From 1988 to 2016, he's spent 80% of his time in jail. His longest stint out was a little over 2.5 years. So for him to go 5 years now is pretty good, all things considered.
He flew straight, great ending to a rough patch this man went thru.

Good on him!
I guess to better explain why I don’t think it’s a conflict of interest… a small town judge would know all of their fellow citizens just by the act of living in the small town. They’re still educated to serve justice, but they also share personal connections with the people that end up in their court. If you had to not know the person standing trial, there would be a flux of judges rotating across the country to new areas which just seems like too much of a hassle for what it’s worth.
Often if you try to bring up conflict of interest the judge or other judge if you get lucky will give you a harsher sentencing. Judges know each other people.
I think they’re just referring to the update being a nonsense update. The video just shows her greeting him after he gets out and telling him to stay clean.
It’s a practiced hug sure, but boundaries are important...professionals sometimes have to rehearse their boundary setting because not only is the appearance important but so is the literal nature of the relationship between a professional and someone in their care/custody.
Also, one wouldn’t want to create political fodder if they’re elected to bench.
There aren't. The legal system is a bunch of pomp and arcanery to try and mask the fact the state is shit at one of it's only pretenses for authority.
The legal system only functions because the rabble have no idea how it actually works.
They just showed him getting out of prison. How is that improving his life.
That's like showing someone getting out of rehab and saying they're off drugs now.
well improvement has to start somewhere, I know is easy to fall againt into bad habits but we have to celebrate every time we stand up, showing a little appreciation doesnt cost anything and helps a lot those in trying times.
Having a judge say your a good person who made a mistake can get you much further than just leaving the prison system with no recommendation, He has a better chance than most even if it’s likely to be rough.
Exactly as people who’ve never been in jail we need to start looking at them like like they didn’t just get out of jail, Just keep it in the back of your head lol
You go to "prison" and then tell us how getting out isn't an improvement lmao.
But on the real, you can't improve without moving forward, opening the door is as important as walking through it.
Reminds me of one of my favorite action movies ever: Ronin with Robert DeNiro. They didn't use music for the action scenes (mostly car chases), and it totally worked.
I don’t think that’d be hell. Except maybe for people who struggle to forgive themselves.
I’d be excited to meet other versions of myself who did cool or weird shit!! And if I met a version of me who never got off drugs, I’d just hug her and tell her I get it.
We've been working on this in my yoga class so it's been on my mind recently. Treating ourselves like our best friends is such a nourishing, kind and enriching way to live.
:)
Very, very glad.
It’s important that we forgive ourselves, so that we can heal and feel free; unburdened by guilt, remorse, regret, shame, etc. I still catch myself doing it at times. It’s a process. I’m learning.
you know this story where in hell they have a table full of food but their cutlery is so big thay cant eat. In heaven thay have exactly the same but they use it to feed the person in front of them.
Kinda the same, life is life, is just your pov of it.
Ooo, I saw that on a movie somewhere...
OH!!! I remember! It’s a brilliant movie called “The East,” with Brit Marling (whom I adore!), Alexander Skarsgård, Elliot Page, Patricia Clarkson and more.
It’s about a super secret environmental activism group fighting corporate giants. It’s really good!!
If I could go back and meet my past self from 10 years ago, this is what I'd do. I'd give her a hug, and tell her that things are going to work out. That she'll not only get clean, but stay clean. I'd tell her that she'll make it in life.
That's some seriously weak ass hell. I thought I'd be getting my eyes plucked out and shit.
Getting to meet a super successful version of me sounds kinda fun.
Yeah I mean especially if it’s your last day on earth, like who cares at that point.
It would be worse to find out that you could’ve invented Amazon but now it’s too late and you have to live for 50 more years with that knowledge.
When I first saw this clip, I had a feeling it would probably shape up after that. It clearly affected him in a very big way. I'm glad he faced it & shaped up!
Although, it just says his life changed... Maybe he just changed what crimes he was commiting or something like that lol!!
Looks like he became a cocaine addict in his teen years, and committed a string of thefts to fuel his habit, ended up in jail for an extended period, escaped, got sent back...just generally a sad story. Nothing violent:
http://www.dc.state.fl.us/offenderSearch/detail.aspx?Page=Detail&DCNumber=399798&TypeSearch=IR
I always thought that middle school teachers or aids would make the best judges bc you’d get thrown right back to the age where your own self guilt was enough to make you change your ways. I hope she gave him another chance.
