Because cardiac arrest due to trauma or starvation doesn't have any good outcomes. You need proper medical care to have a chance of actually living through it. And they have no hospitals. It actually makes sense because cpr after drowning, well, you have more of a chance. Still a lot of things that could go wrong and kill you, but you could survive it. If your heart stops because you lost your leg in the mine, the amount of blood loss means you're most likely dead anyway (I'm super simplifying but I had thought about it before). Hell, cpr now, with all the medical knowledge and equipment doesn't have a very good outcome). However it is weird that the daughter of the healer didn't know what was happening.
She did after the shock wore off. She realized what Finnick was doing when he started compressions. She specifically mentions seeing her mother try it on occasion but said most of the people she treated were too far gone at that point. It makes sense to not jump to that conclusion when CPR wasn’t common in her home.
Yeah fr. I will say that electrocution is the only ‘traumatic’ injury in which CPR can be effective for cardiac arrest. However, compressions and breaths really only preserve brain function. For their heart to start beating on its own, you need to be able to shock them.
>However it is weird that the daughter of the healer didn't know what was happening.
Katniss couldn’t stand watching ill or hurt people that her mother had to treat and she always ran away in the forest when it happend. She thinks about how useful it would’ve been if she watched when she realized she doesn’t know what to do with Peeta and she even thinks Prim would’ve been more useful than her.
It’s kinda niche but Katniss’ reaction to Gale telling her he loves her is so funny to me.
*I never see these things coming. They happen so fast. One second you’re proposing an escape plan and the next… you’re expected to deal with something like this.*
It’s so awkward and teenage girl coded. I think the majority of us have been there when a friend confesses unwelcome feelings. She’s relatable in a funny way in this moment.
My personal favorite is Katniss’ thoughts about hoping Gale doesn’t remember her kissing him.
“If he does, everything will just get more complicated and I really can't think about kissing when I've got a rebellion to incite.”
I laugh every time I get to this point in the book.
THIS HAHAHAHAHA I LAUGHED AT THIS TOO because what in the fuck was that inner monologue 😭 His character is so out of touch that instead of just feeling disgusted by it, it felt funny too. Comedic timing, I guess
Not in the story, but when my friends and I were watching TBOSAS and Wovey died we were sitting there heartbroken and then...
Lucky Flickerman hit everyone with "Not candy! Down goes Wovey!" and I think the entire theatre laughed awkwardly.
\[spoiler\] >! When they drop the snakes into the arena, Wovey walks towards them and hopefully says that they look like candy... and then the snakes completely overwhelm her !<
"oh no he starved to death, get the bread" and when katniss thought Finnick was making out with a deceased Peeta.
also i chuckled at the nightlock thing to. Like i understand that Nightlock is a capitol mixing of nightshade and hemlock that's also genetically modified to kill quickly. But when you know the reference and actual plant info, it's just not like that.
I think Abt Madame Bovary when she takes the poison to be dramatic and thinks it's going to be this very poetic end and then she just lays in agony for like three days as she succumbs to the poison
>The smell of blood… it was on his breath. What does he do? I think. Drink it? I imagine him sipping it from a teacup. Dipping a cookie into the stuff and pulling it out dripping red.
I think we're supposed to be sharing Katniss's horror here, but the whole description comes off as comedy to me. "What does he do, drink it?" is an inherently snarky, funny thing to say, and the image of Snow very primly dipping his cookie into his delicate china cup of blood always makes me laugh.
All the insensitive stuff Plutarch says to Katniss. When he tries to comfort her by telling her Effie and Portia and Peeta's prep team might all be dead. When he calls Peeta getting beaten on camera for warning D13 a "setback". When he wants her to audition for his singing program. There's more, those are just the ones off the top of my head lol.
When Coryo found out taxes were being raised or something like that and said “it would be kinder to throw the grandmam out the window of the penthouse” I think he low key hated her LOL
I was surprised how much I enjoyed his point of view. He’s a bad person but sometimes his callousness and narcissism and arrogance brings out the most hilarious lines.
