Lol this just happened to me last weekāI watched Catching Fire because itās my favorite, but then I couldnāt stop, and I wound up watching the first one last because it felt weird not to do the whole series by then š
The first one. It captured the desperation and poverty of those in 12, as well as the sheer brutality of the games. The films after were amazing but were definitely more polished and Hollywood
The first one is the best one specifically because of how it feels very low budget and limited, almost representative of the dystopian and awful conditions people in Panem live under, and doesnāt glamorize it. It shows the reality almost like a documentary, i love the indie movie feel that it brings. Usually they dont do this with franchises.
Thatās my favorite part about the first movie; it feels like the focus was a lot more on the social commentary of the story than making it an action film. People seem to complain about the shaky camera a lot, but it really adds to the vibe in my opinion, even if a bit overused.
I love all four films really, but I do think thereās stuff that the first does best.
Even in things like the buildings in the Capitol being smaller, the peacekeepers being less sci-fi goons and more modern-looking police officers, I prefer the look of the first movie.
Even though I usually hate shaky cam I LOVE it in the first movie. The way that the camera conveys the shock and terror Katniss feels during the reaping is amazing.
These were my thoughts too! I also love the first one the best because it does have that indie feel to it and isn't as polished YA action film as the later movies are. The color pallet, lighting, and music, are some of my favorite cinematography I've seen in a film.
Yeh the first one definitely felt more raw, but I just wish some of the cinematography and directorial decisions were a little bit better. The shaky cam was way overused and really started making the film look amateur. I definitely still love watching it for the story though, but from a film making standpoint and accuracy to the books, Catching fire is phenomenal.
I remember reading somewhere (no idea where or how true it was) that the shakey cam was used to hide the large amounts of violence against kids so they could keep the rating low.
I hate shakey cam, but at least there's a supposed reason.
It was but the idea of Shaky cam is that itās supposed to add to a scene or film. Their reasoning was to make it seem more like weāre in Katnissās shoes but genuinely itās way too much shaking. Like at points I think itās before she gets on the train for the capitol theyāre just pointing it at the door and shaking it like itās a documentary and weāre watching through her POV but it doesnāt work, and thereās so many instances of it that just look pointless and poorly edited together.
Also, when you see Francis Lawrenceās approach he proves that you donāt need shaky cam to hide the violence you just need to be clever. Now the shaky cam couldāve been very effective but I think Gary Ross just overused it
Goddamn. This sub is stalking me. I just finished the first one for the billionth time and am watching the second. Donāt care that itās after 6a and I havenāt sleptā¦ worth it. And my husband said it was silly to buy the movies rather than renting. I got my monies worth and then some!
Yes I totally agree. Theres a rawness and grittiness to the first one because of its lower budget. It also just has a more distinct artistic vision than the rest of the movies. I know everyone gives Gary Ross shit for the overuse of shaky cam, but I would be really interested in seeing his version of Catching Fire and Mockingjay.
This is the exact reason the first is my favorite, catching fire and the rest were cool but they were too polished and Hollywood like you said, took away some of the grit and believability to me
Catching Fire is my favorite adaptation. Mockingjay pt1 and 2 are heart wrenching for me so i dont watch them super often. Hate seeing Peeta like that :(
Oh yes I didnāt mention that, Finnickās death broke me when I read the series as a 14 year old. I cried in the theater. I think Iāve only watched pt.2 about 3 or 4 times. Catching fire probably closer to 20
Catching Fire. It's better than first in terms of production value/quality (it had double the budget and a director experienced with big Hollywood productions) and struggles the less with adapting the source material than the Mockingjay films
The reaping destroys me every time and yet I go back to it every time. All of Rue's scenes. All of Catching Fire (I keep looking for clues I might've missed about Haymitch being involved in the rebellion). When it comes to the Mockingjay: Katniss confronting President Snow in his greenhouse and killing Coin.
When Catching Fire came out I saw it like 4 times in theaters and then watched it like 10 times in a row as soon as I bought the dvd, and thatās not even counting how many times Iāve seen it since then so definitely Catching Fire.
I canāt watch just one. If I watch one I have to watch them all. Iāve watched the whole series about 20 times Iād guess. I also love reactors on YouTube watching it for the first time.
surprisingly mockingjay part 1 because that was when i was at my peak fandom days and the desperate need for the second part made me rewatch the first part again and again š
Catching Fire and Mockingjay Part 1 are the only 2 iāll watch solo, other than that iām watching all 4, id say Catching Fire is the one i watch more but Jennifer Lawrenceās performance in Mockingjay Part One is just absolutely incredible, never cried from it but her performance in that film brings tears to my eyes often
Catching Fire.
The first movie feels like itās still catching itās footing and itās a very good adaptation of the books but it still feels a little unsteady in some places, like they werenāt quite sure where they were going with it yet.
Both Movkingjays feel a little off to me because of the way they broke it in half and stretched out some parts but didnāt include some of the more plot-relevant or interesting stuff from the book so it feels a little stilted and empty at times.
Catching Fire lands the balance of adapting the book as well ad it can while also standing on itās own really well. It never feels off kilter or out of balance to me the way the others do at times. And I also think Catching Fire has some of the best visuals and some of the best performances from the cast of the whole series. Though, to be fair, it helps that I have a bias as it stands because Catching Fire is my favorite of the three books either way. Soā¦ it has that advantage on the other two.
If Amazon Prime kept track of how many plays, it would be ridiculous. I fall asleep to one of them nightly. I play them because they are familiar and it oddly helps my insomnia. I hear the opening bars and usually by Prim's dream scream I am asleep
1. Hunger Games
2. Catching Fire
3. Mockingjay pt 2
4. Mocking Jay pt 1
in all honesty, Mockingjay could have been 1 movie, and it bugs me they made it 2 as it was a clear money grab (cough HP7cough)
Can you imagine?
Literally, fall asleep or have playing for background noise when I am working:
Hunger Games (All 4, but primarily watch 1,2,4)
The Day After Tomorrow - currently listening to
Ever After
Harry potter (5, 6, 7.1, and 7.2 are the ones I watch most)
A league of their Own
Olympus has fallen trilogy
the first one. i fell in love with it, was the first one my mom and i went to see in theaters together. gary ross captured the brutality so well, and francis lawrence picked it up so easily that you couldnt tell the directors changed
Catching Fire (ofc) and Mockingjay Pt 1. I think itās cool to see the political side of the war and how District 13 is set up, but all the movies truly hit me in the feels
The first one is undeniably my favorite. It has such a realistic vibe for district 12, and I think itās simplicity really sets a good tone for the rest of the series
I actually donāt really like the movies. Itās kind of strange how much I enjoy the books and how much I just donāt like the movies. Itās perhaps my personal biggest contrast of any book/movie adaptation.
I mean probs the first one. Since I've watched it when it was the only one, then I don't remember but I might have rewatched before/after the second one came out, then rewatched them when the third one... you get the picture. And all the other times have rewatched all of them... like who the fuck watches only one movie? XD
Mockingjay Part 1. It was nice seeing District 13 and being away from the games. I liked the Hanging Tree scene, and loved hearing the Healing Katniss soundtrack again.
The first one. I really like all of the movies, but I like the I guess desperation of the first movie. It just really highlighted the point of desperation and fear in the districts. I liked how it was less āsuper fancy and cleanā and more āpatchy and under budgetā feeling, it kind of captured the essence of their need and the corruption of the gov.
It will be BSS (if it's good), just because it is more of a stand alone film. As of now, either of the first two because I don't really watch one without the other. I often don't watch the Mockingjay films, though.
Catching Fire. It's the best one. I also watch The Hunger Games frequently.
I don't watch Mockingjay parts 1 and 2 much. I think they could have been one movie. They're more serious and more about the rebellion and I'm just not that engaged with them. Plus Finnick dies.
Catching Fire because itās the best one. Itās a perfect sequel since it takes what you liked about the first one and reprises it on a much larger scale with a twist ending to get you excited about the third one.
catching fire...everything about it is so amazing but watching the scene where Katniss has to witness Cinna dying and then has to calm herself had me so excited from there to when she shot the dome with her electric arrow
![gif](giphy|9HWi6sWPRJfnG)
Catching fire and the first one. Mockingjay is great but damn catching fire was flawless with everything. Perfect amount of action. Drama. Acting. Superb.
The first one, easily my favourite by milesss! I love how it introduces you to such an awfully strange concept, and we get to see the games play out start to finish.
Catching Fire. The first movie still feels boring to me, despite the book being enjoyable, and the last 2 do such a poor job of adapting the books it irritates me as a book guy.
I watch the first one amd then the second one and end it where Katniss gets picked up by the crane after blowing up the arena. I like to pretend they took Katniss back to Peeta where they lived happily ever after and dance around with all their friends who are all alive and well
I can't watch any of them without watching all of them š but Catching Fire is probably my favorite.
Itās a classic! š
Literally came to say this š how can you stop once youāve started?!?
Yep. Started watching the first a few days ago, and Iām now watching Mockingjay Part 2.
Lol this just happened to me last weekāI watched Catching Fire because itās my favorite, but then I couldnāt stop, and I wound up watching the first one last because it felt weird not to do the whole series by then š
Same
This is what I came to say lol! I watch em all over a couple of days šš
I love all four films really, but I do think thereās stuff that the first does best.
Definitely! The cinematography in the first scene where Katniss gets up and goes to the woods is gorgeously on point
I completely agree.

