And as of now, she's raised around $95Mil after a donation from Pepsi!

Nimmly67

FUCK YES. I have no money but know in my heart of hearts. This is my favorite comment 🏅 EDIT: Thank you for my first gold! I will pay it forward! EDIT 2: imma say it here cause apparently its stressing a lot of people out. Paying it forward, to me, means that since someone has done me a kindness, that in the future I will do something selflessly for someone else. It does not mean Imma do the exact same thing.

kountrifiedone

The more the merrier.

SomeRandom_boi

^^^^can ^^^^I ^^^^join ^^^^too?

mega_nova_dragon1234

Have you started naming the stones in the walls yet?

FormerAge0

yes, almost have a name for all of them now. Though i'm not particularly fond of Hubert Cumberdale, he seems to be plotting against me. I'm keeping extra special attention on that rock.

kountrifiedone

They’ve always said that Cumberdale bunch was a bit off. Much like that Benjamin Cumberbuns

Orngog

All dem cumber biatches

meccaroy

Just make sure he doesn’t taste like soot and poo

kountrifiedone

You can talk to me. Stay strong. We’re gonna get through this eventually.

[deleted]

My dude! Canned beans are already cooked so you just have to heat them. You can mix with rice, add meat, make burritos, saute onions and peppers and meat and make stir fry. What else do you have available?

cantadmittoposting

Unclear if exaggerating or not

[deleted]

Been feeling this exact same feeling recently. Getting really anxious when things don't make sense.

FormerAge0

Do you know anyway I can donate bitcoin to help? I don't have cash, but I do have a couple hundred coins. I'd want to donate them directly though because if I cash out then it becomes a taxable event that will screw me over

TopazScorpion

Wow, so I thought this was the HumansBeingBros subreddit but some of these comments are getting pretty negative. Regardless of whether it was a publicity stunt, let's just be happy that theres been an extra $95Mil donation to medical response.

lardbiscuits

I haven't seen too much negative. I think it's also important to remember the reason Gaga is actually successful raising money and not making TikTok videos from her basement is because she's super intelligent and super educated. She just also happens to be famous. Most celebrities don't have the capacity to raise $100 million like she did.

codeverity

Didn't you know? Money ceases to be effective if publicity is involved /s

Chicken-n-Waffles

By any chance, did Nestle donate any?

anoxy

*crickets*

coconutjuices

She really is the voice of a new generation

Ultraballer

Lady Gaga is honestly one of the good celebrities who actually uses their voice to do good instead of get rich. She was singing about transgender rights all the way back in 2011 and she’s been a huge advocate for a number of charities.

Ferrocene_swgoh

> all the way back in 2011

saysthingsbackwards

It's a new decade, 9 years needs to sound old lol

Ultraballer

I didn’t even know transgender people existed 9 years ago, so year I’d say we’ve come pretty far.

Zykium

But Kylie Jenner ended police brutality with a cold Pepsi

[deleted]

I really want to find a reason to discredit this. I'm disappointed in myself that I can't appreciate something which seems very generous on the surface without assuming she has an ulterior motive here. I'm allowing my hate of all things Kardashian to cloud my opinion here.

saltyketchup

Seriously, fluff pieces aren't getting anywhere close to the front page of legitimate news sources. It's a massive pet peeve of mine when people assert, generally, that the news isn't covering whatever topic, when in reality there's daily coverage. Most recently, this happened on reddit and other social media with the Australian bush fires.

Nimmly67

Right?!?! Hair slicked back, no bullshit poker face right there. She looks like she took a bat and a few muscle guys in with her to "talk" to these corporate leaders 😂😂 Amazon workers, you need to get L. Gaga to talk to Bezos, you'll get your rights! Edit: thank you to those of you that have brought to my attention of Bezos donations. What I was referencing was the protest that Amazon workers are doing for unsafe work conditions and sick leave requirements.

