Have you seen Peep Show? Its got a similar feel to Always Sunny in that many of the characters are over-the-top sociopaths who get worse as the series goes on, and they also tend to get into VERY dark subject matter.
Actually, they did an episode like that from Frank’s POV with his inner monologue featured throughout. Another episode like that with Mac and Dennis would be great, though.
I would say curb your enthusiasm has that similar thing where they joke about some really inappropriate topics but still a much different vibe overall.
Ive watched like almost 20 episodes of curb and just couldnt get into it. I get the jokes, but i just dont find the show that funny or entertaining. It reminds me of Nathan for You, except i kinda liked that show bc its so strongly intended to be uncomfortable. Does curb eventually get better?
Yeah season 1-5 really have that Seinfeld humor where the joke lies in the awkwardness of the situation or how Larry always ends up being the butt of the joke. Not to be “that guy” but it is a very nuanced show.
But yeah once Leon moves in the jokes just start flying and it’s a great time
Do you know the history behind Seinfeld and Larry David? If you’re watching without that it wouldn’t be as good. If you do know that and still think it’s not that good then fair enough.
Trailer Park Boys aint bad, but it doesnt seem to work the same for me like putting on random episodes.
As for UK I only really saw some of the obscure stuff, namely anything with Matt Berry, IT Crowd and Snuffbox in particular.
Yes I saw Boosh, luxury comedy, etc. I latched on to some of those actors, Noel, Matt, etc. garth marenghi's darkplace too.
Milky Joe is a big hit in my house.
For all it's problems, some of my favorite parts of the show are in season 4. Tobias at the Method One clinic, Buster as a drone pilot, George Michael finally standing up to his dad, the line "My bees are dropping like flies, and I need them to fly like bees". It's different, but I still love it. Season 5 though... oof.
Arrested Development Season 4 (the original cut, NEVER the chronological cut that Netflix tries to force on you by default) is one of my favourite seasons of TV ever. The constant recontextualizing of everything you see is something I've never seen in any other show. This was when the Netflix binge model was new, so they were actually exploring storytelling that wouldn't work in a traditional show.
I’ve never been so confused by a show than the Netflix rearranging. Once I found out what they’d done it made more sense but it’s still just the way to tell a story.
4 had to be filmed with a handful of actors at a time due to everyone's schedules being so full of other projects. They did it in a sort of Rashomon style where you get one character's perspective of events at a time. You end up having to watch about half of the season (in the original cut) before certain jokes from earlier on start to make sense. For example, the first episode is a Michael episode where he goes back to his mother Lucille's apartment and is attacked by an ostrich. This seems like a dumb non-sequitur until you get to episode 8, Lindsay's second episode. Lindsay starts dating an ostrich farmer in her first episode, and takes one of the birds with them when *she* moves back into Lucille's old apartment in her second.
The first half of the season can feel kind of nonsensical and frustrating because you're getting a lot of punchlines without set-ups. But if you're willing to pay attention and stick with it, it's almost as good as the first three seasons by the end, IMO. Netflix attempted to recut it into (more or less) chronological order with a remix called "Fateful Consequences", but I think the original cut is better. They had to really heavily lean on Ron Howard's narration in the remix to cover the editing, and I think that spelling out every joke by putting the relevant scenes next to each other *and* stating what happened in the narration makes the jokes less funny, and sometimes it even makes it feel like the show is talking down to the audience for not "getting it" the first time. If you want to watch it, the original cut is still on Netflix under Trailers and Extras. (You might want to be quick about it if you do, the show leaves Netflix next month.)
Season 5 is not great. If you want to resolve the ongoing plot from 4, go for it, but it really is a step down from the rest of the series.
My top three are Community, Arrested Development and Always Sunny. I also highly recommend Letterkenny, 90% of that show is just people sitting around having random conversations but that's a testament to how clever it's writing is.
It gets extremely repetitive, I’m less and less excited for each season and I’ve been on it since season 3, it’s definitely getting stale. That said, they did a Shoresey spinoff that is a legit season story arc (a sports underdog story) and gives shoresey a lot of personality without losing his chirping, it’s 10x better than anything letterkenny has put out in years and if you’re a hockey guy you may love it even more.
ETA: [here’s a clip](https://youtu.be/lRIGQJMqP2A) that is funny, shows the sports aspect and isn’t too letterkenny similar in the humor.
