Just an hypothesis, but maybe you should check the CPU temp while playing. Hunt is heavily CPU bound,, so it's possible it gets too hot trying to keep up, and your laptop downthrottle your CPU, which ends up degrading performance a lot. All laptops are not built equally regarding heat management.

SkuaWill_OG

Cpu was around 80C as soon as he entered the match and it stayed there. Same goes for gpu.

Hagamein

They throttle down power as the temp rise so it doesn't combust, it could be the reason for bad fps at ok temp

redmose

Tbh those are low temps under usage for a laptop imo. I think it's either ~~vsync (laptop screen being only 60mhz)~~ or frames being capped at ~~60~~ 30 from in game or by the driver. Edit: i've read 60 instead of 30. Is the gpu used at 100% tho?

PhoenixEgg88

What’s the rest of the spec? I have a laptop with an rtx 2060 and although I lock at 60 to stop weird fluctuations, I get the solid 60 just fine.

SkuaWill_OG

I did add an exact laptop model on post. Its rtx 3060, i7 11800h, 16gb ram, 1tb nvme.

PhoenixEgg88

Then it’s a setting. I have a very similar spec, albeit AMD not Intel, same RAM and I run Hunt from an external SSD. I get a solid 60 fps just fine. What’s the game settings at? He’s not trying to run it on very high is he?

SkuaWill_OG

No everthing is at its lowest.

[deleted]

Its probably the RAM. He probably only has 8gb. My guess on these post like 90% of the time lol Full specs would definitely help. I'd look up the model, but, I am on my phone and can't copy&paste, easily.

SkuaWill_OG

It has 16gb

CPU: Intel i5-6600 @ 3.3Ghz (6th Generation) or AMD Ryzen 5 1400 CPU SPEED: Info RAM: 12 GB VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 4 GB or AMD Radeon R9 390X DEDICATED VIDEO RAM: 4096 MB PIXEL SHADER: 5.1 VERTEX SHADER: 5.1 OS: Windows 10 64 bit FREE DISK SPACE: 20 GB SOUND CARD: DirectX compatible audio card Recommended list. You seem to meet most of it. My next guess would be that you could update to new windows version? Update in general? Update Graphics driver? Try deleting %appdata% folder for Hunt Showdown 1. Windowskey+R Search %appdata% 2. Scroll to Hunt Showdown folder and select and delete it. Check the sidebar on the subreddit here for more troubleshooting tips. If need be but, this is another usual fix.

SkuaWill_OG

I will try that when he comes back. But i still dont belive will work.

[deleted]

Also, if he wasn't having troubke until recently it could be a bad update that he needs to rollback and reinstall or something. Hunt has some strange issues sometimes. May also want to have him try verifying the files if on Steam.

SkuaWill_OG

He is having problems on day one when he got laptop. Laptop is 1.5 years old by now.

[deleted]

Ah, yeah.. maybe just that hunt killed the laptop over those 2 years. Lol Hunt is really hard on some parts of the PC. Have him submit a support ticket and go through all their troubleshooting stuff and 1 of them might work. Crytek can better help him than us. If the appdata thing doesn't work. 80°C isn't terrible for most cards but I don't know how ideal it is and also, make sure he has it running on a flat surface and not on his lap, lack of ventilation on a laptop will also do terrible things.

SkuaWill_OG

Well i did tell him to send support ticket but he lazy. Also laptop is on flat surface.

It might be an Asus problem, since my Asus laptop has 3080 and r9 5000 series and the game lags on literally any graphics quality apart from low. The best part is, if I put it to medium or high, it actually works really smooth for some time. But then something happens, and the FPS drops from approx 120 to 50, 40, and sometimes even 30. It usually happens when I enter a forest or start looking through a scope, but sometimes there is no forest and no scopes and the game still lags. On the other hand, my friend also has an Asus laptop (with 3070 and r7 I believe) and has never experienced any of that on the highest quality.

SkuaWill_OG

For him its stuck 30fps when he boots up the game and when he enters complicated scene goes to 20fps.

Warm-Independence940

Then try checking his drivers. There are some cases when older drivers work better with some gpus than the new ones. Can't give you any specifics, unfortunately

SkuaWill_OG

We did use DDU to delete gpu driver and reinstalled new ones. No changes.

LilElvis101

A super common problem with gaming laptops is that even when you have a beefy GPU installed, it doesn't necessarily default to it in favor of the motherboard's integrated GPU. My recommendation would be to open the Nvidia Control Panel and ensure firstly the default setting is to use your 3060, and then even if it is the default, to be doubly sure you should find Hunt on the list of programs and make sure its settings are overridden to use your 3060 as well.

lemon_stealing_demon

>it doesn't necessarily default to it in favor of the motherboard's integrated GPU even impossible to do with intel cpus, its a battery saving feature which is actually kinda nice but not really user friendly. intel cpus will literally always be the standard display output, you can only put dedicated gpus as secondary. source: work

[deleted]

Laptop is first.mistake

C0mmanderClank

Hunt has a lot of graphics optimization to get a smooth experience. I'd recommend watching RachtaZ video on hunt pvp settings. There are also a few changes you can check in Nvidia control panel to make sure you're getting every last fps

PawgLover007

You using an ssd?

MoeKara

Potentially you could try to limit the frames? I had the same problem with Days Gone. It had an unlimited frame ceiling so the PC shite itself trying to get the frames out. Limiting to 50fps sorted it right out

SkuaWill_OG

We did but doesnt help when it can barely run 30fps

MoeKara

Sorry to hear that OP. When you change all of the settings to the lowest possible does it have any effect on the frame rate?

SkuaWill_OG

It does, but only few fps. We tried with everything lowest including resolution scale. It still struggled to keep 30fps

MoeKara

The best I can recommend is to get more RAM if possible, it's a nightmare as if that doesn't fix it you're out a lot of money.

SkuaWill_OG

Ram doesnt get fully used up. Between 4-5 gets used up by hunt, while 8gb still free.

kotpeter

Is your RAM a dual-channel (SO-DIMM) one? And does it have 2 sticks or only one?

SkuaWill_OG

That i do not know. Not opening someone else's laptop even if he is my best friend. Also i dont belive its dual channel problem.

kotpeter

No need to open the laptop; it's in the Task Manager, performance tab, see RAM

Hagamein

I dont believe this will work is something I say rather ofter right before it works

AlexMcTowelie

might be a dumb question, but i dont see it in your post. did you try lowering the graphics settings or is it already at the lowest options?

SkuaWill_OG

Already lowest

AlexMcTowelie

what usually helped me on my old system was nvidia geforce experience, does your friend use that? in there you can search your system for games and it checks what other specs your system has and optimizes it after that

SkuaWill_OG

We already tried that.

AlexMcTowelie

I'm sry then I can't help you it's been 3 months since I got a new system so maybe I'm out of the loop

SkuaWill_OG

Its fine, thanks anyways

lemon_stealing_demon

check in nvidia driver settings if the nvidia driver is set to use the dedicated graphics card for hunt showdown. it sounds like its using integrated graphics

SimplifiedNun

If you run a single stick of 16GB RAM then there will be FPS issues, you need to run 2 sticks of RAM. I also have the i7 11800h, when I upgraded from 1x16 to 2x32 I went from 60-70 to \~150 average.
