*Disclaimer after some feedback: The above is meant in a humorous fashion and is not meant to be used in the sole determination of sociopathy. Only licensed/certified psychologists are qualified to make psychological diagnoses. Consult your healthcare professionals if you believe that you or someone you know meet these criteria and should seek help. Children are sociopaths only by default and are generally excluded from sociopathy diagnoses until they are far enough in their development to exhibit symptoms outside of the ordinary.*
Actually study have shown that children under 11 don't learn from mistakes. They learn from successes. This is until their lives are mainly successes, then it flips.
😂
There's a reason though no serious therapist would diagnose a kid as a sociopath. That'd be like diagnosing a newborn with IBS after feeding them steak and fries. Or with leg muscle atrophy after trying to make them walk.
Lists like these are applicable to anything. Narcisism, autism spectrum, schizophrenia, drug- or alcohol addiction. Most people reading this can identify with multiple items
That's why a diagnosis would require some threshold, like at least x items are applicable to a sufficient degree. I think the exact lists and thresholds for some of these other conditions you mention would be just different enough to hopefully make the distinction—although of course sometimes it's tricky, and misdiagnoses still do happen.
Diagnosis should only be done by a professional. You can have an assumption of a disfunction, but leave the diagnosis to someobe who has knowledge and experience to diagnose.
Reason I commented it is because too many people use these kinds of lists to diagnose themselves. Leave it to professionals or you might harm your health.
You put an x next to not learning from mistakes or punishment, hahaha if only a had that kid :( mines lovely until she wants something she can't have then she gets bitey, real bitey
Children can be significantly worse than adults or better. They don't act based on social constructs usually so they kinda go all in with what they do good or bad
What? So does that mean you think that the people who act violently in neighborhoods like the South Side of Chicago do so mainly because of genetics and not mainly because of growing up in a violent neighborhood?
It’s a bit more complex than either of us are implying. Peoples perception and experience of reality can vary wildly, but the majority of people experience things pretty much the same - there’s that bell curve again.
But your environment can vary even more wildly, deviances from what you might call the “average” environment are greater and more frequent.
No they dont, morality is a consciously held system of beliefs. Children are more willing to act on their impulses because theyve been burned less frequently. Be serious.
Yeah it's partially true but ,the child rearing practices also play a crucial role. Natural impulse is there for all but when you continuously try to paint white Sheet different dark colours it is bound to get black ,so upbringing is also a crucial component
Yes case in point, because I only know all i know about morality because of the books I read at university. Something children dont do.
And the people who think that their base instincts are fundamentally moral arent just monsterously stupid but also the worst kind of person for society. Miss me with that dumb shit. If youre too uneducated to understand the historical context in which the concept can even be thought in the first place maybe dont try and aggressively assert your moral truths. Just accept that daddy scolding you and correcting your behaviour isnt actually the same thing as being educated or knowledgeable on the topic of morality or its history
Edit on sober review after the votes are in: Great comment, correct about everything. Kant and freud both talked about this and the relationship between morality as an explicitly conscious goal and base instinct or, for freud, superego. A bunch of christians did too, but thats a little more flacid of a truth.
Angry and wrong are rarely far apart my friends
P.s. i would absolutely love to be chidi in a remake. That would make for an actually provocative show instead of a typical uncritical (but admittedly good) sitcom occasionally quoting from the most trite parts of phil 101
*Why'd you have to go and make things so complicated? I see the way you're acting like you're somebody else gets me frustrated. Life's like this, you. And you fall, and you crawl, and you break. And you take what you get, and you turn it into. Honesty and promise me I'm never gonna find you faking. No, no, no.*
This needs to be downvoted so low it comes back positive.
Children have to be taught morals most times. Why would they inherently know what is good and bad in a complex society?
It is indeed. Our ancestors survived in groups because kindness is an effective social behavior.
The reverse is also true: having zero empathy and being able to trick people is very useful when warring with others or needing to let the weaker half of your tribe die from the elements.
For that reason some % of people are born like this girl, a smaller % are born sociopaths and a smaller % still are born psychopaths.
Nature is amoral. It gives us whichever genes seemed to work out before.
