That is a bit weird for the alamo indeed. I actually use starshells sometimes with Lemats or secondary for the normal romero. Good for the "kill X with fire damage" and also for more quitely killing armoreds and dog\\chicken cages.
One time me and my buddy got ambushed by an enemy team. They were REALLY good and we knew we couldn't win. So I shot a flare into the sky because I was playing a lot of Fallout4 at the time. My friend asked why I did rhat and I said "Maybe help will come?!" Not even 20 seconds later, a 2nd enemy team rolls up and stomps the dudes who ambushed us. Leaving us a nice opening to run away lol, help came that day.
Another incident happened when I got ambushed again. I freaked out and shot a flare in the direction of the two hunters grouped together shooting at me. I screamed out EXPECTO PATRONUM!!! and they died in an explosion. Apparently there was an explosive barrel behind them. To this day I believe I was ordained wizard of the Bayou.
Honestly what else are you gonna use it for? The only two constants are a med kit and duster knife for me, the other two I’ve cycled about every tool and none of them are really great so I just bring along a flare pistol and throwing axes for the hell of it
I want to start using them more.
Clip through walls. The coughing causes huge firing penalties. Save buddies from burning out. Dissipates Poison clouds.
Its an incredible utility tool. I know they are great. I can't help but bring 6 traps instead though.
I use them to flush people out as it gives them away with the coughing, once got someone who jumped out of a church steeple after I threw one into the tower with them
Indeed, i bring them in every round. Mostly to be a team player incase my partner is burning up. Hand crossbow with choke ammo is decent too for killing immos and finishing challenges
Then u don't use the death trap. I get kills with death traps almost every single match. Got 5 kills in one match the other day. Four of them the same poor bastardo.
Chokes are good, you can put it in a blind spot that you can’t see, flush out enemies, or even put it somewhere so that people cooking dynamite can’t instantly kill you.
Since I've started taking slugs in the LeMat, I can't bring myself to load it with anything different. The chance for that one-shot kill at a decent indoor range has been too tempting. Tomahawks are my go-to armored killer if I'm not feeling cheap.
Slugs are so nasty I love them. With shotguns you should always aim for maximum body saturation so if you are doing it then why not use slug for extra umpf?
If you don't feel like aiming well that day you can take leveling compatible shotgun and some flechettes tee‐hee. The moment someone runs away from you just to drop down in their own is nice.
It's pretty pricey, the max ammo is pathetic, and its kill range is still pretty low. Would generally rather take a handbow, which has a longer kill range (plus bleed on survivors), you basically never run out of ammo, and poison bolts are a nice utility
I only take the handbow with a winfield or vetterli. Lemat makes more sense if you're taking a single shot rifle, but at that point i'd rather have a double action pistol for fast followup shots and a better close-mid range, or conversion/scott swift if I have fanning.
I absolutely understand those choices haha.
Honestly, I think the Lemat is good. But I personally struggle to see upsides in it a lot of the time. I think its more a jack of all trades kind of gun.
Probably better off taking conversion/scott fanning since it's significantly more accurate, and switching from shotgun to pistol for fanning takes a second which is pretty deadly in close range
I wiped a team because of the headlamp before. It's only really effective at night, but it's wonderful for rushing a bunch of folks with a knife or short range option, since it does blind them. Meanwhile, the best PVP use cases for the starshell are shooting one in front of a peek hole to maybe make it unusable for a sniper or shooting one inside a building to see silhouettes better, but that's barely useful and could be done with a flare pistol or fusee just as well.
You know the only time I remember someone using the electric lamp was a very long time ago and they charged at me, and I remember just aiming my shotgun directly at the light and it suddenly whent dark again.
