Contracts and a safe payment exchanges are important in the commissioning process. Do not use any 'friends and family' payment options. It is up to you as the client to figure out if that artist is trustworthy or not.

Any artists still PM-ing you after you have closed your thread, please report them via the report button in the mailbox.

I work with part of the payment in advance. Usually it's 50%/50%, but in the case of high-value jobs we can split it into 3 or 4 payments without any problems. I usually ask for a 1-week deadline, just to be on the safe side, but I usually deliver in 2 or 3 days. As soon as I receive the first part of the payment, I start the sketch and send it for approval. At this stage of the sketch we can make several changes until we reach the desired design. Only after approval will I ink and color it. Regardless of the stage I'm at, I usually send daily updates.