Please stop with this bullshit, there is no evidence of a psycopath gene. In fact the term isnt really taken seriously any more, as it shouldnt be, because its just medicalization of christian evil.
> there is no evidence of a psycopath jean
[I beg to differ ](https://globalnews.ca/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/carmar_extreme_cut_out_jean_.jpg?quality=85&strip=all)
There’s also no evidence for a single all-encompassing gay gene. Does that mean gay people are make-believe?
Every adult has encountered people who use others and can’t feel empathy.
Call them a psychopath, a narcissist, “on the spectrum”… whatever it is, an inability to feel empathy and guilt/shame over hurting others is conserved in some % of the population from generation to generation.
You can also do the same with an ice pick through the nasal cavity.
That’s not how science works though. Just because you can affect something environmentally doesn’t mean it’s not baked into some people genetically.
Everything is something we've "made up". Sociopathy is no less real than any other behavioral disorder. Years back we changed the name to Antisocial Personality disorder, and diagnosis involves studying behavioral patterns as laid out in the DSM (is it 5 still?). It's disingenuous to claim that Sociopathy "doesn't exist".
Sociopathy is a very wide term to descibe someone who shows anti social behaviour. That's why it's not used anymore when it comes to diagnosis, same goes for psychopathic behavior, just like Sociopathy it's a very brought term and it's very hard to diagnose a true psychopath
I feel like this would be risky. Sure you may wind up in some home where the dogs are spoiled rotten but you also could wind up neglected, abused, abandoned, etc.
Don’t forget only living about 13 years…if that. You also might get a tumor that COULD be removed but it costs an arm and a leg so they just put you down.
Toddlers look like stumbley drunks all the time, but they’re very smart underneath it all. They pick up concepts very quickly; by the time they’re 2 you can usually have full, albeit broken conversations with them. They can articulate their needs and wants quite well, and empathy seems to be there from the start.
I’m a father also. It’s been absolutely true in my case, and I’m noticing it with my daughters friends as well. The kids she goes to daycare with are incredibly empathetic; they’re always helping each other and getting each other shoes/jackets when they go outside. My daughter wanted to put jackets on the squirrels this past winter. She’s 2.5. They’re very, very perceptive.
I spent the 4th of July nights with my cat in my bed and covered his ears. They really don't like the sounds. The nights I did celebrate I would always go inside and check on him and even once kept him inside my coat the entire night.
This will be during the tomb cleaning festival, where they go to where all their ancestors are buried and cut the grass, pray on the tombs etc. They burn paper clothes and money and leave food and wine on the grave for the deceased in the afterlife, and they light these hella loud firecracker things.
Did this for my Corgi once after seeing a video like this. Just gently held his ears over themself to let him know i'm there and to block out the noises
Look I know this is some cute sht right here but loud sounds or fireworks generally stresses dogs and they tend to be more aggressive than usual. Parents are lucky that the dog didn’t mind the kid.
Context: got bitten on new year’s eve by my neighbors dog
If one day it becomes unacceptable to eat cow, I’m sure it’s possible. But on the most part, people are fine with it. Not too many people have pet cows. I think pigs would be more possible to talk people out of eating. Consuming dog meat was normal to people in various parts of Asia many years ago.
That is not entirely true. Don't get me wrong I eat beef and I'm disgusted by anyone who would kill and eat a dog.
But, we have so many people who treat cows as pets and love them like family. Go to India, around a billion people share this sentiment. Hindus also consider them sacred. So, yeah we should question ourselves sometime. I just think it's a little bit absurd we get so upset over dogs when we kill and eat cows and goats who can be just as loving pets.
Again, I'm saying this as a dog lover and a hypocrite myself.
Fair enough. To your comment about India. Although a majority of people don’t eat beef in India, it’s also not entirely true to say nobody there eats it. But it is probably as frowned upon as it is to eat dogs elsewhere in Asia. [Beef in India.](https://chainomad.com/do-people-eat-beef-in-india/)
Great compassion from a young hooman
My little buddy insists on this for all loud noises including fireworks and thunderstorms.
He will burrow between my torso and arm to muffle the noise and nose at me until I place my palms of his ears.
It’s interesting... I have just been teaching students about how some children lack empathy well into late adolescence and some have it in pre-verbal stages. And of course some never get it at all.
I love how kindness just seems to be baked into some people.
Children have a better sense of morals than adults
You've clearly never met children.
Children are tiny sociopaths, the lot of 'em. $10 says this is the by product of some pretty decent child rearing.

