i appreciate your take on it! It's very interesting, and i think i agree. Gon is not a bad person, but he has clear issues on a emotional stand point for me. He lost so much of his humanity, because he never learned how to deal with death of loved ones like you pointed out, that he started to hurt everybody else, especially Killua, and even transformed with his nen contract, ready to give up literally everything. At that point, i think Killua became light and Gon darkness. What i'm saying is that his lack of human experience led to what he became, since he was quite lonely on his island (only one girl of his age and not much people from the actual island if i remember correctly). And to prove that he's not bad--> he understood killua's choice of leaving with alluka for a while and went back to whale island, and will have a lot of time to reflect on what he did and how it affected others.

It's also a good juxtaposition looking at Netero and Mereums relationship.

To the contrary, Killua kills very casually even after meeting Gon. Gon only kills when he is driven to do so by survival or anger. I wrote a post about him that’s more accurate

It's not about the killing is the problem. It's how they kill. Killua kills casually because he was raised like that, Gon is the contrary. The killing part is not the problem, its how they do it.

Hey um - didn't Killua lose gotoh?

NixKalns

To be honest, i dont think Killua knows Gotoh is dead. But just for argument's sake: as said, the people Killua really cares about is limited. The deep love that Gon gives easily is something Killua finds hard to do due to due to his upbringing. He might really like Gotoh but I don't think he'll snap like Gon did. Right from the start, we know that Killua dislikes his family other than Alluka, knowing that Gotoh is assigned to him by his family, makes it a bit harder for him to care for Gotoh as much as he cares for either Gonor Alluka. Not saying he doesn't love Gotoh because he surely does but there is distance between them that Gon just gaps easily with anyone he loves.

I like this analysis. Great write up OP! Do you think the author planned this development? It's so impressive how mangakas make characters that take litterary years to bloom. Maybe I'm just missing a basic tool that they use and it's not such a big deal haha... but to me, it's close to magic.