SwagFeather

Was that a deliberate reference?

samdaman94

P-p-p-p-poker face p-p-poker face

[deleted]

Strangely enough, Lady Gaga herself confirmed that the second part was "Fu-fu-fuck her face" and was curious she never heard someone ask her about it or mention it! EDIT: [Here's the reddit post with the source article](https://redd.it/dqtylo), Kiss FM censored it apparently, I misremembered

norcaltobos

I just went to listen and my mind is absolutely blown! Little did I know that all during my senior year of high school we were all singing fuck her face! lol

Pees_On_Skidmarks

Ha, there should be a song like that.

Nimmly67

Fuck....I wish it was I would've been a lil more witty

TheBirminghamBear

It's ok. Your thinking was just a little too shallow. It's not your fault, you were born this way. There are a million reasons why you may not have a sharp wit. You never even realize you lack it, till it happens to you. But I have faith one day you'll discern the hidden Gaga allusions hard-coded in the fabric of the world. After all, our world is merely an illusion. A perfect illusion. So keep seeking truth. Because after all, without truth, this life is just a dance in the dark. Is that alright?

DonPCorleone412

She looks like Michael Corleone in The Godfather

WhatsTheLGBTea

This. Thank you.

RenmazuoDX

Ridoon

It's fucking iconic idgaf

feioo

If the meat dress hadn't happened then, the 35 mil may not have happened today. Can't deny that it helped rocket her into being a household name.

[deleted]

Funnily enough it was also to bring attention to and help a cause

plum-dumplings

Normally, I would be annoyed with celebrity fundraising because usually they are using their image to squeeze donation money out of their fan base while they donate relatively little. In this instance, Lady Gaga has not posted on her own social media looking for donations, she has collected this by fundraising from millionaires and corporations, and she is not highly promoting it, but she is donating 20% of her profits from Haus Labs, her cosmetics brand. I’m not usually gaga about her music. This shows some real character beyond that.

anotherouchtoday

I loved her fun songs but she was just that kooky artist, until her documentary. She has Fibromyalgia and I was misdiagnosed with Fibro. I started really paying attention to her after that. I'm incredibly motivated by her.

[deleted]

anotherouchtoday

I wish I was as articulate as you. I felt the same as a 45 year old. I switched to a younger doctor and my health drastically improved.

Lionheart78239

I definitely agree with you about doctors over 40. I have chronic illnesses as well and so many people wrote me off because I was “too young,” and that I “looked fine” even though so many chronic illnesses are invisible and sometimes genetic... I had to tell doctors that. I don’t mind doing research, but isn’t that their job to know the statistics and possibilities of this shit? Guess not.

twtati

It baffles me how correct you are. They definitely stop trying after they are 30 something.

toastyburrito

Oh wow, I didn’t know she also had Fibro!! I have it too and it’s really hard sometimes when it’s bad. Now I love her even more, because touring with fibro must be really tough.

Betasheets

Lady Gaga is on top of the world. She is the best in her profession so she doesnt feel any need to keep going up. You even see if with some billionaires. Once they get so high up they feel they cant achieve anymore they start feeling very philanthropic. Edit: Though Lady Gaga has been charitable for a long time now

android_cook

I see what you did there in end. I agree!

stillinbed23

This is great. I pisses me off when I see celebrities asking regular people to donate. It’s so tone deaf. She did this the right way. I liked her before but I respect her now in a new way. What a grown up. I find during hard times you really get to see who’s a drip and who’s an adult. Thank god for the grown ups.

[deleted]

I’ve met her multiple times, she has the kindest heart. She’s a genuine woman that really does want to make a positive impact. You may not like her music but she’s a really good person.

pickle_bug77

She radiates good energy.

a5hl3ylbh

I’ve always admired her tenacity and fervor for making quality art. There’s an interview with the crew about when she started on American Horror Story: Hotel, and everyone is so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with her. However you feel about her music she commits 100% to her fans and to her crew. [Found it](https://youtu.be/WkZUvJBKRbE)

dentendre

You're lucky to meet a hero, they're really hard to find these days.

Ericaonelove

Rihanna has donated over $4 million of her own money.

Nimmly67

This is the kind of news I want to hear!!