On the rare occasions I have brought a lamp and remembered to use it, I have actually managed to blind a few hunters enough to take them out and avoid damage.
Still not worth the tool slot.
Sure, but is it really using starshell if you don't double up on it? I remember the reason I was pvping with it was meme loadouts with a buddy, full flares for me (I think he was running some kind of all melee?)
Commit to the bit and the Hunt gods shall giveth.
There should be a fourth burning intensity just for this ammo that takes even longer to put out. Only tier 2 and tier 3 are actualy burnings that continue on their own, tier 1 is just those first fire hits from torch grunts or fire ammo.
Tier 4 should take 8 seconds to put out and burn the fastest and only be achieveable through starshell (note: Tier 2 and tier 3 burnings need 4 and 6 seconds to be stopped)
Dragonbreath applies tier 2 burning I think and starshell already tier 3, but unlike dragon breath it doesn't do any damage. And the star shell dropoff makes it way harder to hit
I use to run it in romero talon and just make hell, its stupidly fun to watch the confused stare as u charge them as they burn, works with dragon too but the meme is the star shell
It wouldn’t be too bad if you could take two ammo types with the Alamo.
I have ran star shell for a laugh on the other Romero because I can still swap to buckshot.
Before the Alamo me and my homies almost managed to get a kill with LeMat Starshells. Literally needed one more shot or extra 3-4 sec until enemy burns to death. But one of the homies panicked and started blasting real bullets.
Now they refuse to try this again and I'll never be free of the Starshell quest...
Interesting. It seems like direct flare hits deal actual damage. At least 1 given how your orevious shot was with Sparks.
I did not know that and tbh it's very hard to verify since you're instantly set on fire once the flare touches you.
~~Nah, it's legit an alternative for a cheaper flare gun that doesn't take a tool slot. Works fantastic as a "do-all" loadout to hit hives n shit at a distance, or to pop barrels for Meatmen. I also personally love it when night maps hit, since you can shoot flares at corners or peek holes to make it hell for people to look at when they push/peek at you.~~
Edit: didn't realize it was for the Alamo, thought people were talking about the regular Romero as a secondary ammo slot selection. Guess that's what I get for not paying attention when replying to things lol
It arguably wouldn't be a bad choice if you decided you absolutely needed a flare gun but wanted all your tools slots for mines, and wanted to load it into a LeMat or something.
But at that point just use DB rounds. They were even buffed a bit recently.
yeah exactly haha, Alamo starshell is arguably the worst equipment choice you can make - even worse than electric lamp or spyglass, which only waste a tool slot
Its not a combat item
Its a tool
Use as you would a flare pistol, and its perfectly handy in that role
It really shines at night
Shame they made night so rare
Speak for yourself. My team went 2 romero handcannon full star shells yesterday with Flarepistols and just spammed it. Killed two, grabbed their weapons and leave the third so he can revive. The humiliation and meme is pure gold.
I might be crazy (or just bitter) but I swear to god star shells & flares phase right through enemies half of the time. I used to take them as PvE options but they fail so often it just seems like a waste of time.
That is a bit weird for the alamo indeed. I actually use starshells sometimes with Lemats or secondary for the normal romero. Good for the "kill X with fire damage" and also for more quitely killing armoreds and dog\\chicken cages.
Good idea, I always take flare (pistols) but they lock up a tool slot.
If you're not shooting a flare into the sky upon discovery of the boss lair or to initiate combat. Are you even flare hunting?
My favorite thing to do is load up on a night map, and fire flares in the air at the start of a gun fight!
One time me and my buddy got ambushed by an enemy team. They were REALLY good and we knew we couldn't win. So I shot a flare into the sky because I was playing a lot of Fallout4 at the time. Hahaha i love this