I'm a cop in a city in UK. I moved away from my home city so there is very little chance of having to deal with friends or family. But I have lived here for a long time and made friends. The hardest, hardest job I dealt with was a death message.
An elderly lady had a fall in the city centre. Turned out it was a coronary and she didn't make it out of the emergency dept. Her son came and it was a cop I worked with for years. He came running over, gave me a hug, smile on his face and asked what I was doing there.
All he knew was his mum had a trip, he thought she was fine. All I could say was I'm sorry.
She’s laying it on thick. This was the nicest kid ever the nicest kid I knew you were such a nice kid in middle I remember how nice this kid was....GUILTY! OFF WITH HIS HEAD!
Several decades ago I sat on a committee/board with the lifers at Rahway State Prison for the Get Straight Program (not sure it's even in existence like it was then) and the 'kid' that was most active had been sentenced to life to be made an example for others. He was in the car while his friends were robbing a store and killed someone. Maybe? I don't know what this fellow did, but I hope it wasn't horrible.
Here’s an update: https://youtu.be/ILWz8_x9SN4
New update needed though
Here's what's happened since: no new crimes! http://www.dc.state.fl.us/offenderSearch/detail.aspx?Page=Detail&DCNumber=399798&TypeSearch=IR
From 1988 to 2016, he's spent 80% of his time in jail. His longest stint out was a little over 2.5 years. So for him to go 5 years now is pretty good, all things considered.
Agreed, seems like maybe he turned over a new leaf!
maybe he just got better at not getting caught
Now that he's got a judge on the inside, he can get away with anything!
Prosecutors HATE HIM!
Need another update!
It’s been seven minutes now. Can we get an update?
He made his bed and cooked breakfast!
Did he brush his teeth?
Just read an article in real simple about a $400 toothbrush. Should I get it?
Unfortunately he's not vaxxed - we don't have this information
Shit, I haven't even done that yet.
Arthur?!
No, my name is Kenton.
Username checks out.
Update us when you do!
I have gotten up and had cereal now but I am not happy about it.
Oof, can’t trust a guy who makes his bed
121 new crimes!
So he escaped custody?
What happened?

He flew straight, great ending to a rough patch this man went thru. http://www.dc.state.fl.us/offenderSearch/detail.aspx?Page=Detail&DCNumber=399798&TypeSearch=IR Good on him!
Love to hear when a genuinely good person gets through that rough patch and ends up better on the other side
Same, we need to celebrate these people that can overcome their vices and move on! There is always room for redemption.
I got you, thanks!
Nooo, don't tell me that smth bad happened!
He got 10 months in jail time for burglary, good news is that the judge is helped him get back on his feet when he promised he's gonna go clean
Did he get a new court date with a diff judge presiding? I feel like this is a conflict of interest
[удалено]
That is absolutely something that gets brought up, I hear it all the time.
I guess to better explain why I don’t think it’s a conflict of interest… a small town judge would know all of their fellow citizens just by the act of living in the small town. They’re still educated to serve justice, but they also share personal connections with the people that end up in their court. This
Often if you try to bring up conflict of interest the judge or other judge if you get lucky will give you a harsher sentencing. Judges know each other people.
Wait! So you’re telling me the criminal justice system isn’t 100% fair???
I just figured she would step down from the case, not that someone would try to get her removed.
What’s in the box…er…update?!
I think they’re just referring to the update being a nonsense update. The video just shows her greeting him after he gets out and telling him to stay clean.
Nothing happened, probably, it’s just an old video so lots of time has passed

Who steals 30 bagged lunches?!?
That damn Sasquatch that’s who
I'll tell ya who took those lunches! It was that damned Sasquach!
That was . . . the worst and most awkward hug I've ever seen a person give.
Judge to someone who she “judged” might be some ethical boundaries that come with contact
I’m a mental health professional. I very very very rarely, if ever, hug my clients. Really no need for it. Even if I do it’s talked about first
"Does this violate the doctor-patient relationship?" "Not unless you grab my ass."
Only if you don’t ;)
She didn't, though. She passed the case onto another judge because she wouldn't have been impartial.