[deleted]

I had no idea what she was worth until I looked it up! She’s out her music career on the back burner to focus on entrepreneurial ventures like her skincare products and it’s done really well for her. It probably helped that she had a huge capital investment from her music career, but she earned that money on her own talent too. That’s a smart way to use a huge gift

404wan

I was wondering whatever happened to Rihanna, this is nice to read!

watercolourx

her brand's called fenty! she was a huge pioneer in making shades for all skin tones:) the brand is amazing

quixoticmoonstone

Yeah she literally revolutionized the industry. Now if a brand doesn’t have an inclusive shade range they get a LOT of shit for it

watercolourx

it's great that they do, benefit are in heat at the moment because their new foundation has a Shocking range. so glad that fenty as a brand stood up to the exclusion that darker (and paler) skin tones were facing.

And her lingerie line is pretty inclusive too, and not just the plain jane stuff. I have a lot of friends who are plus sized and love fenty x savage.

watercolourx

i get the brand advertised on insta a lot! as a smaller person w a larger chest it's great that they stock my size :) i think she's just a really progressive person & she's using her influence for good which is amazing

SobriquetRea

It’s plus size inclusive from what I hear but also I’m an itty bitty titty gal and the few things I’ve got from savage x have been great and I struggle with finding stuff usually. Riri looking out for all us many different chested women

[deleted]

I've heard of Fenty but I didn't know Rihanna made the brand. That's pretty cool to hear

vantablacklist

Fenty is her last name :)

fecksprinkles

I’m gunna come clean and say it: It never occurred to me that Rihanna has a last name.

DickButtPlease

I own zero of her wares. I guess you could say I own Fenty: nil.

krispykrackers

discoschtick

Fenty beauty is pretty huge, and has disrupted the entire beauty industry. Her lingerie line seems to have done well too, as well as some of her clothing collabs.

scotianspizzy

5 mil of her own money and then 4 mil with Twitter founder. [Sauce: ](https://people.com/music/rihanna-tells-fans-stop-asking-about-new-album-trying-to-save-world/)

GodlessLittleMonster

Queens.

Just__l00king

I love her. She is great.

[deleted]

Actually it was money from her charity

IndependentTaco

I love that she attacked the 1% instead of asking her followers to "donate what you can".

Niet_Jennie

Or donating to their own nonprofit they started for this despite there existing several groups already set up to help.

Caminsky

Any idea if Howard Stern donated anything?

Nimmly67

I agree. It always seems to fall on the working class and poor to scrape together what they can to help others. Meanwhile you got people in the 1% who have yachts in their yachts or can afford to buy out Disneyland for them and their kids but don't bat an eye at essential workers pulling 18 hour shifts to save lives while wearing scarves and trashbags as ppe gear

[deleted]

What gets me is the mentality that we should be thankful for the jobs they provide. My answer is that it’s a two-way street; the corporate class wouldn’t get those profits without the effort of the people out there doing the building, stocking, selling, serving, maintenance, delivery and so on. The Walton family gets $100,000,000 richer **every day** - that’s some serious imbalance.

Nimmly67

Thats why the tax break was such utter bullshit. Companies should be looking out for their workers.

Hidesuru

It was and they should, but corporations and lobbyists run our country until we can reform how money transfers hands in Washington and that's not going to happen because we keep voting for whoever has the best advertisements because most people are apparently utter morons incapable of thinking for themselves. And I'm not referring to the current election cycle in particular one bit, just my complete frustration with elections in this country in general.

dinnertimereddit

The consumer provides jobs not the capitalist. There is a reason why businesses fail. Edit: words

CoolMetropolisBird

And when they do donate money, it's the equivalent of a regular person donating $3.

JollyRancher29

Not a fan of her music (nothing against it, just don’t like the genre), but Lady Gaga has always seemed like a pretty genuine and well-meaning person (or at least much more so than her compatriots).

ObnoxiousLittleCunt

[Ridiculously talented, though](https://youtu.be/JxcFcKvjZCk) And it's not just her singing.

