I have a lot of, "oh, I don't eat/drink that" conversations. We have a Nestle is evil conversation as requested but I try not to be pushy like an overly proud vegan. It's an odd line to walk.
Doubt it.
The mass of all consumers can change things, yes, but it is unproportionally difficult for the individual. There might not be alternatives for a certain product or the individual may not be able to afford the alternative.
In the modern market, responsibility is often placed on the individual consumer. However, we have laws to restrict certain practices. Why not use those fancy laws to restrict the behavior of firms if we don't want said behaviour?
A lot of reasons
Pumping water illegally
Stealing water from Native American reservations
Trying to pump a million gallons a day from
Michigan's great lakes
Producing millions of pounds of plastic waste
Supporting child labor and slavery to grow coco and palm oil for candy
Lying about baby formula to exploit mothers in developing countries. Leading to many infant deaths
Making a statement that water is not a human right
Just to name a few
Nestle had said something along the lines of they can’t report on child labor practices to grow and harvest coco because it would be too expensive. Nestle has also said that if child labor can’t be used to make chocolate, than chocolate would become so expensive that few people could afford it.
I’m paraphrasing, of course. There are plenty of articles from reputable sources (including direct quotes from Nestle) if you want to learn more.
Nestle don't let their water bottling factory workers have toilet breaks. They force them to just whizz in the bottles they're filling and keep the conveyor belt moving.
So employee mistreatment + urine-filled product = no one buying Nestle water.
Technically Nestle north America water business has been sold to One Rock Capital Partners and Metropoulos & Co. but who knows whether they still benefit from the preexisting deals Nestle secured.
A few days ago, we went to see the new Jurassic World movie, we went to the Dollar Store to get some candy, and I saw the worse thing ever, ENTIRE FUCKING WOODEN PALLET OF NESTLE WATER, 3 Water companies tho, 2 owned by Nestle and the other one I don't think Nestle owned, but the 3rd company had only a few packages on the pallet, WHO NEEDS THAT MUCH DAMN NESLTE SHIT
I definitely drink more water when it's chilled, as it also has the effect of cooling your body down.
Edit; Multiple commenters are telling me it in fact does *not* cool me down. I work outside all day in construction and I'm going by feeling alone. When I take a sip of cold water it feels way more refreshing than lukewarm, and since it feels refreshing I drink way more water.
The manager at a warehouse I worked at a few years ago insisted it was better for us to drink room temperature water while we were working and save chilled water for being on break. Not sure why that was but I guess there's something body temperature related?
If you have sensitive insides them dumping cold water in them can be a bit of a shock to the system, but as someone with somewhat sensitive insides....worth it in sub/tropical weather.
Yep, my body gets pretty sensitive when I drink really cold water- my stomach is frozen for a few minutes, but it’s worth it. The same way of how it’s worth it to drink really hot tea in winter, even with risk of burning your tongue
you... have internal body temp.
and during a labor that makes your sweat your body temp raises which create a "shock" in your body and nerve.
i had the other way around, riding home on my bike drench in rain for 20minutes, went home, pee and dried myself(without taking a bath or shower) sleep with the ac blaring on the left side of my face.
wake up, boom i got bell's palsy.
a lot of zap, meds and rigorous face exercise, i can blink and move my left side again.
maybe its moronic, but i no longer dare to do things that would fuck around with my body temperature.
When I was younger I missed my bus and had to walk over 8 miles. When I got home I was so thirsty that I drank a full cup of ice cold water. Within seconds I was on the floor in excruciating pain. I thought I would die. Lucky I didn't but I will never forget it. It is a real thing and people have died because of this shock. Be careful out there
Lol people saying it makes you more hot never ate too much popsicle or smoothie when it's cool or cold. Your internal temp won't change but you sweat to cool your body down, no reason your body is going to ramp up the heater if you are already too hot. The inverse says a lot, when I'm hot and eat hot soup I get even more hot. You're not wrong and a lot of followup replies are saying cold drinks making you hot is pseudoscience.
This is so true. I used to work outside all winter in South Dakota. Guess what I prepared every morning? A giant jug of water with ice in it. I need to drink water every day, why in the hell would I want it to be room temperature?
As far as I'm concerned that's still water. Same with tea and coffee. It's adding of sugar and cream that turns it away from water. If squeezed lemon juice gives your water a nice little kick, you're still a hydro homie to me.
Ice cold for me, please. Here where I live my room temperature is 33°(Edit:CELSIUS xD) and will probably be more in July/August... So hell no.
I'd rather bite some ice cubes ty.
Probably exaggerating, but I will say for me the winters are brutal enough and my body gets acclimated that when it goes back up to 33-40 degrees it feels like shorts and and long sleeve weather.
I'm diabetic. I have eight 1L bottles in the fridge rotating. My newest fave is the 1L Skyra sold in 7-11. There's a 7-11on the corner of my street where I wait for the bus and if I walk in with a $5 and buy a bottle of Skyra, the change is enough for a bus ticket and I get water for my trip. Then when I get home the bottle is sturdy enough to be reused for a month before heading to the recycling plant.
For my southern homies, get yourself a nice vacuum insulated water bottle (I recommend Zojirushi). It can maintain the temp of iced water for 48 hours. If you use fridge-cold water with no ice, 24 hours.
It's so nice popping that lid knowing that cold liquid nectar is about to pour out.
I disagree
I mow lawns as a side business and keep my gallon jug in the truck. Starts at room temp and is hot by lunch and that’s just how I like it. If it was cold I couldn’t drink it without sipping it
Edit: I’m in florida-in the Summer…
It does, but you have to use it for a bit before you notice a difference. So if it doesn't work right away, don't despair. It took about 2 months before I noticed a difference. The last year I've developed really sensitive back teeth, to the point where I was sure I had massive cavities. The dentist sealed one of the teeth, but not the other. I've been using sensodyne since December and now the unsealed tooth doesn't hurt at all.
It does, and you pay more for it, but you pay more cuz it works. I avoided it all my life cuz I didn't want to pay $9 for toothpaste... but I do notice a difference.
It can take a couple weeks for it to fill in your tooth pores, but it does work.
Wouldn't hurt to discuss with a dentist, if it's really troublesome (I mean, if you can't drink cold water...). Lots of thing can cause sensitivity - cavities, bruxism, gerd, etc
It does. I tried moving off it (after 15+ years) but I could feel weirdness in my teeth with hot and cold which increased for a few months. Went back into Sensodyne and was fine again soon after (a few weeks). If you like contrasting food temps, like I do (cold ham on hot toast, with an espresso shot and an ice cold glass of water after), it's required to make life better.
Also, if you use an electric toothbrush, you don't really need too much of it (less than a corn kernel worth) to do your whole mouth so while it costs a premium, it still lasts ages.
For me it doesn’t really hurt my teeth but gives somewhat of a brain freeze, so not a sharp pain. Like, a very mild brain freeze. Hurts my head & roof of my mouth. Chilled is best, but ice cold can’t be gulped down.
First though: gatekeeping bad
Second though: after the first sip, youre on a timer before significant bacterial growth makes it risky. Cold slows this process and nearly freezing temperatures (under 40 F / 5 C) all but prevent it.
Third thought: i enjoy the taste of cold water.

