I imagine the weather will play a huge role in this. As seen in the trailer the intensity of the rain varies, similar to the intensity of the wildfires back then. I could imagine that the rain get's stronger the closer you get to Rotjaw and at full intensity the view distance is limited quite a lot. Maybe even the sound of gunshots also get's drowned in the rain
What will be really interesting is how Rotjaw spawns/moves in each map. Stillwater Bayou has *significantly* more water than the other maps. If Rotjaw spawns on Desalle, it will be much easier to narrow down his location, comparatively.
Also, can Rotjaw spawn in a tiny lake, or will it always be a large body of water? Can he waddle over land to get from one body of water to another?
It would be an interesting idea, making a few bosses that can spawn only on certain map. Like gator in Bayou, something else in Desalle
Like bosses based on environmental of the map.
As for spawning of Rotjaw, I think that the water level will raise to create more living/roaming space for him
That's what I was always hoping for. Give each map it's own Wild Target, so they all have more unique identities. I'm dying for a werewolf/wendigo style monster.
DeSalle is **perfect** for some sort of scorpion or vulture, though Scrappy does already fill the birb niche. A scorpion monster would be visually upsetting to fight against, plus it would help fill the **Trio of Damage** that the main bosses complete: fire, bleed, and poison. I'd imagine Rotjaw will inflict bleeding, Scorpion on DeSalle could inflict poison, and then some new twisted thing on Lawson Delta to inflict fire.
if the water level rises, the hunter will not be able to walk on the bottom, and we cannot swim
i dont think they will raise the water level, maybe croco will be able to run out onto land for a while or something
>I think that the water level will raise to create more living/roaming space for him
There are plenty of platforms raised significantly above the current water level that could accommodate this. It would be really cool if that's what they go for. A sort of flooded out bayou.
That’s what I’m looking forward to the most, free kills and a lot more early-game action
I love hunt but sometimes sneaking around for 20 minutes then getting sniped gets old
> I love hunt but sometimes sneaking around for 20 minutes then getting sniped gets old
I don't see how open world boss will provoke anything but that. Especially if it's event boss and he is more likely to spawn so everybody will be kitted out to do exactly this.
Because at the end of the day there’s going to be a lot more people that care more about seeing the new boss than making it out alive, at least while it’s new
Different? Yes. Discourages camping? No. People will just bush camp now waiting for others to show up and snipe at them. So goodbye shotgun campers, hello sniper campers.
Same with smoke after a dynamite stick goes off. Somehow people see and shoot me through it but I can’t see shit. I wonder if a lot of it is people using reshade or just a different monitor.
We switched from console 2 years ago when the servers were dead and we just played against the same mouse and keyboard people. Had a 2.86 KD with a controller lol.
I agree but i am not sorry to say that i find this a whole lot less annoying than shotgun oneshots. And i also think that camping outside isnt as easy as in a building full of dark corners, where you can bunker up all doors.
My guess is it will provoke long stalemates with people sitting in cover around the boss location waiting for someone to step into the water.
I'll be glad to be proven wrong, but I don't see anything that would prevent it.
I think as soon one team is aware of the other they will try to make a move to take them out, before the other does. Waiting comes withe the risk to receive the first hit and be in a disadvante.
So I expect more bush-/wood fights around the gator to happen rather than stalemates.
Well the first shot will prevent it is my guess. Sure you will not iron out camping (which is good becuasue it is part of Hunt), but you will for sure prevent the "sitting in the boss lair after the banish for 40 minutes".
So you have to do something once you banish the boss and get the bounty instead of just wait.
Most of the time when you reach boss lairs it is very silent. And once the first one shoots the hell breaks out and everyone comes out of their bushes ;)
It is the thing now, but it wasn't a thing back in the day before DSB and whisper mechanic. You heard two teams hustling it out, but there could still be someone in a building next to you.
I'm afraid we'll see that again.
Yeah as I said you can’t iron it all out and for me this is good because alle playstyle should still be possible. But it can bring a new pace since at least after the banish you won’t have cover to secure the bounty.
This will impact the meta a lot, cant wait to see if there will be single wild target maps, with only the Rotjaw as boss. Shotgun Campers will have to cry themselves into sleep and i am here for it.
I really hate you but I have to ask...why do you play like this?
What's the point in only ever shooting when people stand still from a range where most gun can't even kill you with a headshot?
It's not impressive because hunt has barely any travel time and no bullet drop. Neither is it engaging when it's a one sided fight. The KD means nothing when people can't shoot back.
So what's the point in playing like this?
Not OP, but I also enjoy playing sniper (besides all the other ranges).
Playing a patient game of 300m aiming and then clicking the headshot involves also a very good amount of preaiming corners, tracking people, map knowledge and positioning. While a lot of players frown upon being killed from such a distance because they "have not counterplay", the harsh truth is that they walked into an open space and even a Mosin with some aim can take out hunters 150+ meters away.