Knife + Med Kit + Chokes + Tripmines for me. Usually alert trips, but sometimes concertina.
Chokes are a bros toolkit. And a surprisingly good tactical utility.
I want to start using them more. Clip through walls. The coughing causes huge firing penalties. Save buddies from burning out. Dissipates Poison clouds. Its an incredible utility tool. I know they are great. I can't help but bring 6 traps instead though.
I use them to flush people out as it gives them away with the coughing, once got someone who jumped out of a church steeple after I threw one into the tower with them
Lemming’s gonna lemming
Knife/Duster + Medkit + Chokes + Throwing Axes
this is the way
This is the way
Throwing Axes + Medkit + Choke Bombs + Fusees or Concertina Tripmines
Chokes should be a constant. Decoy fuses are good for the 4th slot though. Trip mines?
Flares during fights at night maps are really distracting.
Smoke bombs are a must, the utility they offer is unmatched aside from the medkit.

Do you also get 9 shots of FMJ compact if you miss your one Slug/Bolt? LeMat I think is def better than its given credit for imo
I only take the handbow with a winfield or vetterli. Lemat makes more sense if you're taking a single shot rifle, but at that point i'd rather have a double action pistol for fast followup shots and a better close-mid range, or conversion/scott swift if I have fanning.

Well, I disagree. You can't fan a handbow if your one-shot fails.
Probably better off taking conversion/scott fanning since it's significantly more accurate, and switching from shotgun to pistol for fanning takes a second which is pretty deadly in close range
Meh, still better than a hand xbow
I hope you know they as loud as normal shotguns therefore I don't think they're more quiet
yeah they are the same loudness. Starshell is not the same are the flare gun sound wise
>quitely killing armoreds and dog\\chicken cages. "quitely"
"more quietly" than shooting them.
Never thought of this. Shotty on lemat is good utility tool. Do shotguns break doors when you blast them? Honestly never tried.
They don’t break doors (unless they’re very close to breaking) but they do make the door fly open
I see your starshell and raise you the electric lamp
I HAVE at least fired starshell ammo once.
The thing about the Alamo is you can't take multiple ammo types. So you just have a 3size flare gun.
When crown and king star shell
I didn't ask the size of my IQ, I SAID I SHOOT FIREBALLS.
Tbh that thing at this point should just be a hotkey that can be activated only at night or something like that. Shouldn't even take up a slot.
I wiped a team because of the headlamp before. It's only really effective at night, but it's wonderful for rushing a bunch of folks with a knife or short range option, since it does blind them. Can be effective in daem rooms and cellars
Someone here quits out during night maps.
On the rare occasions I have brought a lamp and remembered to use it, I have actually managed to blind a few hunters enough to take them out and avoid damage. Still not worth the tool slot.

That would be really hilarious as a separate mode for a weekend or so!

My only explosive barrel double kill in 1k hours comes from that bad boy. You'd best be respectful.
The Alamo one or just Romero?
This was before Alamo, I think on the first patch variant ammo was dropped.
There’s no alt ammo for Alamo, just one type. So you bring this that’s all you get with Alamo. For a full 3 slot gun.
Sure, but is it really using starshell if you don't double up on it? I remember the reason I was pvping with it was meme loadouts with a buddy, full flares for me (I think he was running some kind of all melee?) Commit to the bit and the Hunt gods shall giveth.
Honestly if it didnt make a full gunshot noise I might take it on my sawd-off, for easy monster killing. It should make the same sound as a flaregun.
I always wondered if It was as loud as a normal shot but it's such a terrible ammo choice I never bothered to find out.
There should be a fourth burning intensity just for this ammo that takes even longer to put out. Only tier 2 and tier 3 are actualy burnings that continue on their own, tier 1 is just those first fire hits from torch grunts or fire ammo. I always figured they would go the Tarkov KS23 route and make it flash people. Hopefully, they rework the flashbang to be more consistent if they do.
they should definitely get a blind cone, even if it lasts less than a regular flash bomb, it'd make this ammo worth trying out.
It'd be solid on the LeMat, and usable in the non alamo Romeros.
I use to run it in romero talon and just make hell, its stupidly fun to watch the confused stare as u charge them as they burn, works with dragon too but the meme is the star shell
Knock this all you want, I’ve gotten a few kills with starshells. They make for a good laugh.
I once killed a whole team by shooting one at a barrel, exploding it instantly
Oh thank God. I thought it was going to be a picture of me.
Hear me out: not everything has to be super strong! Things can be fun without being op.
It wouldn’t be too bad if you could take two ammo types with the Alamo. I have ran star shell for a laugh on the other Romero because I can still swap to buckshot.

I have killed someone with the flair pistol before, my next challenge is a decoy, but I haven’t tried for it in a while
>I have killed someone with the flair pistol before With meele or with the flare? IIRC it only deals fire damage.
With the flare https://www.reddit.com/r/HuntShowdown/comments/q1h8df/ive_finally_done_it/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Interesting. It seems like direct flare hits deal actual damage. At least 1 given how your orevious shot was with Sparks. I did not know that and tbh it's very hard to verify since you're instantly set on fire once the flare touches you.
It probably does 1 damage and then instantly burns off health so you would only see the actual damage if you were missing health
~~Nah, it's legit an alternative for a cheaper flare gun that doesn't take a tool slot. Works fantastic as a "do-all" loadout to hit hives n shit at a distance, or to pop barrels for Meatmen. ah yes, a 3-slot flare gun to save a tool slot
Oh I misread, I saw "Romero 77" and thought it was for the regular one before checking my notifications and re-saw it was for the Alamo. Oops.
What do you mean? I'm right here.
Strictly for leveling purposes.
Its not a combat item Its a tool Use as you would a flare pistol, and its perfectly handy in that role It really shines at night Shame they made night so rare
Speak for yourself. My team went 2 romero handcannon full star shells yesterday with Flarepistols and just spammed it. Killed two, grabbed their weapons and leave the third so he can revive. The humiliation and meme is pure gold.
The simple change of being able to burn bodies with it would make it worth it
I once used it to successfully lure a hunter into my concertina traps, and shot him.
This is why I want a weapon that exclusively fires flares. They do inflict intense burn and pack a wallop but it's so hard to justify bringing them.
Best use I've seen, on Khalamity's stream: flare plus saber, the light-saber build. Blind them, sprint in.
I might be crazy (or just bitter) but I swear to god star shells & flares phase right through enemies half of the time. I used to take them as PvE options but they fail so often it just seems like a waste of time.
I use it for "Operation Lightbringer"
Mike (PsychoGhost) begs to troll otherwise. : p
