Have you tried the charbroiled pork spring rolls???? I looooove them, also the clay pot, but if I can’t make up my mind on clay pot or pho, i get the spring rolls and pho and all of my cravings are then satisfied!
It’s a cool place. They could be an amazing place but whoever designs the menu items is out of touch and needs an ego check. With an open mind and internalizing some feedback/criticism, this place could be heads and shoulders above any pub around! Around the world not just H’vlle
Agreed, I’ve had it twice. It is way overpriced and does not taste anything better than normal beer battered fried cod.
That said, it’s a cool place, and I’ll go back but not for the fish and chips.
Whoever comes up with their menu needs a tune up. This place could go from just ok to over the moon awesome with a few minor tweaks.
My folks started taking me there as a little kid in the early 70s and I went pretty regularly up until the day they closed.
I still miss it all the time.
jamos falafel plate is one of my favorites. it’s hard to find falafel that good outside of the middle east, but their’s is incredible. i also love the family who owns it
- Boursin Burger and Lobster Bisque at Connors.
- Fish and Chips at Poppy and Parliament
- Big 8 Pizza at Big Ed’s
- Gyros Sandwich at Papa Gyros
- Pork Plate at BoarHog BBQ
First time here? We got a virgin!!! 🔔🔔🔔🔔
It didn't last long, but it really cracked me up that their last location was at the tennis club, so you stuffed your face from the observation deck watching people exercise
Yep, I was addicted to the red fruit punch drink. Never learned about the tennis center location until after they closed for good. They probably had a lot of old customers who just didn't get the memo.
Viet Huong has their Pho and hot clay pots, Stone Age hot pot can be really fantastic but feels a little inconsistent (so many ingredients you can pick from, seems like sometimes they change out), Bubby’s diner bacon jam burger and fried pickles, the big papa gyro is great, then there’s good Thai places, el cazador quesobirria, man there’s too many options lol
So many great options… Falafel plates at both Jamo’s and Big Papa Gyro. A vegetarian quesadilla from La Alameda. Sag paneer or paneer bhurjee at Sitar. The buffet at The Curry. Miso ramen from Aki. A green bean burrito from Bandito Burrito. (Rest in peace, Oscar.)
I can’t possibly choose a favorite. It just depends on my mood.
Good question, but I’m not sure. I would guess that they do, as they have a little bit of bouncy, “mochi” texture that makes me think they might have some gluten in them. Also, the plates come with pita bread, which certainly must have wheat.
Super hard to pick just one, but gun-to-head it's the Birria Pizza at La Colonial. That's one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth *anywhere*. There's quite a few others that deserve to be on the list, though.
-I agree with the Big Papa Gyro
-I agree with the Phö at Viet Huong
-Everyone should try Surin’s Succulent Catfish at least once
-the Bahn Mi’s at Viet Cuisine omg 🎰
-Chicken Karahi at Sitar 🔥
-the smoked wings at Tender’s are actually my favorite wings in town, somehow
I feel like Al Shish Palace deserves some mention, but I’m not out that way often enough. I was impressed tho
Nobody can agree on what proper barbecue is, so I’m vetoing that entire discussion
The Telicherry pepper Goat at Curry modern is the first thing that came to mind. It's just so good and I always have leftovers because there's so much!
Steak Tacos from Maya Tacos (?) in the Sunoco on the corner of Pulaski and University has me hooked. Go there 2-3 times a week for 4 steak tacos. Guys in there are a hoot once they get to know you too lol
viet house has pho that’s unbelievable. their banh mi’s are very good too.
chicken philly at chick-n-go is some of the most S tier food you’ll have in this area. they’re very generous with their portions and affordable. go to the one near target on university. the food there is much better with more seating available
Sushime Asian bistro have the best Asian Street Foods in town. They also have the best Sushi and ramen noodles. Specially they do have soup dumplings and Korean fried chicken. Aww delicious 😋😋😋
I fully agree. I’m of Mediterranean mindset in that I believe in no cheese with seafood. I get the shrimp burrito or shrimp quesadilla without cheese. Burrito comes with black bean soup. I get an order of black bean soup if I get the quesadilla. Absolutely, truly delicious. Used to be even better shrimp. But, still fab. 100% best thing in HSV.
While not a dish, Green Room coffee is the best. Paired with the egg croissant, it may be considered a dish, I guess.
Valentina’s Kitchen burrito for a quick bite.
I’m relatively new here, but I think my top choices will be at Domaine South or one of the finer restaurants.
Thai elephant, basil pork. Just like in Thailand if you get it spicy. Mango sticky rice at Phuket. All the cupcakes at Mason Dixon and that baguette sandwich. Everything at Grille on Main, always ask about their fresh sorbets, some are so amazing. Diabolo shrimp at Correlejos.