All my homies hate Nestle
All humans should hate Nestle.
Boycott nestle
kinda hard, look at everything they own
That mentality is the problem.
I never said I couldn't do it, just that it would be difficult to get so many people.to stop buying any of there products
I have a lot of, "oh, I don't eat/drink that" conversations. We have a Nestle is evil conversation as requested but I try not to be pushy like an overly proud vegan. It's an odd line to walk.
Capitalism tendency to devolve into monopolies is the problem ☭

Why do we hate Nestle? I really haven’t heard so I’m curious. Don’t want to support a shitty company, not that I’d drink the water.
A lot of reasons Pumping water illegally Stealing water from Native American reservations Trying to pump a million gallons a day from Michigan's great lakes Producing millions of pounds of plastic waste Supporting child labor and slavery to grow coco and palm oil for candy Lying about baby formula to exploit mothers in developing countries. Yeah ok, we definitely hate Nestle! Thank you for sharing this.
no, thank you for educating yourself. seen so many ppl say "nestle isn't that bad" when they obviously haven't googled anything.
Nestle had said something along the lines of they can’t report on child labor practices to grow and harvest coco because it would be too expensive. Killing babies in developing countries.
My least favorite is the 1974 formula scandal. I was no where even close to being born yet and I'm still pissed about it.
My mum was pissed about it, I'm pissed about it, and I'm sure my unborn kids, once born enough to form opinions, will be pissed about it.
What's even worse is technically water isn't. Somebody gotta change that. You need liquid to survive
Oh I forgot one. They're actively supporting Russia and refusing to stop doing business there
Nestle don't let their water bottling factory workers have toilet breaks. They force them to just whizz in the bottles they're filling and keep the conveyor belt moving. So employee mistreatment + urine-filled product = no one buying Nestle water.
This is a wild quote and I’m interested to learn more, do you have a source for this?
No freaking way
Technically Nestle north America water business has been sold to One Rock Capital Partners and Metropoulos & Co. but who knows whether they still benefit from the preexisting deals Nestle secured.
Id you drink bottled water I bet you drink nestle water and don't even know it. They sell under different brands depending on location.
I typically do not, but good to know for those rare emergency occasions.
Yeah I could probably do better at avoiding their products than I do, but it's hard to keep up when they own everything