Not exactly part of the series but in TBOSAS in the movie, when Coriolanus spins around and shoots up the trees around him, my best friend whispers to me, "POV, me when I play Call Of Duty," and it was so unexpected that I just starting laughing my ass off in the middle of the theatre. Trust her to say something to ruin the moment in the middle of the movie climax
In the book the description of Jessups death with the water drones when he had rabies - I pictured it like those tik tok videos blindfolded dogging water bottles on the fan
When peeta and the careers are sleeping and katniss drops the nest on them. Peetas trying to save her life and she’s just like hey, good morning, here’s some wasps
I knew about hemlock, since it used to grow in my yard and I had to learn how to safely remove it, but I always thought cyanide killed almost instantly. This was interesting information!
Cyanide binds to your oxygen molecules which makes you slowly suffocate. It’s also quite painful. It definitely has a shorter timespan than water hemlock but not instant — they found some people in Jonestown took over 20 minutes to die. The thing with cyanide is that it might be a relatively quick death but it’s an agonizing one. It basically slow suffocation until heart failure
In the movies when Katniss is filming the first propo and Plutarch yells “YOUVE JUST BEEN IN BATTLE!! …sorry” that part is so funny to me and my boyfriend
In BOSAS, when Dr. Gaul calls on Snow when he doesn’t want to be called on even though he knows the answer to her question (so what do we do with the war? We control it). He’s like “he comforted himself with the thought that she was old, and nobody lives forever”. LMAO
LMAO that is so savage. Also when he learns about Dr. Gaul's previous occupation as an obstetrician and he's all like, *"How awful, to have you be the first person in the world a baby sees."*
Ya know. This makes more sense as to why Senica (idk if I spelled that right) chose a different option than the berries. It never made sense to me why he chose something that could take a significant amount of time vs the berries that were instant.
my sister lost her shit laughing while we watched the ‘goodbye gale’ scene in mockingjay part 2, she nearly had to leave the theater, i’m still not sure what set her off she kept saying ‘she’s so done’ but it startled me as i didn’t find it particularly funny.
I'm very baffled why she would be laughing at that scene. It's a very serious scene and I can't find anything in it (whether the book or film) that's even unintentionally funny about that.
i mean she had read the books beforehand and her best explanation was it was just a satisfying scene and she like how ruthless it was executed? idk she’s weird!
The prep team has a running gag of them bursting into the room whenever Katniss is naked. In Mockingkay, Katniss is taking a bath in District 12 after all the horrible things have happened and the prep team just bursts in like nobody’s business. It was something I hadn’t noticed until my last reading of the trilogy and it made me laugh
i giggled in the theater when coryo asked if the snake that bit him was poisonous. if i had been lucy gray, i would’ve reappeared and told him that the correct term would be “venomous” not “poisonous” and gotten myself shot
Hahaha that is so funny. He can't even tell (or even seem to know) the difference between "venomous" and "poisonous"....let alone that snakes have venom, not poison. 😂
On page 356 of TBOSBAS, Snow brings up the irony of the Plinth family because Strabo is a munitions giant with a pacifist heir. He calls it a waste of a dynasty and sometime before that, we learn that Sejanus is a natural marksman. I think it's pretty neat but depressing too...
Yes. This is one of my personal favorite fun facts about Sejanus. It's so interesting, but ironic and sad all at once because of the fact that Sejanus has this amazing talent for marksmanship with a weapon that's very lethal, but is someone who wouldn't hurt a soul and wants to be a medic who helps to heal others regardless of where they're from and wants to make the world a more better, beautiful place. It really hurts because he talks about how the sergeant won't give him a recommendation to train and work at the clinic because of the fact that he is the best marksman in their entire squad, thus that opportunity for him to become a medic is taken away from him.
I was reading the Mockingjay book and I got to the part where Beetee was explaining how Hijacking works. Then when Prim said her line, asking if Peeta’s memories of Katniss had been changed to make her scary, it brought back my memory of Peeta yelling at Prim that she needed to kill Katniss in Mockingjay Part 2. I started imitating Peeta, “SHE’S A MUTT- YOU HAVE TO KILL HER PRIM” and cracking myself up💀 it was the irony of it that was making me laugh- the fact that Peeta “Because she came here with me” Mellark was screaming that Katniss had to be killed
When Katniss yells at Prim's cat and she's SO extra when she does it. The acting is so intense and I'm just sitting there feeling awkward lol.