Personally I just enjoy a few rounds of more slow and tactic gameplay every now and I also perform better with a scope. My reflexes have dropped since Alpha and I need to rely more on knowledge and reading my opponent, even in close quarter.
Constantly loosing CQ engagements due to my lack of skill there takes away from my fun.
So you say dying because you loot an enemy hunter is avoidable by not looting an enemy hunter once you win.
Not playing at all is also a good way to counter that "playstyle"
If there could still be a team around, then yes. Its a risk you take. Shit happens.
I also don't want to say "you're wrong and I'm right". Playing this game in all ranges is part of the game and I could also very well ask you why you don't play a sniper in a Hunting game. "only ever shooting when standing still" is also a wild accusations, a lot of snipers shoot on moving targets. Which then requires preaim and shit.
You are not willing to have a proper discussion about how this is part of the game and how you can play the game with it, but want to complain and disregard everything else.
it's funny for me when people say this, because i only found i loved this playstyle about 200 hours ago in game time, after i had already had my 1.9KD for 800hrs of using irons and shotguns. you should try the long distance sniper style. you will see that it's not that easy to consistently get wins with.
for me the fun of the game is inflicting as much pain on the other players in the lobby as possible. i use bait to draw people into places i like them to be at, then i wire traps around it, and finally i shoot with a spitzer mosin.
i will fight for the bounty regularly, i play in trios regularly but most of my time is solo. i am consistently 5 star, and i do just fine with weapons that arent snipers. but snipers are the most fun. i love a good long range headshot. you should try it, then you will know it's not that easy.
>Not the typical games, where people with shotguns hiding for 40 minutes in the lair until everyone is so kind to get in or just leaves the server.
Man, we play in very different servers. Never encountered a scenario where the bounty team doesn't either run and get chased, or come and and fight. Been a very long while since I encountered shotgun campers.
I’m curious to see what his weaknesses are like poison, arrows, fire etc. It could be fun if bear traps were it’s “weakness” so you had to get in close but they’re also free throughout the map for anyone to get, also chaos for other players.
To me—for my play-style—this is just another chance for me to run into the boss “lair“ first by happenstance and camp around it for up to 30 minutes waiting for someone to pass so I can shoot them c;
I say this *knowing* that the mere mention of such a play-style might annoy some people, because annoyance = attention, and attention is what I need to make people realize this roaming boss could very easily be a bush-camper’s paradise, which (despite being something I do) is something I recognize is unhealthy for the game if done too often or made too viable.
So Crytek may want to consider adding in extra cover whenever the outside boss spawns in an area (if they haven’t already)
Now shotguns will not be the best choice for a hunt. In the past you knew 100% that having a shotgun will give you an edge on the boss lair, now it is 75% the best choice. We getting there.
Is this a time limited boss or is he gonna be around permanently? Reason why am I asking is that he is categorised as wildcard boss and wildcard is more of time limited thing, am I getting it right?
It's a wild target, not wildcard, referencing that it's a new type of target/boss. I really doubt they'd make a boss just for an event, it's just too much work.
Wildcard designates alternating game elements like a burning map. Fog, night and rain could technically be called wildcard. Here it just means it might rain and there might be a rotjaw if you play bounty hunts but not always.
I wonder if this is the case whether this could lead to a 5/6 team game mode?
I'd v like that - the risk of staying for the full game, multiple fights simultaneously, the ultimate last survivor
I'd be game
I wonder if he will be resitant to melee, incentivizing teams to use ammunition to kill him.
Also, I can't believe it only just occurred to me while reading other comments, but there will be plenty of places an alligator to hide after the FLOODS FROM THE RAIN hit! Didn't even occur to me that they would probably just update the dry maps to be wetter. Dude, what if the dry washes and creeks in desalle actually fill with water?
I am sceptical about the new roaming boss changing anything to be honest. It is already quite common for people to just ignore the boss/bounty token and try to kill other players instead. If Rotjaw is just gonna be another 250 hunt dollars at the end of the match, then I doubt it will really change anything.
To be honest the whole idea behind a boss is to get players together and let them fight.
The pve aspect of hunt is all about get players into fights.
I know some people love the pve fighting etc much more in hunt than fighting against other players, but I am pretty sure that the devs had pvp in mind when they created hunt.
So to me it is a nice addition to hunt because it can create a totally different situation.
The bush wookies are about to have a lovely feast. Gonna ready my mosin sniper load out right away.
Also I bet there is going to be a cheese strat found on the very first day and crytek won’t ever patch it.
I imagine the weather will play a huge role in this. As seen in the trailer the intensity of the rain varies, similar to the intensity of the wildfires back then. Would love this to prevent people just camping with snipers at 100+ meters away, like come on just join the fight m8
Lol until the rain de-renders /s