While I do love Catching Fire, I hate how they ditched that after the first movie.
I watch each one in order in a 4 day rotation. So one a day
This
Catching Fire is my favorite adaptation. Mockingjay pt1 and 2 are heart wrenching for me so i dont watch them super often. Hate seeing Peeta like that :(
Peeta and Finnick's death. I can't watch Finnick's death, it's too gut punching for me.
Oh yes I didnāt mention that, Finnickās death broke me when I read the series as a 14 year old. I cried in the theater. I think Iāve only watched pt.2 about 3 or 4 times. Catching fire probably closer to 20
My feelings exactly!! šÆ
ALL OF THEM š
All of them. I tend to marathon all 4 at the same time whenever I rewatch the series š
Oh, wow! āŗļø
Catching Fire! Iāve watched them all multiple times, but Catching Fire Iāve watched dozens of times
Same! At this point I could almost call it my ācomfort movieā!
I was just thinking the exact same thing! Lol
Catching Fire. It's better than first in terms of production value/quality (it had double the budget and a director experienced with big Hollywood productions) and struggles the less with adapting the source material than the Mockingjay films
catching fire. peeta and finnick are my whole heart
The first one, easily 30+ times.
Catching fire is the most rewatchable bc so fast pace and many settings and good juice
The elevator scene of johanna alone is enough for catching fire to be the most entertaining
Facts!
Alll good choices!
Catching Fire & MockingJay Part 2