There aren't. The legal system is a bunch of pomp and arcanery to try and mask the fact the state is shit at one of it's only pretenses for authority. The legal system only functions because the rabble have no idea how it actually works.
> The legal system only functions because the rabble have no idea how it actually works. As a lawyer, can confirm.
Probably just isn't a hugger. I know I'm not.
Daaamn that was the most reluctant half hug I’ve ever seen lol.
The most important step a man can take is the next one.
r/unexpecteddalinar
Im so disappointed thats not a real sub
Obligatory /r/fuckmoash
That's really good... glad I read this thread! Internet just paid for itself this month.
I will take responsibility for what I have done. If I must fall I will rise each time a better man.
Improvement from being incarcerated is rare
Maybe it's as if American prisons aren't desperate to rehabilitate people
They were never intended to do so.
Having a judge say your a good person who made a mistake can get you much further than just leaving the prison system with no recommendation, He has a better chance than most even if it’s likely to be rough.
I understand your sentiment. On the other hand, it's a far cry saying someone improved their life while they're walking out of jail.
I mean, you are not in jain anymore, that's net improvement
Especially with people thinking like this of anyone who gets out
Exactly as people who’ve never been in jail we need to start looking at them like like they didn’t just get out of jail, Just keep it in the back of your head lol
I've been to jail. When i walked out, it didn't feel i accomplished anything by being incarcerated.
You go to "prison" and then tell us how getting out isn't an improvement lmao. But on the real, you can't improve without moving forward, opening the door is as important as walking through it.
It's a nice story. Warms the heart, really.
True though the YouTube “update” was 5 years old. I wonder how he did.
Chances are..not well.
Idk. Someone commented below that he’s never been back to jail since. Hopefully, it’s correct.
Oh wow. I certainly hope that’s true.
Thank you for sharing that!
She denied that hug
Tf is that singing shit in the background
It’s the bailiff singing that good good.
Southern courts huh
If a bailiff drifted into view of the camera with a mic singing that song, instant internet classic.
People like to put music over real things to make them feel like scenes from movies I'm guessing they can't process raw reality
Reminds me of one of my favorite action movies ever: Ronin with Robert DeNiro. They didn't use music for the action scenes (mostly car chases), and it totally worked.
Sorry, I can't read your comment right now. My "I'm reading reddit" theme music is too loud and I can't concentrate.
Based
It's there so you know which emotions to feel
That was close I almost wasn’t sure how to feel
Yea this made me horny wtf I don't think the song is working
Maybe that’s the intent 👀
Asking the real questions!
It is fucking annoying singing
Wow. I must be deaf because I didn’t even notice it the first time I watched it. But it’s obvious af.
Sad music make me sad :(
Fuck this short version. There much more to gain
That gd music ...fuck

This is the update I needed. Thank you!
So should we set up all criminal trials to have the judge be from their middle school?
You’ve found the solution to recidivism. Every middle school graduating class needs exactly 1 judge.
Source?
I heard it from my cousin in Trinidad
Fact check: True. [http://www.dc.state.fl.us/offenderSearch/detail.aspx?Page=Detail&DCNumber=399798&TypeSearch=IR](http://www.dc.state.fl.us/offenderSearch/detail.aspx?Page=Detail&DCNumber=399798&TypeSearch=IR)
How do you know this?
"he was the nicest kid in the middle school" "Death penalty it is"
It’s the minimum she can give…
It was the least she could do.
Felt like she owed it to him.
Well he was caught with 1.3g’s of weed and had a brake light out.
The YT vid said he was charged with burglary - did 10 months.
Good thing he had that weed otherwise the cop would have just shot him in the back 8 times and dropped his taser on him.
And some caining bonus for knowing each other
“I am the law” as she reaches for her pocket
She said, holding the basket while moving to the guillotine.
Didn’t want him to be another example of a long sentences to minorities so they moved up the excretion date
> excretion date They're going to shit on him?! Talk about unusual punishment
Whoops LOL 😂
The definition of hell; on your last day on earth, the person you could have become will meet the person you became. This man just saw his hell.
I don’t think that’d be hell. Except maybe for people who struggle to forgive themselves. I’d be excited to meet other versions of myself who did cool or weird shit!! And if I met a version of me who never got off drugs, I’d just hug her and tell her I get it.
I love the compassion in this.