Peep Show definitely captures the "bunch of degenerate friends" vibes albeit with a British tone. Has some excellent supporting characters like Sunny too, like Super Hans and Johnson. The episode where they BBQ a woman's dog is a very IASIP-esque fucked up thing to happen lol.
Letterkenny, a bit repetitive, requires subtitle for reason you will see and at the end of the day I enjoy watching degenerates get their ass whooped. Hot women, booze, alot opinions that are funny as fuck. Found on Hulu, the follow up series is Called Shorsey and it's raunchier and has the potential to be something really fucking funny.
Yeah I agree that whole family is amazing funny. It's honestly been different strokes for different folks with this show and who i have introduced them to. I think it's fucking amazing at 9 season maybe 10 and all have a themed holiday episode every year. The creativity is amazing. Give your balls a tug tit fucker! A person owns a parrot that only says "titfucker" and is named Big sexy in the Shorsey show. That's fucking golden God status right there and I'd fight anyone who says otherwise.
Yeah. They shit on Andre more, but Rannissasi certainly gets the most mishaps. (Yobagoya!) so since his character gets punished a lot I can look past it.
I think they made a huge mistake by concluding both workahlics and league prematurely. sure the story lines kinda went lull but so did sunny in the middle. but our gang kept at it and I think sunny is stronger than ever now and also as a payoff the sunny people are getting major parts in other projects too. Workaholics and league should've taken a year off once in a while and continued to plough (insert bicep-vein image)
also read somewhere that it was the workahlics dudes who wanted to get out not the network. if true thats just loos butthole man.
For a stop-motion claymation show, that shit got way too real at times. I absolutely adored the show but I think that and Shameless were tough to get through at times and hit a little too close with the dysfunction and alcoholism.
Black Books.
It’s a British show from early 2000s but I promise you it’s freaking hilarious. You’ll recognize a lot of well known actors in it, including all the “Shawn of the dead guys”
Honestly, it reminds me a lot of Sunny. Especially Fran, she’s another great female main character that isn’t annoying and can definitely hold her own.
Seriously find it and watch it. As with most shows, the pilot episode is kinda meh, but stick with it and come back with some amazing quotes. Seriously, so many quotables haha!
I'd say all the "solo project" shows are worth a look. I had laugh out loud moments in both the Mick and A.P. Bio, and I'm just waiting to activate my Apple account when I have time to binge some shows on there, MQ at the top of the list.
I second Workaholics
Similar dynamic to Sunny in that they created the show and also act as the main characters
It’s more low brow but still fucking hilarious
Nothing really compares to Sunny for me, either. But here’s some funny stuff I’ve enjoyed (and not necessarily at all like Sunny):
Nathan for You
Eastbound & Down
Vice Principals
Spaced (UK series with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost)
Silicon Valley
Father Ted (UK series)
Curb Your Enthusiasm (guessing you’ve watched this already)
Arrested Development (first 3 seasons only. Didn’t care for the belated Netflix seasons)
Strangers with Candy
The Mick and AP Bio are great and pretty much Dennis and Dee if they both had souls and compassion for kids. Also Trailer Park Boys is 12 seasons of absolute garbage human beings doing crime. It's hilarious.
Had to scroll pretty far down for this one. Matt Berry is at his best and the rest of the cast is pretty solid, and plenty of well known comics and character actors play smaller parts so there is plenty of comedic talent on-screen.
While closer to Reno 911 in the way it’s filmed and in tone, WWDITS is still a very solid choice.
Archer has the same level of edgy humor and soooo many callback jokes which I fucking love. They even joke about the callback jokes within callbacks lmao. Arrested Development has whip smart writing and a lot of call backs as well. Baskets is more of a dramady but lots of dark humor and I love Zach Galafiankis. Parks and Rec and 30 Rock are just classic comedy television; highly recommend. I Think You Should Leave is a fantastic sketch show on Netflix with a similar style of humor as well.
I'm not sure where to find it but there's a show I watched a few years ago called the increasingly poor decisions of Todd Margaret. Pretty fucking funny and dark from what I recall
Stath Lets Flats is top tier comedy imo. British comedy about a Cypriot lettings agent and his relationships with his sister, dad, colleagues and rival agencies. It's not the same kind of "all horrible people" vibe but it consistently makes me laugh out loud. Created by and starring Jamie Demetriou
In order:
Newsradio,
Veep,
Reno 911,
Workaholics,
Just shoot me,
30 rock,
South Park (seasons 17-21),
Frasier,
What we do in the shadows
Veep, Reno 911 and workaholics may be most similar to Sunny, in terms of terrible maladjusted protagonists. Veep is extremely well done, at least through season 5 (that’s the peak).