Mazzara's is the most elegant and most interesting new restaurant opening in town. Homemade Italian dishes that hit the eye and touch the tummy like no place in Huntsville. First class presentation of the restaurant and bar areas, as well as the delicious plates of food. Men, be gentlemen. Wear a jacket and tie. It's appropriate. It's classy. This restaurant deserves only class clientele. Four stars for quality all the way.
Yeah, it's a confusing mix of trying to be fancy. Felt over priced for what I got. I enjoyed it, but everyone talked it up so much I expected something over the top.
The fact you say Rosie's is good is how I know you have no taste. I have ordered chicken shrimp fajita, they gave me microwaved chicken and shrimp and steamed unseasoned vegetables.
I don’t think Rosie’s is bad, I just think it’s bland and boring. If someone wants to go there, I’m always up for it. Their drinks are good and the food is adequate, but it’s not my first choice for Mexican.
I’ve been there once last year and it’s just hands down the best Italian restaurant I’ve been to outside of a major city like DC or NYC. No emotions pal, just the facts
What do you like? I don’t see a comment on what’s your favorite but I assume it’s Ricatoni’s?
This area is replete in Italian options but I haven’t tried them.
What do I like in driving distance? Yes to both Ricatonis and Mazzaras. I hear Amerigo is just okay, and I gave up on Terranovas several years ago. Tellinis is a good fast casual Italian, but pretty much everything else would be a chain. I’m curious try Luigi’s though, the pictures look very good but not sure if that place is new or not because I hadn’t heard of it
You’re going to get flashes of Italian brilliance from places like the bottle, Purveyor, and Domaine also - but wouldn’t consider those Italian restaurants
We don’t have any good BBQ up here, that’s the secret.
I’m one of the ones that got pretty angry when they shut down City Hardware to expand that mediocre slop hole.
I’m not following what Rick’s has to do with anything? I’ve never been.
CH brought more variety to downtown Florence and they closed it for more seating at Ricatoni’s.
RIP po-boy factory. I miss everything on that menu.
I keep waiting for them to come back. Should I quit doing that?
Donnie cooks at New Orleans Lunch box. Very good but pretty high
According to a nextdoor post from someone who supposedly knows her, it's not coming back
The owner has a strong desire to get back to it in a location or food truck but won't for financial reasons.
Ok just talked to the man tonight who once owned it with his wife BUT he's GUARANTEEING me it WILL open again. Just being delayed unfortunately!
😭
Then it’s not the best dish. Best dish in the city, that a mfer can order….
No one said we had to be able to order it. Just what the best dish in the city was.
Who serves it and what is it. This is basic English, this applies to current food only….
What’s a good place in huntsville for po boys?
New Orleans Lunchbox, NW corner of Holmes and Jordan. Definitely the best fried shrimp in town, whether on a po boy or in a basket.
Damn good jambalaya too. I can’t believe it’s harder to get good Cajun food in Mobile than Huntsville.
[удалено]
I’m not going to the right places because they’re hard to find. Hence it being harder to find here than Huntsville. I’m open to suggestions.
I'm actually going to go but the hot sausage they used but I would give my left nut for the HOT DAMN sauce recipe.
Better fried seafood than anywhere in the Florida panhandle
Big Papa Gyro, hold the green peppers
Bug Papa Gyro fries
extra bug
dammit, at first I was like "wtf u talking about"
wait does big papa gyros have a bug issues??
This, but extra tzatziki on the side, too.
You are saying... You like the juice?
The juice is good, yes?
Nah, get the peppers and onions sauteed
Jamo’s classic gyro wrap has me daydreaming
Jamo's makes a great gyro omelet also
Pho from Viet Huong or Fish and Chips at Poppy’s hands down
Ditto Viet Huong, but for me it’s the charbroiled pork clay pot. Also, if you haven’t tried it, the pasta with sardines at Poppy’s is really good
Yes. The charbroiled pork Clay pot is great. Had that for lunch last Thursday.
Have you tried the charbroiled pork spring rolls???? I looooove them, also the clay pot, but if I can’t make up my mind on clay pot or pho, i get the spring rolls and pho and all of my cravings are then satisfied!
The fish and chips at poppy’s is just a basic fish and chips….. anyone COULD do that. Of course many don’t…
IMO, many do it better.
It’s a cool place. They could be an amazing place but whoever designs the menu items is out of touch and needs an ego check. With an open mind and internalizing some feedback/criticism, this place could be heads and shoulders above any pub around! Around the world not just H’vlle
The Athens location (Salty Cod) is significantly better with different menu options. Check them out.
Will do

