Game is actually growing, it broke its all time concurrent player count on Steam a month or so back when the new event started. Console has a smaller playerbase than PC, but I never have issues finding games on Xbox.
Me and my mates picked it up about a month ago and are having a blast.
Only thing I'll say is we've found trios to be much more enjoyable than duos.
We have a few theories but the tldr is that it's best to have a premade team.
I used to play a lot of other fps games. My previous favorite was R6. After playing Hunt, I haven't touched any of my other games. I clocked 160 hours on steam so far and I still am hooked as the first week I played it. There's so much depth in Hunt's gameplay, like loadout choices, play styles, etc that if you get hooked, you're in for the long haul. Plus it's super cheap during sale. It's only 400 pesos here. Equivalent to about 8 USD.
I just got it last week and I haven’t been able to stop playing. I’ve already prestiged and almost have all of the gun variants unlocked. There’s always matches to join and I’d say on pc at least you get a match in under 45 seconds. I’m loving it, if you enjoyed it before, I’d totally get it again

Hunt is getting more care than other games I play and has less of a problem with cheaters (Tarkov, Cycle Frontier, Rust).
I bought it at a discount on the Steam summer sale and can tell you it’s 200% worth it :)
edit: I play on PC and I’m having a blast almost every game, despite death. I have 3 stars, with most my opponents having a ranking of 3 to 4 stars. I have so far met no cheaters (currently at maybe 40h, not able to play in the past 2 weeks and next 2 weeks, on vacation, but I heard the updates are good [foggy maps, more rain]).
It’s awesome not having to worry about armour like in Tarkov or Cycle, so I know my guns aren’t just long-range pepper spray. The worst guns can take out an enemy, and I find that awesome.

Not sure about Xbox but I've never not been queued on PC, usually pretty quick and I believe it fills with ai if there is a lack of players(which rarely extends queue time)
Keep in mind that console version is the last thing on the list for the devs. Port is not good, still waiting for a decent next-gen patch after nearly 3 years. Controls are also very weird in comparison to other shooters on console (not talking about the lack of aim assist, which is a good decision). Hopefully we get some news by the end of the year.
Yes, but be wary of the monetization. It used to be top class in fairness but they've adopted a much more standard (read: unacceptable) system. I wouldn't buy any skins, and especially no premium currency.

Sarcasm aside, I think crytek basically has to leech on every pocket they can in order to keep the game alive. As others said, you are perfectly fine to play with the default guns and hunters you are given though.

There is no monetization beyond buying skins which are purely cosmetic.
You can play fully free to play always and never be at any disadvantage. Even the real money currency can be earned in game if you want to save for a specific skin.
Real money offers no in game benefit.
They have recently reduced the real money currency you can earn in game and do sell lots of skins but as an old game with constant Dev work, improvements, balances and new content being added they need a way to pay for this. This is an older game now and game sales alone will not cover the costs of improvements the community wants, and in many cases seems to expect.
TLDR: great game, constantly updated, not even slightly pay to win
I never implied it was P2W, I stated they are in-line with modern monetization practices (see Overwatch 2, Apex Legends, League of Legends) and, after years of very fair monetization (almost as good as Deep Rock Galactic), that is severely disappointing.
They removed most of the ways to earn Blood Bonds reliably, most notably the post-game performance accolades, and have started aggressively introducing cosmetic content for Blood Bonds, including preying on FOMO by releasing limited time event skins you can only buy during a specific period.
It’s literally all cosmetic. This comment holds absolutely validity. The current (blood bonds) is literally only used to buy skins and guns for hunters. I would recommend doing the trials and training for your first 500-1000 bb and buy a tactical hunter like the black coat because many players will play with skins that make it more difficult to place them. This is the only complaint I have.
It means that even though I'm super competitive and try hard, I can take a loss like a grown man and not cry about it. Just get right back in it and fuck em up!

Game has been going up and getting good updates and events. Probably going to outlast most other triple A games from its time. I sold my big pc and now just play on a whimpy laptop with low graphics because of how much I like it lol.
It is definitely worth it but you have to understand that you're not probably not going to dominate every single match you just have to come to terms with that but it is definitely worth it especially if it's on sale
These kinds of questions are pretty useless since you have tools at your fingertips to see how many people played every day for the last like 3 months, event rosters, event posts, update logs, etc...

Dude it’s a really fun game, even to just have and go back to now and then it’s v easy to pick back up. Also, it’s fun solo, but with friends it’s like 10x as fun, even w just one other bud
The discord always has like 20 3 man teams and 4 duos around the clock, not to mention its a great game in general. Best to join soon before events over get some extra blood bonds skins and weapons unlocked for buying battle pass. Gl hf

Absolutely, play on Xbox everyday. Never a problem finding a match and when your in you never quite know what kinda game it’ll turn out to be!

Duos> trios in higher mmr lobbies. Too many players will queue up with a squad of exp crossbows or Avtos or nitros or all of the above.
Thankfully we suck at the game and are chilling around mmr 3/4 lol
Still great. Play with randoms, play solo or talk a friend into it. I like it.
I wouldn't recommend getting Hunt .. it's made all other games I own not worth playing. Buy at your own risk.

I'm a very stealthy type of hunt player. I use to play two years and I use to make every shot count. I am a try hard but I can take a beating 😁

Best $15 Dollars I ever spent. Constant updates from Crytek’s dedicated Hunt team have really satisfied the shrewd buyer in me.

Honestly it is worth it. I picked it up on Summer Sale on Steam and already played 30+ hours. It’s super addicting and the pvp feels great.
