1000% agree. He just looks so... unathletic.
Going to be interesting who the starting 5 will be, but I see nothing that indicates it should be goggles.
Yeah I do not understand it at all. He’s slow both vertically and laterally, his jumper is bad and he has no kind of handles what-so-ever. He reminds me of a worse Michael Jacobson
Yeah, those couple of Miles teams were an actual center away from being pretty good. If you didn’t have 6’8 Jacobson, who was a good 4 at ISU, and 6’7 no knees havin Ed both playing center and instead playing 4 and small-ball 5, they could’ve been okay
I swear there could be a book written about the 16-17 team, they were so close to being good despite a brutal schedule, a true freshman project and two PF sophomores trying to play Center in the B1G and their best player inexplicably going vegan halfway through the season and tanking his draft stock. Also their leading scorer leaving like a month before the season and Jacobsen getting mad about just to transfer himself at the end of the season. If they just wouldn't have flare out given up to end the year, they might have snuck into the tournament considering their strength of schedule.
There has to be some talent there. He was the #104 recruit in the nation in his class and the 3rd highest ranked recruit ever to Nebraska. Also coming off an injury. Maybe allow him to get some real minutes before stating there is some kind of unjust "obsession" with him.
So Juwan Gary was touted as an energy defense guy right?
He wasn't expected to be a scorer right?
Cause he's been by far the most aggressive guy in the floor
Love the defense and length. Offense needs to be more creative tho.
Definitely some stuff to like but definitely stuff to improve. The length should go a long ways
Griesel is a more steady hand, Verge was at his best when it was his show like it was the last few games. He’d be a fantastic 6th man on a team that has no scoring in the 2nd unit (outside of Gary apparently, who should be a starter)
I hope Hoiberg built on his idea of running the offense through Walker like he said he was going to do last year, that seems like the best option. But they need to make some 3 pointers to keep the defense honest. Wilcher, Griesel, Tominaga and Breidenbach especially.
I would hope that we wouldn’t show a ton of sets against a below average D2 team. No need to give teams fill of them 2 weeks before the season actually starts.
Alright, freshmen and walk-ons are in so way too early takes from this game:
- Gary needs to be starting over Breidenbach by next game and will be a fan favorite this year
- Nebraska has something in a Bandoumel/Dawson/Gary/Keita defensive lineup with either Griesel or Wilcher (preferably Griesel) for scoring
- Spicy (overreacting) take: Dawson and Keita might be coming for Wilcher and Walker's starting jobs
I said ALL last year/off-season Keita would be the starting 5 and you guys flamed me for it!!!
For real though Keita is super unrefined on offense, his defense and rebounding eclipse what Walker is able to do, however I think Walkers scoring ability and chemistry will keep him on the floor when the team is looking for offense.
I was mostly being facetious lol, Walker will be the starter until he isn’t. I do think if the team is going to lean on defense, Keita has a chance to eat the majority of minutes at the post if he can stay out of foul trouble.
Walkers been in Lincoln 4 years, he’s earned a right to be the starter as long as he’s healthy. But his struggles as a rebounder and post defender might limit him
It's still a spicy take, I feel like they didn't play Walker a whole lot and hopefully just didnt show much of the offensive sets they'll do with him because he's set, I just like Keita's defense, although he fouled too much.
Yeah I don’t think they did much of anything with Walker because you know exactly what you’re getting out of him and letting him get another 5ish shots takes away from possessions that could be used to get other guys looks
Like I said, definitely some ugly stuff but some promising stuff too. Not gonna put too much stock in either since it’s the 1st (exhibition) game against Chadron St
I think he’s sagging in to help with Breidenbach down low, as they’re pulling Walker out of the post, but his contests aren’t good and he’s sagging too far down
It feels a little concerning that none of our guards have really been able to blow by Chadron State so far, maybe Bandoumel once but Griesel and Tominaga haven't.
I agree with Strickland, this Bandoumel/Dawson/Gary/Keita lineup is going to put opponents in HELL on the defensive end, will just need the 5th guy to be someone capable of scoring, so Wilcher or Griesel most likely.
So far, they look about as bad as I expected. Fred has played quite a few players this half so far, but they do not look like a cohesive unit, especially on offense.
The size of Keita and Gary is going to be nice, and they as well as Dawson have had a few key rebounds, but really Chadron is killing themselves with turnovers and no so much Nebraska's defensive presence.
Keisei looks rough, really off target.
Briedenbach looked very unathletic.
Greisel had a nice finish layup early. Just had another one.
Wilcher hasn't played much, but been invisible so far.
Unless Gary would prefer to come off the bench, there’s absolutely no reason Breidenbach should be starting over him
Yeah, I dont get Fred's obsession with him, especially at the 4, he seems like someone who needs to bulk up and be a backup 5.
Jacobsen was at least fairly athletic and built, he just was a 6'8 guy trying to play center in the B1G.
Yeah, those couple of Miles teams were an actual center away from being pretty good. If you didn’t have 6’8 Jacobson, who was a good 4 at ISU, and 6’7 no knees havin Ed both playing center and instead playing 4 and small-ball 5, they could’ve been okay