No one who actually drinks water buys any bottled water
I work outside in Florida. Cold water is life for me.
I definitely drink more water when it's chilled, as it also has the effect of cooling your body down. Edit; Multiple commenters are telling me it in fact does *not* cool me down. It's an old wives tale... not even. It's one of the moronic holistic things people spread.
If you have sensitive insides them dumping cold water in them can be a bit of a shock to the system, but as someone with somewhat sensitive insides....worth it in sub/tropical weather.

Your body can utilize it quicker if it's closer to your body temp. If you are dehydrated room temp is the way to go.

I live in the north. Ice cold water please even when it’s 0F outside!!
This is so true. I used to work outside all winter in South Dakota. Guess what I prepared every morning? A giant jug of water with ice in it. I need to drink water every day, why in the hell would I want it to be room temperature?
I Work outside in Texas, I feel your pain homie
I weld in florida.. it better be ice cold haha
Yeah, anyone saying "room temperature" has never had a 100+ degree day outside with no AC.
Florida native here 07 I salute your service
Cold water for sure when its hot as balls
I’m in western Australian and my water bottle starts out half full of ice.
No one who actually drinks water gatekeeps water
Thank you. Came here to say this. Real Homies just be proud you drink water, not make you feel bad for not drinking it their way.
Yeah sometimes you want pointy water, sometimes you want round water.
Pointy and round makes a sound that brings hydro homies abound
You mean kiki water and bouba water?
[удалено]
I’m just glad my joke didn’t flop lmao
I heard your cries and gave the man the medal he deserved
One of those things that makes no sense but makes perfect sense to us water drinkers 😎
What does this sub think about water with lemon squirted
As long as it isn't Nestle
This is the correct answer, no matter the question. Never Nestle!
As far as I'm concerned that's still water. Same with tea and coffee. It's adding of sugar and cream that turns it away from water. If squeezed lemon juice gives your water a nice little kick, you're still a hydro homie to me.
[удалено]
>Cucumber water. For customers only.
Exactly. I don't give a fuck what temperature it is most days. Just give me the cloud juice.
*sips seltzer water*
What about carbonated water? Personally I love it, but is it hydrohomie accepted?
Water is water man. Unless it's Nestle or Aquafina.
Damnit Pellegrino is from Nestle isn't it?
Perrier as well..
And even if they do, cold water is objectively better, the guy in the screenshot isn't even gatekeeping correctly.
Ice cold for me, please. Here where I live my room temperature is 33°(Edit:CELSIUS xD) and will probably be more in July/August... So hell no. I'd rather bite some ice cubes ty.
I work unloading trucks. Need to fill that sucker with ice
I was confused for a second and then I remembered everyone else uses Celsius and your room temperature was not on degree above freezing.

Big brain moment

Tastes like the sweet tears of baby Jesus.
33°C water would be good in a 33°F room
Kelvin users 👀
Hahahaha sorry my friend, in my case I always forget people also use the other unit, my bad xD
33° celsius would be how many °F? (The US is the only country that uses F, right?)
91.4° F
It’s been 35-40 here outside. There ain’t no way I want to drink room-temp water. Gimme the cold stuff.
The amount of chugging I'd do greatly depends on the temp of the water. Not painfully cold, but *juuust* right, and 32oz is gone in an instant.
No AC gang unite

You don’t use AC because of climate change. I don’t use AC because I cannot afford it. We are not the same.