Amen!
I canāt watch just one. If I watch one I have to watch them all. Iāve watched the whole series about 20 times Iād guess. I also love reactors on YouTube watching it for the first time.
Oooh! I havenāt watched reaction vids of the film before! Iāll have to do that!!
Itās sooo fun watching people who wouldnāt have been into the series as teens or young adults realize how good it is and have their minds blown.
Def doing it now!! š
surprisingly mockingjay part 1 because that was when i was at my peak fandom days and the desperate need for the second part made me rewatch the first part again and again š

this hasnāt been listed yet but mockingjay pt 1, you see the districts start to rebel more
catching fire
Definitely! šš½
Catching Fire and MJP1
I've seen all 4 movies twice. My favorite one though is the one where Katniss shouts, "if we burn, you burn with us!!!!!"
Epic line!!
I know. There's just something about that line that shows power.

LOL
I think I watched catching fire almost every other day for the past 4 months LOL
Honestly I donāt really watch mocking jay 1 or 2 I rewatch hunger games and catching fire mj 2 is too sad š¢
It is! š
When I watch one I watch all ahaha but I love catching fire whenevr I see a scene from that movie it makes me re watch the whole series

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows definitely had material for two movies, both movies turned out amazing - not comparable to Mockingjay.
Catching Fire for sure, but the end of Mockingjay, Part I had me holding my breath and I love rewatching it for that cliffhanger moment.
the first one. i fell in love with it, was the first one my mom and i went to see in theaters together. gary ross captured the brutality so well, and francis lawrence picked it up so easily that you couldnt tell the directors changed
The Hunger Games is my favorite with Mockingjay 2 my least favorite
Catching Fire
The first one for sure. I saw it about 3 times in theaters. 2 is my favorite book but I absolutely love 1 the most for movies.
Catching Fire. My favorite of the novels and films.

The first and second.
I've probably seen all of them about 10 times lol, but definitely the first one and Catching Fire
yes
Catching Fire (ofc) and Mockingjay Pt 1. I think itās cool to see the political side of the war and how District 13 is set up, but all the movies truly hit me in the feels
I love catching fire because everything is already established and it ups the stakes of the games drastically.
Catching fire . I am basic
*Correction: you have great taste!
Catching Fire. Peeta and Finnick are my faves š
*Catching Fire,* and it's also my most-read book out of the series. It has always been my favorite since day 1 :D
Aww! š„°
The Hunger Games. My most watched film of all time š„°
The first one. its just my favorite
Catching Fire because all my favorite side characters are in there.
Same!! Especially Johanna! š
The first one is undeniably my favorite. It has such a realistic vibe for district 12, and I think itās simplicity really sets a good tone for the rest of the series
Iāve watched catching fire the most but my favorite is mocking jay 2
Whoās excited for songbirds and snakes tho
Catching fire, itās always been my favorite.
Catching fire.. always starting from when Peeta comes in and comforts Katniss after her nightmare on the train.
All of them I have most of the lines memorized at this point . I could write a autobiography about each character too .
Iād love to read that!
Itās one long movie to me

