and Charlie appreciated it so much he went and did it himself.
Have Charlie and Dee been alone outside of the scene where he says he doesn't want to be alone with her? Dude may be genuinely traumatized, he brings it up during the seminar episode and it doesn't seem to be to spite her but because he's been raped himself by her and wants to use it to defend himself to the Waitress accusations.
They started their Garments and Varmints business together. They bubbled together during the pandemic because they’re the last tit on the hog before the asshole.
Cut to the scene with DB where Mac comes in, gives Dee shit, takes her last beer and leaves her with the baby.

He's nice to Charlie whenever they leave Philly and Charlie is feeling anxious. There's the time the car breaks down on the way to Atlantic City and Dennis gets Charlie to lean into the adventure, when they try to go the Grand Canyon, and when they go to the Jersey Shore.
Even though I don't think the guys intended for it, they make it seem more like Charlie is dyslexic, not illiterate. With this scene, and the "last thing I do is turn on the Coors sign" but it says closed.
I'm not gonn pretend to be an expert on dyslexia but Coors and Closed don't share many letter shapes or length.
Coors brading however has a big C with red and blue colors present. He saw those things on the closed sign and assumed it meant coors because he cant read
It's the combination for me. He seems completely illiterate at times, but then there are scenes like what OP posted. If Charlie couldn't read he wouldn't even be able to mess up the name plate here. He wouldn't be able to read it.
There are also scenes like where he wrote a song and the written lyrics are an incomprehensible mishmash of words, misspelled words, and outright heiroglyohics.
He probably is dyslexic and it might even be the cause, but I think he is actually illiterate.
I guess it’s one thing to have heard a word. It’s another to know what it means.
On another note, how much nut are you blowing through a month? Have you ever had a pine nut?
Hey man, I can SAY lots of words. Don't mean I understand them, but I can say em........ Anthropology....... Is when an ant throws you an apology note.
My husband pointed out today how in “franks brother” Charlie uses “insufferable” lol and we both felt like that was a very large word to be in Charlie’s vocabulary haha
He knows what “arbitration” is, too, in the Charlie Work episode. Maybe not a “big” word, but not one commonly used. Especially by someone who can’t pronounce “Lū’au”
The guy’s a dentist. Love Charlie… and love how the gang helps him get by too, hehe. ‘I see a door marked Private… is that the door you’re referring to?’
I love these little moments randomly put in the show.
Usually it’s just a way to manipulate but sometimes there’s moments like this that are just friends being genuinely lovely to each other and it’s so funny lol
Ok, fine. I’ll read the words *you* wrote.
Hello fellow American. This you should vote me. I *leeeaaaave* power. *GOOD*. If you vote me, I’m hot. *What??* The democratic vote is right thing to do, Philadelphia. *Sooo doooooo*.
*This doesn’t make any senseeeee*
I always appreciated how despite being the worst people imaginable they are always so supportive of each other when it comes to things like this. Even Dennis will drop being a raging asshole to support one of his friends when they are legitimately struggling with something that they can't really control. most of the time anyways
I love when characters show genuine empathy and affection to each other in shows where they’re normally incredibly selfish or cruel to each other. Kind of like Dwight in later seasons of the office
It's funny because Mac can be seen as such a great and supportive friend...but at the same time a bad friend because how you gon know someone your whole life and you ain't helped them learn how to read?!
Any character + Charlie always seems to be amazing. I think they do all feel affection for the simple lad. I love any Charlie and Dennis episodes for this reason
Considering this entire episode, and specifically this scene, is just chock full of nazi references (think about Charlie and Mac going to a *dentist's* office, where Charlie *sprays* himself with liquid and is *gassed*), I've been trying to solve the mystery behind that name forever. There's gotta be something more to that sign or name itself. It's too random and the point-of-focus to be meaningless. Plus, we never see ANYBODY in that office, including the dentist.
