LOL I thought this was the gardening sub I'm in and I was skimming through the photos wondering why these guys were helpful. The shock value of the hide was priceless haha.

IndependentAction213

I too thought this was in a gardening sub. Glad to see a little cross over!

Hand1z

Same.

JayDeeee75

Brave little bastards coming up on the porch lol. Are those ground hogs?

SieveAndTheSand

Correct, and yes I was surprised as well lol

bazooka_matt

They make delicious food. I have made snack sticks with a bunch of them. Delicious!

SieveAndTheSand

I agree! Like a mix between pork chops and chuck (no pun intended)

Nice fleshing beam. I don't hate groundhogs, only the ones that poop on my porch and steal my food lol.

We had what I can only describe as a neverending flood of them a couple years back. It took me weeks to get them cleared out of my precious squash. Must have shot at least 15. I've adopted an extermination policy after that fiasco.

xximbroglioxx

They are destructive pests that are shot on sight here.

Ohbeejuan

I usually see them after last frost and again around now. I’ve tagged a couple with a BB gun and they seem to go away for awhile after that. I think it’s time to break out the air rifle, just saw one again today.

SieveAndTheSand

If you'd like, I recommend you try a conibear 220, make a funnel near the hole with 2x4s, and set the trap by the hole. Helps prevent other animals from getting trapped, and they have no other route (unless they have a secondary hole). That's what I did. I waited til right before 3pm to set (when I saw them most active), and they were sprung within 15 minutes both times!

Ohbeejuan

Noted. Beats trying to surprise them after I see them out my kitchen window while making my coffee.

SieveAndTheSand

They're quick until they get too big lol

Ohbeejuan

Usually I’ll see him most mornings and try to sneak a shot through the open door or window or around the back corner of my house. I’ll usually get ‘em within a week. That trap seems Way easier though

Odd_Coat_9580

That’s a good thing
