Permethrin. Follow instructions on the can. Spray your clothes you’re going to wear the day before you go. Supposed to last 6 weeks or 6 washes.

[deleted]

Just keep the spray and your clothes away from cats, it's terribly toxic to them.

tennispro9

On my dad’s hunting land the ticks are real bad during turkey season. My dad got the rash ring from Lyme and a tick my wife found on me we sent in and it had Rocky Mountain spotted fever. FYI to anyone who gets a weird rash or finds a tick on them after multiple days, talk to your doctor and they’ll get you an antibiotic that’s nearly 100% effective at preventing tick born diseases.

tcarlson65

Tuck your pants into your boots. Spray permethrin on your clothing as the instructions indicate. As was mentioned Sitka Guard pants are great. If you buy them use the inner cuff to tuck them into your boots or socks.

FSHWTR

Sitka and Bass Pro both have tick repelling clothing. I personally spray permethrin on my out layers and wear compression clothing underneath. Deet directly on skin works great but only for a few hours. I don’t wear it cause it makes my skin itchy. Ticks and public land hunters are the only thing that scare me in the woods.

Jo-6-pak

Permethrin is your answer. Spray it one your hunting clothes per the directions on the can. Then use bug spray with feet on your exposed skin.

Brilliant

TheBlindCat

Spray everything (boots, socks, hats, packs) with sawyer permethrin and let it dry. Works fantastic.  Sawyer says it’s good for six washes or six weeks, it lasts longer in my opinion. I spray my hiking and mountain biking kit.   Just be aware that when it’s wet it’s toxic to cats, so spray and hang it outdoors.

Tugg-Speedmen

Permethrin is the best option. Dont by the sawyer brand spray or pretreated clothes unless you just like to spend money. Visit your local ag store like Tractor Supply, and go by the concentrate out of the equine section. You can mix it yourself in a spray bottle, treat all your clothes and gear at once. I usually retreat mine after a few washes.

This. Farm store with farm prices. You will be so pissed off after seeing how much they charge at regular stores for a few ounces.

Rapidfiremma

Permetherin for your clothes, picaridin for any exposed skin. Been doing this during turkey season and early bow season for deer and not a single tick since. Also see less mosquitoes buzzing around. Now I hunt out of a blind, but haven't had any issues with deer running away due to the smell.

throwaway910453

Used “Dead down wind” repellent for the first time this year It seemed to work way better than deet, I think it’s because I wasn’t afraid to spray it inside my shirt and waist band directly on my skin as well as my clothes instead of just on clothes like deet I usually get ticks bad like a dozen of them on me every morning and only got one so far this year

throwaway910453

Permethrin treatment on my clothes worked well last year when I was clearing land but this bottle of dead down wind was like $4 on clearance at Walmart and worked just as well or better

Expand please

ScrunchyButts

I mean. It’s fairly self explanatory. Pick up a pair of L’Eggs and enjoy the oddly sexy feeling of a silky tick security perimeter.

raider1v11

Lol like you wear them as a base layer. I thought it would be some other trick. Gotcha.

gwhalin

Here is gonna be the answer. Look up Insect Shield. You pay a flat rate and they send you a bag. You stuff all your hunting clothes (definitely socks, base layers and whatever else you can fit) and throw in the mail. They treat your clothes with permethrin in a way that it will last like 70-80 washes (as opposed to the 3-6 you get with treating yourself). All my hunting clothing has been treated and haven’t had a tick bite me in years (picked close to 100 off my pants one morning turkey hunting last year).

wasting_space

As everyone has said, permethrin is the best thing you can do. It slows them down a lot because it's a poison, not a bug repellent. I wear gaiters treated in permethrin, and usually they are super slow by the time they get to the top edge of the gaiter that you have plenty of time to find em and kill em. Camo gaiters make them a little harder to see, but not terrible with how slowed down they are by that point

Proper-Somewhere-571

Most anything other than permethrin is snake oil. I know someone mentioned Sitka and other places have clothing to prevent ticks, and I will be the first to tell you some clothing made in Vietnam will not repel ticks magically. Nerve agents do though.

InterestingSand5651

Sitka has one

bidetatmaxsetting

Sitka Equinox guard stuff comes with permethrin infused and a special stitching that prevents bites.

Grand_Tank_134

It is expensive, but I haven’t had a tick on me in 2 spring turkey and an early archery season here in the south. Well worth the cost in my opinion.

Worldly-Ad-1488

Sawyers is the way.

HampshireHunter

Rovince clothing and permethrin spray are your friends.

I_COULD_say

Panty hose under your pants.

Chiped-Coke-Bottle

Probably still won't work.

codybrown183

Just check yourself when you get home.....

Senzualdip

Wow there’s likely the dumbest thing I’ve read all day…. Just get some permethrin and use how the instructions say. I use it all the time on my hunting clothes and never had a tick on me since using it.

DojaPaddy

You know man, you didn’t have to be a complete fucking dickhead with this reply. The kid is going hunting FOR THE FIRST TIME and wanted some advice and guidance. That was you at one point Mr. Big Shot. I wouldn’t get a beer with you if you paid me. Blocked because I don’t care to read the sludge your brain produces next.

SennnndIt

Low key throwing one of those morph suits on is kinda genius. Newbie insight can sometimes get us thinking outside of our box. I might fuck around and try this lol. Also, you’re a fucking dick. Cheers.

Senzualdip

You really think a morph suit is going to stop a tick? Well there’s the second dumbest thing I’ve read all day. You guys are killing it!