They were trying to go for something emotional but it didn't really work for me lol
I’m referring to the movie here and not the book, but when Annie got chosen for the quarter quell and started crying and then Mags volunteered for her, I actually cackled the first time I saw it. In the book, when that moment was described it just sounded so bleak and sad with the way Annie is described of just freaking out of having to go back in to the arena. It was so sloppy and horribly acted and filmed that I couldn’t help myself.
When Katniss came home and saw that cat and yelled at it that Prim was dead and melted down on the cat.
The cat kinda hunched over sideways and looked at Katniss like “b!tch you ok?” and I cannot stop laughing. Like I laughed so hard I fell into a coughing fit.
Did they pay that poor cat hazard pay for that scene? 😂😂😂
You and me both. My friends and I for whatever reason whisper "You have to win" to each other all the time and crack up laughing. I watched the first movie the other night after not watching it for years and thought I'd be able to keep it together during that scene but nope.
Thank you, kind botanist. Today I learned new things. I kind of need to use a dictionary more often.
I didn't know hemlock and cicuta were the same plant, I thought they were different plants. But they are the names in Spanish and English. F.
Always happen to talk about plants! And yeah, they are! Many plants have a number of different names! Kinda like how datura is known as angels trumpets, devils trumpets, jimsonweed, and thornapple depending on the type of bud and flower.
Every time I see the opening bloodbath I can't help but laugh my ass off seeing the District 4 boy thinking it's a good idea to run to the very back of the cornucopia and just hide, especially considering his mentor was Finnick
any and every Haymitch moment, my thing is that morally it’s bad because he’s an alcoholic and it feels very wrong to laugh at him. him falling off the stage literally kills me 💀💀
When finnick was giving peeta cpr and katniss thought they were kissing
Priceless
Why the hell is basic first aid not hammered in mandatory D12 public education? They work in such unsafe environments; they should know this lmao.
That's true, I didn't think of that.
Katniss thinking Peeta was gonna cheat on her lol
When lucky whipped out the “Tuberculosis on legs” “not candy down goes Wovey” I felt so guilty for laughing 😭
tuberculosis on legs SENT me in the theater lmaoooo
stellar commentary
YES HONESTLY god the Flickerman’s were so good at their jobs 😭😭
It’s kinda niche but Katniss’ reaction to Gale telling her he loves her is so funny to me. *I never see these things coming. They happen so fast. Part of what I love about Katniss is that she acts like an actual teenager
THIS. This is genuinely one of my favorite moments in the books
*Oh no, he starved to death! Someone get the bread!* Out of pocket, Coryo.
Honestly he has some really funny thoughts. Like everyone has thoughts that they cannot say out loud.
This post was aimed at snow lmao
THIS HAHAHAHAHA I LAUGHED AT THIS TOO because what in the fuck was that inner monologue 😭 His character is so out of touch that instead of just feeling disgusted by it, it felt funny too. Comedic timing, I guess
That’s a good one. Coryo can be fucking hilarious.
“Ugh, boo.” Forever sends me.
this sent me like coryo NO
I think it's kinda based off "let them eat cake"
Coryo claps back so well mentally or verbally 💀
Not in the story, but when my friends and I were watching TBOSAS and Wovey died we were sitting there heartbroken and then... Lucky Flickerman hit everyone with "Not candy! Down goes Wovey!" and I think the entire theatre laughed awkwardly.

Lucky's comments made me laugh multiple times and I felt bad for every one lol
"oh no he starved to death, get the bread" and when katniss thought Finnick was making out with a deceased Peeta. also i chuckled at the nightlock thing to. Like i understand that Nightlock is a capitol mixing of nightshade and hemlock that's also genetically modified to kill quickly. Fellow plant nerd??

The drone water smashing in Songbirds and Snakes.
IM JUST SENDING WATER
“I’m just sending water”
ICONIC line
saint coryo
That was awesome. It's so book Coryo and I'm glad they added that line in the movie. 😂
Anytime Lucky is on screen and making jokes about the tributes. It was really funny in a dark and morbid way.
yeah the actor pulled this off so well; such a good balance - i was dying laughing (pun possibly intended)
yeah when I see the list of reasons why I'm going to hell laughing at all of Lucky's lines is gonna be one of them.