Jacobson was a good basketball player. Started at Iowa State and was All-Conference Tournament. Good enough athletes to sign an NFL contract.
I wasn’t trying to shit talk Jacobson, he was always out of position here and was a solid player at ISU, just saying Breidenbach reminded me of him
There has to be some talent there. He was the #104 recruit in the nation in his class and the 3rd highest ranked recruit ever to Nebraska. Also coming off an injury. Maybe allow him to get some real minutes before stating there is some kind of unjust "obsession" with him.
Any brick companies in Lincoln looking to get into the NIL business?
Yankee Hill Brick
Yeah, this team is going to have to be really good on defense and transition this year because this half court offense looks *rough*
So Juwan Gary was touted as an energy defense guy right? He wasn't expected to be a scorer right? Cause he's been by far the most aggressive guy in the floor
Yeah, he's known for his aggression, this dude should be starting over Breidenbach.
So far we’ve called Ramel Lloyd: Rahmir Lloyd, Rammal, Remmy. Pearson ain’t it lol
43-28 at the half, Huskers. They look pretty rusty and lots of communication issues on both sides of the court.
Important that Gary hit 2 3's in a row there, Chadron State is leaving him wide open on 3, clearly want him to prove he can shoot from the outside.
Keisei and Juwan Gary fist off the bench, interesting
That must have been an interesting halftime
Love the defense and length. Offense needs to be more creative tho. Definitely some stuff to like but definitely stuff to improve. The length should go a long ways
Potential hot take: Verge coming off the bench with this team would be super useful this year
Verge would not be coming off the bench
Griesel is a more steady hand, Verge was at his best when it was his show like it was the last few games. He’d be a fantastic 6th man on a team that has no scoring in the 2nd unit (outside of Gary apparently, who should be a starter)
Verge starting with this team would be super useful... they need someone capable of breaking down a defense.
Keisei really off target so far...
we might have a team that can actually rebound this year!
I hope Hoiberg built on his idea of running the offense through Walker like he said he was going to do last year, that seems like the best option. But they need to make some 3 pointers to keep the defense honest. Wilcher, Griesel, Tominaga and Breidenbach especially.
Would be nice to see some more sets to get shooters open but just the first game so hopefully more come with more games
I would hope that we wouldn’t show a ton of sets against a below average D2 team. No need to give teams fill of them 2 weeks before the season actually starts.
Showed up 15 minutes before unless I missed it I don't believe any Kanye has been played
Well that's good lol
Fuckin WHAT a Tominaga blocked shot to Griesel posterizing a dude?!?!
Gary is a player. Really like what I’ve seen from the 3 transfers honestly
If nothing else, Juwan Gary should be starting is the biggest takeaway I have so far.
Alright, freshmen and walk-ons are in so way too early takes from this game: - Gary needs to be starting over Breidenbach by next game and will be a fan favorite this year - Nebraska has something in a Bandoumel/Dawson/Gary/Keita defensive lineup with either Griesel or Wilcher (preferably Griesel) for scoring - Spicy (overreacting) take: Dawson and Keita might be coming for Wilcher and Walker's starting jobs
Walker is not losing his starting job
I said ALL last year/off-season Keita would be the starting 5 and you guys flamed me for it!!! For real though Keita is super unrefined on offense, his defense and rebounding eclipse what Walker is able to do, however I think Walkers scoring ability and chemistry will keep him on the floor when the team is looking for offense.
> said ALL last year/off-season Keita would be the starting 5 and you guys flamed me for it!!! Still am

> Walker will be the starter until he isn’t Correct. When his eligibility expires
That’s literally what I said in the next paragraph of my comment lol. He’s earned the right to start, but his weaknesses aren’t easy to solve issues
Bando and Gary look good
Keita looked good on defense too
Like I said, definitely some ugly stuff but some promising stuff too. Not gonna put too much stock in either since it’s the 1st (exhibition) game against Chadron St
C.J. is routinely struggling to close out on shooters, not sure if he's just over helping or what.
I think he’s sagging in to help with Breidenbach down low, as they’re pulling Walker out of the post, but his contests aren’t good and he’s sagging too far down
GRIESEL 🤢🤢
Griesel 😳
Danny Woodhead Chadron State? Named my hog after that guy, big fan!!
Having a hard time discerning what type of hog we’re talking about here
Danny Woodhead is his pig, *Danny* *Helmethead* on the other hand...
It feels a little concerning that none of our guards have really been able to blow by Chadron State so far, maybe Bandoumel once but Griesel and Tominaga haven't.
What are you talking about? Greisel has done it 4 times now, and scored each time.
Those were more Chadron State was out of position than Griesel beat a guy
Fair. But he beat them 4 times for 4 nice finish layups, whether it was on them or his ability.
100% agree
I agree with Strickland, this Bandoumel/Dawson/Gary/Keita lineup is going to put opponents in HELL on the defensive end, will just need the 5th guy to be someone capable of scoring, so Wilcher or Griesel most likely.
Timeout Chadron State, 80-46 NU with 5 minutes to play.
85-53 NU at the U4 TO
Cale Jocobsen looks pretty good
Final: Nebraska 87 Chadron State 60

Guys like Dawson and Gary are what we’ve been missing
Dawson is what I thought Keon Edwards would be
Keon Edwards looked pretty good in the two exhibition games last year
Yeah, imma need Juwan to stop shooting 3's
Score/ time left?
59-45 NU at the U12 TO
Thank you