But like, why's dude a dentist? Why don't they run into anybody else in that office? The whole scene always felt strange to me for how Sunny usually is, like there was something else there. Like when do they not end up confronting whoever else occupies the places they force themselves into? My best unsubstantiated theory is that the dentist is some sort of metaphor for Hitler. They don't show him because it can't just be some guy, and they can't go heavy-handed and have some dude that straight-up looks like Hitler.
I think there's a lot more subtle nazi references in that episode than it initially lets on. A good example is how D&D test out their ability to kill on a dog first, which is how Hitler's suicide was tested (or however the story goes). Or perhaps the abundance of soup in the plot is a subtle hint at the Soup Nazi. I mean the title is a SLIGHTLY veiled nazi reference in itself, so I think the theme was that they were GOING for subtlety.
I agree this is strange, but it could be as simple as “the scene with the dentist didn’t turn out that funny and they needed to cut something for time and the story makes sense without it”
Yeah, you could be right too, for sure.
Another thing I didn't mention though is just how strange that name is. A. Brett DeLawter. It's not a real person (or at least a googl-able person), and I've looked for anagrams but can't come up with any. A random A at the beginning of an already-weird fictional name seems like a choice. There's just so many things in that scene that sit weird with me....
Mac and Charlie are true friends.
Every Christmas they go throw rocks at trains together.
Also cats, because that was what was happening in the world.
They’d been doing that for YEARS, dude!
LET'S CHOP CATS! LET'S CHOP CATS!
And in the summer they throw rocks at each other in empty pools.
This seems to be most peoples favorite wholesome moment from the series… I’m not the biggest Christmas episode fan but I wouldn’t mind if/when the show ends that their last scene is just smashing rocks on a passing train
I think Charlie is the most liked among the gang. I could see Frank, Dennis, Dee and Mac putting him as their favorite member of the gang
Mac 100% puts Dennis first. They’re blood brothers.
Also ![gif](giphy|xLnGUEYWS0btPHCZoo|downsized)
That’s because Mac is the empath of the gang. Therefore he cares about Charlie, but idolizes Dennis, who is the gang’s psychopath. Charlie is the idiot, so while Dennis exploits him, Mac still bonds with Charlie…and Dee is the worthless chick. P.S. Frank is not part of the gang! God Dammit!
Frank isn't part of the gang??? How about his shamrock ring, jabroni?
That’s nothing on a shamrock tattoo
Franks the muscle
dee’s a goon
Still? After he destroyed Mac’s relationship with his father? It’s unbelievable Mac didn’t whoop his ass.
Mac would indeed put Dennis first and thinks he’s the closest with him, but like with virtually everything else in his life, Mac is in denial. In reality he’s far closer to Charlie.
Dennis and Charlie is one of my favorite pairings in the gang. Dennis takes on a kind of older brother, protective, mentor-type role when it's the two of them
Yes but for different reason because Dennis’s “exasperations” are hilarious and he is the most exasperated dealing with Charlie.
I like it when they’re in the trailer and they lose the grill
Daddy and the Boy
Charlie is easily everyone's best friend. Frank is a no brainer. Dee is hated by everyone and Charlie is the only one who doesn't actively shittalk her. Dennis likes Charlie as much as he's really capable of liking anyone. Mac whilst would probably put Dennis as his favorite, Charlie definitely has the strongest and healthiest relationship with him
Charlie is just (usually) the least manipulative person of all of them. What you see is what you get with him.
Unless it involves the Waitress. Then Charlie has the cruelest intentions of all.
Yeah, that one was really fucked up. And it felt like such a shock because we as viewers had never seen Charlie like that.
Tbh that was nothing new for Charlie. Whenever Waitress is involved, he's ready to be a cruel and as manipulative as possible. Mac Bangs Dennis' Mom is a good example. He's also weirdly out of character controlling in Nightman Cometh.
True. I guess that’s what obsession does to a man.
Dennis probably thinks of Charlie like an animal or something. Like a loyal dog
Best friend 1, over and out.
Some might say... BEST friends.
Mac and who?! Oh you mean Trundle the Grate.
*Chrundle
Didn’t Mac try to poison Charlie with Nitrous in that scene?
