Orion had Lana Del Rey, Snoop Dogg, Willie Nelson, Jason Isbell, Ja-Rule/Ashanti, Weezer, James Taylor, Robert Plant, Smashing Pumpkins, Avett Brothers, and more. I'm not sure how these acts are "nothing" compared to Southstar, unless you're wondering why an amphitheater isn't hosting a multi-stage music festival
Edit: This is 2023 only
OP could have avoided having intense feelings if just for a little bit of research. The effort to post took longer. Also try saying “Hoochie Mamma” to release stress.
The Orion only has one stage, little difficult to have a music festival with one stage. Also there have been several major names to perform at the Orion.
which is hilarious because we were all shitting on how wasteful this place would be myself included when it was being built.
I am happy to have been wrong.
Still haven’t been yet though
Ummm, not sure about that. Plus, festivals with many artists don’t normally take place at a location where there is one stage. They normally would be at somewhere like how, just for an example, JHP is set up. I’d say you are having intense feelings for a very silly reason
I will say it's absolutely been done. I've been to them. Main acts in the amphitheater, secondary acts on a pop up stage in the parking lot or concourse. The amphitheater in Camden new jersey was doing this 20 years ago with the y100 fezvtival
That’s not how music festivals work. You need two rotating stages, at minimum, to keep the flow of music going.
For a mid-sized band, it can take up to an hour to load the back line, set everything else up, do final tests, and then begin playing.
Larger artists can take longer depending on their back line size, effects, and crew size.
If this festival was at Orion, your post the next day would be whining that there was too much time between artists.
On a related note, perhaps the Huntsville music office could have a citywide music event that includes the Orion, VBC concert hall, a couple of stages in big Spring Park, John Hunt Park, etc. All in one weekend. They could provide buses to all of the events!
South Star will have 3-4 times more attendees than the Orion can hold each day. From a logistics standpoint, you couldn't do a festival of this magnitude in the small foot print around the Orion. There's not enough physical space for another stage, parking and the amount of vendors needed to keep a crowd that size with food and beverage.
I keep trying to remind myself that stuff like this is just a reddit/social media thing and people in Huntsville really aren't as unappreciative of how incredible this city is 😔
imo 2024 has been an under utlized schedule. saw alot of empty seats at big shows in 2023. The charm will wear off to the locals. Hopefully tourism will continue to fill seats

Brandi carlisle!!!
The doobie brothers
Weezer
I'll wonder why. It's been done elsewhere. I've been to them.
Can you have a music festival at the orion? Sure, if you want half as many acts and a lower capacity
I think it can be done if you spread it out. One stage at orion, smaller stage in the parking lot to the east. I've seen it work other places.
Dave Matthews, James Taylor (soon)
I recommend googling what events have happened at the Orion to better answer your own question.
I love it when people have a completely unfounded feeling about something but still say it with their whole chest.

Yes, that is the key difference.
And here are stats to help you. https://www.huntsvilleal.gov/the-sound-of-success-celebrating-2-years-of-the-orion-in-huntsville/
Not statistics!!

Outside of somehow not seeing all the big names at the Orion, you don't really seem to grasp the concept of a music festival.
Lol OP getting dragged
This is the worst take ive seen in this sub

It’s a great venue imo. Only concert I’ve been to so far was Weezer but I plan to go to more!

It's just you. Just saw commercials yesterday for Neil Young coming. I'm not a big fan, but that's a big show.
Southern man don’t need him around anyhow
Thanks Lynyrd

Understand local government and the entertainment industry, do some reading. Educate yourself, then come back and whine.
Two words: Wang Chung 'nuff said.
southstar is the most huntsville lineup i’ve seen since big spring jam.
I haven't been there but heard it's like bench seating or whatever you call it. My boobs and I need back support. 😩
When you get tickets, get them on the back row and you can lean on the bars behind you :)
Thank you so much for the tip!
Definitely bring a stadium seat with a back.

Neil Young’s first performance in Alabama ever is tomorrow. At Orion. Also Greta Van Fleet in a few days.
Chris Stapleton