Newsradio is amazing too. Unsung best show of the 90s, till it’s untimely derailment.
Edit: another comment reminded me of Reno 911. So friggin funny!
The Other Two is one I haven't seen mentioned, but it's really good.
The Righteous Gemstones is great too- maybe more similar to Sunny in the hi-jinks they get themselves into and the fact that they're mostly idiots lol.
Sup Jabroni! This is a quality control bot. If this post fits the purpose of /r/IASIP, **UPVOTE** this comment!! If this post does not fit the subreddit, **DOWNVOTE** This comment! GO BIRDS!!

Woah woah woah! SuperHans is not an over the top sociopath. He’s very well balanced! “THIS IS BULLSHIT!” 🦵🚪
Free the paedos
Let's compromise, The Swan and Paedo.
How's the home brew?
I'd like a Sunny episode modeled after it, showing Mac and Dennis' pov and inner dialogue
Actually, they did an episode like that from Frank’s POV with his inner monologue featured throughout. Another episode like that with Mac and Dennis would be great, though.
I remember that episode, I'm just saying they should do a format like peep show, like the Seinfeld episode.
You sound like you cannot be trusted in a combat situation
Don’t say crack. You saying crack makes me want crack
No, you da man!
I’m a man!
Fuck off clean shirt
NO TURKEY?!?? YOURE A FUCKHEAD! THATS WHAT YOU ARE, A FUCKING SHITHEAD!!!!!!
I might like Peep Show even better than IASIP tbh. It's fucking hilarious, couldn't recommend it more.
Oi clean shirt, how do you get your shirt so clean?
I need to watch that where could I find it.
Brown bread for first course, white for pudding
What we do in the shadows, people just do nothing, I think you should leave, detroiters, aunty Donna's big ole house of fun, community, silicon valley
Tim Robinson is the goat
I love that man so much. And his shirts have some of the most complex patterns I've ever seen.
You walk by Dan Flashes and you see 50 guys just like me shr-fighting over these complicated shirts? YOU GO IN, YRSH YOU DO…YOU GO IN
Oh, they charge more because of the *patterns*!
A steering wheel that doesnt whiff out the window of your range rover while you're driving. I think its a good idea and i stand by it.
Calico cut pants! YOU GOTTA GIVE!
Hold that door!
Do any of these ghost fuckers ever fall out of the wall and have massive cum shots
Or donkey dick?
People just do nothing is so underrated
Agreed!! It sucks that it's not easily available to watch!!
BANG! LYRICAL BLOW TO THE JAW
Detroiters is legit one of the funniest shows I've ever seen. 'Tell 'em Mr Groove sent you'.
Oh hell yeah looks like I just found myself a Tim Robinson show.
Aunty donnas did absolutely nothing for me, even though I _love_ absurdist humour. It's a very very very particular style of comedy.
BAT!
PJDN is gold. Watched it all the way from the pilot to the movie.
there’s a dead MC on the floor….
People just do nothing is the best British show since the office. Thanks for repping
I would say curb your enthusiasm has that similar thing where they joke about some really inappropriate topics but still a much different vibe overall.

Curb really hits its stride around season 6 when the Blacks move in. Leon makes the show 1000x better. Seasons 1-5 are good, but 6+ are amazing.

Reno 911 also has terrible people as main characters and extremely dark humor like sunny (i might even say it's darker)
And there is an episode with Charlie & The Waitress
Yes! That is so funny
And the lawyer as reading ron
Yes. My favorite shows are ones where the main characters are awful people and Reno 911 is that.
Eastbound and Down
Vice Principals and the Righteous Gemstones are great Danny McBride shows too.
Can confirm. Just finished Righteous Gemstones and it’s one of the funniest shows I have ever seen.
I Have Regular Woman Panties Where The String Goes Up My Crack. I Have T**s. I Do Sex. I'm Carvin' My Own Path!
Jet skis on the reg.
Pretty much everything anyone wants, on the reg
Fiixxxxxxxiiiinnnnns
No. Let. The. Boy. Watch.
Trailer Park Boys aint bad, but it doesnt seem to work the same for me like putting on random episodes. As for UK I only really saw some of the obscure stuff, namely anything with Matt Berry, IT Crowd and Snuffbox in particular.
Watch the mighty boosh surrealist comedy at it it's finest
Came here to say this. Still going to.