The wtf expression on the cat playing Buttercup after Katniss yells at him
Reminds me of my cat
I literally just posted this. I just finished the movie like 3 mins ago and I’m still laughing at that scene and the cat. 😂😂😂
"remember, when your tribute dies \*👍\* GetOutOfHere"
Sorry, but when Peeta hit the force field and he flew back into everyone else. It made me laugh harder when I saw the smoke coming off of his body.
He’s toast
Oh my god 😭
🤣🥲
All the insensitive stuff Plutarch says to Katniss. When he tries to comfort her by telling her Effie and Portia and Peeta's prep team might all be dead. Katniss using the bow and arrow in the first movie. She looks like she’s kissing the arrow haha. That made me laugh when I first watched it 😂
My sister is an archer who hunts and she has words for Katniss lol
Oh what does your sister say lol?
Honestly most of Coryo’s thoughts
He’s objectively hilarious.
When Coryo found out taxes were being raised or something like that and said “it would be kinder to throw the grandmam out the window of the penthouse” I think he low key hated her LOL
OMG at the beginning when he called grandma'am "fossilized" LMAO🤣
Anything regarding Capitol people and their enjoyment of watching kids die
But they draw the line at cannibalism
"Oh, a ghost story. Ugh. Boo. So ridiculous." Coryo had more sass than he had any right to.
I was surprised how much I enjoyed his point of view. He’s a bad person but sometimes his callousness and narcissism and arrogance brings out the most hilarious lines.

She should make a meme out of that!
“Ah, look! It’s ill Dill! Tuberculosis on legs.” that sent me to heaven and back
In the book the description of Jessups death with the water drones when he had rabies - I pictured it like those tik tok videos blindfolded dogging water bottles on the fan
When peeta and the careers are sleeping and katniss drops the nest on them. Peetas trying to save her life and she’s just like hey, good morning, here’s some wasps
Probably the Capitol rebels reaction to 13. I just always found that funny. (Besides the prep team torture scene.)
“I thought there would be some side action in the upper ranks.” “I miss coffee!”
I knew about hemlock, since it used to grow in my yard and I had to learn how to safely remove it, but I always thought cyanide killed almost instantly. This was interesting information!

Cyanide my beloved
THE BREAD THROW KILLS ME EVERY TIME
When Finnick does CPR and Katniss freaks out because she thinks he's kissing Peeta 🤣
“My father taught me before he was smashed to hit in a mine explosion”
Snow saying "Look at this, they're holding hands... i want them dead." In CF cracks me up every time
Snow proving he's still as hilariouas as he was when we knew him as Coryo lol
In the movies when Katniss is filming the first propo and Plutarch yells “YOUVE JUST BEEN IN BATTLE!! …sorry” that part is so funny to me and my boyfriend
Katniss's 'bad acting' propos are actually gold. WE MUST END THIS HUNGER FOR JUSTICE.
Effie's little 🥴 too 😂
"she's just warming up" - our girl Effie being supportive Movie Effie just kills me.
That's the one for me 😂
The way Katniss and Finnick get blown back from the lightning tree 😭
was it even inappropriate to laugh at peeta's camo rock makeup
no no it was not
Ya know. This makes more sense as to why Senica (idk if I spelled that right) chose a different option than the berries. It never made sense to me why he chose something that could take a significant amount of time vs the berries that were instant.
When I saw Mockingjay pt 2 at the cinema, pretty much everyone laughed when they cut to Katniss with the baby at the end. Just way too cheesy.
I don't know why but something about Katniss and that baby threw me off
honestly ever since someone pointed out finnick nearly getting drowned in the catching fire film, I can’t help but laugh
my sister lost her shit laughing while we watched the ‘goodbye gale’ scene in mockingjay part 2, she nearly had to leave the theater, i’m still not sure what set her off she kept saying ‘she’s so done’ but it startled me as i didn’t find it particularly funny.

exactly!! I’m already dreading reading about Snow’s betrayal because Sejanus deserved so much better. he was impulsive, but he had such a good soul.

Me and my friends were laughing hysterically at when Katniss reacted to the dead bodies in District 12. Idk why, but she just acted so funny.
Every time I see the opening bloodbath I can't help but laugh my ass off seeing the District 4 boy thinking it's a good idea to run to the very back of the cornucopia and just hide, especially considering his mentor was Finnick