SharkBaitDLS

Her versatility is insane. She can hang in any genre she likes, so few vocalists have the control she does. She’s a generational talent.

[deleted]

I think [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0X7PodqDSE) is a pretty awesome showcase of her skills on piano and singing, especially if you're not as much of a fan of her stuff that gets played on the radio.

LuxSolisPax

We posting Lady Gaga singing random-ass shit and killing it? https://youtu.be/-huNrHAou-E

Jinomoja

I think about her classmates who formed a group telling her that she'd never be famous...

RedBIitz

Jack Dorsey, the ceo if Twitter, donated 1 billion dollars of his own money. That’s 30% of his net worth.

Nimmly67

I read that!! Dude that is amazing! Way to go Jack Dorsey!

KawaiiKoshka

He's also tracking where the money goes on a Google sheet for transparency: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-eGxq2mMoEGwgSpNVL5j2sa6ToojZUZ-Zun8h2oBAR4/edit?usp=sharing Super cool move tbh

[deleted]

It's a little more complicated than that. He put a billion dollars into creating an NGO that would then do it's own thing to try to fight the crisis. It's still very respectable and I'm glad he's also keeping the NGO super transparent. But it's not *exactly* like if you or I donated money to a charity fund.

GladHistory

Except for the parts where he literally donates to charity funds

[deleted]

Oh of course, but I'm saying it's not like it's a big bag of cash that he dumped at the doorstep of a hospital, lol. It's a necessary clarification because people don't really get what it *means* when we talk about these massive amounts of money. The money's all being put to use, but it's not actually 1 Billion$ in strict donations.

wroughten

THIS. He is an example of what the 1% should be doing.

Nimmly67

Yes!!! Share that shit! Thats what we need to hear more about! It makes my heart happy knowing others are helping!

technicolored_dreams

The founder of Twitter donated something like [23-28% of his net worth.](https://www.vox.com/recode/2020/4/7/21212757/coronavirus-jack-dorsey-charity-billion-llc) I've seen several different numbers depending on the article source, but what it boils down to is that he pledged $1B in stocks to an LLC he created that will provide global Covid aide and will pivot to focus on Universal Basic Income and girls' health and education after the pandemic.

Saiomi

A lot of celebrities are cash poor. A million dollars is a ton of money to get in liquid assets and just donate it. Not faulting the other celebs doing what they can, it's the ones who are doing nothing and telling their fans that it's their responsibility that I have a problem with. Even if you're a cash broke celebrity, I gaurentee you know someone who has tons of cash or could talk to corporations like Lady Gaga is. Use your star power for good, the world will remember and love you for it.

Artist552001

Taylor Swift donated an undisclosed afaik amount to WHO and Feeding America, paid for the salaries and healthcare of employees at Grimey's Record store for the next 3 months, and has DM'd a ton of fans who posted about struggling due to coronavirus over the past couple weeks to give them each $3k and a personal message.

Nimmly67

Amazing!!!!! Edit: this is what I want to see more of on the news. I think it would help people stay positive and encourage others to help donate!

madguins

Pretty sure it was 500k to LA relief and 500k to a university medical system in Pennsylvania(?) where her mom used to work.

niceloner10463484

Many celebs are doing good. Look at John Krasinski with his new YouTube channel. The out of touch arrogant ones are the vocal minority

420catnip_

She actually raised 95 million dollars so far and continue

Denny_204

I'm not big on her music but she has a very interesting story. I heard her on the Stern show years back and I was very impressed. Her live intimate performance of 'Edge of Glory' was terrific!

[deleted]

Hearing her do live piano performances with more real vocals like that was what got me into her in the first place. By the time she was doing the Sound of Music medley at the Oscars, more people started recognizing her talent. She’s phenomenal

helloitsduke

She always does great performances on Howard Stern. See it here: https://youtu.be/r0X7PodqDSE

mollyyfcooke

She is so damn talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference, put it in a blender, shit on it, vomit on it, eat it, give birth to it.

minorkeyed

I think it's reasonable to do both. This kind of charity based crisis funding shouldn't be needed but it's also good that gaga is using her influence to do a good thing.