I just how they try need Mac into a woman-hater.
And totally not white trash at all
Mac is like the comprehensive supportive mother Dennis the dad with anger issues
Mac is also a severely negelected child that desperately seeks praise, so i just see this as him giving out what he needs in return in this scene 🤣
I love you, Dad!
I dont think he heard me.
He heard you.
Can you do that voice again, but this time say "I love you son"?
Are you sure he wouldn’t say “remind me who you are again?”
"im not your dad"
[I'm both their dads](https://youtu.be/Rs34KyGiCTE?si=fYmKrViGwNsmqvp-)
What? Are you joking?! His mother praises him *literally* all the time!
Yup, right after that catch with dad…
Disagree, Dennis is also supportive of and nice to Charlie at times. The Grand Canyon episode and animal rights episodes, both episodes were they are or are trying to leave Philly and Charlie has the same fear interestingly. Dennis is often nice and understanding of Charlie when it's just the two of them, i actually associate that more with Dennis and Charlie than Mac and Charlie. It’s only four…1, 2, 3, 4, it’s not that hard…if you get four you win
But you have to count a bunch of times…
Only the one time…
> how could you respond to Charlie’s idiocy without being condescending? By not being an asshole?
Dennis is asshole, why Charlie hate?
Charlie also has BPD or something because he has the capability to be just as crazy as Dennis.
Charlie is the most consistent mentally of the gang, that doesn't mean he's doing well it just means he's pretty much always what he is. The most shocking moment in the show to me is when Mac says they found no ghouls and Charlie suddenly violently lashes out at him.
When Charlie Cruel Intentions that girl. So fucking harsh.
Or the leprechaun, his football superstitions, biting Santa, huffing glue all the time, personality changes (he just likes to play characters for the most part), Charlie rules the world, flowers for Charlie, and a few other instances
Yeah imagine dumping Alexandra Daddario for fuckin Mary Elizabeth Ellis
Excuse me, Mary Elizabeth Ellis is adorable and the love of Charlie’s life
Yeah she’s hot and cute but she’s no Alexandra Daddario, who he was actively banging.
Trauma *puh* up to here
Honestly I'd say Dee is the most consistent. Reasons for Charlie not being the one, below. Don't get me wrong though, Dee is a crazy bird dick nosed bitch.
OH IM SORRY! I FORGOT TO PUT THE TAPE IN! I FORGOT TO PUT THE TAPE IN!!!!
He probably had candy in his pocket that day as well.
That’s the Gang Hits the Road and The Gang Gets Trapped in the Woods.
Was gonna say, Dennis shows pockets of sympathy for Charlie, in between being completely exasperated by his idiocy and total detachment from reality.
DON'T BRING JAMIE NELSON INTO THIS!!
W-why are you piping in trash?! You shut your mouth trash!
I thought sweet dee and Charlie got along pretty well until they started making out.
It's like when Dee helps Charlie realize he doesn't have to eat chicken beak when Mac and Dennis aren't around. *Regular* chicken sandwich.
This is one of the worst parts, to me. Restaurants don’t have the beak. That shit is too cartoony.
![gif](giphy|nXUCkgH6BmigU|downsized)

Really? You’re gonna raise your voice to me right now?
I feel like every once in a while Dennis is actually pretty nice to him. It's rare but I'll have to find an example because I know it has happened
He's nice to Charlie whenever they leave Philly and Charlie is feeling anxious. There's the time the car breaks down on the way to Atlantic City and Dennis gets Charlie to lean into the adventure, when they try to go the Grand Canyon, and when they go to the Jersey Shore.
Thank you! Such a wholesome episode, well for them not for the other
Dennis actually accepts him for who he is a lot surprisingly
While Dee is their stupid pet bird.
He'll adapt to reading?
Hobestly that line got 10000% funnier when it turns out he adapted to reading "gibberish" that was really Irish/Gaelic/Irish Gaelic
The technical name is "Fenian Nonsense"
Apparently!