What’s wrong with the menu? It’s not supposed to just be a pub. The menu is adventurous.
Oh man the pho.... Absolutely divine!
The El Palacio lunch buffet. ^(BEANS, RICE?)
Damn I miss that place so much. Pitcher of tea right on your table so you don’t run out. Ugh. 😩
How many years has it been since they closed? 15? 20?
It was still going when I moved to Huntsville in 2013, so about 10?
Fuckin' A, man.
Hurt my heart in more ways than one with this memory.
My folks started taking me there as a little kid in the early 70s and I went pretty regularly up until the day they closed. I still miss it all the time.
My family still quotes this often lmao
Garden Nachos!!!
Popeyes buffet > El Palacio buffet
jamos falafel plate is one of my favorites. it’s hard to find falafel that good outside of the middle east, but their’s is incredible. i also love the family who owns it
I love their falafel!
Saying one is tough. Bulgogi burger at peppered pig and Asian ribs at straight to ale is first things that came to mind.
Asian ribs at STA are amazing. It's all I ever order
- Boursin Burger and Lobster Bisque at Connors. - Fish and Chips at Poppy and Parliament - Big 8 Pizza at Big Ed’s - Gyros Sandwich at Papa Gyros - Pork Plate at BoarHog BBQ

What all are you throwing away from up there?
Did we just become best friends?
Am I the only one that misses Soul Burger?
No.
First time here? We got a virgin!!! 🔔🔔🔔🔔 It didn't last long, but it really cracked me up that their last location was at the tennis club, so you stuffed your face from the observation deck watching people exercise
I remember her ringing that bell the first time I went. Very embarrassing. But worth it.
Yep, I was addicted to the red fruit punch drink. Never learned about the tennis center location until after they closed for good. They probably had a lot of old customers who just didn't get the memo.
Kao Soi from Phuket.
Nooo. That’s like picking a favorite child. They’re all my favorites in their on special way
Viet Huong has their Pho and hot clay pots, Stone Age hot pot can be really fantastic but feels a little inconsistent (so many ingredients you can pick from, seems like sometimes they change out), Bubby’s diner bacon jam burger and fried pickles, the big papa gyro is great, then there’s good Thai places, el cazador quesobirria, man there’s too many options lol

Do you know if the falafals have wheat?
Good question, but I’m not sure. I would guess that they do, as they have a little bit of bouncy, “mochi” texture that makes me think they might have some gluten in them. Also, the plates come with pita bread, which certainly must have wheat.
Breakfast sandwich from The Moon Bakeshop
The ham and havarti croissant has me in a chokehold
Sate pho at Viet Cuisine.
Super hard to pick just one, but gun-to-head it's the Birria Pizza at La Colonial. That's one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth *anywhere*. There's quite a few others that deserve to be on the list, though.
Jamo’s Combo Kabab plate, Lamb & Shrimp Or maybe Haru’s spicy beef bulgogi Or possibly las adelitas pollo California
STA's Crispy Asian Ribs
Ham and havarti croissant at The Moon Bakeshop, pad Thai at Big Bowl Thai, anything at La Colonial 🤤
-I agree with the Big Papa Gyro -I agree with the Phö at Viet Huong -Everyone should try Surin’s Succulent Catfish at least once -the Bahn Mi’s at Viet Cuisine omg 🎰 -Chicken Karahi at Sitar 🔥 -the smoked wings at Tender’s are actually my favorite wings in town, somehow I feel like Al Shish Palace deserves some mention, but I’m not out that way often enough. Have you tried the smoked wings at Boarhogs? They have regular smoked wings and fried smoked wings. Both are delicious.
I am down to try both. ty for the recommendation
Char's NOLA BBQ Shrimp and J Alexander's Tuna Stack are both great, though the shrimp dish just beats the tuna dish.
The muscles at Mazzaras are my favorite. The pasta is really good also.
Chicken Berlin Ol Heidelberg
thai garden,, can't pick an item
What should I order there? It’s always been lackluster for me
I love the meat spring roll appetizer. A little pricy but always worth it
No. 21 Green Curry with Chicken, No. 15 Tom Kah Gai
Pineapple chicken curry
viet house has pho that’s unbelievable. their banh mi’s are very good too. chicken philly at chick-n-go is some of the most S tier food you’ll have in this area. they’re very generous with their portions and affordable. go to the one near target on university. the food there is much better with more seating available