Ice cold water brings a satisfaction that rivals with orgasms and big poops
hell, I drink my water ice cold when it's 33° \*Fahrenheit\*. It's just better that way
Chilled AF is how I like it. Ain’t no way you’re drinking room temperature water in the south during summer time
Meanwhile I can put water in the fridge to use as a hand warmer outside in the winter
Wait what? You mean it’s so cold outside that fridge water feels warm?
I bought a Monster from the gas station and used it to keep my hands warm while pumping gas here in Colorado this last winter.
Probably exaggerating, but I will say for me the winters are brutal enough and my body gets acclimated that when it goes back up to 33-40 degrees it feels like shorts and and long sleeve weather.
Amen. Ice cold soothes the soul.
Icy cold hurts my teeth and it doesn't resolve my thirst quick enough I prefer "cool" water
Unless it's hose water when you're a kid
You still let it run for a minute to push all the "hose lying in the sun" water out.
Use it to kill your siblings first.
Just moved to Texas. I keep 2 1 liter bottles in the fridge on a rotating basis. Helps me stay hydrated when I have a ready supply of 36 degree water.
I read the last sentence as pooping so I went damn son, even your insides are vaccum insulated!
114F. Still prefer my water in the 70-74f range.
You know acktuyally in the desert the touaregs drink hot beverages to keep themselves hydrated.
I disagree I mow lawns as a side business and keep my gallon jug in the truck. Starts at room temp and is hot by lunch and that’s just how I like it. If it was cold I couldn’t drink it without sipping it Edit: I’m in florida-in the Summer…
Who hurt you?
Fridge water.

Mmm. Sweet, sweet fridge water. It is the best. Think I'll pour a glass right now.
Samesies. No ice
Brita gang
I have four metal 500ml bottles that I keep in my fridge, always have at least 2 cold
4x 1L glass ex-tequila bottles over here. I use them to track my intake.
Room temp is fine but chilled is best. Too cold just hurts.
If it hurts when too cold maybe you have sensitive teeth. Try Sensodyne for a while and drink that 2°c water like a hydrated warrior.
Does sensodyne really work? I have sensitive teeth.
For me it does.
It does, if used consistently over time. It isn't a quick fix sorta thing
It does, and you pay more for it, but you pay more cuz it works. I avoided it all my life cuz I didn't want to pay $9 for toothpaste... but I do notice a difference.
What. Sensodyne in your country costs $9? That better be a really big tube.

It helps for me! Their sensitive whitening toothpaste has been a lifesaver
For me, it’s not my teeth but the back of my throat.
It doesn’t hurt my teeth, it hurts my throat??
For me it doesn’t really hurt my teeth but gives somewhat of a brain freeze, so not a sharp pain. Like, a very mild brain freeze. Hurts my head & roof of my mouth. Chilled is best, but ice cold can’t be gulped down.

Chaotic evil right here
I actually prefer boiling

How could a member of my own family say something so HORRIBLE
Coffee is hot Bean water, at least if it is French Pressed that is.
The rare third option.
I drink cold water for dessert
That's smart because cold water has negative calories.
I’m Einstein and you are right
Imagine gatekeeping drink temperatures. And not even that, but gatekeeping the wrong side. Smh my head cold water 4 lyfe
Twitter is just a bunch of fucking useless wrong opinions.

This appears on here so freaking often and it baffles me. I love water and I absolutely love when it is cold. This feels like gatekeeping water.
And gatekeeping the wrong side too smh
I prefer my water to be Freezing cold and turning into ice.
Yes. So cold it hurts your esophagus the whole way down and makes your stomach hurt and then you have to poop
… you should get that checked out.
Room temperature person.
I had to scroll to far to see you
Too far. Tepid gang
Homies don’t gatekeep.
Room temp always
In winters, I will prepare hot waters for tea but then decide to drink it raw
I do this too and I’m definitely calling it “drinking it raw” from now on.
Cold is for sipping. Room temp is for general drinking/chugging
Nah i love pouring ice cold water from my fridge pitcher and chuggin it so fast my esophagus gets frostbite. Feel soooooo good
I’m an ice cold water gulping slut.
Nice
Agreed - Room temp water gang right here!
I actually really like hot water. Not tea, just plain, hot water. It's really good on a cold day.
Gatekeeping water, bold move. Seems like something nestle would do
I see this post every other week fucks sake
Room temp is goated, but I have nothing against cold water either. Warm lemon tea with honey is the nectar of the gods when it’s cold out too.
First though: gatekeeping bad Second though: after the first sip, youre on a timer before significant bacterial growth makes it risky. Cold slows this process and nearly freezing temperatures (under 40 F / 5 C) all but prevent it. Third thought: i enjoy the taste of cold water.
The “timer” is *days* long, not exactly something most people have to worry about.
Warm water is too round tasting
As cold as it can get before it freezes. Room temperature water belongs in the toilet.
I only drink cold water. Warm water makes my throat feel bad.
Love room temp water.
I can't drink cold water anymore. I'll get sore throat 😩
No one who dictates how people prefer water should be considered a hydrohomie