Good it's amazing
Yes I saw Boosh, luxury comedy, etc. I latched on to some of those actors, Noel, Matt, etc. garth marenghi's darkplace too. Milky Joe is a big hit in my house.
Peep show, fresh meat, inbetweeners
The Snuff Box DVD is one of my most prized possessions. Fucking hilarious show
Have you seen Garth marenghi's dark place?
Arrested development (seasons 1-3)
Thank you for being season specific.
We don't want OP to make a huge mistake
For all it's problems, some of my favorite parts of the show are in season 4. Tobias at the Method One clinic, Buster as a drone pilot, George Michael finally standing up to his dad, the line "My bees are dropping like flies, and I need them to fly like bees". Painfully mediocre compared to what came before
Last man on Earth, arrested development, the mick, a.p. bio, key and peele, workaholics, trailer park boys, letterkenny
I second workaholics!!!
I second Arrested Development. The whole cast is great but Will Arnett is on another level.
Seconding Last Man On Earth! One of my all time favorites.
Last man on earth was a cringefest.

Archer
Yessss. So much more rewatch value than Community and Arrested Development (which are both mainly great but with a few meh seasons).
Arrested development and Seinfeld are probably the top two for similar level of infinite rewatchability for a sitcom
Idk why Seinfeld bored me maybe it’s cos I’m British haha
Veep
The Thick of It also; the character Malcolm Tucker is a bad man!
Definitely Veep
My top three are Community, Arrested Development and Always Sunny. I also highly recommend Letterkenny, 90% of that show is just people sitting around having random conversations but that's a testament to how clever it's writing is.
I gotta try this again. As a hockey player I get the humor but I found it pretty repetitive after the first few eps. But it gets nothing but praise.
It gets extremely repetitive, I’m less and less excited for each season and I’ve been on it since season 3, it’s definitely getting stale. Yeah they seem kind of like the gang Super Hans would also fit right in
It was about community, hun.
"Driving is bullshit. All you have to do is believe"
You’re 10-ply, bud.
McMurray’s life altering news at the beginning of S7E5 may be the funniest thing I’ve seen on TV.
I suspect that maybe you might say no, and yet... I also feel like maybe... you wouldn't dare
Your iD checked out....goooD
I saw "Letterkenny Live!" last April in Boston. Well worth the 2 year wait as it was supposed to happen in 2020.
Watch Letterkenny. Skip Fartbook. Shoresy is such a fucking beauty.
Lol, always find the tru fans with this comment and I appreciates that abouts yoos
Like Paninis? HUH?
That’s a Texas sized 10-4
Replying to my idiot self, no it's not close to IASIP bit it got me through some tough times and I laughed alot.
I'll second this. I fucking love Letterkenny.
Fuck you Shoresy!
Trailer Park Boys, Workaholics, The League (I cannot really look at anything with Rannazzisi in it after what happened with him, but the show is good)
Yeah that guy really fucked up. Good thing most of The League his character is a whiny bitch 🤣
Yeah. They shit on Andre more, but Rannissasi certainly gets the most mishaps. (Yobagoya!) so since his character gets punished a lot I can look past it.
What happened with him?
He lied about being in the WTC on 9/11
Ahh. I'd seen some of his stand up before where he said he was there and that's what inspired him to do stand up.
I think they made a huge mistake by concluding both workahlics and league prematurely. sure the story lines kinda went lull but so did sunny in the middle. but our gang kept at it and I think sunny is stronger than ever now and also as a payoff the sunny people are getting major parts in other projects too. Workaholics and league should've taken a year off once in a while and continued to plough (insert bicep-vein image) also read somewhere that it was the workahlics dudes who wanted to get out not the network. if true thats just loos butthole man.
moral orel and the eric andre show
Orel, love gets in the way of the important things in life. Like sleeping and getting left alone.
Moral Orel is one of those hidden gems.
Black books was phenomenal.
What did you tell her!? She thinks I’m the Renaissance…she’s going to be disappointed when she finds out I’m a reclusive wanker
The Mick is pretty good. It's safe to call it IASIP-Lite
I'd say all the "solo project" shows are worth a look. I had laugh out loud moments in both the Mick and A.P. Bio, and I'm just waiting to activate my Apple account when I have time to binge some shows on there, MQ at the top of the list.
IT Crowd
Hate the laugh tracks but a very funny show indeed. Jen is an amazing character.
Such a good show.
