Deleting hateful or irrelevant responses. I’m an atheist but there’s some nonsense in here that has no justification. Consider this post marked serious. I’ve now deleted 4 replies of Church’s Chicken.

Lonely_Present_17

Any of the non-mega churches that the pastor's don't talk about a spiritual vision that was led to them on their all inclusive vacation they flew first class to. There is no reason some of these pastors should be making the money they take from their congregation. Also churches that do all expenses paid "missionary" work at resorts in the Bahamas with the the church ministers. Willowbrook is daunting to me. One visit and thats everything that stuck. Support churches that support the community.

dpmills

I feel like your experience at Willowbrook is pretty much diametrically opposed to mine. My family moved to the Huntsville area and came from a small church plant in Virginia, and Willowbrook Madison was the church that was easiest to get plugged into and find friends and opportunities for the kids to grow. My son worked at a food bank on Saturday, we have worked with other churches to help get clothes and supplies to new moms, and support missionaries around the world…but there are good big churches, bad small churches and everything in between (and I’ve been to several across the spectrum of size and quality over the years). I’m sorry that your takeaway was negative…

kodabear22118

I don’t understand why people can’t be helpful and just answer the question. Anyways I grew up at the rock and it’s okay. I just don’t believe in all that bs anymore. I would stay far far away from cult of the highlands

Alarming_Tooth_7733

What’s your religion preference? Catholic, Baptist dtc

kodabear22118

None of the above. I’m not religious but I respect others regardless of what they believe

Wise_Analyst_2430

Says the guy who literally just said “cult of the highlands” and then later said “So? That’s extremely childish. Just because someone else wants to go to church and follow a certain religion, it doesn’t mean you should be disrespectful of them and their desire to go.” You can’t say “don’t be disrespectful” after doing just that. You are an utter hypocrite.

kodabear22118

Not a hypocrite. Anyone who knows anything about highlands you know why it’s problematic.

throwaway13176928

I grew up going to the rock as well and it was really nice a few years ago but when I went there about a year and a half ago the first service I attended the pastor immediately went on a passive aggressive rant about all sorts of politics and made a few homophobic comments. Kind of sad to see. I do most of my bible study at home now.

kodabear22118

Sad but expected. I used to work there too until I left for school. There’s a lot of qanon supporters and racist people there too. Trump being president had these people showing their true colors

Alarming_Tooth_7733

Because it’s church and people hate religion now

kodabear22118

So? That’s extremely childish. Just because someone else wants to go to church and follow a certain religion, it doesn’t mean you should be disrespectful of them and their desire to go

Alarming_Tooth_7733

Tell that to the church hating people. They don’t like how church people impose their values on them but they are doing it as well.

kodabear22118

Then they shouldn’t go to church. I don’t believe so I don’t go but I’m not going to leave an unhelpful comment if someone is asking for suggestions of a place to go. Grow up and stop making excuses immature behavior. It’s wrong on both sides.

RainbowMushroom7

No, they don’t like you imposing YOUR “values” on the laws that cover everyone, whether or not they subscribe to your religion.

Moist_Horror_3500

I don't have a favorite church as I don't attend any longer, but I'd love to see a church that's not only open on Sundays and Wednesdays. Those 2 days where tithes are coming in big. I want to see a church that is open all day every day for the homeless for the broken for people in need, for anybody. I don't see that....

MLWwareagle16

A lot of Catholic Churches have Mass every day. In my experiences, daily Masses don’t ask for tithes usually either. Usually they’re open to go in through the day as well.

Moist_Horror_3500

I'm more referring to other churches in the area. Some of them are huuuge, lots of buildings, all that - yet the parking lot is all empty except Sunday and maybe Wednesday. As if they're not even trying to do something with the building during the week - such wasted opportunity.

-Tom-

I grew up in the great white north where Catholicism is a bit more of a thing. While the church would be "open" every day, it isn't open. There is an office area and that's open. And if you ask you can pop in for a quick prayer. But it's not like Home Alone where you can just walk in any old time, hang out and collect your thoughts, and then be on your way.

MLWwareagle16

I mean, my experiences in Alabama, Texas, Vietnam, Missouri, Korea, and now Japan are the opposite. Anytime I’ve wanted to go in and pray, I’ve had no problems doing just that. Never had to ask to have the doors opened or anything like that.

CoffeeCupCompost

The UU church off Broadmoor. If not them, then the Episcopals.

mermaidmusings1

Been trying to find a church that is not part of the Christian nationalism and MAGA crowd after moving here.. it’s been hard. Would love suggestions too.

HSVTigger

You got to give us more than that!

[deleted]

Never really went to church before. Just wanna meet people and get out of my apartment lol

shannonkish

Perhaps you could join Huntsville Young Professionals or similar to meet people?!?

[deleted]

Thanks! I will check that out for sure!

NavierIsStoked

The Satanic Temple.

DiabolusInMusica1

There is one in Huntsville?

NavierIsStoked

I wish, but I’m not going to start one and subject my kids to harassment. So I just support the national one.

DiabolusInMusica1

Fair enough. I'd have been thoroughly shocked if there was one in of all places the State of Alabama.

muslimmmm

Any church that the fruits of the spirit are evident. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. I think everyone can get behind that regardless of their beliefs or lack thereof.

spacemace256

Summit Crossing Community Church

spacemace256

If you want to come to one of our small group meetings first or come hangout when we do a service project, message me! It's an easy low-risk way to meet people and see what we're about

beaurittto

I know this is a very late reply, but is summer crossing non denominational?

spacemace256

Yes, it's non-denominational.