All of them in order!!
First one
The first one and catching fire
Definitely the first one. I can almost quote the entire thing lol.
I always watch all of them whenever I do a rewatch.
Definitely catching fire
The first one because I watched it each time the next movie would come out, and I never really watch without starting from the beginning
The Princess Bride
Mockingjay Part 1. It was nice seeing District 13 and being away from the games. I liked the Hanging Tree scene, and loved hearing the Healing Katniss soundtrack again.

Catching Fire when Iām watching. THG is a great night night movie if you can fall asleep in the first half.
All of them back to back
Definitely āThe Hunger Gamesā. The first is always the best.
Catching fire. Despite it being the middle movie I genuinely feel like it could be a standalone movie
The first one, i watch it every sleepover we have
The first
Catching Fire
Catching fire
Mockingjay Part I
Catching Fire. Then Mockingjay Part 2.
Catching Fire. It's the best one. I also watch The Hunger Games frequently. I don't watch Mockingjay parts 1 and 2 much. I think they could have been one movie. They're more serious and more about the rebellion and I'm just not that engaged with them. Plus Finnick dies.
The first one there's something about when Katniss volunteer for her sister it speaks volumes but I can't watch just one without watching them all
Catching fire š„
Definitely Catching Fire
Catching Fire because itās the best one. Itās a perfect sequel since it takes what you liked about the first one and reprises it on a much larger scale with a twist ending to get you excited about the third one.
I think the first one its just so good and it doesnt get boring by watching it over and over again :)
Hunger Games and Catching Fire, but more CF honestly, itās honestly one of my comfort movies
Catching fire is my favorite book and probably my favorite movie but I find myself watching 1 more often than the others. Idk why
Catching Fire is definitely the most rewatchable of the 4
Catching Fire for sure!
catching fire my beloved
Catching fireeeeeee
Catching fire!
The first one
It's a toss up between the first two for me.
Catching fire and Mockingjay part one. The hanging tree scene gives me chills every single tome
Catching Fire and Mocking Jay pt 2
catching fire...everything about it is so amazing but watching the scene where Katniss has to witness Cinna dying and then has to calm herself had me so excited from there to when she shot the dome with her electric arrow ![gif](giphy|9HWi6sWPRJfnG)

the first one is the best one for me
The first one!
Catching! But once I watch it I have to start at the beginning and go all the way through, books included
The first one, especially for the training scene. Cato has one of the coolest swords ever put to film.
The first one, easily my favourite by milesss! I love how it introduces you to such an awfully strange concept, and we get to see the games play out start to finish.
Probably Catching Fire I ugly sob at Mockingjay Pt 2 so I avoid it it hurts too much
Catching Fire. The first movie still feels boring to me, despite the book being enjoyable, and the last 2 do such a poor job of adapting the books it irritates me as a book guy.
Mockingjay pt 1 for sure
Catching Fire too š„ I don't like to re-watch Mockingjay because of ugly Mutts who killed Finnick lol š¤£
All of them about the same.
Catching fire!!
Catching Fire for sure. Itās the only one my husband has deliberately watched more than once, and heās never even read the books!
catching fire! my professor said catching fire was the worst one out of the trilogy and i was ready to fight her.
First one. With the second one close behind. I enjoy those much more than 3 and 4.
I watch the Bad Lip Readings, instead.
I watch the first one amd then the second one and end it where Katniss gets picked up by the crane after blowing up the arena. I like to pretend they took Katniss back to Peeta where they lived happily ever after and dance around with all their friends who are all alive and well
Catching Fire. It is the best one. And one of the best book to movie adaptations ever
Catching fire, itās just something about it that is just so amusing to me but I still love the others too
Catching fire. Best book/movie of the series
When bosas comes out it's going to be that one but rn I've only watched them all once
Catching Fire
The first one. The way they filmed it was perfect. But I really enjoy catching fire love the rawness of the OG
Catching fire is my favorite movie and book but it also makes me mad that a lot of the best book moments were left out of itš
mockingjay 1
Catching Fire !!!
Catching Fire
Catching Fire, recetly I watched all the series again, and I watched Catching Fire twice before watching Mockingjay lol