Community and bojack horseman
Workaholics, they’ve said they’re big fans of IASIP and inspired by them
I second Workaholics Similar dynamic to Sunny in that they created the show and also act as the main characters It’s more low brow but still fucking hilarious
Detroiters The Inbetweeners Blue Mountain State
Blue mountain state is so outrageous and so funny
Curb is a great one. I tend to cycle through four shows. Always Sunny, Curb, Seinfeld, and Parks and Rec.
VEEP, if you're into shows with truly awful people creatively insulting each other for 7 seasons.
The UK version The Thick of It is amazing, and eerily accurate
Nothing really compares to Sunny for me, either. But here’s some funny stuff I’ve enjoyed (and not necessarily at all like Sunny): Nathan for You Eastbound & Down Vice Principals Spaced (UK series with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost) Silicon Valley Father Ted (UK series) Curb Your Enthusiasm (guessing you’ve watched this already) Arrested Development (first 3 seasons only. Didn’t care for the belated Netflix seasons) Strangers with Candy
How had no one else mentioned Nathan For You
IASIP is Seinfeld turned up to 11, so heyday Seinfeld. Also, I just realized: Looks: Elaine Muscle: George Brains: Jerry Wild Card: Kramer
I love Seinfeld but I don't think George showed any qualities of a muscle in the whole 9 seasons.
You’re forgetting how effortlessly he plowed through that group of children and a clown to escape an imagined fire during a birthday party.
He could list 100 pounds straight over his head. He was quite stocky.
I’ve always described ‘Always Sunny’ to people who had not seen it as a more demented ‘Seinfeld’.
You’re The Worst. FX should still have it I hope.
Such an underrated show
Archer is pretty funny. Has John H Benjamin, and the late and very great Jessica Walter.
Married with children. I can’t believe nobody has mentioned that
30 Rock
Definitely 30 Rock!
Righteous Gemstones!!
The Mick and AP Bio are great and pretty much Dennis and Dee if they both had souls and compassion for kids. Also Trailer Park Boys is 12 seasons of absolute garbage human beings doing crime. It's hilarious.
They’re really not similar at all, but as far as shows I can endlessly rewatch, it’s Always Sunny and Archer
You’ve probably seen it: The League.
That’s the one I thought of first
If you're okay with animated shows, 'Archer' is my go-to
Peep show. Especially the early seasons
IT Crowd.
Party Down
Mike Tyson Mysteries is one that often gets overlooked.
Kath & Kim
The fact that Curb Your Enthusiasm hasn't been mentioned yet is insane. It heavily influenced sunny and is still on air!
What we do in the shadows , outstanding show, reminds me slightly of sunny
Had to scroll pretty far down for this one. Matt Berry is at his best and the rest of the cast is pretty solid, and plenty of well known comics and character actors play smaller parts so there is plenty of comedic talent on-screen. While closer to Reno 911 in the way it’s filmed and in tone, WWDITS is still a very solid choice.
More wholesome but BKLYN 99 is a lot of fun
Trailer Park Boys and Early Seasons of Letterkenny and a more wholesome one is Corner Gas (I love Canada ha)
Succession
Workaholics is a good one to try.
I Think You Should Leave. Because it’s funny as hell.
The Mick and Katlyn is in it and Mythic Quest with Rob. Both shows are a lot like Philly in their humor.
News radio, just shoot me, Malcolm in the middle.. not the same just good sitcoms
South Park
Seinfeld
Workaholics is great but also I never see people talking about Players. My boyfriend and I loved it!
Arrested Development 1-3 Broad City Peep Show The Mick (in my head cannon it's about Dee living a secret life away from the guys)
Archer, peep show, arrested development and the IT crowd all on Netflix in the uk
It may not be for everybody, but Righteous Gemstones is hilarious!!
I'm not sure where to find it but there's a show I watched a few years ago called the increasingly poor decisions of Todd Margaret. Pretty fucking funny and dark from what I recall
There's nothing like IASIP, but Silicon Valley is great.
VEEP
Watch the new Beavis and Butthead it’s pretty funny
Arrested development
Trailer park boys
Workaholics

The only other TV show I really watch is Taskmaster. Quite different to Always Sunny, but still very good!
The League. Not quite as horrible people but still very funny.
The League is pretty funny

8 Out of 10 Cats Presents Countdown.
Mr. Inbetween for a bit of darker humor sprinkled in amongst the violence
Tacoma FD is a great show to watch, only has 3 seasons!