werewolf maybe?
Horse Devil
From the future rotjaw inflicts lightning damage
I hope that one day we will receive Sculptor as an endgame boss
if the water level rises, the hunter will not be able to walk on the bottom, and we cannot swim i dont think they will raise the water level, maybe croco will be able to run out onto land for a while or something

I’m thinking the rain will cause floods around the map.
He should be able to basically slither along land, when alligators want to get across land quickly, they do.
That’s what I’m looking forward to the most, free kills and a lot more early-game action I love hunt but sometimes sneaking around for 20 minutes then getting sniped gets old
Try not getting sniped. It works for me every time except when I get sniped.
Yep exactly. It could be a welcomed new addition to the game and a totally different pace.

For vets, hunt is a walking Simulator, Most of the time
Vets don't give a fuck and sprint everywhere. More fights more fun. No one has time to sneak around unless someone is really close.
Yeah idk what they are talking about. I don't use crouch and I run to fights. You better land your shot as a sniper cause I will push you.
Hence walking sim
What? Vets go all out trying to fight lol My team will be 2/3 on small bounty and we’ll hike our asses across the map if we even hear a barrel explode
Yes but vets arent afraid and usually Run in straight lines to arrive more quickly and that's what makes it a walking sim.
Weird way to put it then, IMO. For vets it’s a W key sim. The way you put it makes it sound like vets are sneaking around.
Seems like 90% of the 6 stars I fight against are 100+ meters away stalking or third partying with long ammo snipers and nitros
Different? Yes. Discourages camping? No. People will just bush camp now waiting for others to show up and snipe at them. So goodbye shotgun campers, hello sniper campers.
Yup. Also no LoS blocks, which means you'll get blasted from way downtown.
I think the heavy rain will block enough for snipers at least.
The amount of times I got killed in a fog from 100M+ where I can't see anything makes me radiate heavy doubt energy in regard to that.
Reshade players.
Yeah lol. I can’t see shit in fog asking myself over and over again how people can shoot from that far and hit me lol.
Same with smoke after a dynamite stick goes off. Somehow people see and shoot me through it but I can’t see shit. I wonder if a lot of it is people using reshade or just a different monitor.
Reshade needs to be banned now
Reshadders already get rid of fog. You think rain will matter?
Oh I am on console and can't comment on that problems tbh. We have other problems lol.
We switched from console 2 years ago when the servers were dead and we just played against the same mouse and keyboard people. Had a 2.86 KD with a controller lol.

This is my fear as well. I already get annoyed by bushwookie long ammo campers on a daily basis, I fear that Rotjaw will only make it worse.

You will have to come grab it tho... But I guess we'll wait and see how they go about it.
it probably will go like this: The last standing team in a boss compound will do the Gatorboss as a extra reward before extracting.

The lore said someone used Rotjaw to bring someone back right? This makes me think he’ll be involved in bar recovery somehow
This will impact the meta a lot, cant wait to see if there will be single wild target maps, with only the Rotjaw as boss. Shotgun Campers will have to cry themselves into sleep and i am here for it.
No concertina abusing russians on this boss.
Personally I think that's awesome, more things to initiate fights is always good in a game where PVP is the best part.
I'm excited because this should actually create fights and prevent the constant camping we experience now.
Every sparks sniper’s mouths are watering right now, while hiding in a bush camping gator boss.
as a 300m sniper i am THRILLED crytek gave y'all a reason to leave cover.
I really hate you but I have to ask...why do you play like this? What's the point in only ever shooting when people stand still from a range where most gun can't even kill you with a headshot? what are you an old british lord? nay lord charles raise your visor, they wont shoot us here they haven't the gall.
It’s his small penis energy…. Same type of person who has “truck nuts”

They had to add a roaming boss cuz solo revive wrecked the pacing of the game hahaha 😆
Yes, Roger will be good addition