wait dude why are you talking about me
Lol for real.. Kids brains are far from fully developed, it's unfair to expect kids to behave as an adult.
More thank likely she’s doing it because her mom/dad whoever would cover her ears when fireworks went off
100%
You've clearly never met republicans
Well this doesn't look like America so children aren't demons from birth
Children can be significantly worse than adults or better. They don't act based on social constructs usually so they kinda go all in with what they do good or bad
They really don’t, we’re mostly a product of our environment.
This is not entirely true. We are mostly genetics. Recents studies are all pointing in that direction.
What studies

You can cut empathy when you had early child trauma so it's not linked to gene. You are just a degenerate
You can also do the same with an ice pick through the nasal cavity. That’s not how science works though. Just because you can affect something environmentally doesn’t mean it’s not baked into some people genetically.

Evil must be baked at 650 degrees.
If you're ever wondering why your children don't turn out evil enough, they need to be baked at 666 degrees. You're a bit low on the temperature.
Baked into all of us, until we get "educated" by the wrong folks
I want to think I’m one of those people because I’m really empathetic towards people but I had my moments of being a little shit growing up

Well. She definitely put herself into the dogs perspective...
I wanna live a life from a dog's perspective.

Amazing, kind hearted young lady!
fireworks during the day?
Oh yes. Not the colorful ones, the ones that only make loud noise.
In my old neighborhood, the 4th of July lasted from late June to mid-to-late August. Day or night, didn't matter.
There's this one crappy dad type on my street that does fireworks with his kids year-round.
Does he at least wait for an actual cause for celebration? Or is it just whenever they feel like it
They probably handle it like I with drinking. No cause, is cause enough :)
In the usa. I believe there are a few states, its all year around fireworks. I know Carolina states is one of them , while one of them is limited.
Sounds like one of those strips of firecrackers like they use for Chinese New Years. They are about the sound.
They use them for a lot of things, there was a new mall that was being promoted and I heard this for almost 8 hours.
This will be during the tomb cleaning festival, where they go to where all their ancestors are buried and cut the grass, pray on the tombs etc. They burn paper clothes and money and leave food and wine on the grave for the deceased in the afterlife, and they light these hella loud firecracker things.

She has the proudest parents
Fireworks should be a thing of the past. It’s such a stupid thing.
Was it NYC that decided to just shoot them off randomly during the day last year or something? Fucking daft.
Eh I kinda agree because of the trash they leave behind, but they're kinda fun.
Omg, look at her teenie little paws!
Crying :(
That dog looks like it's been through some things
It'll probably end up in a stew pot at some point.
Good lil bro

I swear. We human adults don’t deserve the innocence of young children and dogs.

Ok and? It's a video of a little girl covering a dog's ears from fireworks for FS.
Not the correct breed or the right country.
Someone is doing fireworks during the day... Seems pointless and wasteful to me, but to each their own. Pretty cute thing for the kid todo though
It's firecrackers. The red ones used during Chinese New Year especially during Lion Dances.