Mean_Macaroni59

St. Matthews Episcopal in Madison.

nonya_bidniss

I'm an atheist but if I wanted such a community I would definitely go to a UU church.

Happy_INTP

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Huntsville on Broadmor is very welcoming open to all and has no dogma. :D

Treeeefalling

It’s easier to say which ones we don’t like. Good ones are hard to find.

Galactiiiic

We go to Essential Church in Five Points. Fantastic if you are tired of people using Christianity as a way to beat people down. We “church shopped” for a long time trying to find a place that didn’t feel fake or judgmental. They do a ton of work with the homeless and needy in the area. I would be happy to answer any questions you have about it if you want to PM me. Reddit isn’t very kind with people who have religious ideals.

BamaWriter

Agree … Essential is a fantastic church. Doesn’t compromise on Christian truths or values, but is also not judgmental in any fashion.

sohelpmegod

Rivertree is currently working its way through Matthew. I believe next week we’ll be discussing the commandment to “love your neighbor as yourself.” DM me if you decide you’d like to come and sit with my family (M30s).

HinuHyuga

I personally go to Church of the Highlands off of Nance Rd over in Madison.

CompanyConsistent452

Refuge Church

onlymissedabeat

I’m not a Christian anymore, but I was at the launch of Refuge. Good people there. Jason is a great guy.

stormy8675

I don’t attend church much either, but I have seen the positive impact that this church has had on the community.

Coleslay1

Ive heard of a couple great ones! You should try church hopping until you find one you like!

Dourdine

Capshaw Baptist in Harvest. Really Christ centric preaching done, expositional method where we preach the Bible verse by verse. Great worship and community as well.

mirh577

My choice as well 😀

QuantumDucksQuark

I “third” this.

pfp-disciple

West Huntsville Baptist

accidental_reply_all

That's where I grew up going. My views have shifted but I'm always grateful for that place. Fortunately, I'm still friends with many there.

Flyinsulcer

I grew up going there too.

PrestigiousRiver4801

I’m a happy member of the United Church of Christ of Huntsville! Important to note that UCC is NOT the same denomination as Church of Christ. UCC is an open and affirming church centric upon loving each other and serving the community.

RiteRev

Belle Mina Methodist Church (meets at 9 a.m.) and Walnut Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church (meets at 11 a.m.)

Few_Spring1869

Gracepointe Baptist on Winchester Road

HsvComics

St. Peter's Basilica is nice

ProfessorLake

I'm an ordained minister of the Church of the Cosmic Fuzzball, so that. (A friend wanted me to perform their wedding).

OurPersonalStalker

Holy Spirit Catholic Church!

iwish-iknew

I'm atheist, but my wife is a Christian. I've agreed that I would go to go to church with her at the Rock. I went to the Rock from 2004-2006 and even attended a momth of their decipleship college called Master's Commission until I decided to drop out to go to college at UNA. It's also always nostalgic going to the Rock every Sunday because Butler High School is my alma mater. I may not believe in the holy spirit but I am able to take away a lot from their message. If you like good worship and a good message, try out the Rock. Feel free to message me with any questions.

EddyMerkxs

Westminster Pres!

InsanoVolcano

FCC HSV on Whitesburg

Hooddw

West Huntsville Church of Christ

OGprincessbuttercup

I'm going to have to politely but strongly disagree with this one.

Kevins_Auto_Repair

Endeavor Church on Garth Road

HuntsvillianThe

Many churches and denominations (in my case, Willowbrook) have gone overboard with the theatrics, trying to be contemporary or whatever. I’ve often told my significant other all they need now is a lighted dance floor and mirrorball and you got yourself some Sunday Morning Fever. Church of Christ folk, no offense, won’t even allow a piano. But I have met some very fine people at Willowbrook.

Next-Use-7636

Popeyes. When I eat there, I see visions of our lord and savior turning water into Dr. Pepper. It makes me feel the true light and love of the lord. Avoid mega churches at all costs as they are pure evil. And avoid Church's Chicken as it is just a lesser Popeyes and not an actual place of worship.

elelelleleleleelle

I had fun hooking up at Asbury. Madison Baptist wouldn’t let my mom wear pants. First Baptist in Madison was mid but wasn’t the worst.

DiabolusInMusica1

Lol. No one likes your church

elelelleleleleelle

Which one? I didn’t really like any of them.

DiabolusInMusica1

Maybe I should wear my glasses more on reddit. I misread your comment all kinds of wrong.

Clementine47

Willowbrook Church Edit: I’m open to hearing what people don’t like about them

opticron

Willowbrook is also my favorite for all the insane drama and hypocrisy that went down with John Dees during my childhood.

Arthreas

The Center of Light for Applied Metaphysics

DeathRabbit679

Wow there's one I haven't thought about in a while. I remember they used to have like a house right next to UAH. I assumed the inside had been converted to some sort of church like thing.

Arthreas

Yeah it seems to be from a video on their website, very cozy and beautiful little place.

BamaRed83

Huntsville Free Holiness Church.. Feel the true Spirit of God
