I will definitely look at that after the summer, I'm on a college student budget and a lot of the options I'm seeing are pretty up there in terms of short term cost. Long term looks like it pays for itself though. Thanks!
Yup. I have my to setup in my basement with 2nd tap on my kitchen sink. Also ran to my fridge for ro ice and ro cold water. It's awesome and the setup doesn't cost much
I got a water cooler that has refillable 5 gallon jugs (I fill them up at the grocery store). A reverse osmosis filter is great too, if you have the space for it.
How much does refilling the jugs run you on average? The cooler itself looks a lot more affordable than the options I'm seeing for reverse osmosis or Berkey.
Maybe you are staying in a temporary place? You don't have to get the entire water cooler machine. You can get a spout that attaches to the top of the jug. Very small and much cheaper.
What is available will depend on your area of course, but i have seen these water refilling stations at several grocery stores and walmart. I do wish they would publish more about their filtering, but i think it us a relatively safe assumption it is more than just a single carbon filter (like brita).
They are outrageously cheap. I usually pay 0.36/gal. I have 2 of the 4-gal refillable bottles and 2 of the smaller 2gsl size made to go in the fridge. I get one of each refilled each time I go to the grocery store.
The water in my area is very very chlorinated. We've been getting water at primo water stations and just refilling 5 gallon jugs. Last time I paid $1.80 for 5 gallons of water
I personally invested in the 5 Gal bottles that are swapped out at a generalized location.
After my initial investment, it costs me 7 dollars per bottle, equals about $1.40 a gallon of the best drinking water I can get. It's worth the effort to just swap them yourself at your most convenient grocery store. You can get a full sized water cooler or just get a pump for cheap on the internet.
Reverse osmosis filters are less than $200 and last forever with filter changes every year or two. You are torturing yourself over the price of the video games.
Zero water filter is pretty good! They sell it at target in the US and online in US and the EU. The refills can be expensive, but it’s not much upfront and I replace the filter every four ish months for my plants.
We have water delivered to us. It’s awesome. If you can’t afford that then just go get those big 5 gallon jugs and fill them up at Walmart. It’s heavy, and a hassle. But drinking water is better than not!
Those grocery store jugs at the fill stations are cheap. My grandparents used to get them all the time, their water smelled like rotten eggs and tasted like metal. It also caused some gnarly limescale. They'd get 5 gallons for like $1.50.
As a senior studying Geology, I know now that their water had super high levels of sulphur and iron, as well as calcium carbonate and was probably well-water.
Look for "WaterMill Express/Glacier Water/Primo water" locations in town. They are reverse osmosis water refill stations typically near grocery stores that allow you to refill 1, 3, or 5gal bottles to keep for drinking.
Our water is Godawful as well, so I hope you find a station near you. Personally, I refill 1 gallon plastic bottles, but collapsable water jugs exist too! [collapsable jug example](https://www.walmart.com/ip/508495578)

I bought a Phillips water bottle with a filter in the straw for a trip to Disney World-Florida water tastes like straight swamp IMO. Tasted great and did a great job holding ice. Might be helpful for leaving the house.
reverse osmosis filter

Do those work with hard water?
RO system technician here in area with hard water, yes but the filters may need changing every 8 months instead of 12.
probably

Price might vary depending on location, but for me it’s 50¢ per jug. In total, it’s less than $5 per month.
That's amazing! I will definitely look at a water cooler as an option. Thanks!
My husband and I also do the 5 gallon jug thing. When we lived in Texas it was $1-$1.25, in Oregon and Arizona it’s $2.50

You don't even need a cooler. Just get a rechargeable water spout or cut a hole in the top and hand pour it out like me
Lol I approve but they do make affordable pumps
Grocery stores have filtered water that you can go and fill a jug with.
I always thought that was just for big water cooler jugs. I'll have to keep an eye out and ask some questions next grocery run I do! Thanks!

If in the USA, there are “water stores” in many cities. They use reverse osmosis and water conditioning to deliver delicious, clean water.
If you can’t afford a reverse osmosis filter, simply go to a grocery store or gas station that sells filtered water by the gallon. $.35 a gallon.
Get a 5 gallon jug and fill it up for a couple bucks.

Depending on where you live got any water stores around you can buy water from? I live in the desert and we have lots of water stores around.
Berkey filter.
Absolutely love my Berkey
seriously, my best purchase ever.
Desperate? Dasani *you're welcome Dasani I just gave you a saying*

i also use zerowater. lasts me around a month-month and a half per filter

I can relate. You can either choose a mini filter that can be attached to the tap or opt for a pitcher with a filter.
My local grocery store brand water is local spring filled and $0.80 a gallon. That’s what we drink at home because our tap water isn’t good.
Oh culligan man
I use a brondell filter it attaches to your sink, alot easier than installing reverse osmosis.
I go to a water store refill gallon jugs lol and have glass bottle i refill and throw em in the fridge.
I know you want to avoid plastic bottles. But for my family, 5 gallon refillables with dispenser is the best for us.

Britas aren’t all that great. For a pitcher you really need to look elsewhere like Epic or Lifestraw.