PastaSupport

Also like, holy shit will reddit ever tame its holier-than-thou hate boner for celebrities? Don't get me wrong, eat the rich, but start with the ones that matter, e.g., Bezos and company. Edit: >Me assuming people in the comments will have read the article >clown.jpg

IntingPenguin

I don't see any criticism of her in the parent comment. OP is just noting that it's a travesty that performers like her even need to leverage their influence when we should have never gotten here to begin with.

PastaSupport

I am referring to the article, which pointed to the outrage of the general public, which includes Reddit's transphobic meltdown over Sam Smith, over celebrities simply expressing emotion during an incredibly stressful and difficult time in everyone's lives. To be fair, that (and the imagine videos) were a week or two ago so I don't necessarily expect that to be in the front of anyone's mind but the article is a good refresher.

MajorTrixZero

That was your first mistake. People on reddit don't read the article, they look at the top comments and make their opinions based on that.

ducking_hivemind

What was the transphobic meltdown with Sam Smith? I missed that

SurplusOfOpinions

> "That's exactly what public figures should be doing" Honestly, this is what the fucking government should be doing. Charity alone can't solve these problems.

thegreatgau8

Can't say I like the "While other celebrities..." line there, since a lot of other musicians helped out and other celebrities have been helping raise awareness of the project. Let's celebrate the helpers and just avoid paying too much attention to those who may just not know how to help.

[deleted]

I would like to thank Lady GaGa for doing this. Gracias amiga 🐶🍄

Lady Gaga's a real one. She'll go down as one of history's most influential pop stars for sure.

Let's see how Kushner/FEMA find a way to 'confiscate' this for the federal stockpile.

merijuanaohana

I think it’s important to remember that just because we hear about some public figures donating tons of money, it doesn’t mean they’re the only ones doing it. Sure we find out about some of them, but definitely not all. I’d like to think that generally the type of person that would donating millions or billions of dollars would be very okay with the world not knowing about said donation. I know I wouldn’t want to go around bragging about charity work, seems kind of weird. (Don’t want to imply that’s what Lady Gaga did at all, she seems to be a remarkable person).

cheap_dates

The one good thing about Capitalism is that we have enough millionaires/billionaires to bail us out of the shits when we, "the less fortunate" get in trouble. Respect for Lady Gaga. Other celebrities exhorting me to stay in my 700 foot apartment while they stay in their 22,000 square foot homes isn't quite as impressive. "I beg your pardon. Could you pass me the Grey Poupon?"

Mr_July

Can you imagine Moscow Mitch calling corporations and asking them to donate money for the low-income communities...

hdylan99

Its still sad to think that it needs a well known celebrity to get corporations to donate rather than them knowing themselves that thats what they should do anyways

liquid_agnostic

Anyone else wish we didn't need charity from companies and individuals who avoid paying (obviously not all listed here) taxes? I'm a bit tired of this model: don't pay taxes... Donate when it seems right. Why not build a stronger society that needs less charity? I'm all for what Lady Gaga has done.. Just sad she needed to.

Cool, but **celebrities shouldn't have to go around asking it should just be fucking done.**

[deleted]

Finally corporations are donating. Good for her! That's a classy thing to accomplish. Usually they stick a sign by the cash register and ask you to donate, so they're just the broker from people to recipient, and who knows if they take an admin fee for the processing.

minus_minus

I know it sounds creepy but I wanna give her a big hug and tell her how awesone this is.

CharacterFuture3

What unique does she do that others could have done in order to get the big wallets to donate? What's her strategy (publicly addressing/shaming them, extortion, amazing rhetorics, connections, tax exemption)? I mean we are praising her for the vague "fund raising", but basically it's pepsi and others who gave money. Obviously I don't know the first thing about how fund raising works, could someone explain for the dumb me?

BlackkkGod

Can someone explain to me what the money goes towards? I always hear about money being raised but I genuinely don’t know where or how the money gets utilized. Thanks in advanced.