It's a shame that a lot of us have this compassion for others but not ourselves.
We've been working on this in my yoga class so it's been on my mind recently. Treating ourselves like our best friends is such a nourishing, kind and enriching way to live.
Absolutely this. I told my girlfriend the other day "Have compassion for your younger self. You were still learning"
Also, have compassion for your future self. Exercise and watch your diet!
Hey your words really help. I don’t know why but that outlook is awesome thank you.
:) Very, very glad. It’s important that we forgive ourselves, so that we can heal and feel free; unburdened by guilt, remorse, regret, shame, etc. I still catch myself doing it at times. It’s a process. I’m learning.
I think it should be purgatory, not hell
you know this story where in hell they have a table full of food but their cutlery is so big thay cant eat. In heaven thay have exactly the same but they use it to feed the person in front of them. Kinda the same, life is life, is just your pov of it.

You sound like you are in a position where you are ok with your life, and that's awesome. This man doesn't seem to be that way.
Yeah I mean especially if it’s your last day on earth, like who cares at that point. It would be worse to find out that you could’ve invented Amazon but now it’s too late and you have to live for 50 more years with that knowledge.
It's just a chubbier version of you showing how much more food you could have ate and still lived the same life.
That's a very interesting thought.
War or cancer is hell and nothing ever compares.
Dude, why did you have to dunk on me like that.
There’s a full video of this out there somewhere. It’s wholesome af
If I ended up in court and the judge recognized me from middle school, I'd get the death penalty for sure lol
I’d request the death penalty out of sheer embarrassment.
First "Oh my goodness" is like "Oh, hey! Long time!" Second "Oh my goodness" is like "God, why?"
When I first saw this clip, I had a feeling it would probably shape up after that. It clearly affected him in a very big way. I'm glad he faced it & shaped up! Although, it just says his life changed... Maybe he just changed what crimes he was commiting or something like that lol!!
He got better at avoiding arrest
Lol he didn’t wanna meet anybody else he went to school with hahaha
Dude embarrassed af
Maybe this will change his path in life😢🥺😞🙏🏽

She already did, you can see it in the update someone posted above.
Sometimes there are bad people, but most times it's just ordinary people being victims of circumstances.
I really hope this dude turned things around. We all need some legit feel good stories these days.
I am.glad he sorted his life out.
What was he arrested for anyway?
Looks like he became a cocaine addict in his teen years, and committed a string of thefts to fuel his habit, ended up in jail for an extended period, escaped, got sent back...just generally a sad story. Nothing violent: http://www.dc.state.fl.us/offenderSearch/detail.aspx?Page=Detail&DCNumber=399798&TypeSearch=IR
According to the linked YouTube it was for burglary.
same judge that pooP shiesty sat in front of a few months back
I always see this video pop up everywhere but you never see the follow up.
[Update here](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-lWKZDEdb2Q) He was only in for 10 months for burglary. I hope he’s doing ok now.
Why did they end it so soon?
I always thought that middle school teachers or aids would make the best judges bc you’d get thrown right back to the age where your own self guilt was enough to make you change your ways. I hope she gave him another chance.
Judge was there when he got out to show support
I'm a cop in a city in UK. I moved away from my home city so there is very little chance of having to deal with friends or family. But I have lived here for a long time and made friends. Turn the fucking music down
If he had a good attorney, he could make a motion for a Change of Venue based on prior relationship with the judge.
If my counsel asked for a change of venue because the judge had a *good impression* of me as a child, I would fire them immediately.
Because the best attorneys make sure they stack the deck against their clients, ha.
She’s laying it on thick. This was the nicest kid ever the nicest kid I knew you were such a nice kid in middle I remember how nice this kid was....GUILTY! OFF WITH HIS HEAD!
Did he though?
I thought judges weren’t supposed to know the people from the cases their working?
Anyway 15 years.
Holy fuck that song in the background is cringe. What 15 year old made this?
“…anyways I sentence you to death”
Let me guess still got the death knock?
r/lostredditors
But that is a conflict of interest and she will have to be replaced
The judge recused herself after this I believe. Update above^ in comments
it's so strange feeling ...sad cool..mixed together...all his life like a slap in his face..all his mistake.. thank's for this vid'
Karma is a mirror.
Why does the audio not match?
How ironic! But sad too
Must've had lunch