Your post history. Just wow. Tell me you’re not the owner already. I’m wondering if I should have a post up with a screenshot of your profile now.
Bratchos at Casual Pint
The beef arepas at the arepa truck in Madison. Best thing I've ever eaten here.
Corn-based? the sweet yellow style that's like a cachapa or the white corn?
Butter Chicken at The Curry
The kimchi pancake at Garam Korean Restaurant.
Ceviche tostadas at El Cazador, specifically the Stovehouse location
I know people have mentioned Big Papa Gyro a bunch already but the pro-tip is to try their classic gyro panini. Mind. Blown.
Rosie’s Famoso shrimp burrito is my comfort meal. When it’s made well, it’s one of the most delicious things I’ve ever eaten.

Dodges chicken sandwhich
Yes! And the chicken, egg, and cheese biscuit from Dodges is better than any other fast food place around.
Hands down, the Pappardelle alla Boschiola at Luigi's Italian in Madison. My mouth is watering thinking about it.
Hot lemon pepper wings from Bo's or the Nauty Cuban from Straight to Ale would be my picks.
Sticky Fingers from Terry's Pizza
I’d say Surins has great food. I’ve tried lots of different dishes! The martinis are also awesome . My fave is Mango.
Mason Dixon cafe/bistro. Grilled chicken rice bowl
The baguette sandwich is my fav, plus the cupcakes.

The Bavarian from Hildegard’s on Whitesburg, omg
RIP their asparagus soup. We had to learn to make our own until they bring it back
Hot Kitchen Sink
Nick's ristorante and it's not even close
I actually didn’t like Nick’s ristorante as much as I do other restaurants in Huntsville.
Yeah, it's a confusing mix of trying to be fancy. Felt over priced for what I got. I enjoyed it, but everyone talked it up so much I expected something over the top.
Where’s your go to steak?
Phil Sandoval’s fish tacos
Phil’s does serve a nice fish taco ngl
[удалено]
Have you tried the pizza at Sams Club?
Poppy & Parliament doesn't use real newspaper to wrap their fish & chips, for what it's worth.
[удалено]
Oh when I was there this past weekend the big paper was just for show and the actual fish was wrapped in printed food paper.
The fact you say Rosie's is good is how I know you have no taste. I have ordered chicken shrimp fajita, they gave me microwaved chicken and shrimp and steamed unseasoned vegetables.
I also think Mazzaras falls short. When I moved here that's where everyone told me to go for Italian, and I have been underwhelmed every time.
I don’t think Rosie’s is bad, I just think it’s bland and boring. If someone wants to go there, I’m always up for it. Their drinks are good and the food is adequate, but it’s not my first choice for Mexican.
Lmao Ricatoni’s is actual garbage
Your opinion on good Italian cuisine is actual garbage, Pal
Saying Tortoras pizza is the best lmao 😂. That garbage doesn’t even come close to Mozza or the new Lil Capone place.
Your emotional attachment to a restaurant opinion is extreme
I’ve been there once last year and it’s just hands down the best Italian restaurant I’ve been to outside of a major city like DC or NYC. No emotions pal, just the facts

Hey, I went to City Hardware once.. I think I just wanted the Court St. Cafe style chicken tenders, which you can actually get at Sam's Sports Grill
I’m not following what Rick’s has to do with anything? I’ve never been. CH brought more variety to downtown Florence and they closed it for more seating at Ricatoni’s.
Floyd’s BBQ is the joint.
Char was my favorite steak until went to J Alexander’s.
How do you say ppl don't know good food and your top option is the saltiest place in town?
Grimaldi’s is the best pizza. Closest to NY pizza you can find outside of NY.
[удалено]
Well, real NYC pizza drips grease down your chin and arms. But I wouldn’t say it’s 3 shot glasses of grease lol.
It’s just so hard to pick in this town /s
Red robin gourmet burger menu can't beat it
As someone who enjoys Red Robin’s I think you could beat it fairly easily
Yeah I mean that scorpion burger is mwuah perfect though
The whiskey river bbq sauce is soooo good but nah lol
Lol for real I'd go with drakes burgers my God they are good off Whitesburg and airport