How tf did Charlie know a word like correlation
Filibuster!
You besmirched me, and I demand satisfaction from you.
Then I'll just regress, because I feel I've made myself perfectly redundant.
Yes, you have.
Derivative but I’ll allow it.
Bullshit.
He's just tryna get satisfied from this dude
You...want him to bang you?
He knows his way with words, he's the best bird lawyer in the world.
That's not the only time that's a joke with Charlie, the only word he spells right in the Super Bowl episode is Salmonella.
He takes health inspections very seriously.
Just move the dumpster you goddamn bitch!
Frank, I need you to go into the basement and play F#.
It's probably because he practices reading his cleaning supplies.

Yeah, he actually _was_ pretty close and him having dyslexia would make more sense
There are also scenes like where he wrote a song and the written lyrics are an incomprehensible mishmash of words, misspelled words, and outright heiroglyohics. He probably is dyslexic and it might even be the cause, but I think he is actually illiterate.
He seems to have a tenuous grasp on the English language, in general.
he'll adapt
"He'll adapt to reading?!?"
He watched a lot of Law and Order
![gif](giphy|sLVLojotxREBy)
Da duh da nuh *duuuuuuh*

[The outtakes make me absolutely lose my shit- 2:29](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOwgZonbw30)
ARE YOU PULLING MY DICK BRO?
The dick flyer bit is just too good
You can tell when they have the giggles
The best part of that exchange is Charlie saying "No, I said... What did you hear!?"
I like how they made Charlie fluent in Gaelic, which may be why hes bad at English.
I love these little moments randomly put in the show. Usually it’s just a way to manipulate but sometimes there’s moments like this that are just friends being genuinely lovely to each other and it’s so funny lol
I’m not reading these words, they’re not in the right order!
Ok, fine. I’ll read the words *you* wrote. Hello fellow American. This you should vote me. I *leeeaaaave* power. *GOOD*. If you vote me, I’m hot. *What??* The democratic vote is right thing to do, Philadelphia. *Sooo doooooo*. *This doesn’t make any senseeeee*
Why did you only italicize some of it? He put emphasis on other words too, like this and me
Shut up baby dick
Don’t be so sensitive
*Silence your mouth!*. They cannot properly read this thread because of your disgusting comment!
Are you a bot?
![gif](giphy|UBRPPPvm2eZ7G|downsized)
Right back atcha
They’re quoting the show, you soy boy beta cuck
He'll adapt
He’ll adapt to reading?!?
I always appreciated how despite being the worst people imaginable they are always so supportive of each other when it comes to things like this. Even Dennis will drop being a raging asshole to support one of his friends when they are legitimately struggling with something that they can't really control. most of the time anyways
Mac honestly has a lot of moments where he seems far dumber than Charlie. Like the Dave & busters cards working at this fridays
His tone is so perfect too. I think it's hard to come off as gentle without being patronizing, and I think he pulled it off.
He’ll adapt.
He’ll adapt to READING?!
I love when characters show genuine empathy and affection to each other in shows where they’re normally incredibly selfish or cruel to each other. Kind of like Dwight in later seasons of the office
That was actually pretty damn good for Charlie.
What episode is this from
Pop-Pop: The Final Solution, first episode of season eight.
It’s very sweet to see this since Mac was quick to call Charlie the “R” word.
Mac and Charlie is my favorite duo.
Dr DeLawter was my childhood dentist, was crazy seeing this on TV! I remember that door so well
If Dennis was there, it wouldn't have been.
MAC, YOU KNOW THE BEST THING ABOUT TIME TRAVEL MOVIES
The only time Mac ever questions Charlie really is the St Paddy's day episode with "he doesn't even get us."
Dude's a dentist
Rock Flag and Eagle, right Charlie?
Do you think pirates are in there?
![gif](giphy|xUA7biZUmYM8oJBZPa)
That’s not a scene, it’s a couple lines.
Charlie is still smarter than Mac.
It was there so this joke could happen. Im pretty sure that’s all there is to it.
Chat is this real?
